This was my first time at Restoration Hair. And I came in needing some shape to my outgrown bleach blonde mess. My color had faded, my last hairdresser did not do a good cut and my hair was shapeless. I was referred to Colleen, the owner/hairdresser, by a close friend ...and took the leap to a new do! And I got a phenomenal Restoration! Colleen is a color specialist. I am chemically sensitive and asked for adherence to minimal chemicals. She totally complied and used some Joico products to weave all new blonde highlights and even a few lo lights. It's a beautiful blend , soft and bright and natural looking ! I Love it ! And then she totally recut my do. She did a masterful haircut that is so complimentary to my facial structure. I am getting rave reviews from friends and even strangers! I'm not going to slander or bash Colleen, she's a gal struggling with life like the rest of us. Our last appointment she canceled via text about 1/2 hour before stating her mom was sick. No offer to reschedule, no offer of apology for the late notice, nothing. At that point I didn't try to reschedule at a later date, her message was received, she didn't want my business. Also my hair is thick and wavy (can tend towards frizzy), can be hard to manage.I tried three places before hitting on Colleen. The first two were just OK, seemed to be going through the motions, bored. The third gave me the worst haircut of my life. Colleen gave me a really great cut! I went online to make an appointment for my 12 year old grandson. I heard about Restoration Hair from his 16 yr old brothers friend. I loved his cut and Liam needed one desperately. His hair was shaggy looking and while normally full, thick and wavy.....overgrown was not a good look. Alleyna called me within a short time to introduce herself. Who does that in todays lack if customer service? It was awesome. He doesn't trust most stylists as he's had some "oh no" moments. Alleyna listened to him, showed him pictures, asked questions. When she was done...he was smiling, he let her take pictures and was really excited about the cut. I expected the usual, "what did she do? I hate it, she didn't listen to me!" Not with Alleyna. Made an appointment based off recommendation. I sat in the chair for about an hour, asked for a mid-length wolf cut with as much references and explanation as I could, Specified I didn't want it too short or too look like a mullet. It does not look like a mullet, but it is so short that it really isn't a wolf cut at all. I mentioned half-way through that the length was good, but somehow it got way shorter after from which I thought was the texture cuts. It kinda is just your generic male cut, and it's pretty depressing because I had really high hopes. I unfortunately left with the opposite of what I wanted and now am stuck with something I just have to grow out and try again somewhere else. One of the stars is for the polite and friendliness. Colleen is a godsend for the curly haired girl on a budget! I just moved to the area about 5 months ago and desperately needed to find a new stylist as it had been almost a year since I'd had my haircut. Anyone with curly hair knows how scary it is to try to find a new stylist, especially leaving one you loved. Curly haircuts are pricey, but I was shocked by how much these curly salons were charging in the area. Every one of the salons I looked at forced first time clients to get a "consultation" appt which they charge $300-$350 for... I'm sorry, but I've been getting my haircut like this for over 10 years and I know how to style my hair. I don't need someone to tell me how to do that, I need someone to cut my hair. This just seems like a way to make you pay more money and I'm not down for it. I came across restoration hair and saw Colleen was charging $100 for a haircut, no BS consultation appt needed. It took her 45 minutes to cut and restyle my hair to perfection. No need to spend $350 and take 2.5hrs. She has been cutting curly hair a long time and has taught many of these girls over charging in the area everything they know. Colleen is a fierce woman who owns her own business and I'm more than happy to patronize her establishment. She also has killer taste in music, loved the Yeah Yeah Yeahs radio we were vibing on. I rarely write reviews, but this one is one that I wish had existed before I made an appointment here (in large part because all of this totalled $245 before tip). I scheduled a touch-up (we added a trim and blow dry as well) with Colleen after I could not manage to book the stylist that was recommended to me when mine moved out of state. Perhaps I set the tone poorly by saying I didn't have my formula because it was transferred to another stylist who was super booked, but I thought everything was fine as she powered through working on my hair. Ultimately the cut and blow dry were good and as other reviews mention she shapes hair really well. The color, however, was disappointing. She did not seem to put much into matching my current color other than to say "you like the red in it?" (there is no red in the touch up despite saying yes I did expect it to have red undertones). The color did not cover my grey and my skin was a mess afterwards. I had a full inch of dye stain along my forehead which she made no attempt to remove. It came off fine when I got home to make up wipes, but it was disappointing that she made no effort to tidy up the work. As for the price, I contacted the seller through square because my receipt was for two custom amounts ($175 and $70) which did not line up with the website at all nor did I understand where the additional $70 came from. She stated it was an accidental charge and she would process the refund through square. There was no refund from square so after a week I opened a dispute with my credit card to adjust the total and they were told by the seller that the charge was accurate despite three texts to me saying it was in error. Ultimately this was a nearly $300 lesson in being more assertive about messy work and questionable charges. read more

This woman can do anything! As an update to my last review . . . I was recommended by Julie at Halo to go to Colleen at Restoration Hair. Why? Because Colleen is the only stylist in the area that still does perms. So the first time I go, I'm nervous so, I only got a full highlight and cut - and Colleen did an exceptional job with both the cut and highlight - as good or better than I've gotten at the famous salons in San Francisco. (Yay! I'm blonde again and I don't have to drive to San Francisco!) I love, love, love this woman and am thrilled with her cut and color, so now, on my second visit, I tentatively ask if she perms hair. I'm thinking she'll say "no" just like every other stylist in town. But Colleen isn't like anyone else. She says of course she'll perm my hair. So we go through a long discussion about why I want a perm, and what my goals are. She really wants me to be happy, so she explains the various things she can do - including doing a root perm or volume lift. Wow! I had always wanted a perm for more volume, not necessarily for the curls. But NOBODY DOES ROOT PERMS! Colleen, bless her heart, gave me a root perm to give me volume. I'm thrilled with the results. I have a much fuller head of hair now! And I'm going back in two weeks for highlights. *Sigh*. I love this woman. I am new to Santa Rosa and called Colleen based on positive reviews. She said she charges $75.00 for a simple haircut. Her website states $65.00 and her booking site states $70.00. I booked online and arrived on time, despite the inadequate parking alley. Colleen was shampooing a client's hair and the two were enjoying a gossip rant. The salon is dark and the music is loud. Colleen did not introduce herself or welcome me. She was running behind and said I could sit on the couch (with her dog!) How long? "20 minutes" That seemed unlikely since her client/friend had just sat in the chair. I didn't have that much time to waste. Like other reviewers, I got a text about payment and as others have written, Colleen did not have the courtesy to contact me regarding her lateness. We are all busy at the holidays. That's no reason to be disrespectful. There are so many hair stylist in this town, don't waste your time on Restoration Hair. What an exercise in frustration! I booked an appointment with high hopes of getting a fabulous haircut based on the reviews I read here. This morning, the day of my appointment, I get a confirmation text that also said, "cash is preferred". I wish I knew that when I first booked so I could make sure I had cash on hand. I know it wasn't required, but I made a special trip to my bank to get cash, in support of this small business trying to due business during COVID. When I got to my appointment, a very gruff woman who I'm assuming was Colleen but I'm not sure, told me she was behind and I could either go find something to do or wait. Considering I took time off from work for my haircut at my appointed time, I couldn't wait. The considerate and respectful thing would have been to text me to let me know she was running behind. If she can text me to remind me about the appointment and that cash is preferred, texting to say she was running behind isn't asking too much in my opinion.
