I know others seem to love this place but it didn't seem all that special to me. Prices are fine, service is fine, and I get the appeal of the concept, but execution not there for me. Maybe if I liked tartar sauce fish would have more flavor and it work more. The batter is nicely done and it's tasty enough that I ate it but I was mostly overwhelmed by the flavorless fries and would have liked more fish. They have other items on the menu so I would come back but the fish and chips wasn't something I would necessarily get again unless I didn't have other better options. read more

We found this place while on the ferry from NY to VT (crossing Lake Champlain). Such awesome staff and a great menu. While I frequently order chicken Caesar wraps, this one was top notch and I learned I definitely prefer shredded lettuce (easier to get in a good bite). My men ordered a variety - a Philly hot roast beef, meatloaf sandwich and fish & chips. We went with their bread suggestions and were not disappointed. Places like Union Jack's are the reason why we try to find local stops for meals rather than fast food chains. Also - a clean restroom was available! Service was very friendly and speedy. We enjoyed our experience and the food was tasty. The dining area was very clean and the open deli/kitchen area also looked very clean. I like that they all wore gloves and they compost! They also had an option for gluten free bread for the Reuben I ordered. For the two sandwiches pictured, the total was $24.00. Cool little spot. A wide variety of sandwich choices and bread choices. I didn't try the fish and chips, but they looked really good. Both the sandwiches we did have were really good. Well, haddock and batter was excellent and definitely the English batter real deal. I saw while there the subs, paninis and the hone made sub rolls 4-5 different roll options... I stopped back next day for a hot panini. I ordered the small 6" turkey club, cranberry, fresh tomatoes,cheddar cheese, on a Parmesan jalapeño sub roll . Excellent sub and the tomatoes were many and fresh and Vermont fresh ... Cranberry jam or sauce was dah bomb on sandwich. Small was my plenty and freshness of roll and flavor of roll was also key... 9.99 for sub was reasonable for quality. How can anyone even think about going to a subway when this is available. These are the best fish & chips I have ever had! We came in on a weekday afternoon, & the guys here were super warm & friendly. They took our order & made everything fresh for us. This huge piece of fresh fish was so crispy! The fries' outsides were really crispy - but they were chunky enough to still be soft inside. Everything was perfectly salty & not greasy at all. They have a big menu here of sandwiches that sound great too. But it would be hard to come here & pass up the fish & chips. So good!! Highly recommend! read more

Stopped in for late lunch before heading up to the marketplace. The staff members were very friendly. I went with Fish-n-Chips for dine in, unfortunately they only had Pepsi products, so I went with water... sorry not a Pepsi fan, Coca Cola for life :) It took about five minutes for the food to come out. The fish was perfectly fried, as well as the fries. The fish was bit on the darker side, which meant that the oil needed to be changed, but it was still good. The fries were generously seasoned with salt, could have stayed in the hot oil for few more minutes for extra crisp. The fish was well seasoned and perfect amount for one person. Looks like lot of folks come in for subs, so if I'm ever in town again, will have to try their subs. Best fish and chips around these parts! Haddock, perfectly fried. House cut chips, skin on, crunchy outside, done inside. Good slaw, with green and red cabbage, not too much mayo or sugar. Service was friendly, place has some nice outside seats if you can score some. Their hours and days are very limited, so make sure they're open before you go. The sandwiches are also very good, neat, the way I like. Be warned: no coffee or hot drinks. Will be returning to try rest of menu. Only thing missing is a nice salad. read more

Absolutely loved this place! My mom and I stopped in for a quick lunch before we hit the road for a few hours. Staff was unbelievably nice, and there was a huge variety of food on their menu. Really good roast beef sandwich. Pricing is a little steep, but in line with other prices in the area, and you get more meat than average. I usually get a roast beef sandwich with cheddar and various vegetables. It's often a little bready, but pretty good. I recommend the english mustard if you *really* like horseradish. Its intensely spicey, but really flavorful. I usually ask them to apply it only lightly. They used to have a combo deal with a fountain drink, but when I asked them about it they told me just to grab a drink from the fridge; I grabbed a monster energy which is taking advantage of that lol, but they didn't say anything. The staff are friendly (gave me a friendly warning about the mustard) and move through a line super quickly. I haven't ever had the fish and chips, but it looks and smells good. They have plenty of seating area and its nice enough I've chosen to eat my sandwich there a couple times. They have plenty of parking and its easy to access. Best sandwich I've found in the area without considering price. In summation, the ingredients are quality, the sandwich has good ratios, and the staff are friendly, but it's not an out of this world sandwich. read more

Really great fried fish filet for only $7! We stopped by Union Jacks to get a quick lunch in a very snowy day. Surprisingly, there was a decent line around 2pm (seems that most were locals and regulars who go there to get there sandwiches). I'm always a fan of fish and chips, but don't always find great ones as many places have too little fish and too much batter - but Union Jacks gets it right! The fish filet was large and fresh and there was just the right amount of batter so that it's crispy but not too doughy. The fish inside was tender and juicy! I do have to say that I wasn't the biggest fan of their chips/fries - there were very thick and almost a bit soggy. I personally prefer crisper fries. Their onion rings, however, were very good! So I would recommend ordering a la cart with a piece of Fish Filet and a side of onion rings! They also seem to have some amazing (and huge if you order the 12' ones) sandwiches - too bad I didn't have a large enough stomach to try one! read more

What a great find! I had a Cuban sandwich here awhile back- it was a great sandwich. Wish they had it on the menu, or at least weekly or monthly special. Tonight I had the Union Jack special of the day, BBQ with jalapeño slaw- Wow, another great sandwich. My partner had the Italian, a great sandwich as well. Went in a few days ago for fish and chips. The fish and thick fries were very dark, maybe a touch overcooked. The fish was huge and tasted good. The breading was so thick the fish easily slid out of it. If you like a lot of breading, these are great fish & chips, I'm just used to a lighter batter. The fries didn't seem to have much flavor. I love this place! We found through our trusty friends on Yelp and we weren't disappointed!! First off, there was a line, but it moved very quickly. I anticipate it's a family business and they are truly from the UK by their accents. Though it was busy, no one seemed rushed when answering our questions. It felt as though they really wanted us to have something we would find delicious. My boyfriend asked, "onion rings or pickles?" When three separate men in line unanimously shouted "pickles!", we knew we were in a good, and regular driven, spot. So he went with the staple- fish and chips. Delicious. Wonderful tartar sauce. Fries seemed like they were probably Belgian style. I had the Turkey Lurkey- essentially Thanksgiving in a panini. The meat and cheese was freshly sliced in front of us. Fried pickles- served with ranch. They were more of stackers than spears, which made them less juicy, and probably a lot easier to eat. Everything was delicious. My favorite thing about all though- how nice everyone was! They all smiled, seemed truly happy to be helping and seemed actually excited when you told them how much you enjoyed their food.
