The last time I left my babies here is the last time I will ever use them..Something changed they used to be great with my older dog.but my two younger ones not so much.my middle one could not bark for months are I picked him up .I called and never could get an answer as to what happened to him.it is also around the time I was loosing my older dog in there care .No I am not blaming them but I do feel they nickel and dime me at a very difficult time. read more

If you drive up to a place and it feels creepy, it's probably creepy, and you should leave. If the b'jillions of dogs barking outside are so loud that you can't even hear yourself think, that's too many dogs, and you should probably leave. If the front door is all broken down and has 100 year old dirt on it, that's unkept, and you should probably leave. If you still go in and it stinks to high heaven, that's not sanitary, and you should probably leave. If they come to get your 19 lb. pup with a rope leash that's big enough to fit a German Shepherd, what's up with that? You should say something. If they won't take your dog back until you leave, why? You should ask. If you are trying to get your keys and vet records together and the lady in the back says loudly, "Bye mom! Bye Mom! Bye mom! Bye Mom! Bye mom! Bye Mom!" over and over and over, and you find yourself saying loudly back, "Okaaaay! I'm going!", just grab your dog and leave. I didn't follow my instincts and I worried the whole time I was gone. When I got back (on time), I could see my dog up on the grooming table as soon as I walked in the door, and he saw me. I sat down on a chair to wait, and I was asked to go sit in my car before my dog sees me. I said, "He already saw me." And he was fine. They said, "Well go ahead and go anyway so he doesn't get more worked up." He wasn't "worked up". I was looking right at him. He didn't even move! I had to go sit in the car and wait for them to bring me my dog with a wet head. I said, "His head is wet." I was told, "Yeah, we don't like to put the dryer on their face too much." Then she took him back and put the dryer on his face. And his hair was STILL wet afterward. His privates were not trimmed, his fur was all uneven, his tail was completely frizzed up like I have never seen, his nails were blunt cut and ch (and not drimmeled like I had asked), and the fur between his toes was a mess. I was so upset that I did not follow my instincts to just take my dog and leave. I could have avoided this whole mess. I paid my bill, I did not tip - at all (which I NEVER do), I drove home feeling so guilty, and I did the best I could trimming up my dog to look halfway decent. He is a cute dog, so he'll still be cute, but his "groom job" was not good. I've been home for over an hour now and I can still smell that nasty smell from this place. If you have options, go somewhere else. Don't do what I did. read more

Bed & Biscuit Pet Spa, Black Mountain is simply Amazing ! Whether it is day care, grooming, or boarding it is the Best. Our younger terrier/terror Eddie starts squealing as we turn in the drive and can't wait to see Ellen the owner or Sara, senior staff. He loves playing in the paddock with friends he has made there, and it is a big part of his life. Our older guy Gus loves his walks along the river. What has impressed us most, is that it is obvious the owner and every person on staff are not just there for a job, but are there because they have a passion for animals and for what they are doing. I never write a bad review, however, I feel the need to try to protect others who want to know the truth about Bed and Biscuit. I do think the girls who come to get your pet, are very loving and try to do the best they can and I am not sure what the inside workings of the place are but it is not very sanitary as far as I can see and that isn't much since you are not allowed to go inside. My dog's first groom was acceptable but each time I picked her up, there was just a sense that something wasn't right. The last time I picked her up, I couldn't even tell she had been groomed or bathed and called and asked and they said yes (I knew that wasn't true) but even more troubling, she has been sick ever since and I had to take her to the doctor who had to put her on medicine for her swollen throat and congestion as she had probably caught something at the groomer. I took her to another groomer about a week later (after being on meds) and the groomer couldn't believe she had just been groomed a week before as her paw pads weren't done, nor her sanitary area or around her face, etc. I am sad to write this review, but there is something going on there that isn't okay and I am not sure what it is but would advise people to be aware of your feelings. We LOVE bed and biscuit! My Aussie has been going here for almost 4 years for occasional overnights to as long as 10 day stays! We have absolutely never had a single issue and that says a lot! Our Aussie has extreme anxiety and fear of strangers. He gets aggressive easily and is very protective. If I even utter the words "bed and biscuit" he goes crazy with excitement!! I find the location to be very pleasant and quiet, perfect for a dog get away! Not only do they have different levels of options for your dogs stay, but they also offer group playtime or walks 2x a day. All of their employees are incredibly friendly courteous. I've kept three of my dogs here over the past eight years. One of my girls LOVES the kennel and is excited every time I take the exit for Swannanoa because she thinks she's coming to Bed & Biscuit! My other old lady is less fond of excitement and socializing, but still jumps out of the car and runs to the door every time we pull up. I trust the staff here. As for the reviews criticizing noise levels, etc... I'd be much more concerned if I pulled up to a kennel and DIDNT hear dogs barking! Thanks for everything y'all do! I recently used Bed & Biscuit to board my two hounds. I would use the facility again if I must, but will not use them exclusively. The staff that I dealt with were friendly. The cost was ridiculous considering I wanted to board my dogs together, was told that there most expensive suite was the only one large enough, and then charged full price for both dogs! This is unfortunate since I could have paid the same price, boarded my dogs separately, and cost the kennel a room that they could have boarded to someone else. I didn't see the accommodations but was overwhelmed by the stink of excrement when walking into the front office. I think my pups were cared for well while there, but will not be returning unless there are no alternatives. read more

I left my 12 year old Shih Tzu here for a long weekend and will never take him back again! I paid for a "Suite" since he is older and needs more quiet and alone time. When I checked in I asked to see his room and was told that the dogs were too agitated for someone to walk through but that I could take a tour when I picked him up. I now know that I should have insisted as I never would have left him had I saw the "Suite" beforehand. I also had to pay for three full days since the facility does not open until 2pm even though I could have picked him up first thing Sunday morning. (If someone is there to feed the dogs why can't you pick them up) So when I picked him up and toured the facility is was nothing like was described on their website. The "Suite" was a larger kennel but still in the same general area with the rest of the barking dogs. On the website it was described as "Furnished with a large daybed with a bolster bed attached, hand-crafted night stand that also provides food and water and Animal Planet broadcasting on a private television. A suite is the largest, quietest room we offer." I have no clue how this room is considered quiet and the private television was a tiny TV from the 80's attached to the ceiling of his pin and the only furnishings was a cot and a bucket of water. When I picked up my poor dog at 2 pm his left eye was almost completely crusted over with green goop and my concern is that he either didn't get fed Sunday morning or the person who fed him couldn't have been bothered to wipe his eye. When I got home, 30 minutes away, I noticed that they had not sent his antibiotics back with him so he didn't get his medicine this morning as I didn't have time to drive back yesterday to pick them up. I guess this place is better than having your dog stay in a crate all weekend but not by much. I will never take him there again and would not recommend to anyone I know. read more

After reading the reviews I was apprehensive about leaving my dogs here for the day. However, my husband and I decided to check it out before making a decision. When we arrived, another customer was dropping off her pet and assured us it was "fine"! However, when we went in to check in our pets, the person at the front desk was not very friendly. She was the groomer as well, and left the dog she was working on on the table, noose around its neck, while she came out front. Maybe that's okay, but it disturbed me. I asked about the accommodations; she explained the different options, but said that since our dogs were only staying for the day, we did not have a choice of which area they would be in. From the description on their website, one would think that their pets were staying in the lap of luxury. However, after reading the review by Charlene, I asked that we see the rooms that they had. She took us for the "tour" and my husband and I were not happy with what we saw. Chain link kennels along each side of a walkway. It was dark... I saw no "spa", no comforts or luxury... just basically what you would see at an animal shelter. We were so upset, and I told the girl that there was no way we could leave our pets there! Maybe we spoil our pets too much and our expectations of those we pay to care for them in our absence is too high. But both of our dogs are rescues and we could not put them in a place that would be reminiscent of what they had been rescued from. read more

We asked to have dog groomed and washed with a significant nail trim but when I picked him up 5 days later they said they couldn't do his nails but did not offer to reduce the grooming charge. We've had four dogs over two decades stay at B and B. They are like family. They've all been excited when they get there and come home happy and content. We've had a lot of business and recreational travel. I don't know how we could have done it without Ellen and the staff. The grooming is great too. I worked here for several months. The staff genuinely care about each dog, most of which have been returning for years. My complaints are with the owner Ellen Frost. The way she treats her staff is unprofessional and plain disrespectful. I've witnessed her belittle a manager, who has worked there for over 7 years. Ellen is unpredictable; if she is stressed she takes it out on the staff. I tried to be understanding, since she is on trial and may face up to 20 years in prison, but no amount of stress should excuse the unfair treatment of your employees. I'm concerned she is taking advantage of her staff for her own personal wants. Each day I worked the manager would leave to pick up after and I believe let Ellens' dogs back into her house, which is located near the facility. I'd been tasked with raking her yard, which I'm certain was not in the job description. I attempted suicide during the time I worked here and understandably called out of work for the next day. I contacted a manager, explained what happened and that I was okay but needed time to get myself together. I gave her permission to tell Ellen what happened since I did not have her number and it was 4 in the morning. Ellen never reached out or directly asked how I was doing. She had the manager ask me to bring in a doctor's note. I didn't go to the doctor's because I did not want to be hospitalized and in return miss more work. When I went back to work Ellen, instead of confronting me herself, came to the office and asked the manager if I brought in the note. When she told her I didn't, she had the manager tell me to bring it in. I understand wanting an excused absence but why would I lie about such a personal and difficult situation. I'd proven that I was a dedicated employee, and her lack of trust was insulting to say the least. Despite everything, I would still recommend bringing your pets here. While the kennel is in need of some TLC, I assure you the staff will take great care of your dogs and take the time to get to know them, which I'm not sure you can say about other places. read more

Love my dogs, but recognize that I shouldn't expect businesses that deal with 15+ animals at the same time to pamper them as I do. They got meals, a comfy cot, plenty of water and time to play outside. My frustration comes from the last time they stayed there... they came home infested with fleas. I am pretty careful about keeping them free from parasites like ticks, worms and fleas, so I am certain they didn't enter B&B with the bugs. But once I got them home it was non-stop scratching and gnawing. I called the office about this and they responded as though they weren't surprised. They weren't apologetic nor did they offer any future discounts to appease my frustration, as other kennels might. One would think that a facility that offers grooming would see if their guests had a problem and address it with a medicated bath, but apparently that didn't happen. The dog with the problem passed it onto my guys, who then brought it home to me. My landlord was not thrilled. He may use this incident to deny me my security deposit, even though the problem is now settled and the fleas are gone. But I guess that's a separate issue... Please understand. I've used B&B 4-5 different times, and only once did this happen. But their response to my concern was disheartening and quite frustrating. I haven't been back, so I don't know if they are more careful now. read more

I took my dog there for an overnight stay and will NEVER return. First of all, the place was dirty. It looked like a shelter instead of a kennel to leave your dog. Secondly, my debit card was charged TWICE. I paid for the services when I dropped my dog off. I then received a phone call from one of the staff members the following morning. She indicated my debit card payment had not gone through in the previous day's credit card processing batch. While I was on the phone with her, I pulled our my receipt and told her that I had proof that the payment had gone through (my receipt had the batch number clearly posted on it, as well as "APPROVED" written on it). Even after explaining this, she insisted I give her my debit card number again so that she could run it. I was concerned that I would be charged twice, but she told me that wouldn't happen. Go figure... When I got my dog back, he was lethargic and had diarrhea for 2 days. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but he slept for 2 hours straight once I got him home - which he never does. I'm not sure if it was because it was so loud there (other dogs were barking nonstop when I dropped him off on Saturday) or if he was just worn out from going on the walk. Granted, I don't mind him getting exercise; I specifically paid for him to receive it. However, after seeing the nasty condition of the office (which I assume would be cleaner than the rest of the place since it makes sense to make sure the stuff your clients see is the most presentable area of your business), I'm concerned he may have picked up a temporary illness that needed to work itself out of his system. Not worth the drive, the money (way overpriced), nor the effort. Save yourself the grief and don't go here. read more
