We had no warning that this room was on the 3rd floor so did not enjoy carrying suitcases up three flights of stairs. Room from rugs to pillows to walls were dated. What was most disconcerting was that the top floor was not air conditioned. It did not appear that our small in room air conditioner had not been turned on in some time since the room registered 88 degrees when we entered. We complained and were told that it just needed a short amount of time for the air conditioner to work. We checked out after 2 days since this was not the case. We could not use the room during the day, and sleep was uncomfortable due to the nighttime heat. The breakfast was excellent and the location was convenient, but the entire facility needs updating. As frequent travelers, we have rarely had such a negative experience.

Everything provided at Old Field House was sufficient. This is a family run hotel and it truly gives off a charming vibe. Things were a little outdated but that add to the charm. Our 2 queen bed room was decent in size, private bathroom, tube television, DVD player and arm chair. We were supplied with plenty of bath towels. Breakfast provided was quick and tasty, now served due to covid. Everything was sanitized frequently. Nana, the most amazing layed back hotel mascot pooch helped sooth my sorrow of missing my own pupper back home. Could the stay have been a little less expensive? Definitely. There is a daytime bar at the bike shop. Drinks were cold and the service was friendly. All of the staff that we encountered were very friendly and professional. The rooms were quaint and comfortable with AC that was much needed on some of the hot summer days. We enjoyed some of the most beautiful landscapes and sunsets Vermont had to offer! Leon and Nellie have been friends of my family for years (even longer than the decades we've been…read morecoming to New Hampshire), but somehow we'd never stayed at the Spruce Moose. Even without the familial connection, I'd be absolutely in love with this place. Family and friends gathered this past weekend for a memorial hike in honor of my dad, who passed in 2007. Leon and Nellie went out of their way to accommodate us, down to even offering additional rooms when some extra guests appeared and getting up extra early to make us to-go egg sandwiches we could take long on our hike up Mt. Washington. Both our group and the other guests at the Inn were treated like treasured friends in their home and it felt like a big old family reunion for us all. The Spruce Moose is the perfect location---a short walk to the adorable North Conway village, and a quick drive to countless hiking options. The decor makes you feel like you're visiting friends in a luxurious mountain home. Zeb and Avery, the two trusty labs, greet you at the door and will cuddle you on the couch for hours if you let them. The beds are comfy, and the rooms contain no tvs so you can truly enjoy the nature around you (though there IS wi-fi if you need your technology fix). Breakfast in the morning is delicious and filling. Tea and coffee are available at any time. It was an amazing weekend, in no small part to Leon and Nellie. I will be back to the Spruce Moose the next time I come to North Conway!
