The only reason I'm giving this a two instead of a one if because of how great the fries are and all the memories I had when I was a child, recently I went to Beansie's at Champlain Valley Fair and had said hi instead of saying hello back a worker in the back said "bye" very rudely and rolled her eyes. The older lady that was taking my order was fine but after I left they all seemed to be laughing at me and I did not feel very welcomed especially as a person of color and decided to take my money some place else, that was not rude and unpleasant. read more

Well let's say it didn't start off great, when I ordered my 1/4 lbs cheeseburger and medium frie, unfortunately the female at the counter didn't hear the fries part. They also don't tell ya that all of their burgers are either smashed thin or small. Mine happened to be smashed. The cheese was tasteless and the tomato was soggy. Sadly I actually gave them a tip before I even had to reorder my fries, and those were horrid as well, oil old and fries wilty. I was hoping for such a better experience. And for all that horrible food and service it cost me around 12.00 dollars. I truly hope they do better. read more

We decided to stop here and grab lunch while we were driving around Burlington on vacation. Got a couple of cheeseburgers and some fries and was not disappointed! The fries are hand cut and were so good. The burger was very good and not very messy. Quick and friendly service made it a very worthwhile trip. Makes me want to take another visit to Burlington while we are in Vermont on vacation!! It's a place where the "been there, done that, got the t-shirt" is a serious thought for me (they didn't have any t-shirts for sale unfortunately due to the pandemic ... but I will get one eventually). read more

FRIES & DOGS That's what you want to get here. It's a local institution and definitely a MUST TRY. You'll probably like it, a lot of people do. They are especially known for their Michigans. This bus is open just about every day from Spring to Fall during daylight hours. The idea is to buy lunch and eat it in the park. A fun place. There aren't many food options in this area. The smell of bacon fat just lures you in. I wouldn't call it a healthy meal. It's good for what it is. read more

I previously wrote a review that was not so flattering to Beansie's. It was on their opening day of their 75th season. I had issue with their food not being hot and their drinks not being cold. I have been back three times and each time I left very satisfied with my food. Burgers, Michigans and fries are still my favorite. Hi All! Great stuff here! This was started in 1944 as Queen City Canteen and run that way through 1975 that is when my father decided to sell to the Hersberg brothers and Hence the name was changed to my fathers nickname Beansie (Hubert R Dumas) and was sold numerous times since then. I can remember riding on the bus down North ave to Battery park on work days. I think the first Bus was a converted city bus. Its nice to see somebody taking pride in this. Quality Michigans here but wish the McKenzie hot dog was a little more well done with grill marks and the bun toasted. Had the best fries here tonight. Staff is always friendly. Cant beat the view. Bring your dog too and family friendly with Battery Park right there. If the park bathroom isn't open go to the police station. read more

I'm so sorry to be writing this but I feel the need... we used to love coming to Beansie's growing up, but it's definitely gone downhill. The hot dog was barely cooked, no grill marks. The cheeseburger was completely inedible to me - super super greasy soggy bread and the taste of the burger was just sub par. Lots of cheese though, which was the saving grace to my husband. The Michigan sauce was delicious on our hot dog. The chicken nuggets looked and tasted like super greasy McDonald's nuggets. I wish they had good chicken fingers. The fries were ok. Beansie's is all about feeling the joy of the view, the openness and beauty of the space, the lake, the joyful feelings I get in this location have been best described by photos :-) There's also the history of Battery Park, seeing New York Adirondack Mountains in the distance, being able to lie down in the grass, shoes off and feeling the grass under your feet, neighbors playing games with friends and families and feeling safe to touch the earth, in the summer, in the biggest city in Vermont :-).
