I DO NOT GIVE 5 STAR REVIEWS OFTEN, but... Crystal gave me the BEST HAIRCUT OF MY LIFE! Crystal Caruso is my hair's new best friend. (Upon chatting with her during your treatments, you'll wish she was yours too!) Sure she went to beauty school, but I think her true training came from working in her Aunt's salon since she was 16 years old. She looked at my face like I WAS A LUMP OF CLAY...AND SIMPLY SCULPTED AROUND ME! 1. She listened to every word I said about "no bleach" in my color and "no razors" in my cut. 2. She found a way to DYE BLACK HAIR WITHOUT BLEACH! She even handed me a color book of hair swatches AND matched the swatch I picked by color mixing a custom blend for me. 3. She found a way to RAZOR CUT MY HAIR...WITHOUT A RAZOR! She used the time consuming, highly skilled, and far better for your hair, method of holding the edge of the scissors like a razor and cutting tiny sections of hair one at a time. The result leaves you looking like your HAIR HAS MUCH MORE WAVE & BODY THAN IT DOES! I never want to have anyone else touch my hair again...and I live 2 blocks from Newbury street...the unofficial Hair Capitol of Boston! Crystal is currently renting space at Janet's Beauty Salon in Medford (she recently closed her salon and moved there temporarily). I'll make the extra drive to wherever she re-opens again. Chrystal is fantastic!!1 I went to visit the salon today and saw Chrystal, She was very educated in hair as well as all types of body slimming and detox treatment's have been to many salons trying to find someone to cover my stubborn GREY'S"S !!! You know I can home and checked every piece looking for one. I was happy not only with the color but NO Grey's !!!! The salon was easy to find,modern and clean!!! and a great service. I've always been 'somewhat' satisfied with previous haircuts at various salons/barber shops in my life, but Janet truly gave me the best haircut I've ever had. I have thick, black Asian hair and usually like having sides clipped and thinning shears used on top. Maybe it's just my luck, but most other places usually leave a patch of long hair sticking out at odd places on the top. I usually have to cut those odd strands myself when i get home. Janet, on the other hand, she took great care in making sure the top was neatly cut with the thinning shears. And there weren't any patches of odd strands anywhere. She's got lots of experience and it definitely shows. I'm super happy with my haircut and overall experience with Janet. My boyfriend and I are gonna be repeat customers for sure! read more

I had the eyelash extension and I am extremely idissappointed. First of all, they are not black which requires you to put a coat of mascara on them. Once you do, they clump and break. They were supposed to last 2 - 3 months and a month later not only have I lost the extensions but my real eyelashes came off with them. The only eyelash extension you should buy are the ones that don't require mascara. I am so unhappy and left with having to glue on fake eyelashes until they grow back. read more

I just want to let everyone know about Janet's Beauty Salon in Medford. I am inlove with this place and what it has done for my skin and hair. I cannot recall a time when I had been so happy with a well done job on my hair. Janet's salon does it all from keratin treatments to hair extensions, facials and dermabration, and as if this was not enough, they have a permanent tattoo clinic! The sky is the limit at this place. They also do excellent manicure and pedicure. I really really recommend this place to everyone. The customer treatment is excellent. After a hard day at work, it is always nice to come to a place where you are being constantly pampered. And after I leave, my self steem is up to the sky. How could it not, my hair looks always gorgeous after I leave this salon. Love how radiant my skin is after a facial and dermabration. Janet does an excellent job with make up as well. Just LOVE everything I get done at this place. She is a master of keratin bond hair extensions. The lady is marvelous with hair coloring and high lights. I get so many compliments for everything I get done at this salon/spa. My husband is a tough critic and he always approves everything Janet does for me. The place is clean, and it has a parking lot which is a plus. However, I was not happy with the way my makeup was done. First of all, I had to wait over an hour even thought I had made an appointment in advance. Secondly, after waiting for a long time, I find out that Janet had given my appointment to someone else. My makeup was done at the end by her daughter and it was awful! Worst make up done ever! The foundation she used was much darker than my natural complexion, which made my face and neck look weird from the contrast. The eye shadow combination was awful too! I am never going back there again! The reason, I had originally had gone to Janet is because Janet had done the makeup for my cousin years ago. This place doesn't even deserve one star. I went here because the reviews were good and it was close to my house. I called in the morning and asked if they had any openings at 530 for a partial highlight and a cut. The girl told me yes. I got there at 530 and sat in the waiting room until 6 then was asked to move to the salon chair. I waited over an hour before I was started on. I showed a picture of the color highlights that I wanted and was told that I would be able to get them. The girl applied this stuff to my hair which started to burn and itch. Tubers out it was bleach!!! I am already blonde and never once needed to bleach my hair for highlights! After it washed out my hair was bright yellow! I waited for another hour just sitting there while she curled another clients hair, waxed and dyed her eye brows. The phone was also ringing off the hook with family and friends calling and she proceeded to answer every time. Then she put me in the sink and applied another product which she said was the high light and would take the yellow out. Again this burned. When she finished she said maybe we need to do an actual high light. I looked in the mirror and my hair was still bright yellow! I started freaking out because now it was almost 11pm and I was exhausted and needed to get home. She said she was going to apply more toner which again burned my scalp and face. My hair turned out very very blonde which isn't what I wanted done. At the end of it all she charged me $170 and I didn't even get to cut my hair just trim some of the dead ends which she basically killed! I was there from 530pm to 1145pm. Worst experience of my entire life. Will never go back to this place and will make sure I tell everyone how unprofessional they are! I left very unhappy and almost $200 poorer. Im writing this review after whitnessing my mothers experience at this salon. This was my moms second time visiting janets for a permanent makeup application. I accompanied her to her appointment which was at 3:30. We arrived right on time, despite friday traffic and janet herself said i will be with you in 15 min. We sat in the waiting area patiently as janet was finishing up with her client. 25 minutes had went by and i noticed she was still blow drying a client with very long hair. Another 10 minutes passed she did not check in with us. At this point we were getting very fustrated. I have been in the beauty industry for over 10 years and i have NEVER left a client waiting for such a long time never mind not checking in with them. Finally after an hour she was ready for us. She took us into the seperate part of the salon were she does the makeup. She needed another 15 min to setup her supplies which was rediculous. Knowing that you have a client you should be prepared and ready to go. Janets deamenor is very unprofessional and its makes you feel very uncomfortable. After the application was complete it was time to checkout. My mom used a gift certificate i purshased her for her birthday. When she gave janet the gift certificate she asked if we got it there. What kind of question is that? It was VERY insulting! I have to say this was the most awkward interaction we have EVER experienced. Also i would like to mention, during the tatoo she never checked in with my mom to see how she was doing. When you are sticking needles near someones eyeball its common sence to see how they are doing. I would suggest doing your research if you are looking into a permenant makeup application because janets salon is a no go. read more
