Don't expect a good experience if seeking a mortgage. ESPECIALLY AS A FIRST TIME HOMEBUYER. This was a horrible experience from start to finish. We are first time home buyers and will leave "scarred" from our experience. Please be ready to do your own due diligence from the start to avoid any misunderstandings due to their lack of communication. Our loan officer was terrible with communication and was not forthcoming with info. Was tossed around to 3 other loan officers during the process of submitting paperwork. Got all the way to closing date and was told underwriting and appraisal was not complete and wasn't going to be complete for 3 more weeks. Expressed my frustrations and spoke with supervisors just to get an explanation since getting a hold of loan officer who is ASSIGNED was never available and didn't ever reply by email. The day after closing was told the property did not meet criteria. I paid for appraisal, inspection paid my Ernest funds and wasted 35 days of our time when all of this was could have been avoided. The criteria is there for a reason which shouldn't be checked one day after contract closing date. I will be closing my accounts here and refinancing auto loan elsewhere because of there sub-par almost predatory standards. I would choose Wells fargo over BECU and that is saying a lot!!!! read more

Are we the customers who fell through the cracks? We are in the middle of financing a house with BECU as our lender. We have had nothing but poor service and no help. Here is a list of issues: - We have been bounced around to what is now our 4th representative for our loan. - We have had to submit the same information multiple times because it seems they fail to communicate and transfer information. - MULTIPLE times we have tried to contact our officer by phone and email and have received no response. IF we do get a response it's two days later at an inopportune time (7:00am, 6:30pm). -We feel we have been kept in the dark on the progress of our loan. -None of the representatives have treated us like we are of any importance. - Certain information has been requested from us extremely late in the process. We are about to head to escrow and they are asking us for pay stubs for what will now be the third time. Really? You are just now asking for my 2009 W-2? If we weren't so deep into this process we would have gone with another lender. Also for being a bank that claims to be all about customer service and care I sure feel I would have been better off dealing with one of the bigger banks. I thought credit unions were supposed to be different. read more

I was a member at BECU for 7 yrs. I always had positive experiences with this credit union and always enjoyed being a customer. Last year, I opened an account for my minor child and was told that when she turned 18, her account would be her own. My daughter will soon be 19 and about a month or two back my daughter was promised some work and the person offered to give her a check. In exchange for this check, he told her he needed a few hundred dollars cash. Sadly, she fell for it. Of course the check bounced. I didn't know ANY of this until after it occurred. My daughter told me what had happened and I assumed BECU and my daughter were working this out, she lives on her own so it's not as though I know what all is going on. BECU certainly didn't call me and say, 'hey we need to make you aware of this issue with your daughters account and here's what could happen, here are some ideas/help, can you pay a bit each month? At any rate, yesterday I get a call from BECU demanding this money and they've removed ALL funds from ALL of my accounts along with funds from a mutual account I have with someone who is completely unrelated to any of this and am told I am now liable for this debt/scam that my adult daughter fell for. Apparently, it is their practice to leave parents on their adult children's accounts and it is a separate procedure to manually go in and remove yourself. Apparently, it is also their practice to not help their customers when they've fallen victim to a financial scam. Had it been a stolen credit card apparently that's different. The lady kept saying, "you are responsible for what you put in to your account.." yes, exactly--MY account and I didn't put this check into any of those accounts. There was NO procedure nor any offer of any payment plan. I am extremely shocked and disappointed in BECU so my apologies if my review seems a bit rushed, but I'm still so taken aback I haven't quite regained footing yet, but wanted to be sure to alert consumers.. So, now here I am with a new baby, just returning to work after a leave of absence due to maternity/disabilities with no gas or food money for me or my family until payday. read more

Do not use the Boeing Employee Credit Union [BECU] phone application. You do not know where your money is going to go. Oh, they will EVENTUALLY get it back for you, but if you need to do something right now and their application put it in the wrong account, you are out of luck because you just became a bad customer. DIFFICULT FOR DEPLOYED SOLDIERS!!! Before Deploying to Afghanistan I responsibly put all of my finances in order. My grandmother received a notice from BECU that I still needed to provide my vehicle FULL Coverage Insurance, even though it was sitting in storage. Being that I was located in an area where mail call was MOSTLY once a month, I did not receive this notice in a timely manner - IMAGINE THAT! Now that I am at a location where I can check my e-mail and FINALLY call home, to my dismay, I find a 3330.00 charge added to my auto loan and the following occurred: - That increased my monthly payment by over 50% - As a result of the increased payment they DID NOT apply my regular monthly payment for two months - They charged me late fess - And expect State Farm, my insurance company, to back date my full coverage to prove I had full coverage on the vehicle while I was still in Afghanistan! This is beyond unacceptable and painful to deal with while DEPLOYED. If you are a Soldier or anyone who travels overseas, WALK AWAY FROM THIS INSTITUTION! Not to mention, their online banking in an additional frustration. It is not user friendly, it's difficult to understand, other than when they clearly tack on a bunch of unnecessary charges. BECU has shown me they will do ANYTHING TO MAKE A BUCK and are difficult to work with DEPLOYED SOLDIERS! DID I MENTION I STILL HAVE TO PAY OUT A $66.00 LATE CHARGE DUE TO THEIR ERROR?!? DO NOT USE BECU MORTGAGE SERVICES!! I have all of my accounts at BECU, so when my husband and I decided to start looking for a home to buy we applied with BECU. After filling out our application it took two weeks (and a couple of phone calls by us) before we heard anything from our loan specialist. We sent over all the required paperwork and began shopping for a house. We had an offer accepted on a house and our realtor contacted our loan specialist to verify what kind of mortgage we would be getting (Conventional, FHA etc.) The inspection on the home didn't go well so we ended up cancelling the contract. A few days later I get a voice mail from a BECU realtor about our new loan application. We were confused as we hadn't filled out any new applications. When I tried to log into our application online it was showing as inactive. As our loan specialist NEVER communicated with us about anything or explained the mortgage process to us at all I began to get frustrated. I sent her an email asking what was going on. After a few days I got no response, no phone call. I sent a email to the entire home loan department. Still no response. My husband and I received paperwork in the mail for a new loan application from BECU that we were supposed to sign and return. We had no idea we would be receiving any paperwork. We had no idea what it was for. No one would tell us what was going on and what to expect. We called and got hold of our loan specialist and asked why she hadn't let us know what was going on or replied to my email. She laughed at me and told me she had been too busy to reply to my email. I asked if she though it was professional not to reply to customers or let them know what is happening with the application process. She laughed more and said "As I said I have been busy." She continued laughing and offered to give me the log in information for our new loan application that we were not informed about. I asked for her managers name. She was still laughing as she gave me that information and then laughed as she offered to transfer me to her manager. At this point I hung up and called customer service to complain. I was extremely upset at this point. Customer Service had the manager from the mortgage department call me. She apologized and said she went over the phone call with our loan specialist. Then she made excuses for why the loan specialist was laughing (like maybe she was smiling while she talked?? Not sure why you're smiling when dealing with a frustrated customer?!) Then she explained why we had a new loan application. I tried telling her I didn't care why, what bothered me was the total lack of communication. I should have been told about it before receiving random paperwork in the mail. I'm not sure she really understood. They have very low standards for customer service in the mortgage department. I applied at Sound Credit Union that day. I got a call back from a loan specialist from Sound that day. I got a pre qualification letter that day. The process was explained to me that day. Any questions I have had since then have been answered promptly. The people at Sound Credit Union's mortgage department actually care about their customers and you can tell. Dealing with the people at BECU's mortgage department was the worst customer service experience of my life. read more

yes, have accounts with them. Yes, their interest rates on their products are better than other financial institutions and that is why I have accounts with them (as well as other banks). However, that is about all the pluses that I can find. Biggest complaints - 1. not enough locations where you can do 'actual' and 'real banking' with real tellers. Going into BECU branches without an appointment can be a further frustrating experience so I highly recommend that if you DO want to talk to a real person, then make an appointment. Otherwise it could be a very long wait. And most of the branch locations do not have adequate parking. 2. They only show one phone number - do not and will not show branch numbers or other departmental numbers (like if you are calling about a credit card problem). So if you have been talking to a particular person, trying to call them directly is almost an impossible undertaking since it appears ALL calls go to one single number where a phone representative trys to help you (so, in other words, if it is detailed transactional question, you have to tell them your whole entire situation all over again. 3. Most of the times when I call the one phone number, they are busy and unable to answer. You can either stay on hold, or call back at a later time. Today, since I was unable to get on to the online banking, I tried calling but their system was overwhelmed and I was told to either go to online banking (hey- it isn't working that is why I am CALLING!), or because they are too busy, call back at another time. What kind of financial institution doesn't have a system in place that can at least get phone calls answered in a timely manner????? read more

Do not use BECU for a mortgage. Went into the downtown Bellevue branch, walked through the application with one of the tellers and was told I would be contacted within 3-5 days for my pre-approval letter. 5 days later I get an email from a loan processor asking for a few documents and was told I could go on to the website and: "Authorize Processing, pay the appraisal fee, and lock your loan! Once you have done this, I will move your file forward to processing". When I went on to the website none of this was there so I emailed the loan processor but never heard back. A day later I called, left a message and never heard back. Then I emailed again and never heard back. Then I called again and of course never heard back. Finally I went to another bank and got a pre-approval within 5 hours!! BECU not only wasted over a week of my time but they pulled my credit twice and delayed me from making an offer on a home. This bank is an absolute joke. You'll be much better served going somewhere else with better rates and better customer service. read more

Beware the unexperienced loan officers here. They will not crunch the numbers for you, you have to lead them to the better loan option. The "offer" made to the wife and I was absolutely ridiculous. It included $14,000 in closing cost and points buydown. Making our refi a terrible option and would save us almost nothing. The guy handling our loan was nice enough, but was on vacation and seemed to have little experience. They did not run the numbers to find us a better deal or offer to lower the points, it seemed to be a take it or leave it attitude. So I called Quicken Loans and started the process with them. After getting a much better quote, I called BECU and spoke to an employee in the home loan department and stated that I had a much better offer from a bank and is there anything that can be done to make their offer more competitive. He says they are not a bank and that they have to act in the best interest of their members, basically a tag line from their commercial. He then said if I had a better offer then go with somebody else. So I followed up with Quicken Loans, sent a semi-nasty email to the BECU loan officer, and moved on . Miraculously, they contact me later and say that they are going to look at the loan again and what do you know....they come up with a great offer. Why wasn't this the first offer? By this time I'm ready to close with Quicken. So I'm closing with Quicken. The refi still cost me more than I would've liked, but I definitely got a better deal than the BECU offer. My advise is this....run the number with just you on the loan and then with your spouse, you will be surprised at the difference in cost this can make. They will not offer this option, you must request it. If the points buydown is too high, demand a slightly higher rate and have them revise and crunch the numbers. They will not act in your best interest. Not for profit is not non profit. I'm still salty about the apparent negligent/malicious loan preparation. read more

I've banked with BECU since 2011. I recently refinanced my home I started this process in Oct. Communication between my "personal loan specialist " and I has been terrible. Multiple times I've been told she would "get right back to you" or " I just need a few minutes" only to wait hours or somtimes days to hear back unless I initiate contact. It's now 8 days past my closing date and will be another few days minimum. I selected BECU for the ease of having all my accounts with one institution. i started my refi paper in early Feb, 2013. now, three mos later it's still in pending. purchased loan have higher priority. they took out appraisal fee in early March, now i am stuck with them. i called the loan official about my loan status and i was told that the closing date may happen in late June but no promise because they are really busy. Other company would close your loan between 30-45 days, with BECU it would take at least 100 days to forever. i locked in when the rate was low , in late June the lock expired. Don't know if this is why BECU don't want to close my loan. i made a bad decision to go with BECU for my refi, if i picked the other company, my loan would has been closed by now. With BECU i have to play the "waiting game" with them without an end date. read more

A few months ago while traveling for work I forgot to make one car payment. I was working 50-60 hours a week out of state for that month. I have made payments since and even paid extra not even realizing I had not paid one payment. I received mail from BECU but I had been paying so figured they were just statements and didnt even open them. Today my car was repossessed for the one missed payment. Intially I felt stupid and was willing to not only pay the missed payment but the cost of them towing the car. Figured that was fair since I messed up and I wanted my car back. I have been a good on time minus the one hick up. Called today and was told pay full 30,000 balance or car is going to auction. I apologized for the late payment, offered to pay the payment plus tow fees. Lady told me it was not negotiable and full balance no other options. This is completely unreasonable for one missed payment. I again offered to fix the missed payment in full and pay tow fees. She responded only full payment of loan all at once. I get legally you can but in my mind this is completely unreasonable. Thanks for being great to a veteran now hard working person who is generally responsible. This bank claims to be business friendly. It is not (at least in my case). I run a small car service and when time came for expansion, I went to BECU to obtain loans for two cars. They told me they do not provide equipment loans. I was shocked. This seems so wrong but that's exactly what I was told. Another thing that disappointed me was the lack of online services for business. For example, you can pay bill online if you have personal checking, but you can't do the same with business checking. They do not have any business checking online services. Recently, I went to apply for business Visa. I first spoke with Blake (spelling) about it and found out what I need to submit. I called him and never got call back in two days. I decided to turn in my application. A week later, I did not hear from them and I went to their main branch to check on the status of my application. They could not find it. Carol, who was assisting me that day, found an application 30 minutes later in the drawer of another representative. What she could not find was a financial statement for Q1 of this year that I attached to my application. Today I received a letter from them notifying me that my application for business credit card was withdrawn per my request. This bank sucks for business owners. I would recommend them for personal checking but NOT for business. read more

If you require NO service, NO availability, and bad attitude for your banking needs BECU is for you! They make Bank of America and Wells Fargo look good, and that is saying something. If you live anywhere west of I-5 from downtown Seattle to as far south as Des Moines. BECU offers the convenience of ONE staffed location to cover this gigantic area. What this means to you? A scenic drive to a Safeway in White Center to visit a "financial center" the size of a large walk in closet. You can look forward to a consistent wait of 45-60 minutes for any kind of assistance. To be fair to the poor employees working in this penal colony it is not their fault. Having one location serving this large of a geographic area, with generally about 3 employees working, they do the best they can. I am guessing they got into trouble somewhere else in the company and have been assigned here as a punishment. I wish there was a zero star rating. After six years as a member of BECU I cannot close my accounts fast enough. I'd like to work with a real bank. One with at least one location in a neighborhood. One that values my business. Maybe one that does not require a 30 minute drive each way and a wait of an additional hour to get banking services? Two hours of my time for a simple service is just not worth it. I love that I have been on hold with their customer service right now (2p on a Tuesday) for 40 minutes. It has given me time to multi task and write this review. BECU I love you! And with my great hatred for Chase I have already converted 4 Chase customers into loyal BECU members. Mwaahahaha. Ok, maybe I'm a little crazy but I seriously disdain Chase. BECU has so many free services that they provide and SPECTACULAR customer service. They have many partner banks where you can do your banking if you are traveling or if you are just nowhere near a BECU and they have a great online banking program complete with online deposits (where you scan your checks). Also, they do a wonderful job if your credit card is lost (or stolen) or if you need help with fraudulent charges. They even call immediately after making a large transaction to assure that it is not a fraudulent charge. In the meantime, they put your card on hold until you call (or answer their call) and let them know that nope, it was you and not a thief. They also have great protections on your credit and debit cards for bad purchases (such as an item you bought online that turned out to be counterfeit and the seller refused to refund the money). Not to mention they're ALWAYS friendly whether it is in person at a branch, over the phone, or over chat on their online banking service. I have high expectations now for BECU and they always meet and/or exceed them! read more

Like most yelpers i'm only motivated by very positive or very negative experiences, so here i am today- rather pissed to say the least. When contemplating switching to BECU, be prepared for a no-frills experience. VERY NO-FRILLS. Coming from a major bank, i had expectations of things that banks were supposed to do. I am finding out the hard way that these expectations should not extend to credit unions. After switching our checking and savings accounts, my wife and I decided to switch our auto loan to BECU out of a desire to never give USAA another cent of our money, ever. BECU was very quick to approve and issue a payoff to USAA. However, here's where the trouble also began. Nearly a month later, we received the title to our vehicle. Confused, we contacted BECU since they should have received it. We were (rudely) told by the rep that it was our job to go to Licensing, pay $30 and get a new title issued, which we would then need to drop off at a BECU branch. Needless to say, none of this was ever communicated to us. The rep also informed us that since we had exceeded 30 days, our interest rate was upped to 19+ percent (again, not communicated to us). I am irate and my wife and i now have to bail out of work to immediately take care of this, which has me seriously rethinking my poor decision to give BECU our business. It has caused me to absolutely rule out refinancing our home loan with them as well as our lines of credit. I still have an expectation of some basic services and they are apparently not part of the program at BECU. Color this customer disappointed, very disappointed. read more

BECU is the worst credit union. If you have loved ones and need to incorporate power of attorney or need to work with them on an estate, they will not respond quickly. If you have loved ones and want to make sure they can access and pay bills, move to another credit union or bank. They are the worst that I have ever dealt with. By delaying, they keep your assets on their books longer. Ever wonder why they don't have direct extensions, think again. I would give them 0 stars if possible. All other institutions have been easy to work with. If you want to make things easy on your loved ones, switch banks. read more

Been a BECU member for over 40 years. Over the last 3 years, my credit card has had to be replaced 3 times for fraud, What this did is get me to stop using my BECU credit card, NOW, as I never look at it, BECU put a $75.00 rewards fee on my 0 balance card and then put 2 late fees on the fee they put on the card! I paid it off and closed the account, now I find out my almost perfect credit report dropped 100 points because of this $75.00 fee! 40 years and they did not have time to call me and ask why I had not paid when I have never missed a payment, and oh, they waited 2 months before sending me a letter saying I had not paid! Sad to leave BECU, but they offer me nothing like it used to be. They have become to big to give a rip! read more

BECU as a whole is generally a great bank. But, I can only find 4 stars as my rating when looking at all services together when one's end goal would be to utilize the CU for all of their primary needs: checking, savings, credit card, auto loan. I've been with BECU since approximately 2008. I've lived in Seattle, Texas, and am back in California. I will never switch away from BECU. With CU Service Centers, online deposits, and mobile deposits I've never had a problem getting checks that I've received deposited. Over the years, I've had my ATM limits increased, daily spending limits increased (especially in an emergency when I had put money down on a car on my debit card, one call and I was able to buy gas for that car 15 minutes later after it denied due to spending limits). I've also been a victim of fraud on my debit card, which BECU had sorted out in less than 48 hours. It's a scary thing when your money disappears, and BECU made it reappear in record time. I've had a few NSF's, of which BECU did not charge absorbent fees against, and they have covered every one of them so that no fees were incurred by the place they NSF'ed against. Now, I'm certainly not recommending anyone count on this practice, I said a few, and I mean like three over the course of the years. So, I would have to rate their checking services 5-stars. Even my online deposits, after a year of making them, are available just about instantly. Huge props to BECU for recognizing our relationship with you and rewarding us for being responsible and loyal, on the checking side of things. Oh, and when you call, you get a live person pretty dang fast. BECU online banking is the best there is. Super clear and easy to use. Bill Pay payments are processed on the day they reach the person being paid. When you're money is tight, this helps keep bills paid on time as the payment date is literally the date the money leaves your account. It gives you a lot of breathing room! The available balance is always pretty close to dead-on against what I've spent and hasn't cleared yet. The only strange thing is how long it can take for a payment to my BECU credit card to hit. The one thing I would expect to be instantaneous, is not. It's next day if both days are banking days. I just wish they had more faith in their members and extended credit a little easier. It feels like you need a 700 fico to get any loans with them, and this is where they aren't helping their members. Everywhere you read it's supposed to be easier to get a CU loan than a bank loan. I've looked to them as I've rebuilt my credit from 2008, and the only thing I was ever approved for was a tiny limit on their credit card. Most recently, we attempted a joint loan for something small, I think $2,000. The whole point of it was to dig out of high interest debt incurred from our most recent move. After two days of speaking with BECU, we were denied. A month later we we're approved for a major bank card with 0% balance transfers and a $3,000 limit. Needless to say, we achieved our goals, but not at the hands of BECU. Our credit utilization is down to 20%, we've gotten out from crazy interest and a huge bump in FICO's. Just wish it had been BECU to the rescue, rather than BECU to the higher standards and easier use of the word denied. Lastly, what I don't get is when they deny you, it's been nice to be acknowledged that my credit isn't bad. I got a small lecture about how I'd get approved if I bought a cheaper car. But, I didn't really get numbers and figures or any advice on where I would need to be at in order to get approved or what dollar amount/car I could buy and get approved. They host a ton of seminars, but when it comes to actually servicing members on their individual needs, there's little definitive advice given. To summarize: Banking services - 5 stars Online services - 5 stars Customer support for banking - 5 stars Loan products and approval - 3 stars (at least I got a credit card with them? lol, i'm questioning my 3 stars, feels more like 1 star, but i'll run with 3 as part of me just thinks they're protecting themselves and members with stringent requirements, even if the requirements to get approved are unknown to their members) read more

SMALL financial institution with limited technical capabilities: OK with day-to-day automated functions including ATM deposits/withdrawals, simple online banking functions and local telephone support. I also have my mortgage with them and am satisfied. It is when you step outside of the very ordinary when you hit the wall. Examples: Limited online transaction history: When doing my tax return, I attempted to download the tax year transactions in a format (.CSV) usable in a spreadsheet only to find that BECU makes only 90 days of history available. The standard response from Customer/technical Services is you can download pdf statements for up to 10 years. Whoopee! You then can manually block and copy (one-statement-at-time) the data into your spreadsheet. Limited access to funds from international ATMs: Nothing is more disconcerting than being in a foreign country and discovering that you are unable to access your funds with your BECU MasterCard debit card. I was recently in Laos, excited about my first foray out of the capital city, Vientiane. I had stumbled across an ATM that gave me some local currency before I left. (FYI, most businesses in Laos do not accept credit/debit cards and those that due charge a 3% fee). After a 6-hour bus ride and failed withdrawal attempts the next day at the MasterCard ATMs in the city where I first planned to do some touring, I had to give up, aborting my plan to visit the southern part of the country, and return to the capital (another 6-hour bus ride) to get cash. After no responses to my customer service emails (the weekend and time zone differences got in the way, no doubt), I found a random email address on the BECU website and received a response a couple of days later from a BECU employee whose job responsibilities have nothing to do with customer service, and he was able to connect me to someone who tried to help me. Unfortunately, the best they could do was give me locations of the few ATMs owned by a bank with which BECU could connect (ANZ-my first withdrawal was from one of their machines - only by chance did I stumble across it). I withdrew a brick of money, $10M Kip ($1,300 US), before leaving the City again to finance the rest of my time in the country. BECU's been on the decline of customer service for years. I opened my first account with them when I was 18, back when you had to be a Boeing employee or direct family member. Back then they had good service both in person and in the phone. They also had amazing return rates on both checking and savings accounts. Then they opened up to the public and all the rates dropped big time. I was getting 4% on my savings and over night BAM! 0.4%. Unreal. But I continued to stick it out. I also had a Visa card through them but never had a problem with that. My big mistake was getting a car loan through them. They made it beyond hard to change my payment date from the end of the month to the middle. Multiple phone calls and 2 trips to a branch location just to change my payment date? Really? Bad deal. Then I moved to Oregon. BECU drug their feet so bad in communicating with the state about the title that my car sat in my driveway for a month unable to be driven since it was registered in Oregon. I've been with them now for 16 years and today was the last straw. Their mobile banking locked me out of my account for the last few days while on a business trip. They started asking a bunch of security questions out of nowhere. These are questions I haven't answered in years and years. "enter my phone number?" Ok no prob. Oops, I got locked out for getting that one wrong too many times. Yeah, it's a number I had 10 years ago. Dumb. So that's it, I'm going to a local credit union here in Portland and transferring all my money to them. Buuuuh-bye BECU! read more

Been a customer for 10 plus years and can't wait to leave. They have really gone down hill over the years and deserve the bad yelp rating. Among the many issues they just charged me a $32 fee to pay off my boat loan! WTF? I thought they were supposed to be pro customer? Horrible for a car loan! I just applied for a car loan and was approved in 10 minutes however the person (Allison) that was working on my paperwork did not send the original documents to Toyota financial. The documents was for Washington State title change. I had the documents signature guaranteed at the bank and had someone hand deliver it to her. How do you now know that the State requires original documents? Are you new at this and why did you not follow up to make sure everything was in good order? I even called her 5 minutes later so I don't understand why the originals were not sent. Now I can't get anyone to call me back and I am truly frustrated. Horrible! I am now working on buying a home and I was going to take out a mortgage with the credit union but since this horrible experience I don't think that will be happening anytime soon. I will probably go with Wells Fargo mortgage company. read more

I wanted to give an update as I received word that our loan should close in the next few days. I sincerely appreciate BECU's response to my review as well as our loan officer, Richard for getting our loan refi completed. Even though they were backed up and we did not get updates as often as I wished, he followed through on his promise to get to our loan. His follow- up restored our faith in our credit union and we are so grateful to BECU in handling both our refis. They listened and responded so I truly give them five stars. I was with them for over ten years, because they had good rates. I never had a bounced check, I had a heloc through them that I paid off, always paid my credit on time and have an excellent credit score. When I requested a mortgage on a new purchase, they refused, after giving me an online approval. The reason was inadequate income, even though the new mortgage would have been less than my current one!? Then I requested a car loan, I had three different people contacted me and ask the same questions and the way they treated me was very impersonal and distrustful, so I paid cash, it was such a hassle. It took me over an hour to close most my accounts with them, and am still working on closing two more. They will not accept email, only fax or in person, although docusign is legal in the state of WA. They do no look outside the box, everything is very cut and dry with them, there is no grey area, everything is "That is our policy." If service is not important to you, you just do online banking and you don't mind being just another number, then this may be the bank for you. But after years of putting up with them, I'm done!! read more

I have been a BECU member for the past 10 years and have had a positve experience. Therefore, I decided to finance my home loan with them. This was a terrible decision and one that will have lasting consequences. I suggest you find a mortgage broker if you would like personalized care and timelines met. Perhaps BECU has grown too fast to meet the needs of its customers. It has moved away from a credit union mentality tona big bank mentality. As well, I have experienced a marked increase in wait times and marked decrease in customer service, and failed Online services. When rates drop I will refinance eIsewhere so that BECU does not make money from my home loan. I used to recommend BECU, but won't any longer. read more

I have always love BECU. I must say that I will NEVER EVER recommend them or do a refinance through them ever again. I began the process 3/12/12 and I am still going through it an it is Aug. 7 2012. I have given them $595. I did this so I could get my payments lower but in the mean time I am giving them money and seeing no relief. They are really rude and say that ALL refi's are taking a long time and its not their fault. I have been quick to give information and fax over items as soon as it is asked for. I have been a BECU customer since 1987, more than 25 years. I cannot express how sad I am to see their decline from a personalized credit union to a Bank of America wanna-be. I have become more and more irritated over the last few years with the growing inaccessibility to actual people in the system. The "make a choice" options trees seem to go on forever before you get to a human being. If you really have a problem that requires a human solution, prepare to spend at least a half hour going through the "wickets" of making selections. After more than 25 years with BECU, I am calling it quits. Since I am retired military as well as retired Boeing, I have other options where service is taken seriously. I am in the process of moving all my banking, savings, loans, cards, and payments to that other service. I started questioning a credit card charge on my account a month ago. The cable company that BECU claims made the charge (Time Warner Cable) ran their internal checklist and query, determined they did not make the charge and have no record of such a charge, and responded within a week. This is a CABLE COMPANY, you understand. They had the answer back to me including the ticket number for the query within that week. BECU, on the other hand, working through some bizarre connection to an off-site credit card dispute company, has created a black hole that's impenetrable by mere humans. The "dispute form" and some cryptic directions have been handled for three weeks, now, and BECU has no update to my file even indicating they got it (I have an electronic email proving they did). What's more, calling the BECU card dispute line only gets you a person who looks at the little sprinkling of data, and has no idea what's actually happening, and doesn't appear to be able to directly contact anyone in the "real" card dispute company offsite. They transfer you to a phone number that generally goes unanswered, then ends with a terse statement they may call you back in 48 hours. Mind you, BECU is the only one claiming the charge was made to my card, NOT Time Warner Cable! TWC flatly denies they made such a charge. So, what's the big problem? I say I didn't authorize the charge, and TWC says they made no such charge. This thing, so far, is only a figment of BECU's imagination. BECU closed my card account and issued another card, yet the new account still has the charge. We're not designing rockets, here folks! This latest issue is just the topping on the cake. BECU has completely given over customer service to the recorded voices on the "pick an option" recordings, and seems to have a fairly endless supply of those recordings. It has become more and more difficult over the years to get actual service from BECU - as in a real person. When you get lucky and actually do make contact with a real person, your problem can usually be resolved satisfactorily and within two minutes. Getting that real person, however, is a distinct challenge. This dispute issue where the answer would seem cut and dried by an eighth-grader has cost me easily twelve hours on the phone and is no closer to resolved than when I started. That is NOT customer service! Based on my experiences, I would not recommend BECU to a new or existing customer. read more

The people writing reviews on here seem to have experienced an entirely different bank than I have. BECU has always been excellent for me. I have never had problems with loans, credit cards, or accounts that I have had with this company from when I joined as a child. Each time I go in they are welcoming and wonderful. Most recently I was looking for a car loan. Managed to get preapproved on a Saturday within about fifteen minutes of getting to the location. read more
