My husband (!!!) and I just got married at the Bear Mountain Inn this past weekend and it was literally the most incredible wedding in the world. Nick and Jessica go above and beyond for their couples and Cassie is an incredible day of coordinator that makes you feel like you're at home on your big day. It was pouring rain all day on Saturday and the whole BMI team made our day so special. We decided early on to have our ceremony in the beautiful barn on site and it was literally the most beautiful set up I've ever seen at a wedding. We couldn't get over how beautiful everything looked. It is such an intimate and beautiful memory that is burned in our brains for life. Our wedding was for about 160ish people so we rented a tent to do our reception outside - this couldn't have been an easier process and the tent looked like a fairy tale out on the yard. When I tell you think is the most incredible wedding venue on the face of the Earth we so mean it. Every single moment our wedding was so perfect and it was really was made possible by the team at the Bear Mountain Inn. In November 2021 - I was able to visit for a day as part of a Women's Yoga retreat - I had a day pass. The drive to this location was rural but as you get closer the views are so beautiful. We drove by beautiful waterways - not sure if they were ponds or lakes, but they were beautiful and snow capped mountains in the distance - simply breathtaking as you drive further away from civilization. The location is easy to find, it's private enough for your events as well - far away from heavily traffic roads. There was plenty of parking for our group of 38 people (some of us did car pool). The grounds were so well kept - clean and neat and multiple outdoor fire pits to sit around, each with comfy chairs. The views of the water from the Inn grounds were so peaceful. You can also hike away from the water as well. So much nature to just take in, very calming for frayed nerves. The buildings are updated, but remain with a rustic style. Seems like pages right of a catalog. Gorgeous. The owners were so warm and welcoming to our group and very respectful of the privacy of the retreat. They took the time to welcome each of us and get to know us as people. Very much felt like we were guests in their home. It was fantastic. We hope to be able to visit again next year. This is a magical place now run by a sweet family, the Orgos. We'd spent our honeymoon here and returned 20 years later to find the property had been recently freshened up in a loving and chic way. It was special then and even more so now--a beautiful lake (it's called a pond, but it's a generous body of water), a huge barn for parties and receptions, a breakfast room serving delicious things, hiking, and plenty of space for relaxing and recharging. My wife and I were married at Bear Mountain Inn this past summer. The setting is incredibly beautiful, the accommodations are top notch, and the staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful. It poured rain on our wedding day, but the day went off without a hitch thanks to the team. I should also mention the food, which is excellent. The complimentary breakfast is incredible, and the owners are also the proprietors of M.A.N.E. Catering, which provided all of the food for our wedding (also fantastic). We have been back to stay several times since our wedding, and look forward to doing so many times in the future! read more

Bear Mountain Inn is located just an hour and half outside of Portland, Maine is my new favorite getaway destination. The Inn itself is beautiful and the grounds are well manicured. Beautiful inn adjacent to a gorgeous pond. The owners and staff (the breakfast chef) were incredibly helpful and supportive, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The inn and its rooms are both rustic and modern, with high speed internet and upscale furnishings. Breakfast was incredible, with a special nod to the homemade banana bread. While I prefer a bed larger than a queen, the sheets were warm and comfy. Double bunk beds were a treat for our teenager. Overall, a great place in the area! read more

I was here for a friend's wedding two weeks ago. A few guests (5 of us) were sitting on the benches chatting and catching up with each other the night of the wedding rehearsal. The owner of this place came up to us, and asked that we leave since we were not in the rehearsal at that moment. It was still early in the evening (bright summer evening), and we were not causing any disruption. We were invited there by the bride and the groom. We were not trespassers. We were shocked to be treated that way but left immediately as instructed by the owner. The next day... at the wedding reception, there were some seating issues, which the bride and the groom parties were sorting out. In the midst of this, the venue owner again came up to us (3 of us) and asked us to leave. We were escorted out by another staff member WHILE we were literally leaving the space. The rationale was that there wasn't enough space, and that we had to leave. We found out later that seating was eventually arranged for everyone but we had been kicked out of the wedding reception by the owner. Given the pattern of behavior, unfortunately, I am having a hard time coming up with a rational explanation for why we were treated in this manner repeatedly. The only explanation is: we are non-white; we are brown. I strongly believe that this would not have happened if were white. We were racially profiled, robbed of our dignity, and treated in an extremely humiliating way. We were told by the owner to vacate the premises during a dear friend's wedding we came to attend from as far as the west coast. This was a scarring, eye-opening experience, one that will be difficult to forget. I am writing this review as a heads up to those who might be considering this venue, especially individuals that are non-white. I hope you find a different venue that treats you with respect and values your humanity. read more

This is the perfect Inn to use when skiing Shawnee Peak. Brian and Julie could not be nicer. They have spruced up this antique inn and the historic barn is spectacular with original exposed beams and a brand new wide pine flooring. They also have a great pub adjacent to the inn. My fiancé and I stayed the night here and got to meet the NEW owners/innkeepers Julie and Brian. They took the time to show us around the property and made us feel so welcome. We stayed in the sugar bear cottage and unlike other hotels/ inns, our bed was SO comfortable and the cottage was equally charming with a wonderful lake view. The inn has some great amenities such as lake access (with paddle boards and kayaks), a hot tub, various fireplaces and a yummy breakfast. The innkeepers explained that they would be renovating and updating the inn and the property. We can't wait to return and are even thinking about having our wedding here! read more

My girlfriend and I booked the Sugar Bear Cottage at Bear Mountain Inn in the fall of 2010 to celebrate our one-year anniversary. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place. The cottage has its own wood-burning fireplace, and the inn-keepers provided an ample supply of tinder, kindling, and firewood, enough to keep the fire stoked for our full stay. This was one of the highlights for me. It allowed this city-slicker a rare opportunity to show off his long-latent Boy Scout skills. It also provided ambiance and warmth throughout or mostly soggy stay. Be prepared, however, for all your belongings to be bathed in that distinctive musk of burnt wood. It's a relatively small space, and even with the flue properly opened, it's impossible to avoid errant smoke finding its way to your suitcase. The cottage's covered porch overlooks the lake and the enormous lawn. Even on a rainy day, it provided great views. It was also a great spot to stand while playing a game of fetch with the insatiable (and notably bear-like) black lab, Izzy. When she finally got tuckered out, the Adirondack chairs were great for reading one of the many books that are scattered throughout the buildings. The Inn also possesses a great collection of DVDs, which you can watch in your room. With lodging, I find it's the little touches that make a big difference, and the inn-keepers at the Bear Mountain Inn have an eye for detail. For example, providing complimentary tubes of toothpaste was a tiny touch that saved us from having to go out in the pouring rain. There was another excellent example of the inn-keepers' attention detail during the breakfast. First it should be noted that the breakfast on each of our two mornings at the inn was delicious. The inn-keepers only used fresh ingredients, and they were very well prepared. I was also glad that that the breakfast was almost completely different on each of our two mornings. But what impressed me most was, after we indicated on the first morning that my girlfriend did not eat turkey bacon, on the following morning the sausage links were absent from her plate, without any further mention of this by us. There are many places that can put together a delicious meal, but this level of attention is difficult to find and much appreciated. I also found the inn-keeper Jim had the perfect disposition for running a bed and breakfast. He was a steady source of suggestions for things to do without being insistent. During breakfast, he facilitated conversation among the several couples, without making things uncomfortable. Also, it was very clear that he would bend over backwards to accommodate any request that anyone had. The only slight reservation that I have to offer is that I found it to be slightly pricey given its middle-of-nowhere location. I thought we got what we paid for, but I wouldn't call it a deal. All in all, we couldn't have asked for more. There is a very good chance this will become an annual tradition. read more

Spent two days here recently... we did like certain things and other things I think could use some improvement. Loved: - the accessibility to the lake - kayaks and canoes at your disposal - very peaceful. Spent a great nap in a hammock one afternoon - nice little hikes nearby - super lowkey... short driving distance to restaurants and other little quiet towns. - the jacuzzi in the Fuzzy Bear Room is super! - the mini fridge/bar area in the Fuzzy Bear Room is very nice. - the marshmellow/fire pit area was really nice and beautiful. Things I did not like: - the decor is definitely tacky and cluttered... could use some de-cluttering for sure!! I would do some major overhaul there and make it more streamlined. - the breakfast was only just OK. I think they tried hard, but it just didn't cut it for me. (Sorry!) - the tv in the room was super small (not that I went there for tv). Overall, the price was not cheap -- $285/night for the Fuzzy Bear Suite. However, we were really happy with our stay overall.... it was very peaceful there and lowkey and I loved Bear Pond and the kayaks and the hammocks. Nice view. read more

Spent our honeymoon here and loved every second of it. We were initially hesitant to book a "bed and breakfast" - we're not ninety, not necessarily in favor of forced social interaction and need an internet connection to breath. But, this place was perfect - the comforts of home without super close quarters, 25 acres to spread out in, and wifi throughout. There's this woodsy vibe throughout the decor and the rooms all share a Bear - based theme. Its warm and inviting as are the Proprietor, Jim, and his family run the place. They are all friendly, laid-back and accommodating - plus they have coolest old fetch-happy Black Lab (and you can even bring your own dog along depending upon which accommodations you choose). Breakfast every morning included some variety of home-baked deliciousness, canoes and kayaks sit on the Inn's private beach for guest use, easy access to hiking and beautiful views and an outdoor fire pit for late-night fireside smores. It rained for the first few days of our visit, but we just spent them watching raindrops through the overhead skylight while soaking in our private hot tub and lounging around in fluffy terry cloth robes drinking complimentary champagne and eating homemade cookies. Our room - The Great Grizzly - included a comfy king-size bed, giant jacuzzi, over-sized shower, bar with mini-fridge, private entrance with balcony, and leather couches to lounge as you look out a picture-window-framed Bear Pond. We had the most relaxing stay here and definitely plan to return. I can't recommend the Bear Mountain Inn enough. read more

Spent the weekend in Maine for a wedding nearby in Lovell, and at the grooms suggestion booked a room at the Bear Mtn Inn. So glad we did! The whole property is the perfect blend of nature and a rustic experience, but with the comfort of hot tubs and soft bedsheets! The hosts were incredible, very doting and genuinely friendly. We stayed in the "White Pine" room and it was quiet and private. We had a fridge and coffee in the room and a giant bathtub. During the day I didn't even leave the property, they have everything you need there! Kayaks, canoes, hiking trials, wildlife, fire pits with s'mores kits. I would definitely come back! read more

I wish I could give this Inn more than 5 stars! It deserves all of the stars. The attention to detail is incredible. Each room at the inn is a piece of art and the decor will blow you away! The owners Julie and Brian are such kind people and really go above and beyond for guests. They made us feel like we were right at home. The breakfast is very tasty and served in a warm inviting area. We spent some time on the walking trails and took in all the views. We will be getting married in July at the Inn and the wedding coordinator Cassie has been a joy to work with. We look forward to our special day and many more visits years to come at the Bear Mountain Inn. read more

If I could give this place a negative review I would. The people that work there are horrible and have the worst customer service. Make sure you review what you get charged because they will add extra stuff on. They were kicking us out before our check out time and were so rude. Don't ever go here or host an event. My wife and I had our wedding here. Absolutely great! The owners are very accommodating, the scenery is as good as it gets, and there's something for everyone. We had the entire Inn for the weekend with a great lobster and clam dinner on Friday and a wonderful wedding on Saturday. With unplanned weather on Saturday, Jim and Christie and their family helped us change the cozy function room into a great wedding ceremony spot with only hours to spare. read more

I'd be inclined to give a better review if they would address a bunch of huge problems we encountered in September, 2021: (1) guests cannot adjust the heat or cool in the rooms - the thermostats are locked! Our toom was too cold. This is reason enough that I'll never return, but there were more. (2) the lobby was spacious and well furnished, but was dark and even colder than the rooms. (3) Breakfast was not served until 8:30 (much too late) and we are early risers seeking an early departure. Since this is a big attraction and part of the price, we felt we had been denied. (3) The room had one chair, no table, no desk. That meant one of us had to sit on the bed to watch TV or read. Forget going to the lobby for that - too cold and dark. (4) The proprietor asks to be notified of any questions or problems by phone, but our one call wasn't answered for 45 minutes. Last, the grass on the grounds around theinn was half mud and was clearly neglected. Really a shame. read more

This is a terrific little bed and breakfast, perfect for a short weekend getaway. They owners are super friendly and have great advice for fun things to do in the area. The lake is great for swimming and kayaking, and there are plenty of good hikes nearby. The hot tub is an especially nice touch. The rooms are cozy, relaxing, and very comfortable. what a total overall lovely experience. We stayed in the cottage on the grounds and what a wonderful suprise that was. Fireplace, cozy atmosphere, CLEAN like crazy, kitchenette and fridge. We were hard pressed to leave! The fireplace down towards the beach provided a very fun snowy time for a couple of hours as did the hot tub thereafter. Nice and friendly managers, yummy breakfast, you need to check it out. Unless we are returning that same weekend, as we will beat you to the cottage!! read more

This was my family's first experience at a B&B; we didn't know what to expect. It was like settling in at the Stratford on the Newhart show! It was very homey and comfortable. The innkeeper, Christi, met us and showed us the wide range of activities and facilities at our disposal. She had plenty of information available for the area. My favorite thing was the breakfast.
