This store routinely shuts down 30 mins early so I thought I'd be safe coming an hour early . They do provide plastic bags, but if you're picky like me and don't want it to be condensating, bring a cloth or paper bag to maximize the crispy bits. The bread is hand made and so it's thinner in the middle, and thicker on the outside rim. The outside is chewier compared to the crispy-wafer like interior. We also got the shish kabob, the shish tekka beef and shish tekka chicken. We also picked up a grilled fish. The kabob was very tender and juicy, with a charred outside, and the chicken tekka came by a close second as it was so juicy and flavorful. The tekka beef was a little gristly, but still very delicious. As the chef was pulling them off the skewers, he gave the meat a final sprinkle of seasonings. The meat came with two whole grilled tomatoes and three whole grilled small onions. I'm not sure how you're supposed to eat them since the onions still have their skins and roots attatched, while the tomatoes was very, very juicy. The fish was butterflied and grilled with similar spices added. It's still bone in, so nne careful while eating it! It was cooked perfectly.

The problem is that everything is somewhat to grossly overpriced. The local stuff sure - for example, I paid $2.50 a piece for Bev's Bagels (decent, nothing compared to mid tier NYC bagels but better than the vast majority of what you can find in southern Michigan). But for basic (or even foreign) goods it seems ridiculous to buy here instead of a normal grocery store or one of the myriad ethnic shops around. The real star is the cheese selection. They don't have much out, but they have a multi-page list of what they have in stock and they are both knowledgeable and generous with samples. I picked up a really interesting 12-year aged cheddar and tried a few others. There are always a couple of samples out but I've found them unexciting. They have an equally impressive list of meats but I haven't had the chance to explore those. Take the original (and super cool) elevator up to the second or third floors and you can find all kinds of knick knacks from lawn ornaments to Detroit gear. I'm not sure if it was a sale or not, but the last time I was there I picked up a decent quality t shirt for a mere $10. Cody helped me figure out some combinations to try. I bought a few bags of coffee and immediately had to have some as soon as I arrived home. I have a blend of 50% hazelnut and 50% chocolate and it's heavenly--it's my favorite coffee of all time! I also have a bag of half coconut and half caramel and wow! As you can tell, I like some sweetness and these blends were just my style. My mom is a serious coffee drinker and they recommended 80% French roast and 20% super dark roast. My mom loved it!!! They definitely have something for everyone and can match you with your perfect coffee blend. I bought several treats with nuts in it, like pistachios, and some chocolates too. Everything was delicious! There are opportunities to sample things throughout the store too. There are so many treats and products to choose from, and it's organized beautifully.
