A California Burrito is a challenging thing to find on the east coast period, let alone a good one. San Pancho's version of the San Diego classic is absolutely top notch and would go toe-to-toe with the La Perla's, Humberto's, and The Taco Stand's of SoCal. The tortillas are fresh, the salsas and guacs house made and flavor packed, and the drink specials are always fun and unique. Not to mention the fun loving and efficient staff. took a break from bar prep to have brunch here and it was awesome. we came in at around 11:30 and were seated immediately at a nice little table outside, though you order at the counter inside. i ordered the vegan breakfast burrito and the matcha horchata latte. both items were absolutely delicious. i loved the burrito, the tortilla was absolutely amazing and the filling really hit the spot. the drink was one of the best i probably have ever had; the combination of the matcha and the horchata absolutely ruled. and i loved the cute cup and floral straw it was served in/with! totally worth the trek to takoma. i would definitely return! read more

I had long anticipated the day I'd finally try a San Pancho breakfast burrito. As someone who used to live in SoCal and eat at least two breakfast burritos a week, my expectations were high. I stopped in on a Thursday morning. There was parking right up the street from the restaurant. I was shocked how small the restaurant was compared to photos I'd seen online. Regardless the space and Takoma Park area is so quaint and cute I was immediately greeted when I walked in and the team was overall very friendly. I loved the decor of the space. A subtle pink interior with San Pancho branded flags hanging from the ceiling. It was making me want to purchase merch while I was there. I ordered their breakfast burrito with barbacoa since the original doesn't come with meat. It came out to pretty much 20 bucks. That price is steeeeep in my books! The burrito was done pretty quickly and came with salsa. When I got home I couldn't wait to dive in and I must say the burrito was good for the DMV but didn't quite hit the mark overall for me. It felt very mushy in texture overall. The salsa lacked spice. And I do wish there were potatoes inside. Not sure I'll be back anytime soon for another high priced breakfast burrito but will still give recommend because I feel like a lot of it is my personal preference. I can attest - the food at San Pancho is still banging!! If you're at all close to Takoma Park, you gotta go. I crave their cali burrito all the time, so I was so happy to have it again. Every component is perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. I did really want to try their breakfast burrito and was sad (& surprised) they aren't open for breakfast on Mondays, because online it says they are. Anyways, we got there right when they opened for dinner and others clearly had the same idea. You order inside at the counter, sit and they bring you your food. Our food did take awhile to come out though, and we were giving the tables around us side eye for getting their food before us. We devoured our chips and salsa in the meantime. All 3 salsas are amazing and worth getting! They went great on the burrito too. Matcha horchata and Arnold Palmer were refreshing, and I appreciate the more inventive drinks than your standard taqueria. And now onto the main event... THE California burrito. Anytime my wife and I are heading back to NYC after spending time in the Silver Spring/Takoma area, this is our go-to stop before hitting the highway. It's become a bit of a tradition at this point. They offered me a free drink, I had to wait like 40 minutes for my order. There's limited indoor & outdoor seating. There's drinks (both alcoholic and nonalcoholic), and appetizers. But after receiving my order I got in my car and had to try it out. When I tell you it was packed with flavor! The meat was good, the tortillas were good quality, the salsas were good as well (I really like the red one). The price varies, I think I paid extra for getting shrimp & carne asada, so my burrito was over $20. But if you don't mind paying for a good quality burrito then it's good. read more

I've been back recently and had a lovely hibiscus slush, guava slush, and horchata. All three were fantastic - I would struggle to choose between the hibiscus and the guava, and I loved the sweet/sour contrast. The California burrito was great apart from the carne asada, which was tough and underseasoned, but I enjoyed the rest enough that I'll just order it with their chicken or chorizo next time! The Mexican mocha latte was great! Rich chocolate flavor and def had a little spicy kick too. The California burrito is a good portion for the hefty price tag and paired with a green salsa. As a Bay Area native who has eaten a lot of authentic Mission burritos, I was extremely skeptical that I would like/be impressed with San Pancho but it is truly worth the hype and is delicious. I knew it was going to be busy on a Saturday night, so I wanted to place my order in advance to minimize wait time but the website was not accepting orders at the time. So I drove down and took my chances, knowing I would have to wait. And honestly, even though it was packed, it took a total of 30 minutes from walking into the building before I had my burrito in hand. They were processing orders from UberEats, DoorDash, you name it, and also processing the dine-in and other take out orders. I waited by the bar with my Arnold Palmer (so refreshing) just watching the sheer magnitude of kitchen orders they were processing. Now for the most important part - the burrito! I went with a classic, the chicken super burrito. It was fantastic!! The guacamole was fresh, it was the perfect amount cheesy and moist from the cheese and sour cream, the chicken was tender, the rice and beans were flavorful, and the tortilla was perfectly warm and tasty holding it all together. I also loved the salsa verde on the side, it was punchy and so delicious. I had have had so many meh burritos in the DC area and this one truly stands out and is so good, even if it is double the price of those others. It is also a HUGE portion so you at least are getting a good bang for your buck. I definitely need to go again for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and try the entire menu, and all of the coffee drinks - I had my eye on the horchata latte but not with my dinner. First time here and WOW-- I was thoroughly impressed and left satisfyingly full. I got the hibiscus tea for my drink and it was probably the best tea I have ever had. I had no expectations for it, but was completely blown away. I ordered the regular burrito with grilled chicken as the protein, with a small side of guacamole. The tortillas are the perfect chewy wrapper to the decadent burrito ingredients. I enjoyed the blend of savory beans and meat, fresh pico, and seasoned rice. The perfect bite consisted of topping the burrito with guac and their green salsa, which comes free with each burrito. I definitely will be back to try more of the protein options. @sanpanchoburritos recently blew up on TikTok, so you know the wife and I had to try it! We took a trip here yesterday and it was super busy with over 50 people here at one time. The inside was full and the outside was also very busy with people waiting for their orders. This place was very efficient though with getting people their orders in the order received. We waited maybe 25 minutes for the two drinks we had and two burritos. For the drinks we got there lemonade which you can tell was freshly squeezed. You could taste the natural lemon juice from freshly squeezed lemons here no concentrate. I also got a Mexican hot chocolate because my wife loves hot chocolate. We also got breakfast burritos mine included a generous portion of barbacoa. The inside environment is very fast paced and they also have merch! I would give our visit a 9 out of 10. They were very busy but they were so efficient that it was impressive because no one was standing still and they were constantly getting orders out to people who ordered as well as delivery driver orders from apps like uber and doordash at the same time! I love the cute little extra touches like pink napkins and Greensprint straws- we love a restaurant that is cute AND environmentally friendly. Greensprint straws are made from natural agave fiber (in addition to sugarcane and wood) that will degrade in our landfills between 1-3 years. Excellent. They're known for Mission style burritos with flour imported from Mexico and it's a difference you can taste. Between the excellent vegan menu (cashew cream anyone!) to veggie options (mushrooms sautéed in tequila!) to barbacoa that literally melts in your mouth...you cannot go wrong here. Did I mention how large the burritos are? Look at the photo next to a Stanley. It's amazing. My vegan burrito was truly exceptional, especially the avocado verde salsa that came with it. I've visited Cielo Rojo (the sister restaurant) and couldn't stop raving about it. Love is in the details and they never fail to deliver. The service is also top-notch and vibes are unmatched. I'm very happy this place opened and has continued to serve Takoma Park. Its always busy because the food is good. I've been getting the carnitas quesadilla and really enjoying the citrus flavored pork. Filling portion size and the green salsa is excellent. My wife loves the chicken super burrito. When the weather is warm we like to walk over and get margaritas. They are freshly made and not from a mix. I recently went back to San Pancho with a friend for a weeknight dinner after almost a year following my first time ordering delivery from there and I had a much better experience in-person. My friend and I were able to order and get our food quickly. We were also able to get a table immediately when we came. The food was outstanding. My friend and I split an order of chips and salsa and they were worthy of a taqueria in the Mission. The chips were clearly homemade, fresh, hot, and crispy. Although they were a bit salty, it was not anything egregious. The three salsas were packed with heat and flavor-the chipotle and tomatillo salsas in particular were delicious. I got the super burrito with chicken mole, and it was amazing when combined with the chips and salsa. The burrito was a good size for the price, and there was a great amount of perfectly cooked and seasoned chicken. There was a good ratio of chicken, salsa, cheese, and guacamole to the beans and rice, and everything tasted fresh. However, as someone who grew up eating Mission-style burritos, I was disappointed that the burrito did not come with a handful of chips and there was no salsa bar (the burrito came with a small container of salsa verde)-I had to pay separately for them. These are both critical components of a "Mission style" burrito. This is the closest burrito I have had in the DMV to a "Mission style" burrito in quality, size, and taste, and I would recommend if you are craving a good burrito near DC. read more

I ordered the viral latte drinks and they did not disappoint. The horchata matcha latte was extraordinary. The regular orchata latte was no slouch either. The California burrito was amazing! I initially found this restaurant because of the 2026 Rammy awards and I was so happy that I did. I rarely go to Takoma Park, so I went out of my way to visit San Pancho and by the end of the visit, I was rationalizing driving 20+ minutes regularly just to have their burritos again. I 'm not a mission burrito expert as I 've only ever had 1, but this one had tremendous flavors, all the textures were complimentary, the tortillas were so delicious. I also tried the horchata drink and it was expertly flavored. Would love to go back for their breakfast burritos at some point. The restaurant inside is a little tight and you order first and then sit. There was some outside seating, but I went on a rainy day, so seating was obviously a little more limited. Finally got to try this place and it lived up to the hype. I got the mach horchata and Barbacoa breakfast burrito. The match was very good rich and well balanced with the horchata. They played iff of each other as matcha is a little bitter but the horchata brings everything out well. The cinnamon and vanilla are so good. The burrito was delicious perfectly cooked eggs and onions. The beef was perfectly cooked. Tender with a nice spice level. The tortilla was well wrapped and didn't fall apart. The salad were great they had nice flavor my favorite was the habanero salsa nice heat and flavor. Service was very friendly and pointed me to the pick up window right when I walked. I was having buyers remorse the minute I ordered the super burrito bowl because I wanted the California bowl, but the guy at the register led me to this telling me it was the most popular and to get it with shrimp. It seems more of a place where people order to go, but such a shame because the inside is beautiful. Everyone there is super friendly! 10/10 in service. Now what it came down to was the food and drinks. - Horchata: My sister compared it to Cinnamon Toast Crunch leftover milk. Definitely on the sweeter side. It didn't taste really like horchata in my opinion, missing the rice flavor. - Matcha Horchata: Even if horchata was a bit too sweet for my liking, the matcha horchata was definitely a hit. I would order this again. Definitely taste the matcha. - Lemonade: I went back and ordered another one. I love a sour lemonade. The only downsize to this. It's $5! - Super Burrito: I am so sorry to say this but it tasted like the food is catered for nonHispanics because on flavor scale it was a 2 at best. We tried it with 3 different meat: barbacoa, chicken, and mole chicken. I would probably never order this again in any forms. The tortilla is imported and soft I'll give them that. - Sauces: I paid $1 extra to try the other sauces. All i can say is they lacked flavor. I didn't like any of them. Great experience! It's not fast casual, but the food comes quick and it is good. They do have beers and the margaritas that you are accustomed to from Ceilo Rojo. If you haven't had it before, it's not overly sweet and the right amount of salt. The burrito is soooo good. I think it has to do with the tortilla skin. It's not a thick skin, so you get full off of the filling more than anything else. I know it's a different concept, but was thankful when the chips were like the crispy tortilla chips you see in the picture. Cielo Rojo gives you almost a Tostada style chip, which I am not a fan of. You notice the attentive, smiling staff and busy employees serving and bussing tables (since the place isn't very big). Visiting San Pancho made me miss L.A. breakfast burritos. I really enjoyed my barbacoa breakfast burrito, but I think the real standout was the service on a busy Sunday lunch hour. One man worked the ordering and register, standing before an endless line of hungry yet patient Takomans (?). Even as I was eating my burrito, I could hear him continue to be extremely kind and happy to explain the menu to everyone. To the side, a shelf fills over and over again with takeout bags and drinks for grab and go diners. I watched the busy kitchen at work and they were also very nice in serving customers with whatever they needed. I waited about 10 to 15 minutes for my burrito and a horchata, not bad for me. So on weekends I would not let the popularity deter you from coming. Takoma is very lucky to have such a good casual spot on the main street. Plenty of tasty filling, especially barbacoa, inside my burrito. I really liked the thin and chewy Sonoran-style tortilla. The horchata, as some have mentioned, is sweet. Even if you let the ice melt it still tastes a bit sweet. There are tables and bar seating inside and outside on the patio. Probably not the best place to take a big crowd. We absolutely love this place!! We have been here countless times and it's consistently delicious for both dine in and takeout. We've tried breakfast burritos (chorizo and barbacoa are favorites!), regular lunch/dinner burritos (mole and carnitas are faves!) and quesadillas. I also love their lattes. Wow these burritos are amazing. I opted for the birra and you cannot go wrong with it. The wrap is dense, which is great for actually holding it and eating it without feeling like you're a pig at a trough. The burrito comes with a nice mild green salsa, and we complemented ours with the habanero salsa. Both were fresh and flavorful, and with a little kick the habanero isn't going to burn holes in your cheeks. Together with the chips and guacamole (also very very good) it's a great and affordable meal, particularly for the DC area. There is a small indoor seating area, the bulk of the space will be tables outside including a sidewalk cafe-like section streetside.
