Beau Thai has consistently impressed me with their service and safety and has become a part of my routine. They are socially distanced and have many healthy options that make it easy place to constantly crave and feel good after eating. Over the weeks, these are my staples (all mentioned is ordered vegan): Pad King - A nice light sauce and great for mushroom lovers! Crispy Tofu - This is either good or great depending on the preparation, sometimes layer of sesame seeds is so thick that it fails to fry or cook fully. Still yummy and unique, the tamarind sauce is great. Mango Sticky Rice - *insider hint* if you call, they have dessert and some dishes not available through online ordering (and it's cheaper for you and the restaurant gets more of the profit). Everything was delicious! My friend and I both had the strawberry honeysuckle frose, which was perfect so the hot day. It was pretty frozen so it was a little hard to drink, but once you stirred it it was easier (though you'd have to stir it every so often). We also split the dumplings, pad see ew, and pad thai. The dumplings are shumai and less like dumplings, but still good. No issues whatsoever! read more

The panang curry was 98% tofu, one sad red pepper strip and one sad kaffir lime leaf. At 7 pm they were out of garden rolls and pumpkin empanadas. When I was asked straight up if I wanted to leave a tip on the credit card machine, I said 15% despite everything. She put in 20. I changed it back to 15 and left. read more

The bad: - got food poisoning from the pork noodle bowl (nausea and vomiting); - they don't use fish sauce, which is needed to balance the sweetness of their dishes. Their spice tray had Bragg's liquid aminos instead of fish sauce. - their spice tray had gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) instead of ground Thai chilis. I don't know why it took me so long to try this place. I've heard nothing but good about it for years, but I guess we all get stuck in our "go to" locations. The pandemic has really given me a chance to expand my check-list of must tries thanks to the days/weeks/decades/millennia staying home. Enter Beau Thai; which, I'll say, right off the bat, has some of the best delivery packaging I've seen yet. A little cardboard box lined with tin-foil meant my noodles and veggies arrived hot and succulent. In judging Thai, I go with the drunken noodles and sautéed eggplant....my favorites. The flavors on the noodles were ON POINT with brown sauce, basil and the heat of chilies (visibly through out)!! The eggplant also brought those basil and brown sauce notes making them umami and easily devastated with a side of rice. At first appearance, the portions seems smaller, but after reaching the bottom, I had to lay on my side to help digestion! I went here today and was very disappointed with the customer service I received from one of the staff that's at the register. I received my order and there was a problem with it so I called and told them, I asked them if I could have oysters sauce on the side and that would solve it for me. They told me no to the sauce and said to bring back the food, I told them I was hungry and just needed the sauce, I didn't want to be wasteful. The employee who was on the phone was a 20 something old 5"7ft Latino guy who started to use really old slang words to me. I told him that I was already on my way back to the restaurant and just needed the sauce, I had already left my food at the house and had started walking back to the restaurant since the employee originally said yes to the sauce, he just make sure so he asked his team. So I explained to him that I had already left my house and the food and was on my way, he said " THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH US, YOU WALKING BACK AND FOURTH IS YOUR OWN PROBLEM" I was confused as to why he would think it's okay to talk to people like this, he is a terrible representation of the restaurant that I go to twice- four times a month. Came in on a rainy day and they were very nice about getting us some napkins to dry up with. However, the real reason I'm upgrading my previous review to five stars is the sheer righteousness of their drunken noodles. I've had a few other good dishes there (an appetizer of fried tofu encrusted in sesame seeds hit the spot), but their perfectly sweet and spicy rice noodles with tofu is definitely the best. Whole basil leaves stir-fried in and an ample kick as well. Again, I'll be back. Note: their kitchen finishes for the day before their closing time. Not that I begrudge anyone for wanting to get off of work, but just a word of warning that trying to get takeout twenty minutes before closing won't work. read more

Wow! I've been to many subpar Thai places in dc! I can't believe after all these years I'd never tried beau Thai. Hands down one of the best Thai places in the city. The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. I've been here a few times and I've always enjoyed the experience. The offer dishes that most Thai restaurants don't offer which is a nice touch if you want to deviate from the typical pad Thai or drunken noodle. Overall: I would recommend this restaurant for a tasty, no frills, fair-priced meal. Tastiness: We tried the duck roll, the pad Thai with pork and mixed vegetables, and the drunken noodles with tofu and mixed vegetables. Every single one of these tasted delicious - classic dishes with a classic taste. The drunken noodles had a nice spicy kick to them, so I would recommend inserting the desired level of spiciness in the comments, if you're not into spicy food. I paid extra for vegetables ($2.00) and they consisted of cauliflower and broccoli (I was hoping for Asian veggies), which was a nice boost of fiber, but did not contribute to the taste or authenticity of the meal. Cleanliness/COVID prevention: The delivery was done while social distancing (I included the request in the notes). I cannot speak of the restaurant and how they run things indoors/outdoors. Price: The Duck Roll (appetizer) was $8.00, while the noodle entrees ended up costing $15 each (including the extra for vegetable). I think these are reasonable prices for NW DC. Delivery turn-around: The order was placed via Caviar/DoorDash and delivered within 30 mins (a little less) of submitting the order online. I was surprised with how quick it was and pleasantly surprised it beat the estimated time listed online. Packaging: The boxes in which we received the delivery were eco-conscious and recyclable, as was the bag in which they were delivered. I was so relived to not have to look at another plastic box. I really liked the food here. We started with some Tom Kha Ga soup and they were very flavorful. The coconut milk was sweet with just the right amount of spiciness. The chicken pieces were tender and not overcooked as is often the case when it is served with soup. I could not tel lif they used real lemon grass here but I liked it nevertheless. We also ordered some chicken satay and these were also very good. The chicken had a nice, flavorful crust and the peanut sauce perfectly complemented the chicken. The chicken was nicely grilled and also very tender. This was a keeper. Of course, no visit to a Thai place is complete with Pad Thai. We ordered a double-order of Pad Thai and we totally polished this off. I've always thought this was a complex dish and the portion of the ingredients need to be just right in order to pull off the right flavor. I felt that Beau Thai did this. The noodles were sweet. The sprouts were fresh and crunchy. The peanuts were abundant and contributed to the texture. Overall, they did a good job with the Pad Thai. When I tell you I am obsessed with the Mango Sticky Rice I MEAN IT The panda leaves it give such a nice touch to the taste of the rice cover with the coconut Chef kiss!!! I first found Beau Thai five years ago when I lived in Shaw and I loved the charm of the row house restaurant and the quality of the food. I moved away from DC and when I came back thus year I looked it up and was elated to find out that there is now a amount Pleasant location. Overall, Beau Thai is one of the best Thai restaurants in DC in that the food is excellent, you can always get a table, and it is reasonably priced. The Mount Pleasant location does not have the same charm as the original location as the interior skews towards the standard modern DC aesthetic that I find to generally be soulless. However, the high quality of the food and constant flow of people through the restaurant make up for the less inviting atmosphere. read more

I used to live by Ruan and Nava Thai in Wheaton so forgive me for being so harsh, but beau Thai is flavorless in comparison. I've eaten at beau Thai about 4 times since moving to mtp a year and a half ago and other than a full bar that doesn't suck, never had a dish that impressed me. I had a watery chicken curry with thin slivers of white meat chicken and nothing else. Pad Thai so bland I can't say much about it. Beau Thai chicken tastes like a Thai twist on general tso's but worse because they chew thinly sliced white meat until it's leathery and so much sugar that it was practically candied. The wow chicken they claim to be better than Peruvian chicken (haha no) which is just okay gai yang. I'm kind of glad they're not that good so I choose to make Thai food at home for a fraction of the price with ingredients from best world next door (they always carry Thai basil and thai chili's and as long as you have curry paste and fish sauce you can make about half of any Thai menu in dc.) I know the clientele is particularly "kosher" but dang, if you can afford a storefront in dc and a long time standing, you can afford to make it more authentic and add more flavor that isn't sugar. Once again there was a total meltdown for pickup (not the staff's fault but certainly the management's), with over a dozen people waiting for orders and no working system in place. I'm becoming a regular here. Every time I come, this restaurant surprises me with its innovative yet familiar and well-executed dishes, friendly service, and wide range of fresh and tasty options. And the bar here is top notch. My favorites are the green curry which is perfectly but not overwhelmingly spicy, wish plenty of veggies and flavor, without being heavy; the crab fried rice which is flavorful and full of crab; and the shrimp and grit inspired brunch dish of shrimp congee with a poached egg and shrimp meatballs and ginger. The only thing I've had that didn't wow me is the hot and spicy noodle soup which I found a touch too oily. Today, the restaurant won me over with the appetizer of coconut milk and chive custard in little crispy shells. It was my favorite snack when I backpacked through Thailand and I haven't even able to find it since I tried it at a floating market. The beau Thai version was fabulous. As for drinks, the standout for me is the cucumber Hendricks and kafir lime martini: refreshing, well balanced, yet unique. I recently moved into the neighborhood and had a big craving for Thai Food. After researching Thai restaurants in the area, Beau Thai popped up as one of the top rated Thai food restaurants in the district. After trying them for the first time yesterday, I can understand why they deserve that recognition. Super flavorful cuisine with the right amount of spice. I had both the papaya salad and chicken satay skewers. Both unfortunately are not pictured because I ate them rather quickly . The Papaya salad was refreshing, sweet, but also had some kick to it too. The chicken satay skewers were amazing as well. The skewers came with a side of Thai peanut sauce, which honestly, I could practically drink for how tasty it was. I wish I had an additional side of it. From my experience, Thai food can be hit or miss. However, Beau Thai did nothing but blow me away by using the freshest ingredients and keeping things simple. I also really liked the eggplants dish, so definitely try it if you love eggplants! However, I do want to point out that I prefer Beau Thai in Shaw primarily because the dishes always taste better there. For some reason, Beau Thai in Mount Pleasant has a lack of consistency in terms of cooking and the quality of ingredients. I may sound a bit picky and their food is great most of the times, but sometimes it's disappointing to notice such differences. Maybe they have different chefs everyday? Who knows. My personal favorites are the curry dishes, which you can get as rice or noodle bowls. They also have a great range of tasty appetizers, if you're just looking for a snack or something to share. Thai iced tea is on the menu, and as expected, is delicious. The staff is also incredibly friendly, knows all the neighborhood regulars, and provides great service. My only real reason for a 4 star instead of 5 is the ambiance. Beau Thai feels sort of like eating in a giant cafeteria. The space is designed to maximize seating, but if they'd lose just a little seating maybe they could make it a little cozier. I usually choose a bar seat when I go there. read more

I've been here several times over the past few years and have only now gotten around to writing a review. Beau Thai can get pretty packed on a Friday night, but my last visit was early on a Saturday evening and there was plenty of space. Everything I've had is delicious, and the spice level is always perfect. I recommend the red curry for that traditional comforting taste, but the yellow curry is also a great option. This season definitely try the pumpkin curry because there are plentiful chunks of soft pumpkin, along with the protein of your choice. A few days into my first East Coast trip and I was already having serious Asian food withdrawals. At the recommendation of a DC friend, we Lyft-ed to Beau Thai one evening for dinner. The restaurant was packed, but we managed to find a table for four relatively quickly. It was snowing in DC (February!), so I was truly thankful they had a relatively large waiting area where we could stand inside. Our server wasn't the friendliest person, but given how busy it was that night I could overlook the rather curt interactions she had with us. She dropped off some menus, came back a few minutes later to take our order, placed our drinks and food down on the table about ten minutes later, and then rushed back off... not to be seen again until she dropped off the check. Thankfully, though, there were other people on staff checking at tables to make sure everyone had what they needed in terms of drink refills, sauces, utensils, etc. This place has pretty standard Thai fare, and I thought the shrimp pad thai ($14) I ordered was decent. My friends and I ordered the garden roll ($6), vegetable empanadas ($6), and chicken empanadas ($6) for the table. If I had to do it over again, I'd skip ordering the garden rolls; they were forgettable. The chicken empanadas, on the other hand, were warm and satisfying. At the end of the meal we ordered the mango sticky rice dessert ($5), but they didn't have mango. Still wanting to end the evening with something sweet, we opted for the sticky rice which was pretty good on it's own, smothered in coconut cream. read more

Someone hasn't been paying attention to Thai food in DC... guilty! Now that I am reminded of this, umm, hello Beau Thai - Mount Pleasant, you are my new best Thai restaurant friend. I don't find too many reasons to do more than pass through Mt. Pleasant en route to another venue or engagement, but Beau Thai has changed that. The restaurant is clean and modern with tasteful decor in an upscale casual setting. You could be comfortably dining with friends, coworkers or family on any given day. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. This place has traditional dishes that you expect in Thai restaurants here in the US. For weekend brunch, the menu branches out to present some more traditional dishes that the chef(s) expect in their home turf restaurants in Thailand. As others have noted, the coconut milk tartlet bites are phenomenal! A must! Although I've had disagreements with friends, I feel the amount of food they serve is abundant! Plenty to fill you up! Aside from that, I appreciate the V and GF markings- very helpful for those needing to know information about items being vegan and/or gluten free. Menu items like spring rolls, salads, curries and noodles are delicious and filling. I am a sucker for broad rice noodles! What I really adore most is the green tea scented sticky rice with mango! It is so good, with just the right amount of coconut milk. It is quite dense- don't be fooled by a small size. It's a lot! Yup, I will order from them again soon. Beau Thai is the restaurant I've been to most in DC, perhaps 30 times or more. I make a point to bring guests here; certainly not because it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but because it is fairly reliable (though not consistent) and the prices are good. If stars were incremental I'd give it a 3.5, hence 3 stars. Good parts: -The appetizers are good. -Happy hour is good and great prices for DC, though they shaved an hour off recently. Often once you're seated they won't come to your table to take your order until one or two minutes before the cut-off. -The food tends to be OK and I've had some really nice dishes, including seasonal specials. -It's a beautiful restaurant and the pictures along the back wall are phenomenal. Nice location. Bad: -They treat you kind of strange. There is a seating host who is a pain in the rear; you can walk in and he looks at you like you're from Mars and says "can I help you?" Something up with him. Often the people who end up seating you want to seat you at a tiny table in the middle of the dining room when there is a whole row of booths available. They'll usually seat you there, but it's clearly bothers them. -At peak service the place is incredibly loud. -The service is (and this sounds bizarre) perhaps too attentive. They come to refill your glass when it's half full, and keep coming back. Something about that makes me uneasy. My dining companions have always noted they come too frequently. -Their hours are bizarre and they close pretty early. -They will rush you out of there if it's even ten minutes to closing, clearing stuff off the table before you've even finished. -Post-Covid they don't have a real spice rack and just bring one tiny plastic container of chili flakes. -A lot of the dishes are cloyingly sweet -- the curries and noodle soups most of all. They don't obtain a nice balanced flavor. They won't make anything spicy either and (see points above) the spice rack doesn't cut it. -More than anything, it's inconsistent. I've ordered many of the dishes many times and each time it comes out a little different, sometimes incredible, sometimes mediocre. That alone makes me hesitant to return. read more
