Eric is a magician! I went there looking quite sad and bedraggled. I had a gorgeous cut that he had given me a few weeks ago and I got so many compliments on it. Unfortunately, my life determined that I needed a cut that requires little maintenance. I had no idea what that would look like. Eric took his time and then gave me one of the best cuts I've ever had! He considered everything - the type of hair I have (which is fine and thinning a bit), the shape of my face, and my limitations at the moment. I've had so many hair stylists thought they knew my hair better than I did but Eric listened to every word I said and what I needed and he gave it to me! What's even better is that everyone in that salon is so nice and pleasant. They seem to genuinely like their work and their customers! Give them a call for the best cut of your life! read more

Love it here. A friend recommended Kristy and I'm so glad she did! She's done a fantastic job on my hair both times I've been in and we have a good time while she does it. I'm looking forward to seeing her soon so we can share a laugh, actually. The place is always very clean and well-maintained, staff is super friendly, and I've never waited more than few minutes. Prices are what you'd expect for a salon and they offer everything -- hair, nails, waxing, massage, etc. Can't recommend this place highly enough and Kristy in particular. read more

I have really disliked most of the professional haircuts I've been given over the years. So many bad layers, so many mom bobs. Beauty Essentials was the first salon in about a decade to give me a haircut I really liked. James was fabulous--extremely competent and understanding, and funny at the same time. He comes from an Aveda background and gave me the full Aveda experience with complementary hand treatments, the works. For me, he really struck the balance between listening to my requests and bringing his own expertise to the table; for example, I wanted my hair toned extremely ashy, and he told me he thought the best way to get it as ashy as I wanted it was to give me an allover highlight. I hadn't planned on this whatsoever, but we went for it, and it came out perfect. When I explained that I'm broke and can't go to the salon much, he even factored in a natural-looking grow-out, which worked perfectly. I didn't like the way he styled it (we agreed on "beachy waves" but the end result was more of a 70s Farrah Fawcett vibe), and another stylist gave me a free makeover with the makeup they sell before we left that I also didn't like (a bit too basic for me), but hey--these were freebies, and I think people with different taste would've loved them. I left with a haircut and color that I loved, which grew out beautifully, and everyone was super friendly and professional. And that's better than I could've hoped for! I recommend this place to everyone. read more

Worst color job I've ever received. I've been coloring my hair for about 4 yrs from multiple salons around the country. This time I tried out BE and they ruined my hair. I was at the salon for 3.5 hours trying to get my color correct. Never happened. It was bleached twice and toned at least 4-5 times with the color getting farther and farther away from what I wanted each time. Still not sure how that's even possible. After 2.5 hrs the owner finally got involved and insinuated it was somehow my fault the color wasn't working. Suggested yet a different toner which pushed my hair even further from my desired color. I was so fed up I finally just left and have already had to make an appt with a different salon to correct what they f*cked up, costing me even more money. I have never had this many problems coloring my hair. Save yourself the time, money, and heartache and book somewhere else. Definitely not worth it. read more

They always style your hair (straight or wavy)after your haircut unless you don't want them to without charging extra! My experience with this salon was awful, to say the least. I have been getting my hair colored with Goldwell products for 15 years and went to this salon after moving to Albuquerque from Dallas. The young woman who colored my hair (Bree) made many sloppy mistakes; she did not use foils to separate my dark and light sections of my hair and the colors bled together, she took a short-cut despite my request that she follow the same steps my previous stylist used, she applied the color sloppily and then let me walk out with color all over my face along my hair line, and her drying/styling of my hair was horrible. I called and spoke with the owner to explain my experience to him, and the response he gave me was "I'm sorry, but I don't really know what to tell you." No offer to refund even a portion of my money, no sincere apology, no attempt to solve the issue in a way that would ensure I was happy with my hair. I have never experienced a salon with such poor service and even poorer customer service from an owner. read more
