Thank God good old school breakfast, scrambled eggs, wonderful piece of country ham, some home fries done on the grill and a grilled English muffin with a glass of sweet tea. Nothing better in Florida. Found it due to some gentleman I was talking to at an estate sale. Said that was the best breakfast in Mount Dora and I've eaten them outdoor before. We've found another great breakfast spot and it was worth the drive to Mount Dora. I heard about this place on the radio and decided to give it a try. They have all the breakfast items you can imagine and a whole bunch of lunch and dinner options as well. Their menu continues to expand. We, of course, went for breakfast and had our choice of eggs and bacon and grits and pancakes ... but what stood out for me was the biscuits and gravy and the SOS. If you don't know what SOS stands for, look it up... it's a great breakfast item. The SOS is not the same as the biscuits and sausage gravy because that is sausage gravy, the SOS has chipped beef in gravy and usually will come on toast, but I prefer it with the biscuits. I asked for my eggs over easy and they were just right. The side of grits comes in a small bowl which is a good portion for one person and the pancakes were humongous - a very good size for two pancakes and golden brown... I ended up sharing with my wife. We were very happy with the service that they gave us and one of the managers came around to see if everything was good or if we needed anything and we really appreciated that. This is a very down to earth place where it feels like home. It's a great place to bring the family, and we did see a lot of people with their kids, but, we also saw couples like myself and my wife sharing some good coffee or sweet tea and loving life. Perspective: I recently paid $14 for Avocado Toast. That's toast with some avocado and EVOO on it. For almost $4 LESS, I got the Breakfast Combo pictured here (not including the OJ). Like I said...perspective. Those in the know in Mt. Dora have been to Dora Cafe, a charming old-school cafe serving as much friendly service as yummy good. Mad respect for the sweet staff onsite, quick to smile and welcome you in while you wait just a few minutes to be served tasty food. Simple, good food - that's what's up here. Also, a very interesting variety of plates - simple breakfast combos, teriyaki, Cuban sandwiches, Shepard's Pie, gyros, and chicken livers! What?! Swear to God! Open from 6a-2p every day. Definitely get in on the breakfast combo - yummy hash browns and they even have sausage links AND patties! C'mon...now you're just showing off. You can easily pass by this local spot and dismiss it as another American diner. When you walk in, there's the first surprise that it's not just American food - it's hibachi, French, German, and way more! Next surprise is that the food is amazing, at a great price. Was in the area for work and decided to grab some breakfast/ brunch. With a quick Yelp search showed a ton of options. With Dora cafe being only one I saw with all 5 stars! With breakfast places being a dime a dozen this one actually had plenty of parking. Being a busy Saturday morning the sitting area is actually pretty big allowing for easy seating. Menu was big and had lots of selection almost went with a sandwich, or pasta option. but stuck with the breakfast option. My fiancé goes here all the time for breakfast while he's working and finally took me on Sunday. We found 2 seats quickly at the counter when we arrived and we're greeted promptly by our server. We both ordered the bacon breakfast burrito with added onion and tomato with breakfast potatoes. OMG it was delicious. The eggs in the burrito we're scrambled perfectly and when the salsa it comes with was added it was so good! They're coffee wasn't half bad either. Small town vibe located just outside downtown Mount Dora. Lots of locals who seem to to one another by name. All the staple breakfast diner items but the food was unexpectedly delicious and fresh. I had the bacon and cheddar quiche and it came with a salad and fresh ripe fruit. Nothing spectacular about the salad but it was a nice touch to the plate and made me feel like I was eating somewhat healthy. I tried a bite of my boyfriends hash browns (so good) and food came out fast. Our waitress who had a full house of people to tend to, gave exceptional service and she was very friendly. This was a very hole in the wall kind of place. Which I love. This one did not disappoint. When it came to foods, my partner and I ordered fairly basic things. For me, Egg & Cheese on a bagel. Adding lettuce, tomato's and pickles. While Renee had a veggie omelette with a side of cheese grits. Everything came out quickly and tasted good. Simple flavors, but who says simple isn't good. Only thing I would criticize, the bagel wasn't toasted. Negating the mismatch taste issue of something cold & hot, they asked if I wanted the bagel toasted. Speaking about the service, they were kind of dismissive. We had one server at the beginning, then another one took over. Completely understandable if the first one was off shift, but they were just seeing other tables. As the meal progressed, we were not asked for a refill of our drinks once. At first thinking, maybe that is consistent. Nope! When I finally did get someone, which took some effort, they dispassionately brought my water. I should also note, no one was wearing a mask. No sign out front nor staff. While this is a conservative area and I hope I'm wrong, but as soon as I started holding my partner's hands from across the table, service changed. I'm not sure I would come back. But, who knows what the future will be. read more

Best brunch in the greater Mount Dora - Eustis - Umatilla quadrangle by far. Extremely cheap, great portion sizes, and even early bird specials. Seating is limited because it's a diner. Service from every staff member was great. Directly across from it is a donut shop in case you want to bring home something else, too. Double check the location using your GPS. Right now Yelp has it located in Downtown Mount Dora when that's not the case. read more

I've lived here 6 mths now and finally made my way to this busy cafe for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The place was packed and had two open tables which we slid into one near the entrance. Our server Sheila was friendly and greeted us as soon as she saw us and took our drink order right away. After looking over the menu, I went with the Southern Style special for $6.25 which I is crazy reasonable! It's two eggs, half order of biscuits and gravy with your choice of starch. Hubs ordered the Sunrise Special for $8.95... a lot of food if you're hungry! So to explain my rating of a solid 4 stars... the biscuits and gravy aren't homemade and tasted average imo. Not awful by any means, but not very "sausage-y". Biscuits were perfect circle... from a cylinder. Hubs said his food was good ... what you'd expect. I will say however, both of our eggs were cooked perfectly to order. Nice job to the cook. Overall, our visit was friendly due to our good server. The bathrooms are less than desirable. I have been going here for years!! I live in Volusia County and every chance I get I head here. I have eaten here hundreds of times and ONLY had the teriyaki. I just can't get away from it. It is the best thing on the menu! Employees are always friendly and efficient. Be sure to use the white sauce on the teriyaki. My hubby's favorite. Meatloaf n mashed potatoes, goulash, beef n rice...the staples of a man's stomach. Salad is extra as anything else to complete a lunch meal. My choice is their breakfast! Biscuits n gravy are okay but their breakfast burrito is great! Eggs, toast and potatoes are a standard but fill the void. Coffee isn't anything to write home about but it gets the blood flowing. Little diner with throwback diner furniture, diner stools and counter, down to earth service and great owners. The menu is eclectic to say the least, but it is all good food. We had breakfast here in a group of eight people. Our breakfasts start at 9:00 on Sundays before restaurants get really busy, but the Dora Cafe was jumping when we got there, had a lull, and was busy again by the time our group left. They found room for us pretty quickly. The food was excellent and our server handled our separate checks with aplomb. I had the veggie omelette, which was great. The biscuit was also very good and the home fries were perfect, browned a bit on the outside and tender inside. Everyone else seemed to be happy with their orders also. We will definitely add the Dora cafe to the rotation of breakfast cafes our group meets at. read more
