We had a lovely time at the Beauclaire Restaurant for Mount Dora restaurant week. The restaurant is located at the Lakeside Inn hotel, which is a dream to stay at. The ambience is great and similar to a country club dining room, in my opinion. Guests were dressed all sorts of ways, but we chose a bit on the nicer side. Since we were there for Mount Dora restaurant week, we were offered a $50 per person, 3 course meal. This included a Caesar salad, choice of chicken or pork, and chocolate cake. We chose the pork as our meal. Everything was divine and full of flavor. One of the best meals we've had in a while. The service was good and everything came out rather quickly. It was my first time at the Lakeside Inn. The grounds are stunning. And there's so much to do activity wise. I went for the Regency Market that day so it was more crowded than usual. The Beauclaire Dining Room and the Verandah was bustling due to the market. There was a bit of a wait for lunch due to that. Once we got our table service was quite fast. They had a special menu for the day. I love the dark colors and dark wood aspects. I got the Duke of Monte Cristo sandwich served with a raspberry orange dip. It was fresh. And sandwich had a unique shape to it which was a nice touch. It was crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. I got a side of fries which were well seasoned. I need to come back and experience some of the other offerings at the inn. read more

Lovely restaurant with limited outdoor seating on their expansive front porch overlooking Lake Dora and two indoor dining areas. We had reservations, so we dined in the reserved dining room which had massive windows looking out to the beautifully landscaped area. Our server was attentive and pleasant, however, his shift must have ended and service was practically non existent halfway through our meal. To be fair though, a party of about 20 women had just wrapped up leaving one single server to clean up, rearrange the tables, and maybe even wait other table in the other dining area. After quite a wait of about 20 minutes she checked on us and we requested the dessert menu. Another long wait later we ordered dessert which came out more timely. The food was wonderful. We were told the soup of the day was tomato bisque and Italian wedding soup. My friend and I ordered a cup each and our server returned with an announcement the soup selection for today is actually minestrone. I ordered a cup and it was delicious. My friend ordered the tomato pie - sorry, out of it, then the monte cristo, sorry out, and ended up ordering the Reuben which she said was good and the seasoned fries were delicious. My Florida fresh salad with a delightful citrus vinaigrette was as delicious and indeed fresh. Desserts of cake and coffee were the perfect ending to a very nice meal. In all, service was a miss, but I don't know the story for them being short staffed. Food and atmosphere were wonderful and we'll return next time we're in town. read more

We had wanted to sit on the porch for dining but it was full so we ate in the formal dining room. I had forgotten how lovely it is! There are big picture windows looking out on a lovely Florida garden, lovely sunny day. I had the shrimp salad which was substantial and fresh! The first thing you need to understand when dining at the Beauclaire, part of Lakeside Inn here in Mount Dora, is that this location was developed in the1880s. So, a little threadbare never killed anybody. My first Sunday brunch here was pleasant (though I'm hesitant to pay about $25 for breakfast anywhere these days). I made my reservation online easily enough. Breakfast here finishes at 10a and then brunch service begins at 11a. Justin was super friendly when I arrived and I was seated and had already placed my Grand Slam order with OJ by 11:05a. That's pretty dang good. My server, Lisa, was very charming and - when I asked - she seemed to know quite a bit about the restaurant and hotel. The coral dining room is where I ate, they do not take reservations for sitting at the outdoor tables. The Grand Slam comes with eggs, your choice of bacon or sausage (patties), and potatoes or grits, with 4 small pancakes. The sausage and pancakes were very good, the potatoes well-seasoned, but the scrambled eggs left a lot to be desired. I would order fried eggs if you're looking for something fresher. The juice was delicious (no pulp), but $4 for one glass is just crazy. The water, I will say, was actually good - which pleasantly surprised me. You always want the water at a restaurant to be good - that's what they cook the food in. If not the Grand Slam, I'd bet the Belgian Waffle is a solid bet. I came to this restaurant with my family for Mother's Day, and the food was honestly really good! For their reasonable prices, I felt like the quality of the food was really fresh. I am deducting one star because our server was quite rude and wasn't really nice to us until we tipped her. I will also say that it wasn't the cleanest, especially our cutlery and the bathrooms. However, there's a great seating area outside and inside. Also, there is a lake right outside so it's really great to just walk around after dinner. read more

This is one of the settings at the Lakeside Inn. They have one kitchen serving the 3 seating areas; The Beauclaire, The Verandha and Tremain's Tavern. The ambiance and service for all 3 are great; true southern charm. For dinner we had The Bruschetta to start which was delicious and for Entrees we had the Brisket and Potato Encrusted Salmon which were equally delicious. The portions are quite large so come hungry. We had a great experience; service, food, and ambiance was spot on. Later that night we had the Peach Cobbler with some coffee on the Verandha to finish the evening off. Won't disappoint. read more

Took my wife here for her birthday and it didn't disappoint. The venue is located in the lobby of the Lakeside Inn a hotel that's been around since 1833. It's a very intimate setting and on the weekends they have a piano player to enhance the mood. The service was on point, our server Tiffany was very attentive without being overbearing. Her attention to detail and knowledge of the menu was great. She took very good care of us and made the occasion much better. The food was really good I had the NY Strip on point and my wife had the Surf and turf she also said it was amazing. Overall a great experience even though it was a long weekend. I do agree that it is a little hard to figure out how to be seated. You can go into the bar and find someone though. There is the bar seating, an inside dining room and the porch. After tracking someone down we got seated outside and had a lovely view of the lake and scenery. It was fun to sit and eat at this historic hotel. Our server was very friendly and single handed Lu managing the porch, which ended up getting pretty busy. We ordered the Cheese Plate to start. It was a generous portion of cheese, berries and prosciutto. It also came with two jams but weirdly no crackers or bread to eat with it. For dinner we ordered the Chicken Roulade and Chicken Pot Pie. Both were very large portions. The pot pie frankly could have been shared. But was super hot and tasty. Definitely a classic pot pie with lots of flavor. The Roulade was a chicken breast stuffed with tomatoes, onions cheese and spinach. Served with a caper cream sauce. It was a good meal over all and good service. The Lakeside Inn has been around since the 1800's , and was told about the restaurant using the same recipe for their chicken pot pie from the 1800's. Unfortunately, when I arrived, it was Sunday Brunch, and chicken pot pie wasn't on their menu. This didn't stop us from dining in, and there's plenty of seating outside on the Veranda, the bar area frlor Tremains Taproom, and the main dining room of The Beauclaire. They all share the same menu of thr day, and I ordered The Southern Charm Burger, and my wife ordered the Crab Cake Sandwich. Her crabcake Sandwich came with their housemade remoulade sauce that catapulted the sandwich and its flavor! My burger was very savory with the pimento cheese, bacon, fried green tomatoes, along with the lettuce and tomato. Their fries were fried perfectly with a crisp outside, yet warm and chewy inside. Our server Lloyd was awesome too! He was very prompt, and went out of his way to bring paper and crayons for my 4 year old to color. I'm not sure why this place is so lowly rated, it's possible because there are SO many good spots in the area that it's a hard contest. This restaurant feels like you're going back in time, as the hotel around you dates back to the 1800s. It's a classic spot, good for brunch, and if you can snag a seat on the veranda that's the best spot in the house. Inside is a bit quieter, the bar seating has a dark, man-cave feel, meanwhile the main dining room is a bit more eloquent. I wish they would have a suggested attire, if I'm being honest. It's such a shame to see people in sweatpants in such a lovely historic spot. The food was good, not anything to rant and rave over, but solid and good. The service was a bit frazzled (it was an event weekend) and they couldn't edit the menu at all. Which was a tad weird, but I get it. Although the food is more of a good/OK in my book, the prices are great so I am not going to complain at all. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

Located in the picturesque Lakeside Inn, the beauclaire offers beautiful views of the lake and d beautiful scenery- especially while dining on the veranda. My fiancé and I were seated promptly, given menus and waters right away. I had a glass of Riesling and he enjoyed a woodchuck cider. For an appetizer we split the cesar salad. The portion was a great size and the salad was nicely dressed. I had the salmon for my entree. The fish itself was cooked well with decent flavor. However, the risotto lacked flavor and the asparagus were undercooked with little seasoning. My fiancé had the brisket and it was delicious! I had a serious case of food envy. The meat was fantastic, the hash brown casserole it came with was great and the brussel sprouts with bacon were excellent. Our server was awesome and made sure to check in on us often and got us anything we needed. I would give this place a 5 for service and a 3 for food, evening out to a solid 4 stars. read more

We were in town for a wedding and this little area is so cute that we wanted to come back and explore the next day. It was early morning so we wanted to get breakfast first. This place definitely has that historic feel. There's even a house across that's said to be haunted. It's really big inside. We were greeted immediately and taken to a table. My first thought was, the floor is dirty. There were crumbs everywhere. We were the only ones in the dining area. The table clothes are very wrinkled. First impressions are everything and I would have expected a place like this to be more presentable. Looking over the menu there weren't many options to choose from. I ordered scrambled eggs with potatoes and sausage. In my opinion the food is over priced. It was $17 for my plate. The food was "okay" but for the price I'd expect better quality and flavor. Nothing was seasoned, the potatoes tasted like they were reheated and the biscuit was hard as a rock. My mom ordered pancakes and that was $14! And did not come with anything else. Our waitress was nice. If we visit here again, I personally would not come back here to eat. read more

We show up for an 11:30 reservation and after waiting for 15 minutes are told it's at least an hour before we can be seated. What is the point of even having a reservation. I would give this place zero stars if Yelp would let me. They have inside and outside seating. They had a total of four tables sat, maybe 12 people at the most. We ate breakfast because we were staying at the Lakeside Inn and had $20 dining cash. It's a fine dining atmosphere in oart if their banquet room. The windows and view were pleasant. Not crazy that I felt like I was at a wedding. Staff was very attentive. The food was very good. Grits were homemade and extremely good! Bacon was thick and good. The pancakes were ok. A little dry and not as fluffy as I like. But overall a pleasant experience in the morning. We would have eaten on the patio at The Verandah but it was too cold outside. read more

We didn't have much time for Christmas so decided to spend it at the Lakeside Inn and saw that they had a special for the Beauclaire Dining Room for Christmas eve dinner so made reservations. Our reservations were for 7:15 on Christmas eve and arrived a few minutes early. Got seated promptly and the staff was very nice. Our waiter Muhammad was excellent, enjoyed speaking with him and totally accommodating. The salmon starter was excellent and expected that would be the way the rest of the evening would go but nope. We ordered lamb chops and the swordfish. The lamb was good but the swordfish was extremely FISHY smelling and tasting and if you've ever had bad fish, you know exactly what we mean. Thought I could work my way thru it so ate it, forcing it down and spent the whole night trying to keep it down, that was tough. Christmas eve was not a fun time. I do admit I should have sent it back, but staff was nice and thought maybe I was being picky, but was just bad fish. We ended up spending over $250 for 2 people and think for that cost at this supposedly classy place, we should have received stellar food. Appeared under staffed as well as we arrived at 7:15 and didn't get out until 9:30, 2 hours and 15 minutes! Crazy for a dinner for 2 people with a limited menu selection. Also, we ate two breakfasts there but only because we got $10 off vouchers when we checked in. Portions were small and although the eggs Benedicts were good, the other mains were disappointing. Both days the potatoes were under cooked. We also had drinks at the bar one evening and had to point out the bottles for the bartender to make our drinks with. We also should have carried fireworks to catch his attention to get our check once we were done so we could leave. Also, phone app showed it was closing in on 90dB in there, couldn't hear ourselves think. Over all we liked the Lakeside Inn but we'll dine and drink elsewhere next time we're in town. read more

We had breakfast here this morning, and to be honest it was just OK. We arrived about 9:45, and after we seated it took the server several minutes to greet our table. Once she arrived, she informed us we only had 4 minutes left to order breakfast. Since we had never been there before, we hurriedly looked through the menu and made our selections. I feel like 10 is still early to cut off breakfast, but oh well. I got coffee, and it was not very good. After we ordered, it took almost 30 minutes to get our food. It was not very busy, so I'm not sure what held up our meals. The actually food was good though (I got the eggs Benedict) so I didn't hate the experience. We were just disappointed because after eating there, we stumbled across so many cute breakfast places that I think would've been better options. Our table also had a lot of crumbs on it when we were seated... Would probably recommend another breakfast restaurant in the area if you only have a day or two to spend here. read more

So let me start out by saying how we were looking forward to staying at Lakeside Inn. We love historic hotels and we knew what to expect. But we did expect the restaurant on site to be 5 star and we were so disappointed. Where to begin, they have 4 places to eat but it's all the same menu and kitchen. We had dinner there last night.... brisket for me , potato crusted salmon for her , with a brie appetizer. The good... Nice serving size. The bad.... Everything else. This is not fine dining and the waite staff needs to be taught how to serve food..... Reaching across and over people. Asked for lemon for water and it was brought on a paper napkin and left on the table. No plate. The brie didn't seem like it was baked.... Was expecting a gooey, melty mess. It wasn't. The brisket ,was plentiful, but I think they reheated it in microwave....bland taste. Our vegetables, brussel sprouts and asparagus , were hard as a rock... The salmon and risotto, were just tasteless. We are enjoying our stay but won't be eating there the remainder of it. read more

The waitress came a couple minutes later, took our drink order and returned a few minutes later with our drinks and we ordered our lunch. So far, so good. We never saw her again. We noticed we never received silverware or napkins. We saw no one to ask. Our food arrived and the runner called out the meals and delivered them. We asked for set ups and several minutes later, they arrived. We should've used that time to inspect our food. My guest and I each took a bit of our sandwiches, only to find that we were given each other's. I ordered a chicken sandwich, and she a fish sandwich. We weren't going to switch back because we had already started eating them, but switched the non started halves. We would've mentioned this, if anyone had come to check on us or refill our drinks. What a picturesque place to have lunch. There were several options for seating, two inside and the patio. Inside there was a cool older bar area, but it was rather dark for lunch - great for relaxed nighttime drinks. The dining room was behind it, with tall windows extending across an entire half of the room to reveal elegant palm trees. It was a quiet atmosphere, a few scattered elder couples and a low hum of conversation. We didn't want to disturb, so we chose the patio. The patio had a fantastic view of the lake, just calm and lovely. Our server was prompt with the iced teas and water (served in wine glasses - nice touch). Our food took a little bit to get there, which could have been due to the building amount of guests or just due to my "hunger perception". However, once it arrived, my gosh. I ordered a chicken club that honest-to-God was the BEST sandwich I have ever had. The bread was soft and the ingredients were fresh and soaked in flavor. I have to pause just thinking about it. My friend had a Monte Cristo (?) which he absolutely devoured. If the view isn't enough to entice you, an appreciation for good food should. read more

We wanted to love this place. It's in a beautiful historic hotel. First, no Hostess at the seating station. We stood around for about 10 minutes, but nothing, so we headed over to the front desk and asked where the restaurant was. The staff directed down the hall behind the bar, which was beautiful . We stand in the doorway of the restaurant and nothing. Finally the restaurant/ bar manager comes up and we ask about seating. She directs us to the Hostess out front and we tell her there was no one there. She takes us back up front and..no one there. She goes looking for the MIA Hostess and finally comes back and says she will seat us. Finally get a table by the beautiful courtyard and we wait for about 15 minutes. There were only 4 out of about 10 tables occupied. We finally get the attention of our young waitress and she apologizes takes our order. Food arrives about 20 minutes later, but no napkins or silverware so our waitress says she'll be right back with some. 10 minutes later we have to get her attention again and remind her. She apologizes and says she'll be right back. 5 minutes later she's finally back with silverware and says she'll come back to refill drinks. The food was delicious, but the drinks were never refilled and needless to say the tip paralleled the service. Zero! Too bad because it's a beautiful place and the food is really good. Unprofessional staff with no respect for elders, now they are running out of items in the menu. I used to go there every other day so I know how bad it got over the past year, Michele the manager is handling this restaurant very poorly. No food presentation whatsoever and every time you complain with good fundamentals they give you a free desert like that makes it ok to ruin your time with family and friends! This is for lunch in the off-season on the Veranda. Excellent sandwiches (2 different versions of a Club Sandwich), excellent Cesar side salad, fries only average. Very good prices, and service was very friendly and efficient (Ashton I think). I've read the other reviews, this time the food was good. But the service was horrible! The waitress poured the first glass allowing no taste test. She served the second and third glass first then foisted the cork-debris laden glass on the third person. I don't know how the cork got in there as she didn't butcher the cork. She got a replacement glass from the bar for a pour from a different bottle at the bar to replace the one glass. ??? Asked for water which was delivered at the end of the meal. Service extremely slow. Desert for mom came out as we asked for the bill, even after we cancelled the order for it's tardiness. The view at the veranda was great. We used the rear handicap entrance and the building is grossly falling apart. Entered the dining room looking for waitstaff and the smell of a dirty, greasy kitchen was overwhelming. Should have left then. No waitstaff in site. This place is cutting corners to stay in business and I think they are already sunk. The shortcuts could be dangerous to ones health. What the Inn offers in charm and location, it lacks heavily in service. There is no hostess or anyone to seat you so you either have to go looking or stand awkwardly in the middle of the dining room until a member of the waitstaff acknowledges you. There is no one assigned to bus the tables, so it takes several minutes and several waitresses to turn over a table - again you are waiting in the middle of the dining room staring awkwardly at the other diners...and waiting.
