My wife and I came here for brunch over the weekend. We've driven by the place several times and…read morewanted to give it a try. We're SO glad we did!!! My wife got the Chilaquiles with scrambled eggs and drunken mushrooms. She LOVED them!!!! It was just the right balance between spicy and salty. I second her opinion on the drunken mushrooms. I got them in a taco and they were super with a deep, earthy flavor that was so satisfying. I also got the Birria Taco Platter, which was flavorful, but not as good as the Chilaquiles or the mushroom taco. I may go in another direction when I come for brunch again. The service was outstanding. Our server, Jasmine, answered all of our questions, took the time to learn about our past Mexican food experiences and kept everything running smoothly. The dining room, IMHO, was the star of the show. It's a great place to sit and gather with friends over drinks or a meal. It's roomy with engaging decor and great HVAC -- a must during summer in the DMV. The happy hour menu looks interesting. Will definitely be back!!!

We were sat right away and I was surprised at how big the restaurant is (way bigger than it looks from the outside!). I started with a hibiscus margarita, which was delicious. Then we ordered a few things to split, including: guac and tostadas, charred cabbage, gorditas with chorizo, aguachile negro, and the beef short rib platter. The charred cabbage was the biggest sleeper hit. It was so flavorful and unlike anything I've ever had before. Everything else was delicious, although the aguachile was probably my least favorite of what we tried. We finished with the rose water tres leches and the dulce de leche crepes. The tres leches were pretty good but the crepes were amazing. I don't usually love dulce de leche, but it was definitely a standout.

Had a great time and dinner! Chicatana is unassuming and unpretentious, staffed with attentive…read moreservers who do an amazing job (water was always filled and empty plates removed quite efficiently). The decor is simple, no table clothes or frills but it does live up to 'fine cuisine' with excellent food and presentation (another subtle touch is if you leave the table, you return to a nicely folded napkin). We got nearly everything on the menu including all the desserts and Mexican hot chocolate (yum, lightly spicy and piping hot!) . As others have said their guacamole is excellent...do check the charges though bc they added salsa and chips to the tab which we did not order (they removed). Also, the first order of guac came with big bowl of chips, but none with the second order of guac- not a problem though because you do not go hungry. Portions are quite generous. We even tried the ants which was a fun novelty

After parking in the Giant parking garage (decent price), we walked the few blocks to the restaurant. We spotted it with the poster sign hanging up on the outer walls. Inside you head up the stairs and you're greeted by the host stand. We checked in and got our table, right at the window (hellya). There was a rose and a candle on the table (vday vibes) and we also received a vday specials menu. We landed on queso fundido to start and a cocktail each: prickly pear marg for her, a viva mexico for me. After fundido'ing it up, we ordered our entrees. We're simple folks it was a 2 carne asada tacos, 1 al pastor taco, 1 pescado taco, and 1 chicken quesadilla. Unfortunately we weren't bold enough to try the insectos. Food was great, drinks were great, service was great. You can pay your tab via Toast for no additional fee which was convenient. There are two, single use bathrooms in there too. Overall, solid spot.

Every component is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. I did really want to try their breakfast burrito and was sad (& surprised) they aren't open for breakfast on Mondays, because online it says they are. Anyways, we got there right when they opened for dinner and others clearly had the same idea. You order inside at the counter, sit and they bring you your food. Our food did take awhile to come out though, and we were giving the tables around us side eye for getting their food before us. We devoured our chips and salsa in the meantime. All 3 salsas are amazing and worth getting! They went great on the burrito too. Matcha horchata and Arnold Palmer were refreshing, and I appreciate the more inventive drinks than your standard taqueria. And now onto the main event... THE California burrito. Man, it made me happy to be alive. We sat on the patio and it was lovely, and shaded by the umbrellas.
