Yes, Beanstalk is a bit on the pricier side in terms of consignment stores, but I did find a number of goodies for each of my kiddos from PJ's to swim wear to toys. Beanstalk has some frustratingly limited hours, making it difficult to patronize on the regular (especially during the work week!), but when you do manage to get in the door, there's some fantastic treasures to be found here. Although it is primarily a consignment children's clothing store, you'll also find no shortage of wonderful, analog toys to plant the seeds of imagination in your little ones, in the hope that they'll sprout into clever, intelligent, fully-functioning, not-screen-addicted adults! This must be a conscious choice, because I could find nary an electronic device anywhere in the shop! Big kudos from me on that point alone! As for the clothing, let's just say, you're spoilt for choice. While some of the items are a little on the pricier side than I would like for a consignment shop, the quality of the clothing here is impeccable: clean, well-organized, and a healthy variety of sizes and styles. Everything you could need for any age, from newborn and toddler, up through the early grade school years: shirts, pants, dresses, hats, coats, shoes (TONS of shoes!), costumes, and all sorts of accessories! There's also a small selection of baby stuff in the back, including cribs, swings, and a host of different devices that I have no clue as to their function, but will assuredly be learning about them in the coming months (my wife is due next month)! In the last year, I have come to learn that shopping for a new child sucks, mostly because there is a dearth of places that have any quantity of clothing and accessories, outside of the big box stores, which I would prefer not to frequent, if possible. Thankfully, Beanstalk is here to pick up the slack, but you DO have to make an effort to get here during operating hours, particularly if you work during the week: Saturday (from 10am to 5pm) is your only real available option. read more

This used to be a good, if pricey, kids consignment store but the prices here are just silly now. $22 for a faded Tea tunic or mildly trashed Boden dress. $20 for a stained kate Quinn dress. $15 for Tea leggings with their best days behind them. You can get them for less new. I went in recently and it's crammed with unsold clothing because the price points are not realistic. You can still get decent deals on shoes and books here, though. And sometimes on toys. I love shopping used--I'm all about it! And I would love to like this shop again. But, I feel like if this store maintains high prices for very used clothes, it's headed for failure, which would be a shame and a loss to Portland parents. read more

Been there a handful of times to shop and it's a pretty great store but a lot of the times it's customer service that gets me to write a review. Went in today to do consignment with them. I called to see if someone could help me take down things because I had some heavy things and didn't want to leave my son in the car by himself. Érica came out and helped me.. off the bat she was extremely helpful since it was my first time taking things in. She answered all my questions especially the cloth diaper questions and told me a lot about which ones she recommends/uses herself. Bought a few pairs and also went home with the cutest kids wardrobe for my son. Five stars for the store and five stars for Érica! So 10 stars in all. Will be coming in more frequently. read more

Update: I was contacted following my review and have since visited both locations. I was able to find several items I was looking for, left many items for consignment, and had great services experiences. They did a great job of making it right! This place has a great selection of reasonably priced kids goods, but the service experiences are enough to keep me from wanting to return, despite the fact that it's in my neighborhood. I've only been three times and two of them have left me frustrated. A previous visit saw me standing, unacknowledged, at the purchase counter while the employee accepted consignment items, including from a customer who entered the store after I was already in line. After over five minutes, another employee finally emerged from the back to help me. Why couldn't they have said, "someone will be with you in a minute?" Or called for help from the back sooner? Today I called ahead to make sure they'd accept the item I had to sell, as any trip out of the house with a six month old is tough enough, without finding out you've wasted your time. I arrived at 5:12, and was informed by an employee that they don't accept consignment items after 5:00. The person who had helped me on the phone made no mention of that policy, despite the fact that had called about an hour before and indicated I was coming. Considering that the item had already been approved in advance, I was so frustrated to have made the trip for no reason. For a business that caters to families with young children, more responsive service is a must, in my book. I doubt I'll be back. read more

This is not the closest children's consignment store to me, but I go out of my way to support this business because it's my favorite. I consign as well as make purchases here, and I come in every 3 months or so. I am always happy to see how much they take and I get a decent amount of credit for it too. I usually use my credit to buy other things for my kids there. I love the clothing brands they carry and I have found so many other really neat finds. My favorite purchase was a children's drum set for my son a few years ago! read more

Beautiful selection of gently used and new children's items. We were vacationing from So Cal and forgot to pack the stroller. We came here and found a perfect fold up one for a really great price. Every time I visit Beanstalk, I find useful, good quality consignment items that I feel good about buying for my baby. Recently, I called the Montevilla store to find out whether they had any foam floor tiles for my little one who is on the move. Not only did they have a beautiful, gently used set that was completely affordable, but they were so helpful and kind, and even put them on hold for me. Carmen was also extremely helpful in discussing safety details about flooring for babies. I have only had great experiences with Beanstalk and gladly recommend their quality items and people. I am glad they are choosy about their consignment purchases, so that you do not have to sort through their offerings. They run a great consignment shop that I trust for my baby. read more
