2/25/2023 - Oh Portland...
Mikhail H.

I like a previous reviewer stating that not all Fred Meyer locations are created equal because I seriously could not agree more. I was in the area... The amusing thing to me is that I lived on 68th & Glisan for several years in the way back, prior to Yelp being a 'thing'. This was my store because it was next to my house I was living at and, let's be honest here folks...there STILL, to date is not really another grocery store anywhere nearby! So, friends if you live over here, I am deeply sorry as this store lacks much reason to do better since they have zero competition. It did not occur to me to mind in the way back but now I am a snotty old person who lives in Beaverton where I grocery shop at a multitude of stores. While perusing this store I was realizing that I am happily freaking spoiled. Let's have another conversation about being an ADA person - I have a ruptured Achille's and hobble around with a cane. Of course the whole side swells up just as we get another snow dump, of course it does and hay, I just try to be mindful but there is a point... Legitimately until you have troubles getting around - you just do not understand simple things that can be a huge complication for a person with a wheelchair, cane or walker - or who doesn't have a device but challenges. But then there are things like the only parking lot section you did not bother to shovel being the ADA section?!?! This store seems to lack a lot of the stock of the other stores as well and seriously, check dates of everything you buy... I have been noticing that many of the stores have lots of stuff which is expiring the next day right next to another same item which was good for weeks. The folks working throughout this whole store though seemed xtra.

I just find this particular location weird and unsatisfactory and try my best to not have to stop here for groceries. They have an EV charging station out front and that brings me here a few times. The layout is different than other Fred Meyers and almost always they are either not fully stocked or don't have the right items . The fresh produce section is also dismal and the quality is just not at par with other Fred Meyers . I have had minimal Staff interaction so cant really comment on that .

Ablution, bright shade loving flower

My favorite area of this Fred Meyer's is the garden section. While smaller than the NE Weidler store's garden area, they often have the plants I need. The selection is vast and varied with many unique varieties. Hydrangeas in color combos I've never seen; bright shade loving plants like ablution and tuberose begonia; and premade shade and sun loving planters. Plus all the basic colorful annuals and perennials. It's super convenient to pull right up to this area, peruse the plants, and load up your car. The rest of the store is your basic Freddie's, carrying housewares, clothing, toys, furniture, kitchenware, paint, hardware, office supplies along with full grocery store. The layout is a bit confusing but that could be because I've been shopping at the NE Weidler store for 20 years. Staff is friendly and helpful. Store is clean, well stocked, lines move quickly, plenty of self checkouts . And if you live in this area, exponentially better than the Gateway location.

Say hi to security!

I had to return things while the store was very busy. Anne and Amber helped me out so quickly.

There's so many photos of this place, you get the idea…read more A great addition to the neighborhood, and a destination if not close. Their wine bar is fantastic, and good-priced, and it was fun to watch the last of the World Cup here today. If you're looking for something special or hard to find, this is the place, much like the old Pastaworks was on Hawthorne. They really shine on their produce, pasta and fresh meats here, and there's always something new, but I love that you can count on the bakery for your focaccia and other fresh breads. Cheese case is like Rue Cler, Paris--so much selection and they will tell you about each one of them. Don't be afraid to just ask a lot of questions. I wish that they did some little items in the bakery, one of my fondest memories from childhood was going to Pastaworks with my dad and getting a breadstick, probably eating it before we even paid (we did), as we strolled around, and where's the peanut sauce for pasta, another favorite of the old days, yup, I'm old. Can't say enough good things about this place, it can add up though as others have mentioned, but, if you keep to a list or just slow the roll on the impulse buy, it's actually reasonable and you know you're getting what you're paying for. I've never regretted a purchase here or thought it unfair. I mean, it says Fine Foods right there in the name...:) Thank you for the amazing ingredients for dinner tonight, cheers!

Usually the staff are friendly but it's a hit or miss. Today around 5 pm I was checked out by…read moreSylvia P. and her posse of coworkers. I spent several minutes waiting near the register for her to even acknowledge me while she giggled and gossiped with them. Finally, she asked me how I was doing, I responded 'oh I'm fine,' and she clearly wasn't listening to me (going back to talking to her other co workers on the next register) because she asked me yet AGAIN how I was doing in a more ruder tone. The bagger was also side tracked by the other co workers and didn't help me bag at all. Maybe split them apart next time. Annoying as hell.

A place where cauliflower masquerades as pizza crust, peanut butter cups are basically currency, and somehow, inexplicably, 3-5 dark chocolate hazelnut bars end up in my cart every single time. What I love: --Avocados that are just the right level of ripe, like some sort of mystical fruit sorcery. Seriously, how does Joe pull this off, time after time? --Cheese aisle nirvana--who knew you needed blueberry goat cheese? Trader Joe's knew. --Unexpectedly fancy frozen meals that make you feel like a world traveler in sweatpants. --$5 flowers that trick your house into looking like you have your life together. Red flags I should heed: --I pop in for "just one thing" and leave with an armful of mystery snacks and three kinds of hummus. --I become emotionally attached to a seasonal item, and then--poof!--it vanishes until next year. I'm looking at you, Lemon Pesto! --Parking lot chaos. Every Trader Joe's lot is a gladiator-style tournament where only the boldest survive. Seriously, the parking pissing me off. Get it together, Joe. Still, it's a magical land of snacks, surprises, and affordable gourmet delights. I would get lost in your aisles again and again, Joe. Oh, yeah--service is impeccable, and it's always spotless and well-stocked.
