For reference, I have very thick dark blonde long hair and I get blonde balayage. The result is very natural and polished. He also works with his clients to make sure that they are maintaining the healthiest, shiniest hair possible. I highly recommend entrusting him with your hair, especially for blonde color, and I also recommend considering his suggestions. He is both a professional and and an artist, and takes his work very seriously. So far it has benefitted me! He posts many before/after photos on his Instagram: dericleparis. A friend of mine recommended this salon to me because she recently went for a wash and cut and knew I was in search for one. She had her hair done by Thais which I did as well. Since I got a referral here I got 20% on my first visit. A wash and cut was about $62 before the discount. My experience here was nice. I made my appointment by popping in one day while I was strolling along Newbury Street and got an appointment slot within 3 days. On the day of my appointment I was offered refreshments while I waited on my stylist and given a robe to put when it was time. I'm not a very high maintenance person, I just need a simple wash and cut without blowdry but since they said it comes with the service regardless I had it done. It had been almost a year since I got my last haircut which I normally get when I'm back in my home town and do every 6 months but I forgot to book an appointment while I was there. I always dread going for a haircut with someone new thinking if I ask for x, they do y but Thais did exactly what I wanted - I showed her exactly how much I wanted cut off and how I wanted it layered and she did just so. Thais is very friendly and we spoke a lot about where we are from and what it's been like living in Boston. She also gave me a few tips with styling my hair when I'd let it air dry into my natural curls and how to keep them as tamed as they want to be. I'd definitely come back here to get my next haircut. I have been a long time client there. I use to get haircuts and full or partial balayages with Deric Lee and I've always been pretty happy. Until this Saturday...it's been a few months that I think about stopping balayage/highlights as my hair is getting blonder and blonder and it's become high maintenance, also I miss my darker shade of blonde so I contacted Deric to know if he could get me back to my natural blond hair color (= very dark brownish blonde) and he replied it was possible, I also attached a picture to my message to make sure we were on the same page. I was due for a partial balayage but considering that my whole head needed to get darker, I booked a full balayage. When I arrived on Saturday, I asked him again if it would cover well my very blonde highlighted hair and he said yes. Once he got done with the balayage and started blow drying my hair, I realized not only it was absolutely not darker but that I was even blonder than when I came in. He asked if I liked it so I politely said that it was not what I asked for and that I was expecting to see my hair much darker. The only thing he told me was "Everybody's going blonde for the summer and you want to go dark??" and "You got balayage for years, you won't like your hair darker"...ok but these are things I would have liked to hear before, I would have gone for a haircut and found someone who accepts to do something else than bright blonde balayages... I hate my hair, I hate that I had to spend 371$ on something that is so freaking not what I asked for and I hate also that Deric thinks it's okay to do what he wants and just tell his unhappy client to "just enjoy it" because guess what, I dont! read more

I was really nervous to get my hair done - I typically get my hair cut by the people at Living Proof or my mom and sister, and I've never had a balayage before. I found this through Gilt City and was honestly super surprised to find something that was such a good deal for a salon on Newbury. I made an appointment on the phone with Amber. She cut off the dead ends first, applied the balayage, let it sit for ~30 minutes, had someone wash it out and apply treatment, did a blow dry and a layered haircut like I asked, and then loosely curled it (for photo purposes; this didn't come with the balayage). It came out looking beautiful! I paid an extra $40 to get something that wouldn't cause as much damage to my hair, and it was worth it. My hair was soft and shiny; the balayage looked natural but added dimension to my hair. I'm also glad she didn't cut it too short. Overall, great experience. I'm sad writing this review because everyone working here is really nice, but the quality of the salon isn't great. The hair and makeup they did was really just ok - we mostly had to redo everything before our event. The price, however, is also truly outrageous. They wanted to charge us $57 for a braid that they had the receptionist do in 1 minute after not even blow drying but just curling my hair. In addition to the cost of the styling. I went down a rabbit hole of looking up skincare videos/procedures and ultimately ended up convincing myself that I HAD to book a facial #treatyoself. I booked an appointment at Beaucage for a Beaucage Signature Facial with Karen and had a great experience! Karen was incredibly knowledgeable and walked me through every step of the process. I always felt like I was in good hands (ha, literally) and I left feeling super relaxed and my skin felt/looked incredible. Before leaving, Karen also gave me advice on what products to use for my skin type. She was not pushy and it never felt like she was trying to upsell me on unnecessary products. Janelle is the best!!! I met her for the first time last night for my appointment for a Rezo cut at Beaucage. From the minute she greeted me she was absolutely amazing, friendly and so easy to talk to. She explained everything she was doing and why. Took her time to make sure I understood the differences between the Deva/Rezo cutting styles and why the Rezo was best for me. She explained the best products to use without being pushy or making me feel bad that I didn't purchase those products while there. She shared her curly hair knowledge with me and I walked out feeling amazingly beautiful and confident. I have NEVER loved a haircut more or left a salon having had such a positive experience. Yikes. I wasn't going to write a bad review; instead I reached out to the salon and tried to come to an agreement. However, they are incredibly unhelpful and frankly just rude. I got a Gilt for this place to have a balayage and cut with Jo, and I couldn't regret it more. Jo is a nice girl, but do not go to her for balayage. I showed her photos of what I wanted (blonde balayage amid my dark brown hair), and it came out brassy and streaky. I've had balayage many times before - this is the worst I've ever seen. I was almost in tears. Then I got to the counter to pay the additional $40 for the conditioning mask Jo sold me on, and was told it would be $68 because toner isn't included in the Gilt. Toner is ALWAYS included in a balayage pricing. Jo didn't explain it was extra, and it certainly didn't specify in the Gilt. I wrote to them after, since again I was almost in tears at the salon and didn't want to have an outburst, asking them to refund me for the toner and if I could see another stylist to fix my hair. They said they'd refund me for the toner, but that was 4 Days ago and they still haven't. They are also refusing to have another stylist fix my hair. It's Jo or no one, is what they're saying to me. Why would I want the inexperienced stylist who ruined my hair in the first place to try to fix it?? Other salons would let me see another stylist to correct the problem right away. Beaucage is ideally located on Boston's hair salon mecca: Newbury street. I found the warm, friendly, chatty atmosphere refreshing, inviting and relaxing. I'm not into salons that charge you high prices for atmosphere & attitude. Here I just felt gratitude for my great looking hair! My stylist, Samantha, appeared to be a hair psychic, in that she knew exactly what was best for my hair type WITHOUT my telling her. IE Bleach turns it orange, so she used "single process, permanent color foils with a toner." She also assumed that razor cuts ruin my thick, course locks (yes, they make the ends look kinky & burned), so she assured me she would never use one. For once, I didn't have to teach my stylist about my hair! *smile* The only services I've used so far are for my hair, and they're the BEST HAIR SALON I'VE BEEN TO ON NEWBURY STREET. I've had hair trauma since moving to Boston. Every salon on Newbury charges a lot to cover their rent, BUT...BEAUCAGE IS WORTH EVERY PENNY! read more

This salon is definitely on the pricier side when it comes to hair care.. But you're paying for the quality service, excellent stylists, and upper shelf products. I had Emily and she turned my damaged black hair into an ash blonde ombré beauty. She was really patient and friendly with me. During my first appointment, she spent 9 hours (NINE STRAIGHT HOURS) working with my hair and never showed any frustration or agitation. When we took a break for lunch, she even came back with a cookie she had bought for me :-). Two days later, she spent over four hours lightening my hair for a third time. It seemed like every member of the staff came over to compliment my new hairstyle which was a big confidence boost. Summary: this is not at all about their actual salon services - we never got that far. Main concerns: 1. (major issue) From a COVID perspective, way too many people in that small of a space (I estimated 15-20 people, with most chairs filled) - ESPECIALLY when COVID cases in Suffolk co are so high and only going higher 2. (minor issue, but really annoying) They rescheduled my appointment three times, and then ultimately were not actually able to find a record of my appointment when I showed up. Full details: Just wanted to share my experience: I just moved to Boston and had done a lot of research to find a salon I thought would match the service I'd had in my last city. Ultimately, I selected Beaucage based on the availability of experienced stylists who specialized in curly hair. I booked an appointment three weeks out (earliest available with the stylist I wanted), and got a call a week later that, unfortunately, that stylist was leaving the salon, and could they reschedule me with another stylist. I agreed, which required me to push my appointment out another half week. A day later, I received another call that we needed to reschedule because that time wouldn't work. A bit more back-and-forth, and we finally settled on April 3 at 9AM. I show up at 8:55AM. I get my temperature checked on entry (that misses everyone who has COVID and can spread it, just not showing symptoms yet), and they ask me to wash hands (not really going to protect against a virus spread by aerosols, but ok), and show me to a chair, where I waited fifteen minutes while they scrambled to find my appointment (they did not inform me that there was any issue during this time). While waiting, I noticed that most of the chairs were occupied in my section of the salon, and I estimated about 15-20 people overall in the salon. I also became hyper-aware that everyone was having active conversations - not an issue without COVID or if the place was a quarter full, but just added to my concern. Note: everyone WAS wearing masks - but again, they're an imperfect solution and barrier, which is why you also want fewer people in proximity, ventilation/outdoors, etc. After waiting fifteen minutes in a chair, the receptionist returns and lets me know she couldn't find my appointment and could she reschedule me with another stylist. I appreciated her trying to work to fix this situation, but honestly, I was not comfortable there, so I just left. Final note: This wouldn't be an issue outside COVID, if you're vaccinated, or if your risk tolerance is different than mine. I was definitely uncomfortable in the environment, and the appointment scheduling issues left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I had an appointment to do balayage at this salon. The stylist showed me multiple pictures of work that he had done on previous clients -- all were fine, but I told him I didn't want my hair styled exactly like that (it looked more ombre than balayge). I again told him what I wanted. After he had finished it, and started blowing it out, I told him I hated it, and it was exactly like I said I didn't want it. It looked like my head had been dipped in paint, you could tell there was a line where the bleach met my natural hair. And it was far more blonde than I said that I wanted and did not look natural (very ombre-esque). He was very nice nice and ended up dying it back darker. However (I didn't realize this at the time) but he used toner instead of hair dye. After two weeks, the darker color that had fixed my hair had completely washed out. I called the salon back and spoke with a manager. The manager was REALLY nice and explained to me it was toner, not dye, that had been placed back in my hair. She offered to have me come back in for more toner. I explained that I thought it had been permanently fixed when I originally said I didn't like it and was disappointed to find that it was toner that had been placed (I didn't want to keep coming back in and paying for toner until my hair had been ). Overall, I'm so happy the manager took the time to chat with me on the phone. She was super nice and I'm really grateful for her. I'm very disappointed I received something that I had specifically said I didn't want. Plus, quality of it was disappointing. And now I'm having to spend double what I initially paid to get my hair fixed by a different salon. Based on my experience, I would not recommend someone coming here to try something new. read more

Found this place via GiltCity (a trendier version of Groupon) several years ago and very thankful I did! The first stylist I saw for highlights and blowout has since left, but that helped me find Larissa (may have spelled her name wrong!) She is super sweet and helpful in that she listens to what I want but also helps me try to determine what would look best. The atmosphere is trendy and the front windows look out onto Newbury Street. Although it is located in the heart of Boston, prices for highlights are reasonable. Adding a blowout can boost the price significantly, but in my opinion what is the point of spending money to color your hair without being able to walk out of the salon with a great blowout? I wish I still lived in the city as making the trip in just for hair services can be a bit much, so I try to coordinate with others things that bring me into the city. read more

I have dark auburn hair and she gives me a gorgeous golden blonde every time that complements my red undertones. She's an honest stylist and gives you her professional opinion. There were times when she told me certain ideas I had wouldn't look the best and she suggested something else that would complement my hair and face ... and I am GRATEFUL. Beaucage does an amazing job! I went and saw Emily here, a level 2 (of 7) stylists and she did such an amazing job. I told her I wanted layers, a framed face cut and all the dead ends gone and she clarified everything before she went ahead and cut and it was beautiful. She also gave a great blowout, which is so important! A lot of hair stylists give a good cut but don't blow it out well after but I am still rocking her blowout 2 days later. The salon is really clean and well done overall- there's tea, coffee and biscuits and it's a very comfortable environment. Thanks for a great haircut experience! read more

I waited an hour for my appointment with the Owner/Director. No one checked in with me about being late, and when I asked about it I got attitude from the staff. When I brought up the "cancel" word, they pressured me to wait, promising I would make my other commitments. I was scheduled for my cut at 5:30, thinking I would have plenty of time to make a 7:30 p.m. dinner meeting. But I never got to the meeting, and didn't leave the salon until 7:25! What happened? By the time the owner came by I was rushed through a minimal, 10-minute trim for $125. The wait and rude service was excruciating for such a little amount of attention. The worst part was sitting in the shampoo chair, dripping wet and cold while waiting to be seen. I've talked to other Beaucage clients, and Beaucage is a notorious over-booker. The salon seemed harried and overcrowded. It was not a relaxing atmosphere at all. The stylists aren't even that skilled, considering the beotch-y attitude, ridiculous prices and inflated reputation. Run, don't walk, from these LA wanna-be's! PS -- I posted this same review on City Search, and the "Director of Marketing," Deborah Boudreau, posted a response gloating about her technical experience, "honestly, how would I have stayed on Newbury Street for over 20 years?" Then, she denied that the experience ever happened, "I don't know what salon this poster visited, but it couldn't have been Beaucage." All this followed by some meaningless blurb about how the salon, "has over 60 staff dedicated to customer service," some crap-a**, boilerplate language slapped onto any and every promotion they run (how else would they get clients -- they won't be seeing repeaters). THEY TOTALLY MASSACRED MY HAIR. This review is about the salon only. I've never been to the spa. But this past Sunday, I went to get my haircut at a Cut A Thon to benefit Children's Hospital. Did I expect the top flight stylists would be giving $40 haircuts at this event? Probably not. Did I expect that trimming long hair would not be a big stretch, therefore it was OK to take a chance on a salon/stylist I'd never tried, to benefit charity? BIG MISTAKE. First of all, the front desk staff was ditzy and disorganized. No one took my coat. No one offered me a drink. I was kept waiting half an hour for my appointment. I know this is a charity event, but you are also running a business here people. Basic courtesy would have been appreciated. When the stylist came over and introduced herself, I had misgivings. She had REALLY BAD 80s looking, long, strangley hair. When she told me she was from Revere, I was not shocked. But hey, you can't judge a book by its cover. And this is Beaucage - its got a great rep. It'll be fine. IT WAS NOT. I told the stylist I wanted to trim my hair, not loose any length. A little layering around my face would be OK, but really just clean up the dead ends. SHE TOOK ABOUT 4 INCHES OFF! SHE CUT CRAZY LAYERS ALL OVER MY HEAD! It's going to take me MONTHS to grow out this catastrophe. Every time I look in the mirror, I just want to cry. But hey, I guess I can comfort myself that the money went to a good cause. read more

I went to Beaucage for a brazilian wax and my regular waxing place (La Dolce Vita) was all booked... it was by far the worst I have ever received. First off, the waxing rooms are located directly across from the reception area... when I was told to go change in the room, the woman doing the my waxing, Monica, opened the door wide open to the entire room and lingered for a moment speaking with the receptionist as I sat on the table naked from the waist down. Now, I'm not entirely shy so I wasn't too freaked out by it, but I thought it was extremely unprofessional. Monica did the waxing quickly... a little too quickly as she missed tons of areas and didn't bother to go back and tweeze. To her credit, she tried to make conversation, however I'm not much for talking during a wax. When she was done she abruptly flew out of the room as I was inspecting the wax job (perhaps to avoid having to go back and redo the areas she missed which I was about to ask her to do)... and then, to my amazement, I heard her joking with the receptionist about me saying "It was hilarious, she was so nervous she couldn't talk." I have had many brazilian waxes and was not nervous at all... I just don't particularly enjoy making small talk with strangers while they are ripping my hair out. Overall, this was an awful experience... and way too expensive for the poor job that was done and the insulting atmosphere. I went to Beaucage in search of my first eyebrow and brazilian wax ever so of course I had a few worries about it. I did my research and decided to go there for all of it's great reviews. Monica did my eyebrows and did such a great job! It didn't hurt at all, which was a huge surprise to me. In fact, she did such a great job that when I went into Salon Marc Harris to do a small shoot the make-up artist commented on how great they looked and asked me where I got them done. Katherine did my brazilian and I love it! I will admit though, it was my first time having it done and it hurt! a lot! haha but I have a very small threshold for pain so I may be exaggerating. Even though it hurt, I'm definitely doing it again! (girls are crazy, i know!) Hopefully it won't hurt as much the second time since the first is supposed to be the worse of it. But what can I say? It feels and looks fabulous and my bf loves it too so I can't complain! read more

I recently went for my first bikini wax. I did some research on Yelp first, and decided on Beaucage, and more specifically on Katherine and I was not disappointed. Even though I showed up ten minutes late (always at the mercy of trains as I am), Katherine was the model of grace. She brushed off my apology and a smile said I was forgiven all. She showed me to a room quickly, but gave me plenty of time to undress and get comfortable once I was there. The lighting in the room wasn't low enough to be sketchy, but it was dim enough to make me feel comfortable getting undressed. Katherine came back in and started right away, which I liked because I was so anxious to get it over with. She was so quick I barely had time to register what was going on, never mind feel anything. Plus she chatted easily the entire time, keeping my mind off of what was going on. We talked about our jobs, how she got into waxing in the first place, and reminisced some about UMass Amherst, where it turns out we both went to school. The place was so clean, fresh sheet, fresh towel, and sticks changed in between wax application. As a nurse I felt safe about the entire thing, it wasn't at all like some of the horror stories I'd heard about other places. When she was finished she gave me a chance to check it out in case I wanted her to fix anything, but everything was perfect. She didn't try to sell me any products, although there are some for sale in the salon, and told me how to take care of my newly exposed skin at home with products I already own. I was in and out in less than 20 minutes, the whole thing was nearly painless, and our conversation made the whole thing border on fun. (I think to actually call it "fun" might be creepy, but who knows?) I would recommend Beaucage, and particularly Katherine to absolutely anyone whether it's your first time or your fortieth time. Just to further hammer the point home that this salon is not worth the hype or money, I gave them a second shot when I was able to wrangle an appointment with a different stylist. I arrive and explain to the stylist what I am looking for. While she probably meant no harm, I can add this to the list of salons who simply do not listen. I left with darker hair than I came in with, which is the complete opposite of what I walked in wanting. The entire time she was just trying to talk me out of what I had wanted. I asked for the top half of my hair to be dark, and the underneath portion to be light. It was a simple request, really. She explained this would constitute more than a single process color which was originally what we had set up. This was fair, I thought. She told me she didn't think the stark contrast would work well (which is what I was going for the whole time) and thought I should keep the tones consistent. I had asked for dark black/purple on top and she thought the underneath portion should be in the purple family. Ok, I can be persuaded by the expert in the field, but I told her as long as there was a noticeable contrast in colors i would be fine with her advice. She also suggests a few foils to work in the lighter color for a small fee. I say as long as it doesn't go over "x" amount, I'm fine with it. We begin. I realize I don't even know what color she picked for the bottom. I ask her, she said a light purple color. In my mind, this means a light violet based on what I had requested. Long story short, the highlights were completely unnecessary as she didn't even dye them the purple color, the color underneath turned out to be an extremely dark purple (no contrast, and you couldn't even see it in regular light), and the price had more than doubled than what I had originally walked in there thinking I'd pay. I can understand wanting to guide someone and provide good advice. It's a completely other thing to just disregard what the client is asking for just because you don't think it'll look right. The entire concept of my hair was lost, and I ended up paying way more for a look I didn't want. While it wasn't offensive by any means, it wasn't dramatic and the stylist took over without keeping what I wanted in mind. Another disappointment on Newbury Street. read more

I was never planning on writing a review, but after speaking to a couple of people about my experience I realized that what they did wasn't right what so ever and I shouldn't feel bad about it. I dyed my hair myself at home and didn't like how it turned out and decided to try them as they were near my job and I had to go to work afterwards. My hair was a white blonde and after my appointment, my roots turned blazing orange and the rest of my hair just looked like a hot mess. I paid and cried as I left the salon. I was embarrassed to walk down the street looking like that. The person who did my hair saw it, did not say anything about how horrible it looked but you could tell in her face. Nobody in the salon said anything about it. I went to work absolutely distraught and dyed my hair brown the first thing when I got home because I couldn't think of any other way to fix that mess and I certainly did not want to have that hair for longer than a second. I called to let them know of my experience, I spoke to a manager who took down my number and said the general manager would call... I love my stylist. I think she is a sweetheart, and she really does give me a *pretty good* hair cut. I don't know, it's not like I'm a super model looking for some sort of magic. I know how to use styling products, but that doesnt mean I'm going to do it every morning. It's even, she listens, and she always has some interesting family/boy drama story to keep me interested. Plus, it all fits in a ponytail, so it cant be that bad. To that point, Janelle (that being my stylist), should head somewhere else. I dont know where, but there has got to be someplace better. (Has anyone noticed that the reason the average rating on Beaucage is high is because of one person-- Katherine? I hope she's getting a holiday bonus...) I agree with everyone about the salon itself: outdated, no merchandising at all, and the waiting area-- are you kidding me? It's a nightmare. Too many people, too much shit, and the smell-- wow, all crammed into the teensiest space ever. But, by far, the biggest problem is the g*d*damned receptionists. WTF? Between the Long Island Princess and the most incapable gaggle of gossip girls ever, I feel like I get stupider every time I go in. The last three times I've been there I've waited over 20 minutes for my haircut, only to find out that no one told Janelle I was there. Seriously? We are not working on a battleship, ladies, its the size of a back-facing one bedroom. Speak a little louder and they're bound to hear you. I personally think the prices are fine. This may get me tarred and feathered, but if you have an expectation of paying less than $50- $75 for cut here in Boston, you're kidding yourself. It's not like they cant be found, but if you waltz to a stylist on the second block of Newbury and bitch about the price, you may need to have your mall bangs examined. It may not be worth it, but you're an idiot for thinking they're not going to charge it. All in all, I think if you find the right stylish, the other stuff really doesn't matter. As a lifestyle place? Absolutely not. You're going to be treated like cattle, get your own coffee, hang up your own coat, and stand around waiting for some girl named Midge to stop recapping last nights 90210 to her front desk posse before you get a chance to pay... I cant say it was bad, but it was not good. The place is tiny, on the 4th floor, with an elevator that barely has enough space for me and my big coach purse. The torture (waxing) room was tiny, barely any room to breathe, obviously no place for screaming. There is no waiting area, so you just have to stand there and wait. No magazines, but there is water station. If this is a spa, I live in a castle. They make you lie down on wax paper, and it gets sticky, and you are covered with wax and wax paper. WTF. Im used to just lying on a cotton sheet, not on wax paper. I was also mortified by the fact that they wont let you put the tip on the credit card. I had to go outside, find an ATM and come back. The only good thing was Karen, she was sweet and chatty. That helps. read more

This salon is nothing short of amazing. Let me first start off describing how accommodating they are to clients. I work a crazy job, and had to reschedule my appointment twice. The staff at Beaucage was completely understanding and wonderful! But the real star of the show was Antoinette, by hairstylist. At first, I was hesitant to see anyone other than my stylist at home. However, she quickly eased my fears! She did a great job cutting my hair! My hair now is easy to manage, and has awesome layers! On top of her hair-cutting prowess, Antoinette was great to chat with, and was hilarious. I highly recommend Beaucage. Overall, getting my hair-cut there was a great experience. I will be suggesting Antoinette to all of my friends in the Boston area. read more

Terrible customer service and no solutions to a problem that they caused. Very disappointed with the results I received.

I used to go to Beaucage alot.. having read they work on this and that celebrities when they're in town. (mariah carey's nails) First I had Kristin, who was good but only at one type of haircut- long bangs, layers. Then I switched to Janelle, who's a really outgoing, friendly girl, but spends too short of a time on her haircuts, done cutting in less than 10 mins. So, I will be exploring and going to other stylists who spend more time and energy on the $50 haircuts. Though if I were on Newbury street and didn't feel like exploring, I'd still go to them. read more

If I could upgrade to six stars, I would. I love this place. I wanted to update to add: The receptionists have improved mightily. Maybe it's just because I'm a regular, though. But now I get smiles and helpfulness every time I go in. Also, they have a rewards program now if you book via their online system, which you can exchange to pay for all or part of your service. Nice. The only negative -- they got rid of Bumble & Bumble--total sad face. They've replaced it with Aveda...blaaah.
