Amazing tour! We saw 18 whales today. Small boat that feels really personable. Our tour guide Graham was extremely knowledgeable about the whales, bald eagles and local topography. Captain Bri really knows the whales, even by name. It really exceeded our expectations! Highly recommend!

Excellent tour saw things we would not see usually. Deven did a great job explaining the places we were going to see.

Money-saving tip: Skip the expensive excursions and take the Juneau Capital Transit bus from downtown to Dredge Lake Rd., which is the closest bus stop to Mendenhall. From there, it's about a 1.7-mile walk to the Visitor Center, followed by an easy 1.5-mile hike to Nugget Falls. The trail is well maintained and suitable for most people. The bus costs just $2 each way. Be sure to bring exact change or download the Token Transit app from the App Store to pay your fare. The bus system was easy to navigate, and we had no trouble figuring it out. In my opinion, this is one of the best values in Juneau. You get the same incredible glacier views and unforgettable experience that many people pay hundreds of dollars for on organized excursions. If you're comfortable walking a few miles, this is absolutely the way to do it!

Visitor center has an elevator to the 2nd floor that provides insight, views, and toilets. If in Juneau via a cruise ship you can access the park via both shore excursions and tour operators. No real complications on May 5, on that clear dry day, though 5 cruise ships were in port making the park entrance busy with both tourists and transports. It was a nice way to see a glacier, but the initial park area was crowded, so do not expect to escape from the bustle of tourists unless you explore deeper into the park.

Allen Marine Tours was fantastic. The boat picked us up directly from the ship as we were leaving Juneau around 1pm, and brought us back around 6pm. That really extended the day in a nice way. The boat moved at a relaxed pace through Stephen's Passage and into the Endicott Arm. The weather was glorious, something money can't buy! The scenery as we passed miles of coniferous rainforest and snow covered peaks was absolutely incredible. So calm and quiet, we never saw a single cabin or human on the shore. I felt so relaxed I napped twice. The guides were energetic and friendly, and very knowledgable. They interacted warmly with the guests, took pictures and answered every single question. They weren't in a hurry. When two bears were spotted, they stopped the boat for several minutes. The onboard snacks were actually -- dare I say it -- inexpensive! The crew provided coffee and hot chocolate free of charge, as well as warm donut holes. We spent a substantial amount of time up close to the glacier, probably close to an hour. We saw it calve several times. It's so massive and gorgeous, you don't understand the scale until you're close to it. Overall, worth every penny. Allen Tours made it special, relaxed, warm and memorable. It was the highlight of our trip.

Easy transport to the Mendenhall Glacier though the entrance was very busy with 6 cruise ships in port that day. Short walk to the visitor center, watch your time closely if doing a hike into the park, we had 4 guests not returning to our bus can only hope they used a related bus at departure time for the transfer to Statter Harbor. Not exactly a retreat into nature because of the crowds but still a nice stop. Not a long drive to Auke Bay, Statter Harbor and our transfer to the Whale Watching Boats. My excursion was on May 5th, weather was dry, and mostly clear. Complimentary warm beverages, and some nibbles were provided, plus other food and beverages for purchase, clean bathrooms, and sheltered seating on decks 1 and 2. Found my insulated jacket, gloves, and binoculars all useful, but even being sheltered it was cold on deck 2. The binoculars were helpful to view the humpbacks that we sighted, but so was the gps of my phone to know where the boat was in relationship to its surroundings, we sailed up the Saginaw Channel. In my opinion the sailing component makes sense if you enjoy the idea of a cruising the channel, with marine sightings as a bonus. Overall a good experience with the crew proving insights into this area of Alaska during Whale Watching component. Got back to my cruise ship post normal dinner service, but the Encore extended buffet hours, and I grabbed some food via the Local / Pub.

From MENDENHALL GLACIER to CRUISE port…read more Just wanted to share my story here is the pointers to get the quick over view: -Cheaper than the "bus tour" -May be cheaper than Lyft -Convenient -Courteous -Call ahead to see if they have a vehicle that fits everyone in your party -The taxi can pick you up in the parking lot nearest to the visitor center. Lyft has a designated pick up and drop off that is farther away. People the Taxi might be Cheaper!! Used the taxi from Mendenhall Glacier to our cruise. I checked on Lyft and it would have cost $78 (around 5 pm) for our party of 6. I called Juneau Taxi and the person speaking to me was kind, patient and informative. I asked if she could give me a quote for two stops and suggestions for a place to buy heels. Then I asked how long it would take for a taxi to get to us. I saw a taxi and told her I would call back if he was waiting for someone. As I was approaching his van another group came up to him. Thankfully the operator I was talking to earlier radio someone to drive over just in case. Carlita (taxi driver) was waiting for us :) as I was approaching her she asked if I was Kimberly. Just before we got into the taxi a man approached our driver and asked how much it cost to get back to the ship and she quoted give or take $45. We had 6 people in our party and we comfortably fit in to the van. He got charged $70 PER PERSON!!!! He was sitting with other people he didn't know and waiting for the bus. I forgot to pack my heels for formal night. Carlita had a suggestion to buy heels and asked over the radio where we should go. Someone over the radio suggested Alaskan Dames Consignment. Omg, this store had so many cute well taken care of items. The heels that I bought looked like it never had been worn. I had to will my self not to go crazy and only buy what I came for. This impromptu stop cost $5. In total it cost us $50. Carlita asked us if we finished shopping and suggested Alaska T-shirt's. It was a good suggestion because it was near the cruise ship and offered a variety of items. Overall it was worth it for us. This was our second time coming to Mendenhall Glacier. First time we use a bus shuttle to and back. We booked it when we got off the ship. This time we used the public bus $2 each person to get there over a mile walk from port to bus stop. When you get to the bus stop it's over a mile walk to get to the visitor center.
