I booked a 4-hour salmon charter, and it was tough to talk the wife into even that--she gets seasick on boats sometimes. (But Alaska, and Salmon!!) Chris answered all my questions ahead of time, picked us up, and off we went to the boat. He had everything we needed--just wear rubber-soled shoes, and warm clothes/rain gear. Chris had to navigate thru REALLY thick fog in the marina & first part of the channel to get to the fish. He thought it'd break up once we got out further, and it did. He set up the rods for us, and we were off. I know that experience isn't everything when finding fish. Sometimes you're just not lucky. But being good definitely helps...these two novices caught the limit of 6 coho apiece! (That's about 40 pounds of salmon to send home). Since the wife was feeling good (and catching more than I was) she agreed to a little longer on the boat, and Chris was happy to accommodate. Before too long, we'd 'limited out' and were headed home. Chris gutted & took off the heads, took us to the processor (didn't have to do that, but it was TRULY appreciated!--we'll be able to pick up our fish in a couple days before we fly home!) Overall, just a really great experience. Chris has over 25 years of experience on these waters, and it shows. On top of that, he cares about giving you a great time. Appreciate it, Rum Runner...if we ever come back into town, we'll be happy to head out with you again!

We had a crew of 4 and were taken out by Captain John and deckhand Dylan for a half day salmon…read moretrip. Captain John was there to greet us at the dock and was very friendly and welcoming. We went out on the Hi Time boat a 30' which had plenty of room for fishing and warmth inside. We made it out to the fishing area within 15 minutes and had 4 rods in the water right away. The fishing was a little slow as we saw other boats not bringing in fish either and whales had entered the fishing area. While it was amazing to see whales, they do not help fishing. About halfway through the day my son hooked into a nice fish that was a great fight! He ended up landing a 30" King salmon, the biggest fish of his life! I caught a smaller chum salmon but was still fun to catch! My mother and father in law didn't get a chance to fish as we had no other bites. Dylan was working hard and being helpful to make the trip enjoyable and fun for everyone. He's a good kid and his family should be proud. He even let my son try fresh salmon eggs and salmon heart which he loved! Overall it was a great fishing trip and an experience that my son will never forget! We booked an 8 hour salmon and halibut fishing excursion and…read moreasked if they could find 1 or 2 more people to go out with us on the date of our tour so that the price would go down a bit since originally we only had 3 people. Captain Mike found us one other person to go which dropped our prices by around $20/PERSON. They were a little late starting the day because they had to pick up the other passenger from his cruise ship. Captain Mike said not to worry because they would keep us out longer to compensate for the lost time, which he did. Once we arrived at the first fishing spot, Captain David gave us a brief but thorough tutorial on how to reel in the big fish without hurting ourselves (backs) and tiring yourself out since we would be reeling from depths of 250-300 feet. This info was more valuable than I can tell you!! We went to 6 or 7 halibut fishing spots in the AM, then fished for salmon in the afternoon. We had a good catch overall for the day. Captain David event called out to his whale watching friends to find out if there were any whales to see that day. He took us over to where we might find them, but they were not around. He then took us to see some local sea lions up close and bald eagles in their natural habitat along the water. I appreciate the extra effort! When we got back to the dock, Jack gave us a masterclass on cleaning and filleting the halibut, rock fish, and cod we wanted to take with us to eat for dinner. He then gutted and beheaded the rest of the fish so they would be lighter for processing by the pound. Big Jim's suggested a fairly priced processing plant that froze our freshly caught fish and shipped it directly to our homes. --We had a great experience with Big Jim's Charters and will definitely book them when we return to Juneau and tell all of our friends to do the same! What was not disclosed is that nearly every stop outside downtown Juneau came with an additional $4-$5 per person charge, even for locations that are free and have no admission fee. We didn't receive this information until after boarding the ship, just three days before the tour. For a group of ten, these extra charges added up quickly -- we were even told that stopping briefly to take a photo at the whale statue would cost an additional $50. That is not an "entrance fee." It's an undisclosed surcharge for basic sightseeing stops, and it fundamentally changes the value of the excursion. The $750 base price did not provide the kind of private, customizable tour the listing suggests -- it mostly covered the vehicle and driver while requiring additional payments for most destinations. When we raised concerns, the response from the operator was essentially "too bad." We cancelled the trip and booked with a tour operator that didn't charge bogus fees. I would not recommend this operator to anyone.

That aside, and despite my utter disappointment, Alaska Galor Tours, or whatever of the three companies officially did this, knocked it out of the park, from the naturalists Coral and Nick, to Captain Anise or something, it was all ship shape and wonderful. We learned a number of facts and other information about sharks, whales, and local wildlife. On the trip we saw a pod of Orca's playing and frolicking for us then found pack of four humpback whales feeding in same area, not bubble feeding. Nick was able to identify three of the whales, one of them was a female whale that had 6 babies in last 7 years. Hats of to the crew and shore staff that coordinates all this. While I am very disappointed didn't get to the lighthouse am grateful they rescheduled us and refunded the price difference. When come back to Alaska will likely book another route with this group. Do recommend.

Communication was excellent from the moment we were picked up. Every step of the tour was clearly explained, making everything easy to follow and stress-free. Joe and Sophie were not only incredibly knowledgeable about the glacier and the surrounding area, but they also kept the group entertained with their great sense of humor. They did an excellent job keeping us on schedule, ensuring we made it back to the cruise port with plenty of time. Their professionalism, organization, and enthusiasm made this one of the highlights of our Alaska trip. If you're visiting Juneau and want an unforgettable glacier experience, I highly recommend Liquid Alaska Tours--and if you can, ask for Joe and Sophie!

We booked Liquid Alaska Tours for our canoe experience as there were very little excursions…read moreavailable since we booked so last minute. We booked through Tripadvisor and the cost for the canoe for each person was about $230 each (pricey, I know). We were pretty bummed when we found out that our tour didn't include getting off the canoe to get up close to the glacier, especially since the price was quite steep. The photos on Tripadvisor and Viator show that the people do in fact get off the boat, but apparently it was incorrect (false advertisement imo). What I will say was the saving grace was the fact the scenery of this canoe ride was epic. There's a lot that can't be seen unless you take a helicopter, seaplane, kayak, or canoe up close to the Mendenhall Glacier. Our tour guide, Dawson was also great. He was full of dad jokes throughout the whole canoe ride. P.S. Don't think you're gonna get off this easy! The canoe ride was an exercise to say the least! My arms were sore the next day!

The fishing was fun, but getting to know the other guests was one of the best parts -- it made the whole experience feel like a great group adventure. The last night's video presentation was really entertaining, and then Kenji (the big boss) gave a heartfelt speech appreciating a couple of longtime guest who's been coming for over 20 years. You could tell how much it meant to him -- he even got emotional, which shows how passionate he is about his business and his guests. Afterward, he gave every one of us a hug. Thanks, Kenji and the whole team, for such a memorable experience. I'll definitely be back!

Even though I got stuck in the middle of a zip line, between our zip line adventure and our visit…read moreto the sled dog musher's camp in the same day, it was hard to imagine a more perfect day in Alaska. The trip here started with a motor boat trip past pretty pretty scenery (see the picture I uploaded of a stream trickling down the mountain) to an abandoned gold mine. So far it's sounding like a Scooby Doo episode, but sadly there's no Ghost of Yukon Joe scaring off young whippersnappers from stealin' his claim. From there you're driven in an ATV up the steepest incline ever (30 degrees?) to the zip lines. This was our first time ever zip lining and I was afraid I'd be afraid, but I felt very calm the entire time and very safe, and was more interested in looking around while in the air. We considered zip lining on our honeymoon in Thailand - I'm sure the place in Thailand was insured, right? - but we decided to do it in the States instead so we wouldn't die. Our two guides carefully showed us everything we needed to know and then we were off, flying through the rainforests. We were told some segments took 30 seconds to zip across. I'm not sure if that's an exaggeration or if time felt like it passed faster while we were doing it. The highest segment was 180 feet off the ground. So yeah, I did get stuck in the middle of one of the lines. My glove got caught in the mechanism at the top of the zip line. Thankfully I wasn't scared - I just thought it was funny - and one of the guides rescued me. Our group of 8 - 6 strangers and ourselves - was pretty awesome. It even felt like the instructors wanted to hang with us, like we were the coolest group ever. The instructors warned us about banging into each other since we're all attached to the same lines, and after that there were a lot of banging jokes. It was noted that if you don't move your hand away in time after zipping down one of the lines you could get "finger banged." Our guides were really fun and one (Tyler?) would punctuate sentences by suddenly flying off down a zip line. If you thought smashing a phone down was a good way to punctuate a sentence, you've never seen someone suddenly fly away. You can bring your camera (hence all my photos attached to this Yelp review). You can also have one of the guides shoot a video for you of what it's like to zip down one of the lines. At the end of the zip lines there's a really high suspension bridge that makes for great photo ops, and then you get to repel down from the platform. When it was all over we were given medals and a snack. We felt like contestants on The Amazing Race for the afternoon.

This was soooo much fun!! It was a rainy, cold day in…read moreJuneau, but I really feel like that made the experience even more memorable. Maggie and Riley were great guides through the course and encouraged anyone that was feeling a little scared. I mean, you're hundreds of feet up trees with a cable holding you! The excursion started with a a boat ride to the beach and then you take a short walk to the base camp to get all geared up and ready to go! After that, you take a ride in a Mercedes 4x4 truck, up the mountain not before you take a group photo, though : and from there you take a slightly steep short hike up the mountain to arrive at your 1st practice zipline. After you get the practice line out of the way, it's all awesomeness that follows! The views are amazing and the thrill of zipping on a 180ft line at 35mph is indescribable! Oh, and the suspension bridges are pretty awesome too...although they were the scariest part for me lol. My husband and 14 y/o daughter also did the excursion and loved it as well. We'd do it again and you won't regret taking a few hours out of your day to have this once in a lifetime experience! P.S. You even get a nice medal at the end of the tour to prove you "survived"! :) Great touch!
