Family owned restaurant with super nice fellas behind counter. Make a few good suggestions that were spot on as to what we like. Food was really good! Stopped in while traveling through. Was in the mood for bbq & yelped. Ordered 3/4 slab & son ordered sampler. Ribs were over grilled to the point that they were black and crunchy at the ends. The middle halves were like beef jerky. Asked the chef/cook if they were intentionally cooked that way and told me yes and offered me more. A very nice guy but I passed. Cole slaw was very good. French fries ok. Son's ribs were a bit less cooked, chicken leg & thigh were good, brisket was not exciting. Son did enjoy the pulled pork... even took some to go. Bottom line? I don't like to disagree as I usually love the restaurants my boyfriend introduces me to, but this definitely isn't my type of BBQ. Way too vinegary and everything falls apart. The bread was old and stale, there was very little meat in my pulled pork sandwich so all you taste is the horridly acidic sauce. The people are very nice though, but in despair they talk about how their town became so poor after 2008, so customers who feel bad mask it by giving them a good review even though the food is terrible. Honestly, they should or someone else could revamp by doing a much better BBQ joint to attract more people to their city. If it became flavourful and upbeat, customers would be lining up no matter how far it is. Clearly the restaurant is completely empty because the food has no appeal to people of good taste. read more

Awesome BBQ! The ribs are good, but so is the pulled pork. They put a little slaw on them, which got me hooked on doing this everywhere. It's just a small operation in an old fast food restaurant, but the BBQ is worth going out of the way for. I live over an hour away, and I intend on making an excuse! read more

I ordered the 1/2lb brisket, mac'n cheese and baked beans. The brisket was chewy to the point it was a bit rubbery. Texture was similar to reheated food that had been in the microwave too long. The mac'n cheese was similar but event worse. Dry, rubbery, not cheesy at all. The employees all park in the front row closest to the door...what kind of customer service is that? Very good BBQ. I do a lot of smoking, and grilling myself and visit BBQ restaurants all over the country. The ribs I ate for lunch today were meaty and delicious. Excellent smoke flavor, seasoning and tenderness! Too often ribs are mostly bone, not at Beaugards. There was plenty of meat on these bones! The BBQ beans side must be their own recipe; they were also very good with plenty of pork meat for added flavor. Atmosphere was a little humble but often that is the case for out-of-the-way establishments. Looks like a place on their way to great success if they can maintain consistency and quality. Stopped in on a Saturday. They were out of chicken and almost out of brisket. We were told they normally do all of the cooking on Monday or Tuesday so apparently any day after that you get reheated BBQ. So ours was apparently 4-5 days old. The server was very nice and the restaurant seemed clean. However, as soon as you order you start hearing the roaring and beeping of the microwave. The brisket is served cut up in small squares like dog food. The chicken wings looked under done. The macaroni and cheese looks like boxed. I'm a hard critic for bbq being a truck driver that has had every southern bbq place that's creditable. These guys are good. I like a thick sauce and theirs is watery thin but it's good. I've never had shredded brisket but I liked it. My question is how do they smoke? I couldn't smell it anywhere outside at all but you can taste it. I wonder if it's liquid smoke. The service was very poor the last time there! It seemed that the High Schooler who waited on me had an attitude about elderly customers and ignored the fact I used a cane. He demanded I come to counter to order and was very rude and offensive when I confronted him about his attitude. The owner stepped in and I gathered it was his son. In Wilmington for business, and the area's Yelp reviews are lacking, at best. Beaugard's seemed to have the highest reviews so went there for dinner. First thing I noticed - prices are cheap! So a bit skeptical of what to expect, since you usually get what you pay for. Ordered the special, a pulled porked sandwich, tots, and a drink. Ordered mac and cheese as well. I drank about six glasses of sweet iced tea (not as sweet as the dirty south, but perfect in my opinion). I was asked how I wanted the meat - hot, medium or mild. I chose hot - it's got a slight kick, but it's not hot, but it was still very good. And since I'm all about the value, I thought it was a bargain. On the way out I ordered a 1lb of brisket to go. Only $9. It was tasty as well, but it came chopped - I was expecting slices. I'd go back again. And there was about 8 townies in the place who seemed to be enjoying themselves. read more

Terrific experience on our first visit! I had the pulled pork special with fries and BBQ baked beans and a sweet tea to drink. Everything was tasted great, the beans were amazing and the pork is melt in your mouth. I do suggest medium sauce, I ordered the mild and my wife ordered the medium so we could compare. On top of the delicious food and sweet tea the owner came out and personally checked on every table. He was very friendly and gracious to every customer in the restaurant and we can't wait to go back. Before we were finished dining my wife decided we would be back and she would try the chicken and I would try the brisket, although the owner recommended the ribs. Very good brisket. Got the 1/2 pound (?) sandwich, spicy. It had great flavor, although the "spicy" is about a 6 out of 10 on the heat scale. The beans were real good, might not have been made in-house, but had some meat in them and a bit of spice. The cole slaw was nice also. The side portions are small, I should have tried a few more.
