Kari has been my go-to for perfect lash lifts! I also recently tried their new brow lamination service and loved it as well, especially since if you do them together you can save some time and be done in about an hour. My lashes naturally grow straight down and have NO curl and my brow hairs grow in various directions, making it difficult to shape. Kari always meticulously gives my lashes an even, fanned out curl which gives my eyes a more open and bright natural look. She really took her time and listened to my goals to make them look perfect. I just got back to work and put my makeup on, sent a selfie to the ladies, ya know, standard. They were all, you're face looks different but we can't tell why. Good different, just different. So, thank you Cori! This amazing salon is my home away from home! Diana is an incredible stylist-I can't compliment her work enough. She magically transforms my crazy frizzy hair into the best blow out-bouncy, sexy waves with zero frizz. Diana has also perfected my hair color-she helped bring it from dull dishwater brown (from another colorist) to buttery blonde! Came in with a giltcity voucher for a blow dry and gel manicure. The place is super tiny but cute. The lady who checked me in asked me if I wanted water and then never brought me any. Normally I wouldn't care but I was literally the only client in the salon. She had a bit of an attitude the whole time. She came in towards the end of my service and asked when we were going to be done so she could start her Saturday... The blow dry was great and the stylist did just want I asked! The stylist was also super friendly and very sweet. I would definitely come back for a blow dry, but the gel manicures was one of the worst I've ever had. The "station" is literally a small table next to the hair stations, and there are maybe 5 color options to choose from. The manicurist didn't ask me how I wanted my nails filed and they are all a different length/shape. The polish is all over my cuticles, and the sides of my nails were barely painted. The polish is also super thin and cracked THE NEXT DAY. I wouldn't pay $20 for this service let alone $50! Overall I think the place is out of its mind for charging what it does for not only the quality of service, but the overall atmosphere. read more

I went in on Saturday for a Blow-Out with Ellen. I tried to use a Gilt spray-tan voucher that I purchased this winter for the Blow-out and wasn't able to. That is not why I am giving this salon 1 star, the rating is 100% based on my interaction with Ellen. I gave my voucher to the receptionist who said she had to call the manager and ask (which is totally understandable). Ellen went to the front and the receptionist explained what I had asked for and in a loud and bullying tone Ellen proceeded to say over and over again "no she cannot use it, and make sure you read exactly what the voucher says." This is a small salon so I could hear every word which was extremely unprofessional. When Ellen came back to tell me that I couldn't use the voucher she was abrasive and rude. It was less about what she said BUT how she said it. I told her I was prepared to pay for the blow-out but since she was not being very nice about it, I was going to skip it and she said "ok" in once again a rude tone. Was I getting a blow-out for my 30th bday, an engagement party, or another important event? Ellen didn't care at all about it ruining my evening or providing me with a service that could have helped the salon gain a client. Go to a salon where you are treated kindly. read more

I recently went to Townhouse for balayage and gloss with Rose. I hadn't had my hair dyed in years and was super nervous. I really wanted something natural... but better. Rose really hit the nail on the head. My hair looks exactly like the pictures I showed her. She also asked me to show her pics from various angles and explain exactly what I liked or disliked about each picture. I went to the Salon and had James do my highlights and a cut. I was so pleased with the style that I wait until I'm visiting Boston (I live in NY now), just so that I can have James cut my hair. a couple of years ago, my daughter encouraged me to sign up for blowouts with this store. she paid for the first one. after the first appointment I signed up for a series of blowouts for approx. $365 and I should have known then what I was going to face, they charged me - essentially charged twice for one service. a bit later I tried to book appointments and was rebuffed. could not get an appointment. I begged and begged and finally got an appointment for my hair before a wedding. when it came time for using my subscription, the technician said he did not work under the subscription, so I paid, again paying TWICE for one service. since then I have tried and tried to get a refund. the owner was supposed to call, I have been ignored and rebuffed many times. my next step is to report with the BBB and the state licensing board, it may not get anywhere but I have had it . beware of this place and the owner knows all about this practice. read more

I bought a Gilt City voucher for a haircut and blowout. I had read good reviews prior to buying the voucher, but as soon as my hair was being washed I knew this wasn't going to be a good cut. I have a lot of hair, so I know I know my hair isn't the easiest to cut and takes longer, however everything that could've gone wrong, went wrong. 1) shampoo was still in my hair when I left. I was itching for hours. 2) I planned on cutting 2 inches off, but only asked her to cut off a half inch in case I needed to get it corrected else where. Fortunately, it was only half an inch! She didn't comb or part my hair before cutting, she never compared sides to make sure they were even, never asked me to put my head down, uncross legs or anything to ensure she was going to cut my hair even 3) WORST blow dry ever!!! I get blow drys weekly too, so I know what a good blow dry is and I have a lot of hair. Usually takes 30-35 minutes, she took 50!!! Again, did not comb my hair first so every piece she pulled turned into a knot around her hairbrush and my hair looked worse after my appointment than it did walking in. Looked like it dried naturally. Rose was very nice, however I don't think she is professionally ready to cut and blow dry hair (2 basics). I've already made an appointment elsewhere to get my hair fixed, which is very disappointing that I have to pay again within a week. I was so excited for this appointment, and everything that could go wrong did. read more

She did an amazing job adding layers and volume to my long hair and my hair looks so much healthier! I just got my nails done here but I haven't tried any of their other services. They have one nail technician who comes in on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only. I can't recall her name because I'm a terrible person but she was quite friendly and accommodating for all my polish color indecision. I got a gel mani and regular pedi with a Gilt City voucher, and overall I feel pretty meh about the results. While she was very good at buffing and cleaning my nails (they tend to be bumpy and ridged and they came out oh-so-smooth after), the paint job felt a bit rushed. I have tiny toes and she trimmed off a bit too much, leaving my pinky toes with awkwardly shaped nails. Traces of my previous toe nail polish can be glimpsed through the new nude-ish shade. My gel polish was thin and really required another coat, and I dislike when the polish close to the cuticle is uneven. All nit-picky things, to be fair, but for what is usually a $95 service (seriously?!), I expected more precision. read more

I went to Townhouse today because it is conveniently down the block from where I work (Core de Vie) and it came highly recommended from two of my co-workers. I had a cut and blow dry with Shannon. She was amazing! I'm the type of person that usually cries after a hair appointment, but I'm so pleased with how it turned out! Usually I'm very anxious to get my hair done because I have very thin/fine hair and a sensitive scalp. Every other place I've been to in Boston I have been tearing during my wash and while they "brush" (pull) my hair during the blow out. Not today! Shannon washed my hair and massaged my scalp and it felt SO good. I actually relaxed! I also have a fear of products because of my baby fine hair, and started to panic when Shannon pulled out 4 different things to put in my hair. Not only does my hair feel soft, healthy and NOT sticky, but I actually have body! She even put a special product in just to help control my static. I am so happy that I went in to Townhouse today. I HIGHLY recommend going there. I will be back again soon, not just for a trim and blow dry but also for a Mani/Pedi! read more

For the price ($75), you should let customers know that this is not one of your regular services. Not only did I not have time for both because the hairstylist was running so late, but as I mentioned, it was not done well at all. The staff was very kind about it, they even said they flagged a discount in my file, not sure they did or didn't, but still not worth the price paid. I have to say I was really disappointed with my experience getting my hair done here. After a friend gave me a rave review of this place, I rushed to get my hair highlighted here. I think where I went wrong is that my friend has light hair and I has dark hair. First of all, I was at the salon for eight hours because too much color was stripped out of my hair and it became a scary light yellow color. Even though it was nice that James stayed extra time to try to fix this error, it still was a horrible experience combined with the fact that clumps of my hair were falling out...the ends of my hair were literally burned off. The other issue I had was that I asked for balyage highlights, and I only got standard foil highlights. I have been to many top salons in LA and NYC and was really trying to find someone good in Boston. For now, I just need my hair to recover from all the damage. read more

I came in with a partial foil Gilt City Voucher, but I didn't expect a whole lot because it was a discounted service. I was more than pleasantly surprised. Alejandro was was my hairdresser, he took the time to not only touch up my roots before the foil, he finished with a gloss. The color process took longer than we expected, it happens, but he was not worried at all and didn't mind staying a little late to finish it up. Alejandro takes great pride in his work and pays attention to the details. I am blonde and the color came out amazing, not brassy or too yellow. We were hugging by the end of the appointment. Amy is the best in the business. Not only is she absolutely phenomenal with lashes, makeup, brows, you name it, but her personality is amazing. I honestly look at it like I'm going to visit my friend every few weeks. I have had my lashes done other places and was horrified at the outcome - lashes clumped together and they just looked awful. Amy is a true professional and makes the lashes look REAL, but with extra flair like you have a really good mascara or naturally long eyelashes. Everyone compliments mine but rarely they ask if they're real. I love how they last for weeks because she does such a good job. Getting ready in the morning is so easy with these lashes. I've been going to Amy for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. The salon itself is gorgeous and in a very convenient location in beacon hill. The prices are extremely affordable (especially for the high quality you get and the fact that you're right in the heart of Boston). Honestly worst customer service I've ever experienced. I had a remaining spray tan left from a Gilt voucher and I'd rather it not get used than have to deal with booking an appointment again. The person who answered put me on hold for several moments and then returns to the call only to say "let me get the receptionist"...who then put me on hold, only to come back and say she had zero visibility into the open time slots and said she had to call the tan technician and they'd call me back. Needless to say, I did not get a call back and the experience on the phone was such an obnoxious waste of time that I would not recommend this salon to anyone. Pretty shocking how difficult they would make it to even book an appointment...and clear that they need to invest in improved booking technology. The spray tans I did get only lasted a day and the woman was extremely unfriendly / not very comforting when it came to answering questions about the technique and product. read more
