The Sizzler. Yummy but a bit hard to eat in the car -- double the paper so it doesn't leak!
    Dave K.

They say it's the best burger in Burlington and I was not disappointed. From a hole in the wall, minimart comes The Sizzler and many other special burgers that are just darn good. Lots of meat great toppings a little hard to eat in the car as it was so juicy it melted through my silver paper but other than that A+ experience.

Still some of the best burgers in the Queen City. Fresh ground beef patties and toppings cooked to perfection nice and juicy.

Basic cheeseburger, fries, and the Sizzler.

Wow! Best. Hamburger! What was so good? - fresh meat - fresh bun - fresh toppings - great taste - large serving sizes (we couldn't finish it all) - crispy fries - made to order - fair price This was an unexpected hidden jewel. The grill is inside a convenience type store that also sells fresh meats. There is no seating, so this is a to go meal. But the food stands on its own merit and deserves a 5 star rating! Next time you have a taste for a burger, try The Shopping Bag!

This is the treat they sent for my pup!

I freaking love this place. I only find myself in this neighborhood once or twice a year, and I always make a point to come to Shopping Bag. I always have my dog with me when I come on this particular trip, and I ordered her a plain hot dog with no bun and specified in the online order that it was for my dog so they would not put anything on it. They sent her own container with a special message for her, with her own hot dog all cut up, and some extra bacon to boot. How do you not love a place that is so AMAZING to a dog?!?! Their burgers and fries are mind-blowing. I love this place. Wish I lived closer.

This place was a pleasant college-greasy-spoon surprise. The guys at the grill were gruff and efficient. The two burgers were made as requested with changes to the cheese and condiments handled correctly. Most of the customers seem to be neighborhood locals so if you're staying at a hotel during covid make sure to get any ketchup or utensils you may need. The hamburgers were large and very tasty. The next time I go I want to see if they will tell me what spices they use on the burgers. If you happen to know the spice mix please let me know! We got onion rings and a large fries. Both were crunchy deep-fried yumminess. Will definitely eat here any time I'm in Burlington.

Good old fashion burgers with inventive toppings. Veggie patties/ beyond burgers available. So good! I will be dreaming of these until my next visit to Burlington

    Double Doug...beast!!!

Cheeseburger was huge and toppings super fresh. Burger made to order but it was overcooked (well done) for my taste. Patties are super thick so it should be easy to leave some pink in there man!!! Medium, medium, medium. I got the Double Doug (which is basically just a double cheeseburger with whatever cheese, condiments, veggies you want) for 6.95 plus tax. Definitely worth it. I could only eat half at one sitting! Some undesirable crackhead drunk homeless vagrant types milling around that neighborhood and if I was a hot young chickie, I doubt I'd want to be down there all alone, especially at night, no way. When I walked in, a wannabe gangsta homeslice homeskillet was yelling really loud across the establishment to the guy that made my cheeseburgah and was using a bunch of fbombs, which don't usually bother me none as I ain't virgin to such sayin's , but I'm not a huge fan of them in public places, especially right when I walk in the door. There were little neighboorhood kids like 8 feet away buying stuff like candy at the counter so I thought that was super uncool. Employees were obviously used to it and totally ok with it...just be aware...may not want to bring the rugrats with you here. Prices seem fair and they take credit cards! You order at the main checkout counter and he enters your order into their computer system and it gets transferred across the room to the grill...that said, go to grill to look at menu and figure out what you want to order, then head to cashier counter behind you to give him your order and pay, then head back to the grill to get your grub. Easy. Nothing to it. Takes a bit of time to get your grub since it's made to order, but that ain't no thing. They do tenders, mozzarella sticks, hot dogs, wings, subs, fries, o rings...good prices and big servings! I'll come back, knowing full well in advance that I might see some people and hear some people I don't really want to. Strictly to go service here. I saw no tables anywhere...oh and it's inside a convenience store so you can pick up all that stuff too if you want, including craft beers, lottery tickets, and cigs.

This is the sizzler burger with everything on it.

It doesn't look like much but this little hole in wall produces some serious flavor in the burgers you won't go hungry here good portion of fries and the burger was big

Sizzler w/onion ring. Extra mayo extra pickle for one bomb ass burger. $15-20 burgers elsewhere got nothing on "The Bag" trust me!

Once again excellent burgers for a reasonable price. Got to love the shopping bag! So much character in the heart of the Old North End. Don't change a thing.

Finally made it to the shopping bag and was not disappointed, I got the sizzler- it was MASSIVE juicy and rich, It is about as good a classic burger as you can get. I generally prefer things like avo, bbq, peppers/onions etc on mine to spice up the flavor... but I didnt wanna stray from what theyre known for. If youre looking For an exceptional classic burger and a local beer definitely stop by!

    The Sizzler.... Loaded!!!

Awesome food!! The service was great!! All employees were very polite!! Will definitely go back.

A sister restaurant to Foam Brewers!…read more We spent a weekend in Burlington, VT visiting breweries, wine bars, a comedy show, eating, shopping and it was wonderful. Deep City was a recommendation for brunch from a local. It is the sister restaurant to Foam Brewers (right next door). When we walked in there was a small wait but not bad. We headed over to the brewery to grab coffee and to check it out. It is definitely a cool spot. They have a huge selection of beer, a small wine program (who knew) and small bites. Unfortunately they did not have TVs or else we would've come back to watch the football game but we did purchase some beer before heading back over for brunch at Deep City. The menu here is a little more Mexican-forward think Huevos Rancheros, but there was still plenty of items that looked appealing. We split the banana bread with maple walnut cream cheese (to die for) to share as an app which was fresh and delicious. I also ordered a fruit cup which was also good. We then shared their Huevos Verdes which is similar to Huevos Rancheros except it came with a tomatillo salsa. It was good but very sloppy to eat. Overall it was a great experience, and service was phenomenal. A great brunch place while visiting Burlington VT.

First of all, they have a parking lot, which is free to park in, which was super convenient. The menu is interesting and everything sounded so good, including the daily features (duck hash, yum)! It made it super difficult to decide what to order, but we eventually settled on the biscuits and herb gravy, the across the pond, a side of the cheesy kale, the polenta breakfast dish, and the trout and eggs. Our server was super patient and kind and the food was amazing. I don't usually like biscuits and gravy that much, but their vegetarian gravy was so tasty. It reminded me a bit of broccoli cheddar soup in the best way, and the biscuits were flaky. I'd had the English breakfast plate at Penny Cluse before, and this one was even better. I loved the mushrooms and the sausage. The cornmeal crusted trout on the trout and eggs plate was crispy and not fishy at all, and the best trout I've ever tried. I loved that everything we ordered was so saucy since I'm a big sauce girl. This place is high on my list to revisit when I'm back in Burlington!

It was a long line when we got there. Ordered drinks and food at the same time. After about 45 minutes still without our burger and salad. My wife asked for an update. They said there were some "kinks" in the kitchen and it was going to be about another half hour. A server came by to see if we wanted to order any drinks while we waited and was going to charge us until my wife questioned that. After checking with her manager, our server was able to get us complimentary non-alcoholic drinks. The "kinks in the kitchen" were really understaffing due to a lack of preparation for a busy weekend. About 45 minutes later, we got our food and asked for boxes to bring it home. I had ordered a Kale and beet salad with fried chicken for $19. This couldn't have been much more than 2 cups of salad. Once I opened it at home at around 9:00 p.m. and saw the three pieces of fried chicken remnants, I couldn't believe that this is what I waited 2 hours to eat. At no point was there any attempt at service recovery; No manager came by to update. It was an incredibly poor performance for this Winooski staple. It felt like they were treating everyone different as a one-time tourist customer, forgetting that there were possibly people there that are repeat customers. I felt bad for our server because she should not have been bearing the brunt of this on her own. She had no support from any manager. I'll stick to the beer, but won't bother with attempting food again.
