I was a client for a good 3 sessions then an emergency happened and I had to reschedule. 2 days later I came in for my reschedule appt only to be told I would have to pay for the session I did not attend. I can understand this rule if it was coveted to me when I initiated cancelling or even prior to me becoming a customer but for me to get in the chair and be told I must cover ($150 for loc maintenance) a missed session I called in advance to cancel because of a family emergency was disappointing. I paid and left for the current session and left. You can't possibly need need money that bad you push off a returning paid customer. Tried to reschedule and was denied services. Bad business and terrible customer service for what would have been a loyal customer for years. I will stir my associates away from Mora Bey and her loc services. read more

I am very picky about my locs. I started them myself and I don't like other people touching them or twisting them unless they do it just right. I have to say that I was a little worried when Moraa said she has a "special method" for locking, because I'm very protective. But I will come here every time I feel too lazy to twist my own hair. She returned my phone call quickly, scheduled me quickly (like had an ASAP appointment available!) In the past year my fiance' and I have found there is 1 other loktician that provides hair services similar to Moraa's. By coincidence this Loktician happened to be my future hubbys lifelong friend (see my review for Nyansapo Wisom Knot) and she had been keeping his loks well kept up until about a month ago. That would be fine and he could wait under any other circumstances but as our wedding is this Saturday he will be looking forward to re-visting the comfort of Moraas shop. She is the proper lady for the job as she has a very careful eye for detail and her knowledge of locking is so extensive. Moraa has got some serious skills. I got loc extensions from Moraa almost 4 years ago. None of them have fallen out and my natural hair has grown beautifully with them. I like to play with color and her locking technique even stands up to the coloring processes my colorist puts them through. I hope those of you reading believe the "positive" 5 star rated comments versus the one negative comment written by someone who apparently hasn't been happy with any experience she's had from local business. From my experience, Moraa NEVER does anyones hair without a consultation and a test of her method on the clients hair before hand to determine if they like the method. She's very clear this is a different method from twisting, and I personally love the method !!! My hair no longer thins from the constant twisting, I can wash and go as soon as I leave the chair, and she is one of the fastest locticians I know. So I'm not clear how one could be misled. I have tried locking my hair several times over the past twenty years with little success. Parts of my hair just don't take to traditional twisting and I never liked having to use oils or other products to make the locks hold. After spending a really nice morning with Moraa I have a head of locks that have taken hold without any products and almost no maintenance. I've never been this happy with my hair. I made an appointment fairly short notice for my sister. I was asked to come in at 2pm for a consultation. When we arrived we waited outside on the street for about 15mins. I called the shop 3 or 4 times. I could hear the phone ringing inside but no answer. As we decide to leave someone comes out and let's us know that the stylist was actually not in the shop and would return shortly. She was nice and let us in. We removed our shoes in the doorway and sat down in the living room or "waiting area". The salon us in a room off the living room. About 2:30-2:45 the stylist arrived and conducted the consultation. We made an appoint for the next day. She did a great job on my sisters dreds. I don't prefer to have my hair done in someone's home but I respect the small business owner. That being said you have to respect customers as well. If your going to have a salon in your home then your home should be clean and neat like a customer would expect a business to be. read more

Were should I start...... Moraa is a gifted healer of the hair and the heart. I enjoyed my appointment with her and felt as if I was having lunch with an old friend. I was so happy to have met her and have my hair and soul nourished. She took her time with an attention to detail that I don't usually find with other hair caregivers. The method is very different then I was used to but the results were fantastic and long lasting. I got caught up with the flow of life and neglected to leave a review at my first appointment and happily have another appointment set for this evening. I'm looking forward to putting my locks in her loving and gentle hands and feeling renewed, beautiful and transformed upon leaving. Morraa does an excellent job. I have had my hair comb twisted / palm rolled for about 3 years. I had to find a new shop I came across her website while doing an internet search and gave her a call to set up a consultation. She promptly returned my call and I had an appointment scheduled for the next day. Parking was easy to find her studio is very clean beautiful bay windows with lots of sunlight and even had some calming music playing. I love her method because I can work out and not worry about my hair getting frizzy also washing my hair wasn't a hassle either no loose/frizzy hair like I had with the twisting/palm rolling method. My hair stayed nice and clean looking for at least a month and a half. and that was after working out and daily hair washes I was amazed. I was looking for someone to wash and retwist my locks. I had a bad experience at Nappy or Not and was excited to find another hairdresser that specializes in natural hair. I relied on all the positive reviews. I honestly, had a TERRIBLE experience. Moraa doesn't twist hair and that is a serious problem. Her "alternative" technique is more like making slip knots, it creates knots in your hair that affect future retwisting and has made my consequent retwists far more difficult. She also took about 3 times as long as I usually do, retwisting and washing my hair. And the cost, was just astronomical. She charges for the time that she spends on her clients, but it is as slow as it is because of her inefficient approach to handling locks. Stay away from this woman!!! She's very nice and I don't mean to ruin her business but what she did to my hair was AWEFUL and the only thing worse than that is that I had to pay for her to mess up my natural locks.. read more
