"Suspected fraud run amok" --SIPPING FRUITY DRINKS (WITH UMBRELLAS) UNDER A THATCHED ROOF IN THE BAHAMAS! -(on the run with all my BECU credit!) My debit card says it is locked down due to suspected fraud. This is the 2nd BOGUS attempt to lock down my card for suspected fraud. This occurred the first time bc when I opened my account I couldn't correct a mistake right away with my first deposit. I tried 3 hours later, but too late!~ It took 2 wks to get my account unlocked, but by that time I had already secured an auto loan with BOA. (you have approved me 3x already, but I wasn't ready to buy a car yet). I have good credit. Right. So, I deposited $300 into my checking account with BECU just to see if they would get it together or not. I want to do more banking with you, but for some crazy reason this gets in the way. I've never had a bank lock down my account for "suspected fraud" from me. Now, tonight, I just found out my account was locked down AGAIN due to suspected fraud! All I can think of is that: either I put the wrong pin in. Or: because I recently changed my address TEMPORARILY to a PO Box-- because I was traveling. Did that trigger the lock down? (I included a physical address. Can't someone go on a trip and use a TEMPORARY ADDRESS without triggering this? This is the craziest bank ever! I've never even USED my BECU credit card! Don't you think I would've run the card up if it were fraud? I wanted to make regular deposits into my account but now you've locked me out for the second time! Don't you distinguish between someone who is honestly trying to do banking with you vs. fraud? It seems one has to fit the exact specifications. And yes. I also answered all the security questions correctly! Really? This is infuriating! I have NEVER EVEN USED MY CREDIT CARD. Don't you think I would've been on a spending spree? Or sipping fruity drinks down in the Bahamas by now? I've been seriously embarrassed by your unprofessional accusations of "suspected fraud"--not once but twice. How can I trust you to secure a car loan or manage my accounts. Your reputation precedes you! I only came back to BECU because of a very helpful man who "put in a good word for me with the loan department." WHO DOES THAT??? What kind of bank summarily locks down your account when you haven't done anything to warrant it? Maybe your credit union has been burned too many times. Iv been trying to get a hold of BECU of Tukwilla, Wa for the last 21 minutes now as Im writing this review, they clearly need more people working at the location if they dont know how to pick up a phone call. Anyways, I scheduled an appointment with someone 4 days ago. Came in to the Seattle branch to discuss a first home mortgage. The lady was polite but wasnt a loan officer so she told me she would schedule me an appointment for saturday and that someone would be giving me a call the next day. It has now been 3 days and I still havent heard from anyone. If you're looking to get a first home loan, I would highly recommend going to someone else who wants your money. One of the worst Customer Service by phone!!! I've been member with them in the past 5 year and now I am thinking to cancel both my account . My latest bad experiences was 10 minutes ago, called Customer Service of why my online ticket purchase which only cost $80 ( I still have $4900 credit limit) was DECLINED? Called 1800 number at 3 am , put on hold for 50 minutes, transfer to Security department who asking another stupid question , again put me on hold with all excuses ! My question was very simple , why my first and second ticket transaction went through while my third transaction did not go through? she could not answer and seems VERY un-professional ! FYI, with American Express they valued their customer , solving and answer my question less than 3 minutes , professional and courtesy ! With BECU, 1 hour and 10 minutes with confusion result !!! There are things about BECU that I absolutely love, their banking and customer service can't be beat. I was in the process of purchasing a home when my paypal account was hacked and my checking account wiped out, BECU had the money back in my account in less than 1 day! 2 faxes and the money was back! My car loan was flawless with fantastic interest rate and no issues, I've been banking with them for about 10 years and love every service they offer. My big huge complaint would be this: never ever ever get a home loan from BECU if you can avoid it. My home loan experience back in 2007 was flawless, I applied and literally 30 days later was moving in. However, since the economy crashed, I now have big problems. I am stuck on an ARM that I cannot get out of, my condo is way upside down and BECU will not help at all. No one will refinance it, I cannot short sale it because BECU wants me to pay back the difference. I've talked to several real estate attorneys who tell me BECU is the worst and that there is nothing they can do at all to help me. Had my loan been through a big bank like Wells Fargo would have already had the problem fixed, But with BECU I can't do anything, nor will they refinance it or lock it into some sort of fixed rate. I am a real estate agent and I never recommend them to any clients, they are great unless you get into trouble, and then you can never get out of it. read more

Generally they do fine managing my accounts, but if there is ever an issue I will ALWAYS dread having to call customer service. The reps are not friendly or helpful, and every time I call there is a different issue WITH BECU. I only give it two stars because when I complain about the service mangaement eventually finds a way to make it up to me, but frankly it is annoying to have to go through that. I am already having an issue, then I have to take it further to contact management to complain about the customer service (or lack thereof) just so I can get my original issue adequately addressed? They have proven to be unreliable, inconsistent, and lacking any regard for customers. I don't recommend them and in fact we are actively shopping for a new bank! I'm tired of BECU's BS!!! read more

I was just banking with Chase and they have always transferred my credit card payment and direct deposit in a split second (huge advantage) and people always told me to steer clear of Chase because they drove their own company into debt, and was advised to bank with BECU well because I am also a Boeing employee. So I made the switch. The past month I have been struggling to get my direct deposit on time as well as transferring my monthly credit card payment on time. It's really aggravating and I can't handle it anymore. And not to mention the car loan I applied for and got denied when I have almost perfectly awesome credit and I get paid well AND I've been with Boeing for 3 years AND never been in "actual" debt. read more

After being a customer for over 8 years having all our banking, cars and credit cards with BECU. Trying to do a home purchase with them has been one of the most exhausting processes. Thirty five days into the process, they have finally decided that the HOA's bad debt ratio of 15.75% is too high for their guideline of 15%, unfortunately for us they made this decision after already having us pay for an appraisal that they do not wish to release now that they are not doing our loan. We have had to resend paperwork numerous time, wait through multiple delays and excuses. Last week they wanted us to pay for a rate lock extension because time was running out but it was due to their processing delays... So to be ran through the hoops and disorganization. Then be told they will not release the appraisal we have paid for seems punitive and so unlike BECU. This has been extremely stressful and hard on my whole family. Not too mention the sellers who are now nervous about our deal. Within a few hours already found a lender already signing off on exception. But BECU seems to think we should pay for another separate appraisal. Way to be a community lender...I guess you can choose to bank with them but their mortgage side is a mess... I need to make an addition to this review. My wife went into the main office hoping to speak with someone and get our loan packet. The loan manager who I am going to give more courtesy and respect than he gave my wife by not using his full name. John S., thought requesting a copy of our loan file was unreasonable and reaffirmed that they would not release appraisal. He acted as if he was doing us a favor by giving us a useless copy. I also had an exchange by email and phone with him. Customer service refresher course is highly recommended. read more

I will start my saying I absolutely love this company. I opened an account back in November of 2012. I love everything about them. I bought a car in November of 2014 and it was our 2nd car so it was for my boyfriend. They financed us at a great rate and we were very happy. 2 weeks later i was rear ended in my primary car, a 2012 Nissan Altima, I was rear ended so hard that my car was totaled. I had to get a new one and fast. As soon as I knew my car was getting settled out I went to find a new car. Since I wasn't expecting this to happen I wasn't prepared with another down payment and since I already had a car loan through BECU I wasn't able to get approved through them. I found a 2014 Altima that was nearly new and I loved it. I ended up having to go back through a company called Ally who was my original lien holder on my Altima that was totaled. However they decided to bump my rate by a whopping 7%. So I was at 18.4% on a 17,000 dollar car. Yes I was paying mostly interest. I was ok with this because I needed a car and so did my boyfriend. I knew I would try to refinance after a year. Our luck turned again about 8 months later when someone slammed into my boyfriends car on the freeway and totaled it. This time we decided to pay cash for a new car for him. I decided once the insurance paid off his car that I would see if BECU would refinance me. Turns out I was approved instantly. I cut 4 months of payments off my loan and 120.00 per month...By them taking on my loan they saved me nearly 10,000 interest. I couldnt be more pleased with BECU! read more

Don't walk, but run to BECU. This is the best bank for Washington residents. All residents are eligible. No connection to Boeing required. Great interest rates on loans, savings, todo, everything. The service people at BECU are so responsive. I never knew I could love a bank like this. I find myself raving to complete strangers about how great of a bank it is. No fees to use other banks ATMS on the BECU side, plenty of BECU ATMS all over the greater Seattle area, plus you can use any other type of credit union's ATMS with no fees on either side, deposit checks, etc. Make the switch from the big banks to a credit union, you will wonder why you ever put up with such lousy service and crappy rates. read more

I typically don't make a fuss about anything, but I had an ongoing situation trying to pay off a line of credit and the experience was exhausting. I needed to pay down this account with gift funds I received in a third-party bank account. The money should have gone directly from the third-party account to pay off my line of credit, with no transfers between my BECU account. I called and asked for instructions on how to do this three different times, and got three different answers. First answer- you can pay with a debit card over the phone, you'll get assessed a 9.95$ fee (which is fine). Second answer- you cannot pay over the phone, you will have to do it in a branch in person with your debit card. Third answer- you cannot pay with a debit card in person if the account is not past-due, it has to be a check or cash. Three reps, three answers which would prompt three different actions on our part, all in a 20 minute period. We finally made the payment via check in a branch, but didn't get a copy of the check like we needed. I called the support line that night and asked how we could get a copy of the check. We were given three options- fax, mail or pickup at a branch. We chose to pick it up at the branch the next day, the support rep said he would ping the branch and let them know. I get there this morning, go to the front desk and explain the situation, and they said to go to the teller line since they have access to the system the front desk doesn't. Fine, I do that, the teller helps me, and before he gives me the scans says that next time I should call in advance because it makes their job easier. Okay- I did exactly that and was told that it was all set for me. He said "well, we didn't show anything, but even so, you can go to the front desk and they can help you out." Great- I did that too, and they sent me to the teller line. He finally said "well, you have what you need" and I was on my way. Maybe all the support staff, the tellers, front desk folks and so on need to have a team meeting. My request was relatively simple, it shouldn't have been this tough. BECU already benefits tremendously from their network with other CUs that have much more helpful support staff, so I would expect the small number of staff that you do have to at least be able to coordinate their answers. read more

BECU - Credit Card Called in a fraud alert two days ago. Talked to three different people in Credit Card Services. They were going to close down my card, send me out a new card with a new number within two business days and not charge me to FedEx it due to a snafu when I went out of the country on BECUs part couple of months ago. Just received the card today and it was the same number as the old card. Not only did they not close down the card, they did not make out the fraud paperwork. Called today and spoke with Credit Card Services only for them to tell me no fraud alerts had been done and the account had not been closed. Ya gotta love this. Credit Card Services transferred me to Member Services at BECU so I could fill out fraud paperwork, Member Services tried to tell me that fraud paperwork had been done and there was a lock on the account. I said you are the fourth person that I have talked to and quite frankly I have no faith in any of you right now. This account was supposed to be shut down and a new card with new number sent out. First the good: BECU has provided a pain-free experience with our checking account and two car loans. Their interest rates cannot be beat by any big commercial banks. The only drawback with is you can only buy rolls of quarters at the Tukwila branch. *** Update 10/27/2017*** Just complete a house refinance with BECU. It took FIVE months, endless emails and lots of confusion. Insider tip: You will be assigned an inexperienced BECU employee to collect information and to "hold your hand." The other employee, the manager, will contact you after initial paper work submitted. NOW SAVE THE MANAGER'S NUMBER IN YOUR PHONE!! Assumed anything you say or submit to inexperienced employee will be lost. Refinancing only makes sense if they waive origination fee and offer cheap points. Be sure your marriage is strong. Good luck. *** End Update*** Now the ugly: Home Mortgage. After applying online, our Realtor implored us to go to the Tukwila branch personally to verify we had all paperwork properly submitted. Apparently, BECU outsources all mortgage work to a third party, but maintains a couple permanent staff members in Tukwila. We submitted all paperwork in Tukwila and received a contact in case things go sideways. It did. We received a letter in the mail three weeks later which said: "if we do not receive the information by this date [INFORMATION WE PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED PERSONALLY],we will regrettably be unable to give further consideration to your credit request and will cancel your loan. I contacted the permanent staff in Tukwila and asked him to sort his out. He left me a voicemail stating he did no want to interfere with the third party. What? We opted to go with Cobalt mortgage. Excellent service. Half the origination fees. Did I mention excellent service? Checking + car loans = 5 stars Mortgage = 1 star. Total = 3 stars. read more

If you use their phone/ipad app, be careful when you make a deposit. I've had this problem for months and BECU has done nothing to correct this problem. Every single time I make an online deposit, it deposits it into the wrong account. Since I have my kids' account numbers on the list, it usually goes to one of them and getting it back takes weeks. It does no good to contact BECU because they always say there's nothing they can do about it. They treat you like you're an idiot and aren't working the app correctly, but read the reviews online at the app store. Horrible app. BECU used to be a good credit union. I've been a member for decades and for the majority of those years I was happy with their service. Now it appears they're outsourcing mortgages and other departments. Ugh. It's a credit union for the members, but they're outsourcing? How does that help us? I'm looking for a new credit union. BECU has gotten too big for its britches. read more

i heart BECU. if i could give them more stars, i would definitely do it. i referred so many people to BECU and they are raving the same as me. it's too good NOT to share with my family and friends. my reasons on why BECU is the best. 1. their online banking is so easy to read and use. 2. if you use another bank's ATM, the ATM will charge you a surcharge fee but BECU will not charge you. how awesome is that? 3. i love using their ATM is deposit my moola. envelope not necessary. yay! and they give you copy of the check on the slip. wow. talk about technology advancement. 4. i once came here toward the end of the day and the loan process was longer than expected. one of BECU employee chased me down to give me a $5.00 giftcard for my trouble. wow, who does that? 5. they give you interests on your checking AND saving. 6. they let you withdraw up to $500 in the ATM, other banks, it's like $300. i'm just saying, if you NEED to withdraw that much, you definitely can. 7. i recently had to deal with a dispute on a charge made by a merchant. since i paid with my debit card, i thought that i'm crap outta luck, but BECU investigated and credited me back what the merchant took. amaaazing. 8. the customer service staff are incredible. there is so many things to list. they are THE best! negative? we'll you aren't going to find any. =) read more

Wrote a check for $100, very legibly I might add. BECU decided to deduct $200 instead of the correct amount of $100 dollars. I called their customer care department who recognized they made an error and was suppose to be corrected by end of business day.... The best of the best - I have been a member for over 12 years now. I have since moved to LA and continue to use this credit union through the shared branching option. They really look out for their members and are always easy and pleasant to deal with. They caught fraudulent charges on my account quickly and when I had an issue processing a charge to my account with a 3rd party - BECU picked up the phone and called with me on the line. Simply said - AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE and I'll never bank anywhere else. read more

I am so disappointed in this credit union. I became a member in 2014 when I was approved for an auto loan. My first red flag should have been I almost got my truck repossessed 2 months after buying it because my information was entered wrong In their system and I was not allowed to make my first payment without proving my identity and jumping throw hoops to do it. After getting that straightened out I decided to apply for a credit card. I was approved for a smaller amount and because of good payment history I was offered and increased limit. I always paid more than the minimum payment via check. Over the last year I have been traveling more for work and the nearest BECU is over 3 hrs away from my home. I decided that paying by phone was more convenient for me. I have several other banks that I do business with via loans and credit credit cards and use the same system. Call me old school but I like to call and talk to someone. Since my auto loan is paid off I now call and ask what my minimum payment is due on my Visa and I either pay the minimum or a little more. Today 2/26/19 I got a call from BECU that I was 36 days past due on my Visa. I had just called the first of February to make a payment and I was told I didn't have any payments due, as I got to thinking 36 days past due was January and I knew I made a payment in January. After getting no where with the BECU rep I hung up and called again and got another rep. This rep was AWESOME. He explained to me that I have never missed a payment, I have just been making less than the minimum and the balance was getting Carried over as a late payment. I have not received a CC statement in years from BECU. I call and ask for the amount due every month, just like all 4 of my other banks. I found out today there have been a few different occasions I was told I owed a lower amount than I actually did which has resulted in a few dings on my credit report. The icing on the cake that there is something fishy happening, the first person on 2/26/18 told me I owed $410 to get current and the second person told me $660 to get current. I was at work and could not get my payment info until later so I called a third representative of BECU a few hours later to get my account current, when I told him I wanted to make a payment and get my VISA current he said I DIDNT OWE anything. After I got heated and threw a fit that I had already talked to two people that said I did, he was said " oh yes I do see her you so owe". How is that even a problem. I'm calling to make a payment and you can't see that I owe!!!! If I didn't know any better this is almost fraud, they are not giving me all of my information and then making money off late payments because they aren't giving me the correct amounts. I am totally sick to my stomach after the rep said I didn't owe when I knew for sure I owed. I feel so violated that I can't trust a bank. read more

Business services are a joke. Pay Coinstar in the lobby of a billion dollar member credit union. Give all the members money to part time workers. They are better benefits than any of the members employers provide and members get to pay for it. Walmart and Chase Bank Coinstars do it for free. If it wasn't for their online banking they wouldst be worth a crap. Call with an issue and all you get it offers of new expensive services. read more

This is the second time I have had a problem with this bank!! The people behind the desk have to go ask managers or so called leaders who don't even come out and talk to the customers. BECU is terioble to deal with for repos. I am currently forced to pay in full $16,000 for a car that's only worth $6000 they will not work with me.They move your vehicle with a horrible tow company who doesn't care about your materiel inside and who damage the car while towing it. without telling you which adds more fees. They are all talk like they want to help but really doesn't care about you at all. I wish you luck because I haven't had any. read more

Love BECU for our car loans as the rates and process were great. Unfortunately however, it's been over 4 months since we paid $450 for our house appraisal that is required for our refi...and we still have no close date or concrete timing on when this process will conclude. At this point I have no idea if our rate is still locked but I half expect to hear that it's been lost. We've talked to several other banks and their average refi close is 30-45 days...120 days and still counting is incredibly annoying. I have been a BECU customer for about 10 years. Last year, I applied a Visa credit card of $2500.00 to pay my tuition. As I write this review, I am frustrated because BECU actions have caused me so much stress over the weekend. After checking my statement, I noticed my credit debt has gone up to $2792.66. I called the customer service on Saturday to inquire And also visited Renton branch to seek help. I was told that they increased my credit to $3000 because they found out my credit is good and that I have to pay what is spent over $2500. Questions: 1. HOW CAN BECU INCREASE MY CREDIT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION? 2. WHY IS BECU PUTTING ME ON EXTRA DEBTS? PUTTING ME IN POVERTY? I only apply for a loan that I am capable of paying back. I don't just apply loans because I'm eligible. I limit myself to many debts and I am trying to stay out of debt. I only apply loans as needed not on availability. So, how can BECU make decisions for me without my permission? Who told them I needed extra money? 3. IS IT FAIR THAT BECU IS PUTTING ME IN DEBTS WHEN IM TRYING TO COME OUT OF IT?? 4. HOW CAN BECU BE SO FORCEFUL TO INCREASE MY CREDIT WITHOUT ME APPLYING FOR IT, WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION, WITHOUT MY SIGNATURE? 5. It's horrible to try and get any personal help at this place on a Saturday if you work Mon-Fri like me that is the only time I have. Long lines and NOT ENOUGH STAFF! Okay, so I'm yet another person saying this... but just in case you're one of the smart ones using Yelp to search before you start the process, here goes: DO NOT APPLY FOR A HOME LOAN THROUGH BECU! We are currently in the middle of the repeated asks for documentation, incomplete and repeated email/phone attempts to clarify our questions. They can't even get the house address or loan amount correct after repeatedly sending them the correct info. Ultimately we are now at risk of closing on our loan. To top it off, we are also at risk of identity theft because of BECUs poor handling of our sensitive financial documentation (including our SSNs). After multiple times of requesting to use secure lines of communication to transfer these documents, they still continue to send this type of information through un-protected emails. We are a loss of what to do, the appraisal has been ordered and we are less than 28 days until closing. ABSOLUTE CROOKS!! I just discovered this morning that I was charged a $20 fee for transferring MY OWN money from my savings to my checking. Something called an "Excess transfer fee"!????? First of all, NO bank should ever penalize anyone for moving their own money around. Its sleazy practices like this that prompted most of us to switch to a credit union in the first place. Like many people these days, I struggle to keep up with the enormous cost of living and struggle even harder to save. I often have to borrow money from my own savings account just to get by until next payday. It's not unusual for me to transfer small amounts, $10, $15, $20...whatever, from my savings for basic necessities like food and gas until I get paid again. After digging into their website to find out what this fee was for I was horrified to see that I had been penalized with this charge FIVE times costing me $100!!! And some of the transfers I made were for $10 while BECU charged me $20???! WHY would I ever allow BECU to charge me $20 for borrowing $10 from my OWN savings account if I had known this??? NOWHERE on their site does it state there is a limit to the number of transfers you're allowed to make and there certainly isn't ANY NOTIFICATION THAT A FEE WILL BE APPLIED, at least not until AFTER you've made the transfer and these fees are deducted from your savings (not your checking) so you don't even notice until it's too late. So here I am trying my HARDEST to increase my savings while the deposits I'm making are being taken right back out of my account without my knowledge. I'm sure to BECU $100 isn't a lot of money but for me IT IS. I am so disgusted by this! BECU likes to brand themselves as an institution that cares about the community and the financial goals of the people but what kind of organization ROBS hard working people of their money???? It's bad enough we all have to worry about hidden fees everywhere else but this is even worse. This isn't a "hidden fee", this is an invisible fee and they are despicable for doing this! If BECU actually cared about their members they would include a notification that pops up when transfers are made to assure everyone is aware of this. THERE ISN'T. Try it, you'll see. BECU clearly doesn't offer their members any compassion during these tough times because if they did they wouldn't gouge people with fees like this and at the very least they'd make sure people KNEW about them. I've never even had anything this bad when I was with Bank Of America. Maybe I need to switch back. I don't know what has happened to BECU but they are acting more like a regular, greedy bank than anything else and as a long-time member, I am highly insulted!!! read more

Went in to Tukwila to speak with a mortgage person about applying for a home mortgage. The lady we were assigned to made unpleasant snide comments to me and my fiancé. I'm disappointed by her lack of professionalism. I've been a banking member at BECU for 15+ years and normally receive friendly, professional service. Very unfortunate! Needless to say, we will NOT be utilizing their home-buying services! read more

I love BECU! Although I am an employee(so I'm partly biased)- their values and the way they treat their members is apparent. Its so great to work for a company and be a mbr of a credit union that really cares.
