I can't say enough great things about Joel and his team at Bear Republic Landscape. Joel came by for a consultation while the house was still under construction. The small backyard was just mud and we didn't even have our fence up yet. We weren't even sure what we wanted to do with our backyard because we couldn't even picture what our yard was going to look like with the fence up. Joel gave his input and it was as if he could already picture what it would look like as he went over what he recommended. He explained the different options that he recommended and the different types of materials and their quality levels. He showed us a couple of his other projects in the area and one of his satisfied customers came outside and told us about how happy she was with their work and that she recommended them. He gave us a very detailed itemized estimate and we set up an appointment for them to begin work a few weeks later. Throughout the whole process, Joel and his team were very professional and courteous. Although there was a lot of digging, and different equipment and materials involved, they kept the job site clean and did their best to minimize disruptions and noise while they were there. I was expecting our yard to look like a war zone while the work was being done but they always cleaned up after each day of work. It didn't take long for the project to be completed. I expected something really nice for our small space but Bear Republic exceeded our expectations. The yard came out absolutely beautiful. Everyday when I look outside I'm amazed with how they transformed our muddy backyard area to a very relaxing, picturesque outdoor space. Joel is a true artist and very meticulous in his work. Joe installed a drip system, new lawn, and a beautifully stamped concrete walkway/storage area for our waste bins. He did an amazing job, explaining everything as he went, completing everything in only just a few days. Wanted to leave an update on my review. Since having our front yard done by Bear Republic a few years ago we have called them back to do the backyard. We could not be more happy with the outcome! We went into our first meeting with Joel and had a pretty good idea of what we wanted. However, he had some great ideas for us plus had samples of different finishes we could use. We have an existing 20ish year old pool that we worked around as well. Which we will be calling Joel back to give a little face lift to when we are ready! Joel and his crew are still amazing at what they do and as mentioned before, very tidy! I mean above and beyond tidy! For example, they would blow, sweep and hose at the end of every day. Two, the workers are respectful and punctual and did a great job. They took away a bunch of Overgrown plants and replaced them with organized and arranged plants, stones, and sod. The job was done quickly and Joel didn't leave until we were 100% happy. When we had a follow up question, he came out promptly the next day and made sure that everything was still working correctly. Joel and his team did a fantastic job building a block wall on the West side of the driveway here at my house in Covina. It probably wasn't a huge job but it was important to me to get a bit of separation from my neighbors. The wall goes from my backyard gate to the sidewalk out front (about 40 feet). Beware. I'm writing this review while the work is completed . I used yelp quite often and reviewed many pictures of their supposedly jobs completed as examples. I liked what I saw and reached out for some quotes. As I am writing this review most of his reviews are no longer recommended and I notice a pattern. Take a look for yourself. I used yelp for a qoute estimate in mid Month and Joel asked to come out to see the site. We made an appointment for a 3 days later as it was Saturday. At his suggested time in the morning and he showed up late. I will note though, the other landscapers I received quotes from all showed up late too. After discussing about doing a patio concrete he gave me a price and I accepted without negotiation as I wanted him to do everything professionally and handed him a deposit check. He was booked for the next month. For the next few weeks no contact or communication 2 weeks before the start I still haven't heard anything so I reach out to him and he gives me two possible dates, a few days from each other. One week before and no confirmation or any updates. I reach out to him again and the later date is what I'm now given. Joel and his two guys show up early that date at 7:15am. His two guys are very nice and hard workers. Communication to the employees was also not there. They began doing a mow curb that was too high above the grass and not the 6"x6" we originally discussed. I contacted Joel and notified him they were not completing what we agreed on. They made it slightly lower still way higher than the grass height and 5x4. Joel was not on the job site for most of the work. The next day the cement truck shows up I did not see any wire mesh or rebar done. I asked Joel is it not required? He said "no not needed. So I go and google it and every patio slab pour I read about and video seen shows and explains a wire mesh or rebar is necessary so it holds the slab together and assists in preventing cracks when there are earth movements. He comes by and asks me if I want to have another crack line put in I tell him yes because everything I read says wire mesh or rebar is done for patio slabs and he tells me he didn't charge me for it! That was never discussed or agreed on. WTF. He completes a 4 inch pour of concrete from the cement truck on bare dirt with no wire mesh or rebar. Beware they have now changed their business name. read more

We couldn't be happier! They were respectful of our property, daily cleaned up after themselves, showed up to work every day on time, and worked faster than our agreed upon timeline. Bear Paw Landscape did an excellent job in fixing my Mother in Law's large backyard in Chino. Joel and his assistant Francisco arrived early every morning, and worked hard and efficiently to complete a well designed project in only 8 days. They were able to reuse over two thirds of demolition rubble at the site through creative ways, which included: building raised vegetable beds, creating borders for water retention around avocado trees, building a secondary retention wall/hill topped with nice plants, and using demolition material to stabilize soil slopes. They also planted low maintenance succulents and fruit trees in beautiful arrangements, as well as drought tolerant bushes to provide both erosion control and privacy. In addition, they improved storm water management by building a nice rainwater retention garden with river rocks and by regrading slopped areas. Not only did they work efficiently, but they also communicated continuously with me and were always open to suggestions. Finally, the project's total cost was quite reasonable and less expensive than other bids we received. We were very pleased with Bear Paw Landscape and we would recommend this company without any hesitation. read more

We presented him with our ideas and our design to do the yard in various colors and types of rocks. He patiently listened and gave us some recommendations on our design. We decided to go with him. He started the job on the date he promised. Each day he and his assistant arrived on time. He was professional and polite at all times. As the work progressed, we could see it was going to be too many rocks for such a large area and wanted to make changes to add artificial turf to the design. Joel couldn't have been more gracious in accommodating us with this change and ensuring us that we will be happy with the end result. They did a beautiful job. Adding the artificial turf really enhanced the look of the yard along with a few plants. It is a one-of-a-kind design. We couldn't be happier. After doing a 5 month interior update to the bare studs, we did not want to see another contractor. Everything that could go wrong did. However, had to demo the backyard's old fence and plants and redo with new fencing, plants, drainage, sprinklers, concrete, firepit, patio cover and patio, update barbecue, lighting and of course plants. Received a few bids from landscape folks as well as Bear Republic. We could not have been happier choosing Bear Republic. Best landscape contractor or contractor that we ever worked with. Joel was on time for all appointments, did what he said he was going to do and did it well, VERY WELL. It started with a color landscape design which he modified for us after reviewing. Next he told us when he could start and when he would be finished. He did both as he said. (as mentioned above ,does what he says.) Joel also treats your property as if it was his own and performs as if he was doing it to his own backyard. Very few contractors even consider that approach. Cleaned up after every day and advised daily what was going to happen next. If he didn't like it, he would fix it. If you didn't like it, he would fix it. There is not enough to say about how he treated us and our property. End result is marvelous and we will now begin to enjoy our backyard again.
