Makenzie did an amazing job on my hair. I've had bad salon experiences so was nervous but she gave me exactly what I wanted.

This is NOT a good place for men who want salon-style service. The stylist was not experienced in men's cuts, the salon didn't have the right product (a very common one), and the results showed. At the end, I had to actually tell her to stop cutting it. If I didn't need a cut quickly, I would have definitely got up and left. Worst of all, the price was about double what I paid at my previous salon. Save your time and trouble guys and go elsewhere. read more

Best hair salon! Brenna is the best!!!! I went to her for the very first time, after breaking up with my ex hairstylist, and she got my hair 100% perfect the very first time! That has never happened in my entire life! She knew exactly what to do and she did exactly what I wanted and I walked out of there feeling so happy, more confident, and completely 100% satisfied! She is so experienced and so nice. I highly recommend her and I highly recommend this relaxing, serene salon. It is very low key, and the people are very kind. Olivia was amazing! I was in KC visiting family, and I made a spur of the moment decision to finally get my hair cut after 2 long years. She was able to fit me in last minute, and was understanding when I showed up a few mins late because I was unfamiliar with the location of the salon and my Google Maps took me to the wrong side of the building. She listened carefully to what I wanted done (a simple, no-fuss, wash and wear cut that would be easy for this mama of 5 to maintain lol), and she executed it beautifully!! I made sure to attempt to come to a reasonable accommodation for the experience that I had at the salon with the salon owner. But because we weren't able to come to a reasonable agreement, I thought it only appropriate for me to share my experience here. This salon does a very poor job at managing expectations when it comes to hair color appointments. My stylist, though she was friendly, did not properly reset my expectations when I showed pictures of what I was trying to achieve in the session time that we had available. It was indicated to me that I would be "substantially brighter" but all that was done was a root touch up, for $230. The salon owner took no personal responsibility, and was only willing to provide me with a toner when I requested that half of my money be reimbursed because of what little impact the $230 I spent had on my hair. I have attached pictures of before and after to showcase what little work was done to make me "substantially brighter". My advice? Don't come here if you are wanting to have clear communication and understanding and empathy You won't find it here. PS the first picture is before the second one is after. They're identical. Edit to add: My original review was 2 stars but I came to update it to one star for the following reason: I had to go spend another $200 with a different stylist who listened to my concerns and was able to provide me with my desired outcome, which the salon owner at salon one 19, Lisa, insisted would take 9 hours for us to do. And the stylist I went to was able to get me to my desired look in a matter of 2.5 hours-- the same amount of time the other stylist had to do my hair as presented on the pictures. If you would like a stylist who is willing to listen with empathy and perform her talents beautifully on your hair, then I recommend Meghan at 315 Westport Rd Kansas City. Their marketing team is clearly excellent because they managed to give me the impression that this place is higher-end than it actually was. It was claustrophobic and didn't even have any kind of a lobby or even chairs to sit and wait. I had been impressed (at first) that they called me to inform me that my stylist had an appointment run over and was going to be about 15 minutes behind and pointedly tried to reschedule me for another day entirely. I asked if I could just come in 15 minutes later and even wait longer as needed because I had no time conflicts. I had no problem with just waiting around (shopping nearby). However, it eventually became clear that my stylist was the one who had a problem with the fact that I was willing to wait for her, because she wanted to leave ASAP. Unfortunately, I hadn't known that I had the last appointment of the day. I should mention that the (basic) cut I got seems totally fine, so it definitely could have been worse! And that is arguably the most important thing. However, I have literally never in my life had a stylist who so obviously wanted to leave. She didn't even try to talk at all - I know some people don't like that but usually a stylist makes an attempt. The striking thing is that the second she was done, she literally didn't even say bye, she just went to the back room to get her purse and left, walking right past me out the door. Also, I would understand better if it was past closing time - it was still like 20 minutes before close (and again, not my fault that it was that late in the first place). As someone who is willing to pay for a decent experience (and paid what I have for much nicer ones), I will not be back. read more

I made an appointment for a French dip manicure for a special event. My nail tech told me she didn't know how to do it so i opted for a basic single color. She said they only do basic services for nails. Only regular or gel mostly since their clientele is older. She also said if she does any art on nails she charges $5 a nail extra. It took 2 hours for my manicure that was only a dip...the finish wasnt even. Then i get to the register and was told $75 please . Outrageous prices with low quality work that took 2 hours. Took my two kids (4 & 2) to get their hair cut. My son has thick hair for a 4 year old. I was specific with stylist I didn't want a "bowl cut" and that he had a cowlick so to leave that part longer. My son got a bad bowl cut. Stylist was nice enough but it's pretty difficult to correct a bowl cut. read more

I had no idea Salon 119 existed. I was confused when I followed the directions on my phone so to anyone interested that hasn't been yet, it is behind North. You sort of walk right into the salon almost like there is no waiting area. But there doesn't seem to be a need for one because everyone was being taken back right away. Big plus for me. Your appointment time is spot on. Bailey did my mani pedi, she was incredibly precise and truly cared. I had so many questions about my nail health and she answered them promptly. She helped me pick out colors as well. I left with a great mani pedi and a plan to get my nail health back. I also asked if they could get me in for an eyebrow wax at the same time. Elaina was able to see me. Again, someone so full of knowledge. She did a wonderful job with equal precise. This salon asks questions and listens to what you say. Truly a wonderful place. read more

I went to this salon for the first time and asked for a partial highlight and a trim off the ends. My hair is fine and about shoulder length, there isn't too much to work with. When I went to pay, the price was obscene!! Not at all close to the prices they show on the website. I was charged $190 dollars for a partial highlight/trim. I've paid less in the past for a full or balayage. Within this price, charged me for a haircut and style, all she did was take a trim off the end, and that took her about 3 min to do all together- $55. I feel incredibly ripped off. The color she used looked great, but when I got home to take a closer look at my highlights, they were really only focused around the crown of my head, she had missed MANY spots. I tried to contact the salon a few times but haven't been able to get ahold of anyone. Overall, pretty disappointed in this place and won't be returning. read more

Normally I have great experiences here but I was very disappointed in their customer care today. I was expecting a $160-ish partial highlight and cut and was charged over $205 due to the addition of a "glaze" that I never asked for and that the stylist didn't tell me upfront would cost anything. When I was alarmed by the final price, the front desk went back to further inquire on my behalf and returned saying the glaze (that I had not asked for or even known was a thing until the stylist told me she was adding it to my hair) was $40. I was shocked. That was nearly a 30% addition to the price I was expecting to pay and that I had not budgeted for. I had to have a very tense conversation afterward with my husband who was alarmed that I had unexpectedly spent so much on my hair (I was also alarmed). In the future, I hope all stylists will make a note to explain additional costs to clients upfront, especially if the stylists unilaterally decide to add pricey treatments without consulting the client beforehand. Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this salon, but I hope my review will lead to a more transparent business culture for future clients! read more

I have been a customer of Salon 119 for at least 15+ years. Even when my first stylist left for another Salon, I stayed with the Salon! The staff is very talented and listen to your needs. I especially love the congenial, yet quiet, professional environment. There is a maturity that feels like a warm family, rather than a frantic Disco. Beth does my hair. She always offers to make any [free] adjustments if I get home and don't like something. And Lisa, the owner, does mani-pedi. She turned my dry cracked nails into healthy natural nails. Deidre, at the front desk, has a smile that melts away any stress. We compare DWTW and Masked Singers. One caution [for the hurried] is they take their time with you. So don't make a rush appointment and expect a quick 30-minute turnaround. I can count on the stylist being ready for me within 15 minutes of my scheduled appointment. And I have never been rushed to squeeze in another last-minute client. Thank you! I'm letting my hair turn gray and grow long during Covid-19 but I continue to schedule some services. The Salon is doing an excellent job with Covid-19 precautions. I am in a sterile environment while in the Salon. Temperature check, masks required, six to eight feet between stations, plexiglass dividers between shampoo bowls and the pedicure bowls. Bad customer service. I left feeling humiliated while knowing it was ridiculous to feel bad? I could never recommend a place where personal judging begins @ the reception desk and ends with the hair care professionals. I purposely used plural. It was a collective environment. I was denied service when told there was nothing they could do with my unhealthy, damaged and over processed hair? I chose the Salon for their expertise in color and cut? It was crazy.... I walked out (generous tip for the evaluation) w/ my 1/4 gray growth bewildered. I actually believed I had no choice but to wait it out. Also advised the new growth wasn't healthy and possibly would never be able to get my doo.? I have been totally gray since the age 28. I have/had natural curly hair and at my current age (56) my curls are frizzy and I am premature losing hair. I was advised to talk with a Dr, to eat better or maybe I need hormone's ? I inherited the hair on my head from mom, and grandma. I have never bleached or had treatments other than color. I wish I could attach photos bcuz it wasn't until I got home and looked in the mirror that I realized I had just gone through a completely crazy experience! I went back to researching Salons and 3 days later I had a great new cut and color. Mirror Image in LS Mo. When I walked into Mirror Image it was night vs day to the 119th Salon! Let me just start by saying I have finally found my place. Mary is absolutely phenomenal. She took the time to really find out what I wanted and walked me through what she was doing step by step. She showed me exactly what she was doing and why (this was a MUST for me as I'm not good with hair at all!). She was patient and just all around amazing. I will definitely be coming back to her. DO NOT come here for a men's haircut or I guess if you're a lady with short hair. I have never in my life had a haircut with clippers done with my hair completely wet. The clippers were just skidding across my skin. I understand wanting to wash the person's hair but clippers are always done with dry hair. I also came into the salon just 30 mins after a shower (my hair was dry/clean coming in). The stylist also had me facing away from the mirror the ENTIRE time so I didn't get to see any progress until she was done/putting styling products in...straight anxiety...At the end of what she thought she had finished, I had to tell her to take inches off the top. I hate that I'm too nice because I told her i liked it at the end and even tipped. I went home and cut even more inches off the top. I literally do not understand where the disconnect between her and I was because I told her what I wanted done at the start. She should go back to hair school and get relicensed, and I should stop going to these weird salons that are greedy with their prices and don't produce great results. read more

I am EXTREMELY disappointed in this salon, my wife had been going there for years now and they lost a customer for life instead of keeping one. The story goes, my wife had called in and ask if she could get in before we left for our anniversary trip. They made time for her but said it would be a little tight because they had another client right after her. She went and told the woman cutting her hair EXACTLY what she wanted. Now this place is I'd say pretty pricey but I'm a guy so I'm used to spending $15 and this place averages between $100-$500. My wife went, had her hair done and time was running short.... she had it dyed and cut. The woman cutting her hair basically rushes my wife out the door with wet hair still because she wants that $$. My wife driving home calls me and says her hair looks AWFUL. Shes hysterical, she just cut her hair and the dye she did was complete crap... nothing like she asked! I told her... hey call up and explain that this kind of quality is not worth $200 bucks and you would like a refund. She calls the Salon, the owner gets on the phone and basically bullies my wife off the phone.... basically saying that it cant be true and that they won't do refunds and that it's like trying to return milk that you claim is bad but you just bought it.. So my wife calls me and shes just completely upset, now I'm upset because my wife has been a LOYAL customer who has spent thousands with this small business and is treated like that!?! Are you kidding me. I call and ask for the owner, shes busy and will call me back. She calls me back and I lay into her. I explain how can you compare sour milk to someones hair you just cut and who does that? She claimed she was doing my wife a favor.... to which I responded... mam.. how did you do my wife a favor of her hair was done half assed by one of your supposed hair experts? That she should have never been "fitted" into the schedule if you guys were overbooked and sent one of your customers out the door with wet hair. That you did her a disservice and now you lost a loyal customer. I explained what she should do is refund the full amount. She said she wont do it, okay that's fine... it's worth a shot. She said she can come in and get it fixed. I explained to her that, mam.... how would you feel if your hair got butchered and that a womans hair is apart of them, it's a piece of there personality and you want her to come back in and get it fixed? Do you realize how awkward that will be for her, that people are naturally not going to be confrontational and that its unreasonable to ask her to come back? I explained as a business owner you should never ever blame the customer, that this is a coaching moment for you and your team, that you need to have better practices regarding time and to never allow a customer to get there hair cut and walk away feeling the way my wife did. She said shes very sorry(now shes apologetic and sympathizing with me) that she can come in and they will fix it or get her a partial refund( which I highly doubt). I told my wife what the owner had said and told the owner that I'd let my wife know. I told my wife that I would go with her down to the salon to make sure she didnt feel pressured or treated unfairly but she was just at this point so over it and disappointed by the treatment she declined. So if your looking for a place as a woman to have your hair cut, choose wisely and make sure to not get "fitted" in or ushered out the door with wet hair because you will spend a ton here and the service may be shotty because money is what's most important at Salon One 19. In the picture, you can see that this is from the same day she got her hair done and the back of her hair... is completely! COMPLETELY MISSING hair dye. Other places I go to cost me over 300, and my hair would be fried. Here I left with my hair supper soft and shiny. I've enjoyed my appointments here at Salon One 19, however my favorite hair stylist, Michael, is moving to another location. I know many of you actually went to him after reading my review, so cool. He appreciated the business. Now Salon One 19 has plenty of other stylist who could probably do a great job. I don't want to knock them. I'm just more loyal to my hair stylist than I am to a salon. I've been to this salon for pedicure and facials in the past. I'm not a huge fan of getting my nails done, but the Facials....I'm hooked! Auni is fantastic to say the least. She makes you feel so comfortable the whole time. Listens to what you want, what you routine is, make up or no make up, products or not. She recommended some tinted moisturizer for me and I Love It. If it were not for Brenna this review would probably be minus 3 starts do to the fact that the front desk ladies were rude af towards me. I followed my stylist Chas when he moved to this salon a few years ago. I have loved Chas for just about 20 years and would follow him anywhere! He's a great stylist and colorist, always listens to me, and never scolds when I "trim" between appointment, saying "It's your hair!" But more than that, he is also a kind and accommodating friend. I had the most magical Facial by the beautiful and kind Auni! She was so informative after the facial and asked me questions before that would insure a wonderful service. She didn't pressure me to buy any products but did inform me about some products and things I could try she even sent me with some Samples which I have since fell in love with and can't wait till they are back in stock so I can order the full bottles. I then moved from my wonderful facial to an amazing spa pedicure by the gorgeous Lizzie. Lizzie was so beyond kind and gentle she has a very soft personality that made me instantly love her.
