I had dinner at The Timber's last night and I must say that it was amazing! (I rarely use that term) Gino prepared a fabulous Tanqueray TEN martini The Giant BBQ smoked beef rib was perfection! Just enough smoke, fat was beautifully rendered yielding a juicy, tender result, BBQ sauce delicious... I polished off the entire rib! Mashed potatoes were fluffy, buttery, perfectly seasoned, Caesar salad was fresh, crispy Romaine, dressing homemade and perfectly balanced, creamy with punches of garlic and lemon. Sky was my marvelous server, she is so friendly, expedient, professional and knowledgeable of the menu Kim and Gino are very hospitable, good people that work tirelessly to provide excellent fare and friendly service ...I can't stop thinking about that BBQ beef rib! Disappointing experience at a place we've loved for years. My partner and I have been regulars at Timbers Roadhouse for years, stopping by 4-5 times annually whenever we pass through Goleta. This visit was unfortunately our worst experience there by far. It was the first time we'd sat in the dining room instead of the bar. It was early - around 5:00. The happy hour buffalo chicken sliders and Brussels sprouts were good. However, things went downhill with our entrees. My tri-tip dinner (ordered medium rare) arrived as two thin slices of medium rare covering three slices of gray, well-done meat underneath. It was tough and tasted old - it seemed like the kitchen was trying to hide poor quality, overcooked meat. My partner's ribeye was cooked to the right temperature but extremely gristly - only about half of the twelve ounces was actually edible. When I sent my tri-tip back, our server (who was genuinely trying to help) returned to say they were out of tri-tip and a new one would take 45 minutes. By then my partner was halfway through his steak. I asked to just have the meat removed and I'd just eat my sides. Here's where it went from bad to worse: the manager (owner's daughter) charged us $7 each for the sides as "à la carte" items and argued when I explained I only ate them because that's all I had. She eventually offered 50% off the entrée but her confrontational attitude made things worse. The owner was more understanding when we escalated it to her, but the damage was done. Our server did her best in a tough situation - the issues were with the kitchen and management's handling of the problem. Really heartbroken about this experience at a place we've loved. We'll probably try again someday but will stick to burgers and salads at the bar. read more

We were taking a slow road trip from LA to SF and making stops to see historical points of interest. We realized we were hungry, and this was the closest restaurant to us. I am so glad we stopped by! I love historic eateries, and this one seems extra special. The restaurant itself is huge, with multiple dining rooms and event spaces. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts, and decided to sit at the bar. Our bartender was very friendly and helpful, and pointed out that we still had time for happy hour! We ordered the Brussels sprouts, with a bright citrus kick and not overly-charred like a lot of other restaurants. I ordered the grilled artichoke, the shrimp, corn and jalapeno fritters, and a Winchester cocktail. Husband ordered the Stack sandwich (prime rib, bacon, crispy onions, jack cheese, lettuce and tomato, side of fries). We both really enjoyed the food and ordered another round of drinks. The fritters had a delicious, complex flavor and a good kick! I wish the artichoke had been seasoned more between the leaves so that the "petals" would be softer and more flavorful, but I still really enjoyed it with the aioli. We also split the butter cake, which came with a scoop of ice cream. Our bartender told us that the owner's wife makes the carrot cake from scratch every day (I love restaurant with stories like that!) and we would have ordered that too if we weren't so full! Well seasoned meat with great flavor. Those green beans were amazing full of flavor and garlic. I asked for prime rib medium well and was a bit over cooked for my liking. But it was still good and tender. They have fabulous ranch dressing taste like the classic, if you know you know. Dessert was yummy had chocolate lava cake, forgot to take pic. Was really moist and chocolaty perfect with the vanilla ice cream. The place just gives off an old classic style with the timber wood, very rustic feel. Service was a bit on the slow side, but we were not in a hurry. I prefer that vs being rushed. I had to flag down our waiter to get more water and raw horseradish, the cream one had no kick. The staff was friendly and greeted us right away. Our server shared both personal and staff favorites, along with add-on options that would complement our order. The iced tea was so flavorful, and the artichoke--served with Spicy Mayo and Clarified Butter--was absolutely delicious. Then came our Caesar salads, tossed with just the right amount of dressing and presented picture-perfect in the bowl. Next were the stars of the meal: our perfectly cooked Ribeye and Prime Rib! OMG--both cut like butter, cooked to the perfect temperature, and tasted amazing. The sides were just as impressive: garlic green beans, mashed potatoes, everything was spot-on. Our server checked on us every time she passed by, which made the experience even better. When we were leaving, we accidentally took our check to the front, but the bartender took the initiative--despite being busy--to help us out and close us out quickly. I even stopped the manager, who had been walking the floor throughout our visit, to give her praise for such an outstanding experience--one we haven't had since before Covid! Lunch for four today, Oct 2. A lot of menu choices, including Bar=B-Q specials. Our party had The Stack sandwich, Fish & Chips, Chx Parm and a rib-eye steak. They do great on sandwiches, including French Dip, Ti-tip, and 'The Stack,' a mixture of cuts including bacon and beef. The Chicken Parm was huge, and tasty as usual. The Stack was big and delicious as usual. The steak, alas, was not so good. Had a nice char, but was a bit overdone, more than medium-rare requested. The problem was simply the beef quality; too fatty, gristely, tough. Not helped by a pathetically dull steak knife. My suggestion? Just buy the beef at Costco, it is way better even in Choice. Aside from the steak issue, things were great. I should add, I had a good Bloody Mary, and the staff was great; welcoming and attentive. I just should have chosen something other than the ribeye. My husband and I brought our littles to enjoy a sit down dinner for our last night of camping at El Capitan State Beach. I ordered the small bowl of the prime rib soup with a side ceaser salad and they were good. Only thing negative i have to say was that i didn't care that the veggies and meat in the soup were tiny pieces. it was more juice/broth than chunks of actual food. BUT! there was flavor! My husband and one of my sons ordered the special for that evening, flat iron steak with potatoes, their seasonal veggies (green beans) and a salad. they enjoyed their steaks. our other 4 kiddos ordered chicken strips with fries and those are always a win! We decided to go to a beautiful restaurant for our special family dinner about a week before Christmas. This year we decided on Timber's Roadhouse and it did NOT disappoint. Such lovely ambience with a large roaring fireplace. We also enjoyed learning more about the history behind the "timbers" which make up the building structure, from our servers. Great service too; very prompt! There were five of us and each member of our group received a large, beautiful dinner. I personally tried the sirloin steak soup, which was outstanding. There is also another dining area off to the side with a bar, which seems to be more casual. The menu has plenty of options from seafood, steaks, pastas, and sandwiches. The waiter was friendly and brought out house bread and took our order. We ordered prime rib and chicken parmigiana. The prime rib was overcooked and dry. The pasta sauce on the chicken parmigiana was no better than Ragu can pasta sauce. The salad and prime rib soup were also terrible , both lacking any flavor. Such a history with this restaurant. So many special occasions celebrated here in the 70's. First dates, Junior Proms, post Chargers football games, I think I even had my first real cocktail here when I officially turned 21. Wow, if those walls could talk . . . After being away from Goleta for way too long and finally returning, I was excited to hear that the Timber's Roadhouse was reopening. I thought to give it three good visits before finally reviewing. Well, it's become our go-to spot for Sunday lunch, and either outside or inside is ideal. They also have a fun bar area which seems to be a very popular spot for celebrating life. And you sports fans will love the large screen televisions that surround the room, a perfect place for quality viewing. Menu includes some delicious and hearty dishes. We usually start with the Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Crispy Wings, and then thoroughly enjoy either the Tri Tip Sandwich, French Dip au Jus, and the Fried Chicken Sandwich. And the servers have been exceptional. Both Robin and Filip are very gracious, attentive, and spot-on with any food recommendations. The highlight of our first visit here is the service. The kind waiter was so attentive and he made us feel super welcome. Their food is pretty good and matches the vibe of the restaurant. We ordered the potato skins, brussel sprouts, french dip, and fried chicken sandwich. Their sandwiches were pretty good, but they were just missing some salt. Brussel sprouts were nice and crispy. My favorite were the onion rings that I got on the side for the chicken sandwich. Super crispy and loved the beer batter. I was told the potato skins were good, and they are really tasty with the ranch and sour cream. Side note: THEIR RANCH IS SO GOOD. I love a good ranch. For dessert we got the cheesecake and mud pie. I took a party of 8 to Timber's to celebrate my 22 year old twins birthdays. A special treat for college kids whom are used to eating campus food. Our waiter was funny and attentive. The boys had great tasting local beers on tap and a cool mixed drink. The prime rib was great and several of us shared in on that! I enjoyed the special pork chop which was savory and tender. Three of the boys had the Timber burger which they loved and were impressed on its unique & delicious nature. We shared crème brûlée, molten chocolate cake and the mud pie. They also brought out birthday ice cream sundaes for the twins. The deserts were incredible. All were great! The ambiance was classic of a big roadhouse with rustic interior and a grand fireplace. A very comfortable feeling of going to Grandmas Cabin for a nice warm delicious supper. We were seated in a booth and our server, Fillip came to assist us. We ordered two iced teas and asked him for recommendations on appetizers. He said the potato skins are delicious. I asked about the onion rings and he said the same thing. So we ordered both. Boy are we glad we did! The skins were delicious! Nice tender crunchy potato halves fully loaded with cheese and bacon and green onions. These were super delicious! The onion rings were awesome too! Sweet onion rings covered in a crispy tempura like batter. Super yummy!! We then asked Fillip for a recommendation on what yo have for a main course. He said to try the "Short Rib". So we did. We are super glad we did!! The "Short Rib" is anything but a short rib! It's a big beef rib with a huge tender piece of delicious moist beef attached to it! We shared this dish since it was so huge! It was delicious! Super tender and flavorful! And really huge. Please see the picture! Order this dish since it is so yummy! The service provided by Fillip was wonderful! Super helpful and always attentive!! The only thing is my daughter was saying is that he needs to have a bell on him so you can hear him coming. Several times we would be enjoying our meal when all of a sudden we would be getting asked if we needed anything or how the meal was. The server (Fillip) was awesome!!! We had a very good, relaxing lunch here in the patio which is dog friendly and has games like ping pong and pool.

First impression: We sat inside on a hot day. Instead of air conditioning they had the doors and windows open which didn't help much. A few brave souls sat out back in a shaded section of their large outdoor area. I'm not sure how they survived. Second impression: Decent decor. Friendly staff. First impression of the menu: Ridiculously expensive. Second impression of the menu: Happy hour prices are reasonable. Food impressions: The happy hour nachos were messy but tasty, smothered in tasty chili and cheese. The chips didn't hold up though, and everything ended up pretty soggy. My sliders were pretty good, no complaints at all. Friends were satisfied with their chicken tacos, but the tomato bisque was received a "Meh" for being bland. Onion rings were well seasoned and tasty, and the giant pretzel was well received. Overall, it was okay. We mostly stuck to the happy hour menu and it wasn't bad. Nothing convinced us that their food was so incredible that we should come back and pay their regular prices. My companions thought I was being too generous with my three stars, but since I'm doing the reviewing I get to choose the stars. read more

Not sure if this was a restaurant or the dining room of an assisted living facility. We had a very disappointing meal here last night. They get 1 extra star because the waiter was great. Tall, mild accent (German?). Great guy. But none of the 4 of us enjoyed our food. We ordered the oxtail mac & cheese and the brussel sprouts. We picked at the m & c but no one was impressed and out of 4 people, we didn't finish it. Remember when brussels sprouts were always horrible and the food you hated the most? That all changed when people discovered roasting them with things like bacon, a scattering of bleu cheese, maybe a drizzle of balsamic. Boom - from zero to hero. Not these ones! They were old school yuck. The only difference between these and the ones your great-aunt (who you hated) used to make is that these were roasted instead of steamed. Blech. Me first: When I saw Duck Leg Confit w/ RED WINE MUSHROOM REDUCTION sauce, I was all in. But apparently their idea of "red wine reduction" is to reduce the amount of wine to nothing. The duck sat in a small drizzle of unseasoned sauteed mushrooms. The duck was also entirely unseasoned. It was like if you cooked a duck, but added zero salt, herbs or other flavorings. I asked for the shrimp skewer upgrade and the shrimp were also unseasoned except for a brief dusting of maybe paprika. They were also that weird translucence of poor quality frozen grocery story shrimp. Absolutely no flavor. My man: He got the prime rib entree. Absolutely no salt or other seasoning on the meat. Absolutely tasteless except for the side of horseradish and au jus. It came with a Yorkshire pudding but since everything on the plate had gone cold before it was served, it had lost it's charm. Yorkshire puds need to be served IMMEDIATELY or they get soggy and undesireable. It was like if you cooked a roast, but added zero salt, herbs or other flavorings. Adult kid 1: French dip. We love these but this one was bland and unseasoned w/ a weak au jus. The steak fries were good, tho. Again, no salt added. Adult kid 2: Open-face steak sandwich. She enjoyed the steak but said there was no cheese involved in the "cheese toast." For cocktails, I ordered the Cpt Blankenship, which I thought was very tasty. My guy got something that looked like my drink but in a flat voice he said, "it's not." He didn't like it. Kid #1 got the Ellwood martini, thinking that it was going to be like the wonderful cocktail she had recently in Solvang with the same Empress 1908 gin, but also elderberry tonic, & garnished w/ grapefruit and rosemary. Nope, this was pretty much just the gin. Maybe there was a splash of vermouth? I switched drinks with her out of pity but I wished that there was at least an olive or something to make it more interesting. I will say that the drinks were all pretty strong. Everyone's food was tepid except for my duck, so we assumed that their plates just sat for a while as they finished plating mine. I guess I should give a nod to the fact that they used fresh veggies instead of Bird's Eye. If your grandparents are in town and don't like being challenged by "ethnic" food like, say, "garlic," and are on a zero-sodium diet then this place is for you. I usually trust Yelp but I frankly don't believe all of these 5 star reviews. read more
