I would like to start this review off by explaining that I researched what i needed and reputable companies extensively prior to starting my backyard project.  I also had 4 bids and input  from 4 companies to compare, and input from an arborist.  The arborist is the one that recommended California Custom Landscaping to me because he said they do the best he's ever seen, and has not seen any issues with the work in later years.  Henry from California Landscaping was, by far, the most knowledgeable and the most professional of the contractors I met with.  He had ideas and suggestions that demonstrated he had extensive experience, and helped me find solutions to some difficult issues that would ensure my project is both long lasting and affordable.  His pricing was not the highest bid, but was on the higher end, but after completion of the project, I understood why.  He has a good size crew, they were all very knowledgeable, they were very thorough and did a very professional job, and brought in a lot of specialized equipment (I mention the equipment because I have had other jobs and seen jobs that do not have that).  I my project included demolition of old concrete, electrical work, a concrete brick retaining wall, concrete pour wall, concrete pour, installation of my plants, and installation of a drip system. I genuinely had no concerns or complaints with the entire process, so I wanted to list off the things I noticed that I appreciated: - Every crew member was professional, polite, and many went the extra mile to make me happy.  They always offered to do little extra things to help me out, even though they weren't part of their duties.  - The foreman made sure to ask questions along the way to ensure I was happy with choices being made.  This was very important to me because I had a project in the past where decisions were made without checking with me, and work had to be redone.  - The workers cleaned up after themselves thoroughly after each day, and left materials and tools organized nicely.  They always swept, cleaned, or blowed the area, so there were no messes.  - The workers seem to be treated really well and their time was respected.  I appreciated that I saw them taking regular scheduled lunch breaks and leaving at the same time each day.  When Henry wanted to schedule work on the weekend, he emphasized that he needed to respect their weekends, ask permission, and give them plenty of notice. -Everything was very timely.  They came when they said they would, arrived on time, let me know what days they would not be working, and completed the project pretty quickly.   -Henry would regularly check in, make sure I was happy, and answer my questions.  He also communicates/responds to emails calls and texts in a timely manner. There were a few great things included in the project that i didn't even realize. - The work they did was beautiful! I couldn't be happier with how my back yard turned out.  I've had to clean up neighbors debris from their trees and hose it down, and it cleans up easily and drains well. I've used Henry for the past 10 years for a complete backyard renovation, patio pavers, artificial turf, landscaping, driveway expansion, and planters and I've never been disappointed and have always recommended him to friends and family. I recently had him to put in fire resistant sprinklers due to concern about the recent wildfires and wanting some extra protection for the hillside behind my house. January 2026 we did business with CA Custom Landscape. It just so happened that Henry was the person that did some original landscaping at our home before we owned it back in 2005 or so. We did 2200 sq ft of concrete, our complete front yard in synthetic turf, Pavers in half of our driveway, and Sod in our backyard. Mike and his crew were here for all the hardscape and did an excellent job. Foreman on the job every day to make sure all was being handled correctly. When we got to the landscaping portion of the job Henry had a lead here daily but he showed up pretty much everyday himself to ensure everything was being done correctly. We had a few change orders and add ons and Henry handled them right away and was fair on cost for these. I am not even exaggerating when I say this was the best contractor we have ever done business with. Easy to work with, hands on, Clean, and on job from start to finish. In 2019, I completed a homeowner swimming pool. I subbed all trades to complete this project. As I reached the phase of hardscape, I used a family friend who owned a pool company. In July of 2019 we started searching for a contractor to remodel our backyard. Must have interviewed 8 different contractors or designers and spoke with another 4or 5 on the phone. Henry from California Custom Landscaping was one of them, and while we liked his ideas and design the quote was more than what we wanted to pay, so we kept looking. After a weekend of interviews with people who claimed they could do the job for less, we decided to call Henry back to see if we could make some modifications to the design that would be better suited to our budget. They leveled the backyard, installed large pavers (24x24), and installed the artificial turf. The turf Henry recommended looks so real! She just read my negative review and stated . . . sent Estimate on 6/12/22 to my email. I was initially told, next day. Visit was on 6/7/22. Checked my computer and found it was under her name and not California Custom, so I passed by it. I tried to open, wouldn't open . . . keep showing mailbox is empty.
