Our experience was underwhelming. The building was underwhelming and we did not stay the night, with the expectation that a refund would be fairly considered. The staff was unclear about this procedure and we were told that a manager would review the request in 3 weeks. Simply, don't expect customer service and be prepared to deal with their nonsene. The room was actually really great! We had our own living room and hallway that connected to the main bedroom. It was so spacious, and it really overlooked the street. Very clean, Esley was great and we were able to even check in earlier than our time! Really grateful for their accommodations, and they are understanding. The check-in time is super late (4pm), but otherwise I loved everything about this hotel, and our recent experience here helped create a memorable New Year's Eve in the city. Spacious room with super comfy king sized bed and pillows, plenty of seating, a table, ottoman, counter space, as well as temperature control (heater, AC, ceiling fan). The lobby is small, but the third floor (and possibly every floor) has its own lovely lounge area with sofas, free water (with disposable cups available), a vending machine with snacks and beverages, a fireplace, decorative lighting (during the holidays), and interesting artwork on the walls. Service at the front desk was friendly and efficient, the staff happily greeting us everytime we entered and exited the building, keeping smiles on our faces during our stay. Parking is pricey in Union Square, but this is a great hotel I was pleasantly surprised by this past weekend, and I highly recommend it. read more

This was my first time staying at The Inn, and it was a complete nightmare. After checkout, I was shocked to see a $50 charge on my card for a "missing umbrella". Something that was never in the room, that I did not take, and that was completely unnecessary on a sunny day. I spoke with multiple staff members, but each gave me the runaround. I asked to speak with a manager, but management was completely unreachable. The hotel's handling of this charge was completely unacceptable. They have no system for resolving disputes, and guests are left running in circles for something that isn't even their fault. Be very cautious if you stay here. Unexpected charges can appear on your bill with no way to resolve it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. read more

Stay far away from here. They will scam you. We stayed here for one night and received a $50 fee for a "missing umbrella" when there wasn't an umbrella to begin with. It was a sunny day with no rain in sight to even use an umbrella. We have had multiple conversations and they keep giving us the run around. Had a family emergency come up and went to request a refund, I understand they have a policy but I was hoping to work something out with the hotel due to an unforseen situation. Not only was the employee, Janelle, extremely rude, she put down the phone abruptly and would not let me speak to a manager of any kind. When I did get in contact with someone who could help, they requested a 100 dollar cancellation fee. I was then charged 171 fraudulently from an outside company called indigo airlines. I would not give your credit card information to this hotel. I understand having a policy but my experience with Janelle was genuinely awful and she wasted both of our time with something that could have been much easier. If you call and get Janelle I would recommend calling back until you get in contact with someone else. Not only is she unhelpful but she would not go and get someone that had the ability to be useful. read more

We stayed in this hotel for a week and loved it. It is located right next to Union Square and close to everything from the cable car to public transportation, restaurants, and most tour pickup spots. Our room was clean and comfortable. Check-in is done virtually online. There is a QR code on the door to scan for check-in, which gives you an access code for the front door and your room. If you arrive early or need to depart after check out, the staff will hold onto your luggage. Because check-in is now done online, it can be a bit hard to get a hold of someone in the morning. However the housekeeping staff were great and very helpful when we couldn't get a hold of the front desk personnel! Johnathan, who helped check us in, was also great and very responsive! Because of COVID, breakfast is no longer served and cookies and wine are no longer offered. There is still morning coffee though. There is a vending machine and maps by the front door and a water filling station on the 3rd floor. Each floor has a small common area. We loved our king suite room which has a sitting area separate from the bedroom. Since we had a room in the front we had a good view of the front street. The bedroom room faced a wall though. There is also a mini fridge, but no microwave. It would be nice if they placed a shared microwave somewhere on the property because we ended up wasting a lot of food because of it. No air conditioning, but there is heating and ceiling fans which was enough in August. I highly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay here again. read more

The room was spacious yet cozy, and well decorated. The bathroom was immaculate. One thing I can definitely say about this place is how incredibly clean everything was, especially for such an old building. The location was also quite perfect, in that it was centralized, so wherever we wanted to go was only a short Muni ride away (with stations/stops) only a short walk away. The staff was also very attentive and friendly. My only complaints were #1 the pillows...yikes. Soft feather pillows do not lead to good sleep. #2 the continental breakfast...I would much rather NOT be charged $20 per day ("resort fee") and just go out and get my own breakfast for that price. All that being said, we would most likely stay here again specifically because it was so clean and a good location. read more

Let's be honest-- this is a pure money grab, combined with a lazy receptionist. It's not like I blocked another customer from booking that room in the 5 min I held it. Don't forget the amenity fee: on top of the total nightly cost you pre-paid, you'll also have to pay an additional $20/night once you arrive. I spent three days going back and forth with the inn at union square to reserve a room next month. The inn told me they would honor a price match, we I initially called them. I emailed them with a screenshot of the price but didn't receive clear inspections and the dates were not included. I waited until later that day to call them again to confirm they received my email. Emailed them again with the dates included. Called the next day and "something" wasn't included and no one could tell me what the thing was. Waited until the next day again where I submitted a new screenshot gave them my credit card info and was told" oh wait my coworker said we should just wait for the manager to come in tomorrow" Asked that the manager call me the next day by a certain time, the next day by our agreed upon time, no phone call. I ended up calling for the 4th time on the third day to be told the manager would not be honoring the price match... and the manager was not interested in speaking with me as the decision was final. Obviously upset I called their corporate number to give feedback before coming to Yelp, surprisingly no one has called me back or emailed me. I'm sure this hotel is fine but wasting a potential customers time, not clearly knowing policies and lacking the organization to return a phone I couldn't recommend this hotel any less. Clearly the lack of training comes from corporate level as even they didn't care to address my complaint. read more

We had a FANTASTIC stay at the Inn at Union Square. The location was incredible for the value. We were in walking distance to everything and despite all the protests going on at OTHER hotels, we were not disturbed in the slightest. The hotel was very quiet and clean. The morning breakfast was great and had a good variety of options. There was something for everyone. Every staff member I interacted with was FANTASTIC and went above and beyond to make our stay great. We were able to use the employee microwave whenever we needed it which I thought was very nice since we would occasionally take leftovers back to the room. My only recommendation, not a complaint by any means, would be to maybe add a microwave on the 3rd floor next to the vending machine so that all occupants have access. Huge shout out to Jakara who greeted us upon arrival and answered any questions we had throughout our stay. She was incredible. And also thank you to Carlos, who was extremely helpful at night with anything we needed. I will definitely be staying at this hotel again next time I'm in the Bay area. My husband and I loved staying at the Inn at Union Square. Actually, it was the best part of our San Francisco vacation! The hotel has the charm of a quaint bed and breakfast, but with more modern rooms and a really convenient location. The hotel was really easy to find. It is about halfway down the block and there is a bright red awning on the sidewalk. The main floor lobby was smaller than I am used to, but I think it fits the hotel's character and works well. We arrived a few hours before the official check in time, but luckily our room was ready, which usually never happens for us. (They also offer luggage storage if you need it). We thought our room was amazing, especially for a big city where space is at a premium. It was large, comfortable, and quiet. Every evening (5:30 - 7 PM), the hotel offers a free wine and cheese reception in the second floor lobby. We stopped by every night and it was so much fun. They had red and white wine, sodas, meats, cheeses, olives, and crackers. This hotels attracts the most interesting people from all over the world and we really enjoyed talking to the other guests at this event. Every morning (7 - 10 AM), they offer a free breakfast in the second floor dining room. I've been to several continental breakfasts in my day, but this one was really well done. They had a huge selection of different foods (bagels, pastries, eggs, yogurt, fruit, etc), and everything was really high quality. Every night (8 PM), they set out a jar of cookies on each floor! The cookies were excellent. They were large, freshly baked, and chewy chocolate chip cookies. What really makes this hotel stand out is the staff. Everyone was super nice and helpful. Ann did a great job of helping us check in and we mentioned that we were in town to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Later we received a bottle of champagne, a box of chocolates, and a nice card in our room. We really appreciated this thoughtful gesture and it made us feel so welcome. The lady who sets up the breakfast in the morning was also really pleasant, so shout out to her as well. :-) read more

First off let me say, the staff here are top notch. Everyone was super awesome and attentive to our needs. Here is an example. I asked if they have disposable combs since I didn't bring one for my beard. They said they would get me one. They said they would go to the basement to get me one. I didn't want to have them go out of there way to go to the basement to get me a comb. I told the staff not to worry. Well they still insisted to come through for me and brought me a comb. Talk about customer service. The room was small but nice. The room came with the basic amenities including an iron and ironing board. The shower was great. I love a nice hot shower. The bed was comfy. The room was dark. Great spot to sleep. No hotel parking but there is a paid parking area around the corner. Union square is a one minute walk. Plus Macy and Saks and other ritzy stores close by. I would stay here again for date night. read more

What a delightful stay at this cute little inn in the middle of union square! Perfect location. Spacious room. Friendly staff. Clean (which is important during these times). Reasonably priced. I would stay here again 10/10 and here's why: Early flight arriving in SF by 8am can be disastrous especially since we realized that the normal front desk would be nonexistent and worry set in that we would need to transport our luggage up and down the rolling hills of the city. We were not ready for that kind of workout. Our unique code to enter the building wasn't working either since check in was not until 3pm. However, not only did the friendliest employee let us in so that we could change into more appropriate non-plane clothes in the staff bathroom, but the front desk staff informed us that our room was ready. So, the inn does have a front desk in the back and the staff are very nice and helpful! The rooms were spacious and the king bed was extremely comfortable for the two of us. We even had a sitting area with a keurig type machine to make coffee/tea. Robes were provided however we were not in the room long enough to adorn such luxurious attire. Oh and let me tell you about the soap as I'm quite a hotel soap snob (try to say that 5x fast). They had the oatmeal soap bars, which smelled nice and exfoliated your skin. I forget what floor it was on, but there's complimentary coffee/tea (Peets and mighty leaf) until 11am. So we loved stopping by that floor before trekking into the city. There's also a FloWater refill station on one floor so bring your water bottle on your travel and get some electrolytes. Last but not least, the hotel staff was so accommodating when we asked for a late checkout on Sunday. Normal checkout is 11am and they extended us to 12pm... even a little longer as I needed to "get ready" (girl problems). Anyways, this was a perfect stay for a 3-day weekend and first big trip since COVID. Highly recommend and I can't wait to stay again when we make our way back up here. read more

My husband and I stayed here for our 2 night stay in SF and it was super cozy! Small but cute hotel! I am not kidding when I say this was the comfiest bed I have ever laid on in a hotel, I almost didn't want to get out of bed! The room is a good size as well as the bathroom. They offer a "complementary" breakfast which is essentially the $20 fee they take from your deposit. I really appreciated how they lock the doors after a certain time in the evening. The location is GREAT, right in the middle of Union Square and very walkable. The staff was super friendly as well! The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is due to the parking. There is no hotel parking other than their valet which comes at a hefty price. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel if you are staying in the area!! read more

We came to the giants game and stayed here for one night. The customer service we received from the staff was everything and more. I forgot his name but the man working weekend on 6/26/21 was attentive and assisted us when the code wasn't working. He even followed up with us later that evening to assure us the code would work. The location is perfect! We felt very safe as a code must be entered to enter the building. Literally a block to union square and a 10 min drive to oracle park. Unfortunately there's no parking offered by the inn but there's a parking garage around the corner for $35 for overnight which is not bad. The check in/out process was a breeze as it was all virtual. Very nice and clean Boutique Hotel. Staff very freindly and steps away from Union Square. I had a 1 night stay and decided to stay another night which luckly they were able to accommodate. My wife said the bed was one of the most comfortable she has slept on in a hotel, I had to agree. The continental B-fast was convenient for a quick bite. Parked at the front of the Inn dropped bags off and went to the garage. I didn't think the parking was too expensive ($35 including $5 discount for staying at the Inn) I self parked (dropped the car with the garage parking staff) but it was litterally right around the corner on the same block and very secure. 2 minute walk back. A very cozy hotel Ina busy part of San Francisco. The hotel lobby (if you can call it that) is extremely small with a single desk and person to check you in. Do note that if you want any semblance of a view you may want a room on at least the 4th or 5th floor as our room on the 3rd floor had a window facing the brick wall of the next building. The room was nice however with a powerful quiet ceiling fan for airflow (no AC is available at this location though we had no issues with it being too hot or cold in May). Bathroom is very nice and modern and they have a water station on each floor where you can top off. What's also nice is the little social gatherings they have each night with wine and hor d'oeuvres with fresh cookies in the late night and a decent continental breakfast in the morning. Valet parking is a bit pricey at around $60 (after tax) each night (with unlimited access). Overall we were happy with the service and decor of this location! read more

It's the city and an old building, so really nothing can be done to change this. Fabulous wine and cheese in the evenings. Complementary water bottles in the room :) Second night we moved to a corner suite. Worth the extra money. Great light and enjoyed the extra space. Continental breakfast was good. This tiny gem among the behemoth hotels of Union Square is simply marvelous. From the outside (never judge a book by it's cover) the simple red cloth awning and double doors would be overlooked by most but upon entry into lobby you are let with "hmm this is an interesting place". I will admit the vending machine in the lobby is a bit odd but when you realize how small the hotel footprint is and how much of the city shuts down past midnight - it is a very welcome sight. The Inn really shines with the character of its staff. I was arriving early from Denver and knew I needed to drop my bags before 4pm and would not be back till around 2am (yes sightseeing, dinner and a concert back to back to back). Luther at Reception was so kind - he allowed me to come in and drop my bags, gave me some quick advice which was needed and off I went. Now on to the important part of any stay during the time of COVID and in a city like San Francisco - this place is literally the cleanest hotel ever. The ROI - return on investment was mind blowing. We stayed in Room 604 which is the Spreckles Suite. The room was generously appointed with fine finishes, style and space. Upon entry, you were in the sitting room which had a sofa, chair, coffee table, flat screen tv, decorative fireplace, wet bar and powder room (yup a powder room). All this with a bay window - albeit the view was of the smokestacks and other buildings (but hey its a big city). This room allowed for you to entertain if you wish and not have guests see your bedroom or master bathroom. On to the adjacent bedroom - a sumptuous King bed that you literally melted into. The bedroom also had fine finishes including flat screen tv, refrigerator, safe in the closet, bathrobes, hair dryer, and iron. The pièce de résistance was the bathroom! Enormous in scale - double sinks and mirrors, a makeup table/mirror, a half walled area for the toilet.....and......a shower that you could literally wash 4 people in and still have space. The shower had rainwater effect shower heads and body sprayers....all I kept thinking was where is Joe Francis and a bunch of girls!!!! For a two night stay with tax it was $356...amazing. If ever back in San Fran (which I will be), this place is a for sure do again and again and again. read more

I loved the Inn at Union Square. I was trying to find a nice, affordable hotel in a good location. I'm not very familiar with San Francisco, and I decided on this one because of the Yelp reviews and the price. I booked two king rooms for four adults, and this place was a hit with everyone. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. After a long road trip, the complimentary cheese and wine were perfect. When we got back to our room, we had two chocolates waiting for us. Around 7-8 pm fresh DELICIOUS cookies are available on each floor. After realizing we had forgotten to pack our toothbrushes, the staff sent two up, and they even came with a tiny tube of toothpaste. We checked out around noon but had plans to explore the city before leaving. The hotel staff offered to hold on to our bags until we were ready to leave and even invited us back for more complimentary wine and cheese in the evening! The only con was parking - or lack thereof, but that's not the hotel's fault, parking is difficult in San Francisco. We parked in a garage that was right around the corner. Valet parking was available for a fee, but we chose to find our own parking to save a little money. We plan on returning to this hotel in the future, but without a car. We only had one night here, but we would've loved to stay for a longer visit. read more

Everything except our room was excellent. The continental breakfast was tasty. The little lobby on each floor was cute. Location is fantastic being only 5 minute walk to the Christmas tree at Union Square. Regarding the room - the bed was lumpy, the thermostat did not seem to work, and the floor somehow seemed slanted. Neither my wife nor I got a good night sleep on the bed. We lowered the thermostat but didn't feel anything for 45 minutes so we turned on the fan to make it cooler. The room was so cozy and modern but the basics of bed and temperature ruined what otherwise would have been a perfect stay. read more
