Not only is Fun Foundations a safe and loving environment, the education Danielle and her teachers provide is thorough and of the highest quality. The multi-age program combined with the high quality educational program have provided many opportunities for my 2.5 year-old to be exposed to concepts and social situations she wouldn't normally get to experience at her age and her development over the last year that she's been at Fun Foundations has been phenomenal. In addition to providing a strong educational and social foundation for our kids, Fun Foundations is extremely family-oriented. Danielle often provides opportunities for the families with kids attending the school to get to know each other. Her focus on communication and keeping the parents involved in their kids day-to-day activities at school is unlike any experience I've had in other child care and preschool settings. I have had my 2 kids in a few other preschool/daycare programs over the last 5.5 years and have never been as happy as we are at Fun Foundations. This school is unlike any other in the best ways possible and I highly recommend it.

We enrolled at Academy of Play with high hopes and thoughtful intention. After leaving a program…read morethat did not align with our values we sought respect based Montessori informed care that would support our daughter's emotional growth and autonomy. Despite promises from Evelyn, our experience did not deliver what was communicated or expected. Our daughter had seven different teachers in six months with no immediate notice. Teachers appeared without warning and we would arrive for pickup to find an unfamiliar face while our daughter said we have a new teacher. These frequent transitions made it difficult to build secure relationships or consistency. Although the school markets itself as Montessori based, the teachers lacked Montessori training and often even basic familiarity. We were told staff were in Montessori training six months into their hire (which should have been done BEFORE they were even hired), yet their actions contradicted this, which led us to lose trust that training was occurring. These inconsistencies conflicted with our parenting framework and created confusion for our daughter. We often had to reteach core values at home. Our child now threatens both us and her dolls during play in addition to behaviors that go against everything we have worked for years to instill. Practices included forced apologies, bribes with toys or treats, threats of privilege loss, and gender shaming language i.e. "boys dont like pink, thats for girls." Children were also told not to cry, which was meant to be comforting, but is developmentally inappropriate. These practices do not align with Montessori or respectful caregiving. We were told a curriculum would be shared, but was never provided. The only time we had insight into our child's learning was when we scheduled meetings with Evelyn ourselves, where information specific to our child was also limited. A teacher said the children only work when Evelyn is present which made her input unreliable since she was not there often. Evelyn's expertise was a key reason we chose this program and when she was present it made a difference. However she was rarely in the classroom often just one or two days per week for a couple hours. Each day our daughter would ask if Miss Evelyn would be there and staff replied she is working in her office. Eventually our daughter stopped asking and said she is probably in her office working when she saw Evelyn's car. We later learned she was opening a coffee shop. This led us to believe the children were no longer her priority. During pickup we observed teachers on their phones or disengaged which was troubling for a program that emphasizes connection and observation. We were also told the school would be screen free, but a teacher showed a video. While the content was not inappropriate the use of screens contradicted stated values and eroded trust. Throughout the year we raised concerns calmly and directly with Evelyn. She was reassuring that change is coming but there was no follow through. When we asked why a curriculum still had not been provided since our child started attending, we were told the children were focusing on outdoor time due to summer and that teachers were focusing on Montessori training, though threats and bribes continued beyond that point. Evelyn also sent a parent survey but no follow up or next steps were communicated. Despite repeated efforts to engage nothing changed in a meaningful way, which broke our trust. Strengths included fresh organic meals, consistent outdoor play a meaningful friendship and Evelyn's knowledge when she was present, though her time with the children was limited. We gave this program every opportunity to meet the expectations it set. Our decision to leave was not based on one issue, but the cumulative impact of repeated inconsistencies and misalignments. In the end, we had to prioritize our daughter's emotional well-being and learning environment. Families deserve clarity, consistency, and integrity. Children thrive in environments where those values are not only stated, but lived daily.

Ms. Evelyn (the owner/founder) and her staff have taught our child so many skills, both academic (colors, shapes, letters, numbers, etc.) and practical (jacket on and off, shoes on and off, handwashing, toileting, etc.), and our toddler is meaningfully more capable and independent as a result. We love Academy of Play so much that we jumped on the chance to send our younger children (twins, age 1) there as well. Both twins are happy at Academy of Play, but one of our twins, who needs support for developmental delays, is thriving and has made huge leaps forward since attending. Ms. Evelyn and her teachers obviously care for the children and there's very little staff turnover. I wholeheartedly recommend this gem of a daycare!

Our eldest child graduated last year and…read moreour middle child is in the midst of learning about reptiles, the ocean and receiving letters from around the world. This school is home to the most amazing bunch of well educated, hard working, caring, helpful, accommodating, wonderful women I know. They embrace early education in a fun-filled, dynamic way and I appreciate their wholehearted approach to caring for all of our children who are fortunate to attend this school. Baby #3 will definitely be enrolling when the time comes to take the leap into preschool. Thank you Katrina, Prudence and all of the teaching staff for everything you do, your hard work do not go unnoticed. On a side note: I can't believe that Yelp is hiding 17 positive reviews of the Shyne School from parents whose children loved attending and only shows 3 reviews, one very negative one from 2008. I find this shameful and expect that my update will probably be relegated to the same area too. I sure wish Yelp would fix their 'random' review as it really doesn't feel very random when so many reviews are regarded this way.

I'm glad I didn't let the 2010 review here keep me from checking out The Shyne School. It sounded…read moretoo much like a person having a bad day and taking it out on the place so I looked into it anyway.... It has worked out great for us! First of all, I wanted a preschool that did not feel like an impersonal, 'institutional' daycare and instead felt like a 'home away from home' for my 3-year-old. I also wanted a school that understood that parents need LOTS of flexibility in their schedule. And I was seeking a school whose director was warm, communicative, hands-on, and professional. Lastly, I wanted seasoned early-childhood teachers who were not just focused on imparting kindergarten readiness skills but also had the personal warmth that would encourage a love of learning in my child. I think The Shyne School meets all my criteria wonderfully. The school is made up of a group of buildings that look like cheery yellow houses and a red barn, and there is a spacious 'magic forest' in the back that provides a wonderful, natural place for the children to play in. They have remodeled very recently and everything looks new, clean, bright, and spacious. They have a wonderful service which is that the children who stay through lunch get freshly prepared hot lunches everyday made by the lovely and gentle Ms. Prudence in the school's kitchen. The 3-year-olds are always making fun things like fresh-churned butter or home-baked apple pie with Ms. Katy and Ms. Darci. They are very disciplined about handwashing and Katrina, the school director, runs the whole school like a well-oiled machine. She is warm, friendly, always available, highly organized and totally on top of health and child safety issues. Health alerts go out quickly, with full information for concerned parents and even better, the parents are very conscientious about monitoring their children's health and informing the school of anything that would be of concern to others. Last but not least, I am thrilled that ALL the teachers in this school are great. My child has only been exposed to warm, kind, and attentive teachers and assistants - regardless of which schedule he is on. There is a great camaraderie among the school's personnel and they have a wonderful rapport with the parents. Unlike other places I checked out, they never minded my staying longer at drop-offs to help my child get adjusted. This took several months and I was never made to feel uncomfortable about it! As a result, he is completely adjusted and happy in his new environment and comes home to tell us everyday about his new learnings and his friends at school.
