What a fun place!!! Such a great price and smack dab in the middle of all the excitement of San Fran. I highly recommend this place!!

I like the modern look and location of this hotel, nice neighborhood with cool eateries/bars within walking distance. It's fairly well-kept, with a beautiful and spacious second level shared patio area for hotel guests, and free parking (though it's pretty tight). Checking in was standard, no unreasonable wait or problems. The room was clean, had a working fridge and thermostat/temperature control, safe, coffee maker, flat screen TV with minimal controls/ channels, spacious bathroom and shower, and all necessary amenities including earplugs, which is rare, but I can kind of see why they offer this because I could hear conversations through the walls at 7 in the morning! (though I don't recall hearing traffic along Market street, and my room was somewhat near that side). Other issues were that they didn't really have a closet or place to hang clothing, rather the bottom half of the "closet" was used for the minifridge, safe, and coffeemaker, so it didn't leave a lot of room for much else. Also, the queen bed was pretty standard and comfortable enough, but it dipped in the middle, and the pillows also became misshapen/flat while I was sleeping. The covers were great though (a thin sheet if it's hot, and a thicker comforter for if you're cold). In addition, the lighting in the room wasn't the best, there were a couple different lights/lamps, but overall it was pretty dim even when turned on. The decor over the ceiling light brought character to the room, but was not very well-thought out because it pretty much covered the lighting. Overall, I still really liked the hotel and felt it was sufficient for my one-night stay. But I think they can do a little better, with the prices they charge.

We've stayed here twice for 2 or 3 nights each time. First in February 2020 for a series of shows at the swedish American hall (1 block away) and more recently in October 2022 for a series of shows at the Warfield. We're from Sonoma county so SF is our "city" and sometimes we need to stay a few nights for what we're doing. We will never stay anywhere else in SF unless we're willing to drop huge amounts of money on a room and a really luxurious hotel experience. The combination of sweet mid century vibes, rooftop patio, price point, free safe parking (!!!), and neighborhood makes this hotel the best in SF. This is truly an upgraded motel in the best sense of the word. Do not expect room service, dining, etc. That's not what this is. But it's clean, check in is a snap, and did I mention free parking??? The rooms are nicely updated, beds are comfy. The neighborhood is lovely, lots of shops and restaurants within 1-3 blocks. Easy access to multiple public transit lines to get anywhere you need to go, and an easy pick up\drop off spot for cabs or ride share. Very safe, most of the hotels in SF are in Union square or the tenderloin which brings some unsavoryness. If you are a smoker, use ride share, etc, hanging out on the sidewalk at night can be a bit sketch, but not here! The roof deck is perfect for catching some sun and chatting or a drink before retiring for the night. Sure, they don't have a bar or anything, but there's a great corner market nearby, and rooms have mini fridges, so you can get your provisions to enjoy during your stay. The "negatives" if you can even call them that at this price point, just for balance: cable tv leaves something to be desired (seemed like it was over the air, so lacking in channels); our room on the recent stay had a shower head that was lovely (good pressure, etc), but needed some more plumbers tape as it had since overspray issues; the walls are a bit thin, so we were awoken by some city tree work right across the street; lobby where you check in is very small, and in 2022 they had a "buzz in" system presumably to minimize people in the small room for COVID sake (understandable, but I saw some other guests get annoyed they couldn't just open the door when we were in there and had to wait until we finished); staff at check in can be curt (but kind! Be nice, they'll be nice back). Most of these negatives are themes I read in reviews of hotels 2 and 3 times the price of this one, so don't let them deter you! This is truly a gem. Thanks Becks! We'll be back.

The check-in process was smooth. The front desk was very helpful in getting us in and filling out a card authorization form. We were surprised by the valet price however - $90 is definitely high. There is no self parking but the prices for the lots nearby are just as high, if not higher for overnight. We really enjoyed our room. It is definitely not the most spacious but felt quite luxurious. We booked a double queen room and were placed in Rm 920. There was limited walking space around the ends of the beds and desk. There was a beautiful view of the courtyard and city. I love that the room was very well-lit. There is ambient lighting and brighter lights you can turn on next to the beds. My friends and I loved the window that separated the bathroom from the sleeping space. It was quite comical and made getting ready for a night out very fun. There blinds for both the bathroom window and outside window were motorized which was a nice touch. The beds were pretty comfortable but nothing too special - I appreciate them having a bunch of pillows. The mini fridge and coffee bar felt pretty luxe and were much fancier than those are other hotels I've stayed at. There were plenty of outlets throughout the room and next to the beds. The whole vibe of the hotel feels very sleek and modern. The hallways are lit with a ambient blue. The inside of the elevators are themed which is super cute for pics. The gym is very nice too, loaded with more than your typical treadmill and elliptical. The lobby felt clean and had little robot things scooting around that apparently are used for room service. I would definitely stay here again so I can explore what I didn't get to see on my short stay!

When it was my turn at the counter, we were checked in pretty quickly and given a run down of the layout and weekend activities. Fresh water is provided right by the elevators so you can fill water bottles before heading to your rooms. And in the morning, hot coffee is provided right before you head out for the day. Pretty thoughtful. My stay was two nights, and the first night the street music and sounds came thru loud and clear. But the second night, it was quiet outside. So it's unpredictable if my stay would be relaxing or nerve racking. The room for 3 was a good size with a large bathroom, large windows of street view, and sizable writing desk, and arm chair. I got to use the gym once and it had all the general equipment and fairly large room. Upon check out, we received the kid welcome gift which was supposed to be at check in, but check in was chaotic so it was better late than never. It really made the difference in this case. First off, the lobby/rooms are gorgeous. It has a really fun, stylish vibe that sets a nice tone right when you walk in. I did happen to visit during a heat wave in San Francisco (rare timing) and unfortunately the AC stopped working in my room that night. But I have to give credit where it's due as the hotel handled it perfectly. They refunded the night without hesitation, and by 7am the AC was already fixed. That level of responsiveness impressed me. Three things I didn't like was they removed the gym for a conference/phone room? People like to keep their routine going while traveling and sometimes don't choose a hotel based on that. It also stated they had a gym, when they didn't. Should add it back. The bathrooms are insanely small. The lobby bar only has water? They can make some good money with such a nice bar. As for the location, if you're not familiar with Geary Street or the Tenderloin area, just do your research ahead of time. Personally, I had absolutely no issues at all and felt fine and completely safe. Try and get a higher floor for less noise, like any other city. It's also super convenient: there's a convenience store literally right across the street with snacks and anything else you might need during your stay. Between the staff, the vibe, and how well they handled the hiccup, I'd definitely consider staying here again (not during a heat wave haha)

However, from the very beginning to end ranged from confusion, annoyance, to plain nightmare. The check in process was confusing and and cumbersome. I was given no check in information, and there was no front desk. The intercom at the front door did not even work, and I had to call their actual "front desk" who apparently said they did not have my information on file and made me go through these annoying steps just to find my hotel room key in a lock box. The most frustrating and nightmarish experience came the next day when I lost the hotel room key (a physical key). I called the "front desk" several times but received no answer then finally got one after about 10 minutes. When I told the man at the "front desk," he told that he would have to speak to the housekeeper. After waiting for another 10 minutes, he informed me that I would be getting fined $200 for the lost room key, which is plain ridiculous, since they didn't have a replacement key (other than the housekeeper's key). I understand a $25 or $50 fee for a lost key but $200 for a freaking key???! After waiting for about 40 minutes total, he finally walked over with my replacement key and begged me not to lose it since that would mean the housekeeper can't even get in (how laughable). What's worse was that the other guests were able to use their phone or a passcode to get in since all the room had e-locks. When I asked the man at the "front desk" why I needed a physical key, he said that not all of the e-locks were working--including the one for my room. What a load BS. Amazing Service. Good Value. Butler Service…read more I came to the Bay Area for a relative's 80th birthday and booked The St. Regis because it was the only Forbes Five-Star rated hotel in San Francisco. I'm usually hesitant to stay at American hotel chains' "luxury products" because they often just feel like Marriotts with nicer tile (most new Ritz-Carltons, for example). I found the St. Regis to actually offer the kind of luxury service that is often missing in American hotels. I arrived fairly early, around 11:00 a.m., and the staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating both an early check-in and late check-out, along with a room upgrade. Prior to this stay, I didn't really understand the purpose of butler service, but they were kind enough to gift-wrap the presents for the birthday party I was attending while I booked a massage and walked around the city. The spa at the St. Regis is fairly large, with an indoor heated pool (well designed), a gender-separated steam room (out of order during my visit), and a sauna. I will say the spa could use an expansion or renovation. The "relaxation room" felt a bit like a repurposed salt room, and the men's lounge basically just had tea and snacks. The massage itself was great, and everyone there was extremely friendly. What really impressed me was the service. I casually asked whether they had bath salts available for use in my room, and within 30 minutes of leaving the spa, bath salts, bubble bath, and bottled water were delivered to my room without my needing to make a special request. Great attention to detail. I walked through the gym and it seemed large enough for a full circuit workout, with plenty of equipment. I do wish the hotel had more dedicated lobby or guest lounge areas. The check-in area, bar, and restaurant all seemed to blend together into one shared space, which felt fairly busy in the evening when non-guests came in for happy hour. The bar was nice but honestly expensive and not especially memorable. I was a bit surprised by some of the clientele (there were what I assumed to be a couple "working ladies" at the bar who I wonder if their services were less than the cost of breakfast in hindsight), though very friendly occasionally felt slightly out of sync with the otherwise polished atmosphere of the hotel. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner. The hotel does offer a complimentary car service around the local area, though unfortunately it was booked when I needed it. Breakfast was expensive, easily over $100 per person for a fairly normal order, but it was very tasty. The Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked and included truffle, which was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable. I do think it could have used a deeper scrub, though I admit my standards may be skewed by an exceptional housekeeper at home. There was also a slight musty odor. It was not on the level of a room at an average Belmond property or the former Mandarin Oriental Miami, but it was spacious and perfectly comfortable for one person. I'm not entirely sure whether St. Regis considers itself directly competitive with those brands. In summary, the service is what makes this hotel worthy of five stars. They seem genuinely happy to accommodate nearly anything you might need or even casually mention wanting. Personally, I find San Francisco itself dirty, stressful, expensive, and rough around the edges, so having a hotel that felt calm, polished, and attentive made a huge difference in my trip.

It was SF restaurant week so we ordered the $90 3 course meal for dinner at the hotel restaurant Astra. We ordered the duck cannoli (ok tasting but the duck is cold), braised short rib (very good! Love the polenta) and the brussel sprouts (menu said it was gremoleta/garlic/parmesan flavor but it ended up being gochujang flavor and it was overly sauced). Was not a huge fan. The hotel is dog friendly. They give you a bed and bowl and treats. The pet fee is steep at $200 per stay. There is the Yerba Buena gardens across the street (5 minute walk) to take your dog out. They allowed me late check out at 5pm which is awesome!! Also, they have a chi hair dryer which is very powerful. This was a staycation for me to enjoy the 250th celebration of America. I booked the premier bay to bay bridge room(4511). I would highly recommend booking this type of room especially if you have never been to SF. As a local, I was still in awe of the beauty. You could see everything - Golden Gate Bridge - Bay bridge -Presido- Transamerica - Coit Tower. Karl the fog ruined fireworks but BOOK THIS ROOM, it's that good. I will say when checking in, even though I booked thie premier view room they gave me keys to a Bay Brdge view only room. I am not knocking any points off because when I questioned it they made it right, right away. I also ordered the Bridge treat tray and we did not get that. I had to ask three separate times but they did end if bringing it. We brought our dog with us and the staff brought him treats (which he LOVED). We didn't make it to the restaurant but ordered room service. We ordered clam chowder and OMG this is the best clam chowder in SF. The bread bowl was perfect and the clam chowder was loaded with clams. Since I am a local to SF I just might stop in here when craving clam chowder. A few hiccups - it happens, but overall very happy with our choice to stay here. Will definitely be staycationing again here.

Not sure who the GM is, but they need to take a bow for creating and maintaining a culture of pride and excellence. The staff is happy to be here and it shows in every small detail.
