Whenever I emailed asking for a quote, Bobby always got back to me very quickly. They're often able to fit an insanely impressive amount of items and furniture into their moving vehicle. They are lightning fast to come in, assess, shrink wrap large items, and get them out the door. Everything from couches to vinyl records and dishes have stayed in one piece. After being pretty badly ripped off by another moving company when I first arrived in New York, it's a relief to know that Bobby and his team are honest, work hard as hell, and charge fair rates. He will call you after scheduling your rental to complain that there are not enough drivers to make deliveries and pickups on time (despite the fact that he's the owner), trying to guilt you to reschedule. Simple requests like an arrival window for the driver are met with either vague nonsense about traffic on the BQE or rude and provocative responses ("what, so now you expect me to provide you an exact hour and minute?? That's impossible"). I've never experienced such weird and hostile energy from a business. There are plenty of bin rental services from more professional companies, and I would recommend literally any of them over having to interact with this company.

Moving Zone either lost or stole (I have no way of knowing which, but I do know that boxes don't…read moredisappear) over $2,800 of my property during our cross-country move. I noticed that boxes were missing within 2 hours of their truck leaving my home for the drop-off. Instead of turning the truck around to come back to my house to finish the drop-off, I was told they would come back on their next trip. They never did. After months of back and forth, excuses, and delays, they offered me less than $30 as compensation for the items they lost or stole. So, in short, if you use Moving Zone, you are effectively giving them an option to either deliver your property or to not deliver it and give you 6 cents per pound of property.

Even though one of them reeked of booze, the crew of four managed to drive from Westchester to the Bronx to Long Island without a scratch. Most of them don't speak fluent English unfortunately, but they do speak the language of moving, assembling, and Russian. They handle their jobs with accurate precision and knowledge, just as long as they have a bottle in the truck (I even saw one of them swigging one during their ten minute break). They are a very sociable bunch - everybody kept a good attitude despite the heat and the weight they had to lug up three floors into a narrow apartment. They assembled my bedroom with haste and upon my command. It took them about eight hours to complete a two stop journey involving two peoples' furniture across three counties. We tipped them a good amount of cash (40$ each and a bottle of Jack) and they left happily. They don't get paid much by their company, but they sure as hell know how to do a moving job with speed and efficiency.

The crates stack up very neatly, unlike cardboard boxes, and are much easier for the movers to move. The drop-off and pick-up were punctual and flexible. We originally booked for two weeks - took one week to pack, two days to unpack. BoxUp was able to pick up the crates early and get them out of our way. Reuben did the drop-off and pick-up and was very professional. BoxUp also conveniently offers other packing material to be delivered with the crates. The green wrap was perfect for small pottery pieces, and the bubblewrap was great to protect art. Looking forward to booking BoxUp again when we have to move!

I've used Cool Hand three times and my sister once since 2019: NYC to central Jersey, central Jersey to Jersey City, Jersey City to Jersey City, and north Jersey to Boston.
