We had to try this place since I have read all about it! We got a few flavors, the coco vanilla, cheesecake, pistachio, and maple. They were really delicious and quite sweet. We had some to bring back as leftovers and had them for dessert later. Just microwave for 10-13 secs and it was perfect. This is definitely a place to try at least once. read more

A nice fried dessert. Sort of like a denser funnel cake with toppings. Pretty much a fried dough that's dusted with sugar and whatever flavor option you choose to top it with. It's fun to try while visiting Canada. Service was nice. We came during off season so no line/wait. The tourists in us wanted to try anything that says Canadian. The two Banff locations always had long lines, so we decided to give it a try when we saw the same Chain in downtown Canmore. We ordered the traditional poutines and the classic BeaverTail (there are many other topping available). The premade dough was freshly fried upon order and dusted with cinnamon and sugar. It's pretty much the Canadian version of a churro. The poutine is what you'd expect from a fast food chain, with the cheese curd came in a pre-portioned small plastic bag. I doubt the locals actually eat anything from here, but as a tourist, at least we tried it, eh! read more

It's the touristy thing to do when in this area. BeaverTails is Canadian snack shop with locations throughout Canada and with a few shops in the USA. It's kind of like a flat churro, or a sweet flatbread that is fried. We tried their Classic BeaverTail with cinnamon and sugar. It was good like a churro and raised up my glucose level to pre-diabetic levels. Half of one was enough for the entire week. They had other flavors or toppings like bananas, pistachios and more. If sweet isn't your thing, they do have savory as they can make you a beaver dog, or a hot dog wrapped in their fried dough. The classic was good and messy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were two locations in downtown Banff that were absolutely packed and filthy due to the lack of staff and overwhelming amount of tourists.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We saw a location here in downtown Canmore and it was a much less crowded area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We tried their traditional Beavertail and a traditional poutine. The fried dough was topped with cinnamon sugar and tasted like churro dough; it's alright and exactly like you would expect. The poutine was also fine; tasted per expectations and nothing amazing. The cheese curds literally came out of a plastic bag that the staff cut open and dumped on the fries; not impressed. A true Canadian dessert delicacy... it was just alright! I'm a big maple fan and this certainly hit the spot. I knocked off a couple stars because the inside of the restaurant seemed really dirty. The countertops and bins that the food was in were caked in massive amounts of the toppings. A made to order deep fried donut thats in a flattened shape like a beaver tail! I appreciate how customizable these things are! You can get so many different toppings and even add a scoop of ice cream on top! We did the bananarama which is nutella with sliced bananas and a sprinkle of powered sugar, so freaking delicious! It's a dessert chain that serves a puff pastry in a shape of a beaver's tail but you can customize yours and they are made to order. So they come out piping hot and fresh! My sister and I shared an apple pie one and it was delicious and the apples were so fresh. It does get messy, so it's nice they have a sink to wash your hands. Mmmmm. SO Happy I read about this place ahead of staying in Canmore and made the time to get one while I was in town. This is a chain around town (there's one in Banff too). We stopped in for one on a way back from a hike as a post hike treat, and boy was it. Two of us decided to split one, and even though it was super rich and one filled up both of us, I sort of wished we had gotten two just so we could have tried more flavors! Settled on a CocoVanil and it was sooo yummy. They fry up the tail fresh, so it takes a couple of minutes to make, and then they add all the toppings fresh. I had planned on taking it home and waiting a little before eating but it looked so yummy fresh that I just had to dig right in. read more

Happened to find on Facebook that they were offering FREE Beavertails 3-5PM for 1 day only. We stopped into the store and they also had the advertisement for free up so it was legit! I thought they would have made 1/2 size ones for the freebies but they were FULL sized. Fresh, crispy dough. Generous cinnamon and sugar sprinkle. Definitely large enough to share as after a full one we all felt pretty greasy. Tastes just like carnival mini donut.  10/10 was happy with the size and service at this location.  We also tried the ice cream. Had to try a beaver tail while I was in town. Found this spot on yelp and headed over for a snack. Apparently, this company has been around since the late 70s. This little spot is found in a location shared with a convenience store. Headed to the counter and ordered the hazel amour which was a beaver tail covered with Nutella spread. What are beaver tails? They're whole wheat fried patties. You can pick your toppings or pick a preset one off the menu. We also added a scoop of vanilla to ours. It tasted pretty much like carnival food to me. The beaver tail was served piping hot, covered with Nutella...but the gelato was quite terrible. It didn't have good depth to it and was pretty ice and watery. When I read about a Beaver Tails dessert, I knew I wanted to try it. Being someone who doesn't like chocolate, there weren't a ton of options, but still a few. With a lot of restaurants closing at 6PM on a Saturday night, but with us not feeling hungry yet, we went to Beavertails as a substitute dinner! Everything looked so scrumptious and tasty! The sweet tooth in me was coming out, trying to decide between caramel sorbet or a maple Beavertail! Turns out I couldn't decide and we ended up ordering both. The caramel sorbet was interesting. Although it tasted very much like caramel, I think I would have liked a thicker and creamier consistency for caramel-flavored ice cream. It was my first time having sorbet with a flavor that wasn't fruit, so that was throwing me off a bit. The employee was kind enough to let us try some samples before picking, which I am happy about! The maple Beavertail tasted great! Delicious fried dough smothered with maple syrup, designed in a way to look like a Beaver Tail. How much more Canadian can we get with our snacks?? I do wish there was more maple coating and less of the chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce was overbearing, and after about halfway, it just tasted like chocolate more so than maple. We tried our first beaver tail during our visit to Canada. I didn't think I'd like it because it looks overly sweet. I was wrong! It was really good! We got the cinnamon and sugar topping with lemon. It's a very light and airy fried dough with various types of toppings. It was especially good with coffee and hot tea. We liked it so much, we came back the next day for a 2nd one. I was walking in downtown Canmore when I started to become very hungry and looking for something sweet. I came across the beavertails establishment and saw their sweet selection of food items, I decided to get the cocovanil and despite how messy it might have been, it made up for it in every way in the amazing taste. Mine was Oreo theme and There was an abundance of chocolate and vanilla icing and I finished it in minutes because of the amazing taste. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I would recommend anyone wanting a nice sweet treat! read more
