Everything was very tasty. We got the pork ribs plate, the pork belly tips, and the brisket and Santa Maria tri tip. The potato salad and cole slaw were delicious as well and tasted homemade, like grandma's potato salad. My kids enjoyed the ribs and pork belly especially, and the arcade games in the back. I'm giving Goodland BBQ 5 stars simple for how good the food is. In the Santa Barbara area good Tri tip is pretty much the only consistent kind of "bbq" you can get. Here the beef ribs and hot links were amazing, the Mac and cheese and seasoned fries hit the spot as well. I'm not really a fan of beans but I have to admit their chili beans side that comes with the combo plates are really good too. A few cons are the small options of sides compared to the "extras". There's only four side options you can choose for a combo plate, there's an extra charge of $2.50 to switch a "side" for and "extra" but some of the extra cost the same as a side. Given the similar price it would be nice if those could also be a side choice. Plus the credit card processing fee of $1.79 is passed on to you so I'd recommend paying with cash, side note to that they don't accept bills over 50. Besides those two issues, I really enjoyed the food and look forward to trying it again. read more

We waited until they had been open for a while to work out the kinks and to avoid the long lines waiting to try the new place. Maybe we should have waited longer. I had the chicken plate. The chicken was well smoked but somehow bland at the same time. The beans were full of everything (meat, onions, etc.) except flavor. Her brisket was bland, too. Potato salad? Bland. Coleslaw? Bland. Cornbread? Bland and a bit stale. The garlic bread was greasy but did have a little flavor. It was on the pricey side, even for the area. Staff was friendly enough, especially considering how busy they were. The most positive thing was the variety of choices on the menu. Overall though, it was a disappointment. read more

I really debated on the stars. I would've done three stars but I think that there is potential so feel comfortable with four. The prices were very reasonable and in line. That is refreshing these days! The brisket was good, very flavorful and the chili beans were awesome! I am a huge coleslaw fan and this was flat; just some salt or something to give it any kind of spark or flavor is needed. The potato salad was equally boring. Everybody working there seemed really nice. I don't mind plain furnishings. The news playing in the main dining room was a bit of a bummer on a Saturday at lunchtime. As I said at the top of the review, I think it has potential with just a few tweaks. Ramp up the flavors a little bit and make it a bit more welcoming. read more

Stopped by Goodland for some lunch and was not disappointed. The woman at the counter was extremely helpful with the menu since it was my first time. I got pork belly tacos and a side of their smoked mac and cheese... the pork was exceptional. Also my friend got some tri tip and I think it's been the best, most tender cut I've had since moving to the Santa Barbara area last winter. So damn good! I noticed DoorDash and GrubHub drivers coming and going and a constant flow of people in and out which tells me a) other people enjoy it and b) I can get it delivered to my house! which definitely will do. read more

Got a tritip salad. It was ok but should have been better for the price. Bagged romaine with some decent smoked tritip on it. The description is piled high mixed greens. Far from it. Stopped in on impulse after driving around and being indecisive for a bit (thank goodness because I was getting hangry). A guy sitting on the patio had just finished and licked his plate clean so I figured that was a good sign... in addition to lots of people coming/going getting take out. Woman at the counter was very nice/upbeat and gave good suggestions; assisted in navigating the menu. I went with her suggestion of the tri tip meal (with 2 sides). The patio had 2-3 tables but I really enjoyed sitting out there (people watching is my jam). About 10 mins into the wait for our food, the counter person comes out to apologize for the wait but that they had a large order they had just finished. We were in good convo so we didn't notice but it was a nice gesture nonetheless. The tri tip was flavorful, seasoned and tender, not too thickly sliced (which I like). I forgot to request a meat temperature but it came out a tad under medium which was fine with me! The coleslaw was decent (needed a hint of sweet) and the macaroni salad was lacking (I need celery! Why the olives?!). Both the regular and spicy bbq sauces were good and complimented the meat perfectly. My friend let me steal a bit of his mac n cheese and it was just okay. I didn't try the pork belly tacos but he said they were fantastic. I do love that they have so many side options, (including a garden salad) which is a nice alternative. I hope this reaches the owners or the manager... I came here on August 24 at 645pm. The restaurant was empty and the girl at the front desk was talking with a gentlemen about something on his phone I stood there which she did not even acknowledge me with my two kids.. she continued talking with the the guy so I went to the bathroom. I went back to the desk and she continued the same scenario this time I stood there a bit longer still no acknowledgment and she continued with her conversation from what I did over hear it was nothing important for her not to acknowledge a customer. At this point I just walked out. I was really hoping to try the bbq I heard good things. These types of employees makes people not want to return. I hope this gets resolved so this employee doesn't chase the customers away. read more

Today's hunger led me in search of barbecue. I looked on Yelp and this place had decent reviews so why not try it? I ordered the brisket sandwich which came with a drink and french fries. The sandwich came on a toasted brioche bun. The bun had some slight charring on the edges and it added a great crunch to this typically softer bread. The brisket was provided in decent proportions and had a good bark to it. Additionally, the sandwich also had barbecue sauce on it as well before it was topped with the bun. The french fries were the crinkle cut style, crispy, and with the perfect amount of salt added to accentuate the flavors of the food. I also ordered a side of corn bread. The cornbread was a good amount for $2 and had some delicious butter on top. Maybe it had some sugar in it or something, but this wasn't regular butter, this was something that tastebuds clamor for. In my personal opinion, the sandwich could have used more barbecue sauce, which the establishment has no issue with providing. This is my personal choice so nothing negative about that. Bottom Line: Not bad but pricey This place opened up awhile back around the corner from where we live and I had not yet made time to head over. I ordered a "1 meat" Tri tip plate with 'Slaw and Potato salad. The tri tip wasnt bad, nice and smoky, thin cut. It wasn't very hot which was a bummer. The Slaw and potato salad were on point, the tri tip wasnt bad but it did feel little 'phoned in', in that all of the parts of the meal were already done, it was just assembled on a tray. I have to give this place the benefit of the doubt as its a new local spot, they were playing GREAT music while I was there, the people were cool and food was all right. For my dinner and drink it was $32...for a few slices of tri tip and two small sides. That's a bit steep IMHO but it seems that's just what dinner costs these days read more

This is my first time here (Wednesday) Monday I tried Shalhoobs hoping it would be good just the ribs though and unfortunately theirs were dry (I feel like I can tell when yesterdays ribs are reheated today... ) probably better fresh! So today I went into it optimistic and goodland didn't disappoint. First of all I pulled up to the curb, handed money, got food and boom I was done. Super quick and efficient which is a huge plus. No waiting for me and it was noon! The ribs were fall off the bone. Really good sauce with an additional hot option (so good) . Brisket was melt-in-your-mouth good!! Meat was a home run cornbread was outstanding. Love the honey on top really added to it. I was so stuffed I didn't even get to the beans. My family ate the fries and they were gone quick!! Such a great surprise to find this hidden gem in the heart of old town Goleta next to what used to be my old elementary school (Goleta Union School) now the community center. We picked up Goodland BBQ to go (ordered online), and it was ready quickly. Staff were super friendly when we came in to pick up our food. The inside was actually cozier than photos had led me to believe, and I'll totally eat there next time. I had the tri-tip and brisket two-meat combo plate with a side of potato salad. All of it was super good! Unfortunately, none of the sides (other than my potato salad) made it into my order. No side of beans with my combo plate, and we ordered several sandwiches with slaw on the side that also didn't make it into our order. I can't be too upset since what we had was great, and if we'd eaten in instead of taking it to go, this would have been easily fixed. Went here shortly after they opened, it was good, but not great, went here last Friday night and it was GREAT!! Had the Chicken, Brisket, Pulled Pork and the Porkbelly Bites. The Porkbelly Bites were nice and meaty, not fat and slimy like most places; I'd return just for those. I overheard the owners discussing catering options with the folks behind me- they were kind, detail oriented and knowledgeable; made me want to hire them! Really disappointed, my third time eating here, I ordered the combo dinner with 2 sides of meat. The chicken was barbecued to where it was black. I asked for the barbecue sauce to be on the chicken. The chicken was so dry and There wasn't enough barbecue sauce on it. I should've got a side to go of the sauce but my error for not opening my go container before I left . 6 ounce containers of coleslaw and a container of potato salad , the portions of the chicken, two chicken legs, two small chicken legs and two small thighs and I left a tip though I was taking it out along with a soda. 36 out the door, What a rip off.! I'm so annoyed with myself because I knew that it was overpriced for what it was, but I was sort of craving barbecue chicken. I decided to give this bbq spot another shot after having an underwhelming meal the first month they opened. I was really disappointed with the bbq I received on this visit as well. I ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket that was severely overcooked. My first thoughts biting into it was that it was yesterday's brisket and could not have been smoked today. Also had the pork belly bites that lacked flavor and hot links that were average at best. The Mac n cheese was mediocre as well. The most enjoyable part of the meal was the cornbread. I must preface this review by stating I am a Kansas City native, and as such, I am a BBQ attaché. A friend from Kansas City came out for a visit, so that's double the BBQ tongs of experience of excellence. I had heard good things about Goodland BBQ, so I suggested it for dinner. The inside looked a bit dated and the white fluorescent lights burned my retinas, detracting from the diner-esque ambiance. Staff were super friendly as we placed our order for 1/2lb each of brisket. My friend chose two sides as well- Smoked Mac 'n Cheese and Chili Beans. We both ordered our beverages, Horchata, which were disappointing and quite watered down. Unfortunately our brisket was not a "cut above the rest", but rather, each of our 1/2 lb of brisket consisted of 1/4lb of only fat. We've never encountered so much fat on any brisket before. So it seemed one was not getting what one payed for. The meat also lacked flavor in and of itself- it relied heavily on the BBQ sauce to give it flavor. I did enjoy their BBQ sauces, both the spicy and sweet. First I just want to say that this is a new place and there are bound to be some things that don't go completely right, as I've read from other reviews, so I would hope people keep that in mind. I got the pork belly sandwich with fries and YESSS IT WAS BOMBB. Could use just a little bit more sauce but other than that, the meat was juicy and full of flavor. The fries were well seasoned too. It's pretty good food but far too pricey. Not great service. I've been here several times. The menu has many options, but the prices seem to go up and up the more you look at it. It doesn't help that there is a 3.5% surcharge for credit cards. Only once was this advertised on a sign. The service is honestly not the best. Every single time, there's always a "conflict." The last time I went, I ordered two pulled pork sandwiches. I was charged for two, but I only got one of them. I had to flag down someone to tell them that my order was incorrect.
