I had Nikki as my hairstylist and I loved her! She was so friendly and sweet and made me feel so comfortable. She worked quickly and efficiently on everything, especially the haircut. It didn't feel like she cut off much hair or that much had changed until she dried and styled it that I saw how much better my hair looked. Took my grown out, messy hair to layers with nice face framing bangs. The layers helped my waves to start forming nicely again like she predicted. I scheduled an appointment on my only day for the next week and a half. I walk in and sit in the chair and she refuses to do my hair because it will take too long (I was scheduled for color/highlights) for reference I'm hair is a little pass my shoulders but my hair is fluffy when it's combed out because I have 4a hair. It's my birthday week so I was really disappointed. So if u have alot of curly hair I recommend not going here. If you are a guy, my advise would be to stop the Russian roulette of haircuts from Great Clips or SportsClips. Myself, I grew tired of these franchises' inconsistencies, turnovers, and mysterious scalp massage offers. Though a Beauty Brands might be a little costlier and seem more effeminate (in name and decor) than a SportsClips, these negatives are soundly trumped by Beauty Brands' consistently great haircuts and the ability to make appointments (and for the stylist to keep them!). For this Overland Park location, I would recommend Lindsay G. She cuts both my brother's shorter hair and my longer hair. The technicians were great that is what I will start with but that was the ONLY good thing about this pedicure. The room is not relaxing at all. It's loud and brightly lit. The chair massagers don't work so you are forced to sit straight up awkwardly without any way to move the large pokers stuck in your back. I have been coming here for years and seeing Beverly Nelson for many services. Her spa pedicures are more than just a once over on the toes. It's a relaxing massage that makes me feel like a new person when I leave. When waxing, whether my face or bikini area, she makes it very comfortable and not such a nuisance to have done. She knows the little tricks to make it less painful. Her facials are great as well. I have always been able to get in as soon as I need an appointment. So I was on a mission, and it sent me to Beauty Brands where I found the ENTIRE line of Bed Head, for reasonable prices (its not the cheapest stuff). I used to use this stuff back in my short hair days of my early twenties, and re-using it now makes me wonder why I ever stopped. Any ways, this post is about Beauty Brands, not an ad for Bed Head. The girl who helped me was really nice, also being a fan of the product, and she showed me what might work best on my new longer hair. I also decided to buy a rounding brush that might work on my new blunt ends. I noticed they carry make-up, glo-minerals, had a nail salon area, and face care (they had dermalogica, an amazing facial line). I'm always a fan of having all my favorite brands in one store (the less driving the better), and Beauty Brands is great for that. read more

Kelly does my cut and color and does a spectacular job! My color is different than my other stylist yet I like what Kelly does equally. The quality control here is terrible: one day you get a good stylist, the next day you get hooked up with someone who couldn't make the cut (har har) at Great Clips. Twice I've found someone I liked and they end up quitting so I can't even ask for them by name. I've tried asking the receptionist for recommendations for someone who knows how to style men's hair and both times they've just paired me with one of their male stylists as if men have some intrinsic sense how to cut another man's hair? I get my eyebrows waxed there by an esthetician - that has always been flawless in my opinion, and if I could remember her name off the top of my head, I would give her great props. Great service and very friendly from her. Its just awkward to walk in sometimes. Sometimes the people follow you around as if you are going to try and steal something, when all you are doing is just browsing, other times, its impossible to get anyone to even acknowledge you. The liter sale is definitely great (even though its gone up and up every year lately) - still a great buy, and will ALWAYS bring me back to stock up. I've been going to Beauty Brands for several years now after my independent stylist kept raising her rates on me even though I had been with her when she worked at a salon chain...anyway I've had two different stylists here- my old one went on to teach at one of the schools. I now go to Anna Claire who is awesome! She has great hair (one of the ways I judge my stylist) and is overall a terrific stylist. That being said, I feel like there are a lot of quality beauticians here and if I had to I know I could switch over to one of them. I've never had a bad haircut or color (knock on wood) at this location. In addition to hair services they offer a variety of others- pedi/mani, waxing, massage etc. I'm excited to see what their new expansion looks like :-) Pros- Great stylists Great customer service from everyone- no one has ever been rude or unhelpful (which is a standard expectation, but some businesses fail to meet this criteria). I am all about fast, easy and good. Not that I am fast and easy, but I like shopping and errands to be fast and easy. Beauty Brands is that fast, easy and good. I get my brows waxed here by Katy and she is d'bomb. She is a magician. She can tame these brows like no other. It is only $15 which I don't think is bad to pay for how much work she does on my brows. They are efficient and clean and know their products. I also get the express pedicures at this location and the one on 95th. It is the quick version of their longer one. The do a quick once over with the pumice stone and hit the heels and anywhere else needed. Do the nails and polish. In and Out in 30mins and it is only $29. The annual liter sale when it happens get in there and stock up. I go to the one on 95th for haircuts so that will be a different review at a later date. They carry almost everything you would need for hair, nails and skin care. If you haven't found a place I recommend Beauty Brands. Oh they take walk-ins but it is better to get an appointment. read more

Beauty Brands over in Overland Park is my exception to the rule on chain salons. Danielle treats me "oh so" good having been there only twice, I feel like a local. My stylist knows me and we're already planning a fun night on the town. Top that naysayers?! It's hard to find a great salon beyond the buzzcut for guys. As I say that, I actually did go for the buzz this time rather than a style. Perhaps a hint of irony here but this buzz was no ordinary lawnjobbie. Danielle knew how to contour the buzz effectively over my skull to make it look just right, going shorter on the sides for the right effect. After her explanation and the finished product, I felt like Beckham, only with auburn hair, cooler, and not as. . . well, you get the point. Prices at BB are still comparable to most, and I always love the smell of the back area. Scratch that, I love the smell of the entire joint. I probably could just loiter for an hour or so for my addiction. The appointment setter always is a breath of fresh air. The populated area does feel a little suffocating and not as intimate for a stranger to rub all over that scalp of yours. The smallness is something to be missed. Even still, I never feel like I'm in one of those "JC Penny" salons. You know what I'm talking about. read more

I went here last week for my first haircut and color since becoming a new mom last month. I was hoping for a relaxing afternoon of self care since I get no time to myself these days. While I got time to myself that is all I got from this visit, besides the worst haircut and color I have ever had in 20 years of getting my hair done. I can't believe the person I went to was supposed to be a master stylist. What a waste of 250 bucks. The stylist cut off 12 inches when I wanted 6 cut off without even confirming length before chopping and on top of that I showed her pictures of the color I was looking for and my color is nothing like anything I asked for. Went to get, what I believe to be, an easy simple cut that has texture and body. I'm always up for finding a new stylist, and have gotten my hair done by many different stylists, and done very well I might add, but this was a completely new experience for me. I come from a family of stylists and know how to ask for what I want. Leslie was my stylist, a "Senior Stylist" which denotes she knows what she's doing and has been doing it for years. I asked for smooth layers. They come out choppy. I asked for tapered ends. They're blunt. I asked her to thin my hair underneath on the crown. She thinned out the bottom by the nape of my neck. She spent not even 20 minutes on me before asking me if I was satisfied. After maybe 5 minutes of Leslie touching up she asked again if it was good. She was extremely rushed and uninterested in the work she was doing on me. After asking for more, and specifying what I wanted, I had enough of her rushed work I have never been more disappointed. read more
