Despite that, I recently received two invoices--dated January 2026--for services performed in 2024 and 2025. These were the first and only notices I ever received. The statements show no insurance estimate, no insurance payment, and no prior balance, which strongly suggests the office either never submitted the claims or submitted them incorrectly. Preventive services should have been fully covered, and any failure to bill insurance or notify the patient for nearly two years is a provider issue, not a patient responsibility. When a dental office assures patients that insurance is in network, then sends surprise invoices years later with no explanation, it creates a serious trust and transparency problem. I hope they address the internal billing issues that led to this situation so other families don't experience the same frustration.

While she and I had no issues with the actual care she received, we had an AWFUL time with trying to get a refund for services she did not need, but were required to be paid up front. They Illegally billed her insurance for the services she did not get, in addition to billing her for "time in the chair", for which she was NOT EVEN IN THEIR OFFICE! I took the legal approach to advocate for her and contacted the Ohio Attorney General's Office, the American Dental Association and a local attorney. After a crash course by some very kind people at each of these entities, I learned that there is no such billing code for "time in the chair" and charges could be brought against them for illegal billing to her insurance company. When I approached the office, I was given a runaround for months, but finally spoke with a district admin who would not give me answers but "allowed" the refund. I made the comment that they were not allowing anything, but owed it to my friend. My strong recommendation is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS!

That's probably how I noticed that Dr. Gao's office is absolutely spotless and pristine. They have some great magazine choices in the waiting room and a laminated article about Grant Achatz. Major foodie cred for Dr. Gao. The staff there is incredibly friendly and efficient. I've never had a long wait (5 mins max) and they always process payments and insurance promptly.
