I didn't look at every piece of clothing here but what I purchased was all from brands I haven't heard of before, and really lovely stuff, so in addition to adding the shop on Instagram I'll have to check out the brands too. The woman helping me was very friendly, happy to help but to give me space. I bought a top for my babe and when I was looking at it she mentioned she had a navy colorway, which wasn't out on the floor but she went to get it for me to take a look at and I MUCH preferred it to the green one I had seen and was considering. I can't wait to see her in it! It's not a cheap shop, particularly if you're looking for clothing. But they had a sale going on when I was here and the two racks were packed with stuff. And the toys are generally not as high priced as the clothing if you're looking for a gift or something. If you're on a tour of children's stores in Portland, add this one to your list.

The woman who was at the store--the owner, I think, based on our conversation--was friendly and super helpful. She knows her merchandise inside and out. She carries clothing here that I've never seen before at the children's stores I usually visit in the Chicago area (I've already told the owner of one of them that she needs to look into these brands!). I really appreciated that she explained the sizing system since I was a bit perplexed at first (maybe she saw my confusion)--since some are brands based in other countries, they're sized by centimeter but the American sizing equivalent is on the back of the tag (though can we talk about that cm/in sizing system for a moment, because it would make my life infinitely easier when trying to buy kid clothes....) Almost the moment I walked into the shop I zeroed in on this adooooorable pantsuit for my daughter, and a darling dress. I'm buying a little larger for her since she's a high percentile child and I'm looking forward to seeing her in these when she's big enough to wear them. They also sell local goods--I bought a Portland-themed t-shirt for the babe. I asked about a local shoe company I'd heard of that listed BW as a retailer and though they don't carry that brand any longer, she showed me a different local brand they carry called Ozznek (which has super cool shoes with removable soles!!) and I bought two pair for my little. This lovely little store was worth the visit; I will definitely return and I'm keeping an eye on their socials. I think they ship as well so between that and stopping in when I'm home visiting my mom I can keep my babe in cool duds. Parking is on the street, and it was easy for me in late morning/early afternoon on a Thursday, but I'm not sure if they have any parking lots or garages for visitors to Portland's Boise neighborhood.

Fortunately, places like Pinwheels help take the edge off of clothing and entertaining the little guy! Clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, books, games, strollers, swings: it's all here! And it's all a bargain! Lightly used? Just about everything seems about as close to brand new as possible; *I'd* certainly never know the difference. There's even a "diaper depot" (as I like to call it anyway): a drop box where you can donate extra diapers you no longer need, so that others less fortunate can take them for free; a heartwarming touch that immediately endeared me to this place. The owner is a vibrant, wonderful woman who immediately engaged us upon entering, and make the whole experience a true pleasure. And she has an eye for style, quality, and most important in a resale shop: cleanliness! We bought a pair of shoes and a few toys this time around, but I foresee many return visits to Pinwheels, and not just to re-sell the clothes my son outgrows. I'd rather shop here for his needs than any big box store in the Portland area.

In addition to clothes, they have books, toys, shoes, and even some movie DVDs. The tiny store is well organized. They are picky with what they accept, which is why buyers may be happier and give higher ratings than those looking to consign.

On one visit, I arrived just a few minutes past the posted consignment drop-off time--with a large bag of items--and was turned away without any flexibility. As a mom juggling kids and schedules, that kind of all-or-nothing response felt unnecessarily inflexible and not very aligned with the realities of the customers they serve. There was also a separate incident involving an item that was handled in a way that felt lacking in communication and follow-through, which added to the overall frustration. As someone who works in sales and customer service, I fully understand the importance of policies--but also the importance of discretion, tone, and making customers feel valued. Unfortunately, that hasn't been my recent experience. I hope there's a return to the more customer-focused experience this store used to provide.

Although it is primarily a consignment children's clothing store, you'll also find no shortage of wonderful, analog toys to plant the seeds of imagination in your little ones, in the hope that they'll sprout into clever, intelligent, fully-functioning, not-screen-addicted adults! This must be a conscious choice, because I could find nary an electronic device anywhere in the shop! Big kudos from me on that point alone! As for the clothing, let's just say, you're spoilt for choice. While some of the items are a little on the pricier side than I would like for a consignment shop, the quality of the clothing here is impeccable: clean, well-organized, and a healthy variety of sizes and styles. Everything you could need for any age, from newborn and toddler, up through the early grade school years: shirts, pants, dresses, hats, coats, shoes (TONS of shoes!), costumes, and all sorts of accessories! There's also a small selection of baby stuff in the back, including cribs, swings, and a host of different devices that I have no clue as to their function, but will assuredly be learning about them in the coming months (my wife is due next month)! In the last year, I have come to learn that shopping for a new child sucks, mostly because there is a dearth of places that have any quantity of clothing and accessories, outside of the big box stores, which I would prefer not to frequent, if possible. I needed to get my baby a walker and I was able to come here and have him test out a few. This was amazing because I had no idea what to get or what he would even like. We also found this activity table and again we were able to look and compare and see which one caught his interest. We got an activity table when he was around 8 months and learning to stand and he's almost one and still loves it! Great affordable clothing too with frequent sales. I love how they have sections with themes too! The Halloween selection was huge and the Christmas section is huge too. My son is recently into Barney so I went to find a Barney book, not the new weird Barney, the 90's Barney and I was so excited when I found one! And for only $1.50, my son's been flipping the pages everyday since! You can sell or trade your used or new baby items as well. I haven't done this yet but it's cool they have the option. As someone that has lived in Troutdale my whole life, I love to support small businesses in my hometown. I ventured into the store without even an acknowledgment. I was not greeted, and I spent some time in the store to the point that I was the only shopper. Even passing by the front desk I felt it was cold. I base my rating on my cold experience. As a person of color, I did not feel welcomed. I saw some items that are way overpriced as online they are cheaper. I get a few dollars more for a locally owned business, however, at this point, I couldn't justify spending my money with this place of business. I would highly recommend making a point to have better customer service.
