Driving back to Georgia after a visit to the mouse and wanting to limit our exposure to the I-4 traffic, we drove through the charming town of Mount Dora. There are lots of delightful restaurants there (according to yelpers) but many were located downtown and parking was hard to find so we decided to go to Fifth Avenue Streatery since we had driven by and there was lots of parking. All of which the tables are outside on a charming patio with lots of interesting decor. It was 11:30 so the day was pleasant and sitting outside was fine. Not sure how I would feel about that in August. Our waitress was Haley (guessing at the spelling) and she was bubbly and very attentive. The menu wasn't overwhelming and I always think that's a good sign that most of the food is being prepared fresh and not pulled from a freezer. My mom ordered the fish sandwich with tomato and cucumber salad. After ordering the Italian Haley said they were out of beef until the owner arrived so I went for the day's special which was a seafood basket: two pieces of fried fish, four huge shrimp and clam strips. Clam strips are not my favorite but these were very crisp and tasty. It was served with fries and cold slaw. We both agreed the food was very good. I asked for some cocktail sauce and after a few minutes she came back with saying she had to make some. It was fantastic, very horseradish forward which I loved. Another unique eatery in Mount Dora! It's a converted gas station where you sit out in the old pump area. The food was really good. My husband was not convinced that the fish wasn't frozen fish but it tasted good. The Mount Dora burger is so good but very heavy - definitely shareable. The Crabbie Burger was delicious and exactly the kind of flavor you hope to find in Florida. The onion ring portion was perfect, and the fried goat cheese on my burger was tasty, although it was a little too hot when I first bit into it. Our waitress was super nice and extremely attentive, which made the experience even better. I just wish the chairs were more comfortable and the bathroom was in better shape. Had lunch here today! Prices were a bit high; $11 for a hot dog seems a bit much. The menu is American with your typical burgers, salads, and sandwiches. They make their dressing in-house, and everything we had was good. I wasn't a fan of my fish sandwich coming on what looked like a hot dog bun. Anytime of the year is the perfect time to try this spot out! They only have outdoor dining but you can see by the fire lamps and fans that they do use all effort to make your experience comfortable! The server we had (I feel bad I don't remember her name) was the absolute sweetest and made sure to take great care of my friend and I :) I had the Asian shrimp tacos which were good, while my friend had the California chicken which she enjoyed as well! Big shout-out to the lovely Rhiley - a friendly, competent server who deserves to be recognized as much as the delicious food here. The Mount Dora Burger is absolutely the way to go! I am a sucker for goat cheese and this big, beautiful burger has a lovely medallion right on top. Served with fries, this is one of the best burgers I've had in years. The weather was perfect outside when we went. I love the fact that it's an old gas station converted to a restaurant. There is no inside seating in case that's a deal breaker for you. The staff was very friendly. I for to take pictures of everything but did get some things. The fried deviled eggs were just ok, not bad, not great. The fried green tomatoes were ok as well, but the dipping sauce was sooo freaking good. The onion rings with cheese sauce were really good. I got a side salad with my Mediterranean steak and it came with house made lemon Greek vinaigrette and it was absolutely delicious. 5 stars for a substantial mahi mahi sandwich with fries for only $14! The portion size is so great and perfect to share. It comes on a long baguette, red onion and lettuce. We ordered it blackened but you can also get grilled or fried. Service was super fast, we ordered and received it within 10 minutes. The fish was perfectly flakey and fresh. This renovated gas station is somewhere you might pass by without paying much attention, but it's a true gem. Dining is completely outdoor, mostly under the former pump roof. Service was the best we've had in a long time. Food was incredible. Deep fried deviled eggs were so delicious. My chicken taco bowl was also great. Coke products but no Coke Zero. My husband ate the whole thing in one sitting. The shrimp with that sauce on the rice was FIRE!!! Huge portion too! And for the kid he got a regular burger but it was juicy and the bread was grilled. On the December Sunday that we dined here it was cool and they had the heaters on, there are also umbrellas for warm sunny days. I had the Mount Dora burger, which has fried goat cheese, bacon, onion, jam, and a pesto sauce, $14.99. It was delicious. They were quite busy and were also doing takeout orders. The staff was friendly and remained busy serving diners. Our drinks never got too low before they were refilled. I opted for the cucumber, tomato salad as my side, and my friend chose the bacon potato salad. We saw many onion rings being served, I would select those next time. They have daily specials They opened in 2019 and I am so glad they survived the pandemic. They are closed on Tuesdays.
