Our last two nights of our journey were spent in Seattle at the Shafer Baillie mansion. I would highly recommend staying here. The location was great for getting to downtown and all around. It is close to the Cap Hill neighborhood with shops and restaurants. There is plenty of street parking in the vicinity. The mansion itself is part of what was known as Millionaire's Row. It was built in 1914 and has been well cared for over the years. When we came back from one evening out, we all gathered in the Library and set up some charcuterie and wine to share from our travels. It was so cozy sitting all together and chatting about our adventures. The rooms are historic with modern conveniences. Our room was the Queen Ann Hill. We slept soundly in our comfortable 4 poster bed. There was a helpful step stool for me to climb up as I am vertically challenged. It has original pushbotton light switches. It had a beautiful full length mirror. There was a flatscreen TV, but we had so many wonderful activities we did not use it. The bathroom was updated but still fit with the historic look. There were two showerheads in the tiled shower. Breakfast was lovely. I, personally, have a great deal of food allergies. There was ample selection that I was able to enjoy just as much as anyone else. There were breads and pastries, jams and spreads, yogurt and fresh berries, and a hot breakfast dish. Hard boiled eggs were available as well as cheeses and meats. There was a coffee bar that was available all day that also had tea and cocoa. We sat at the long dining table enjoying each others company and conversation. We got to meet some of the other guests which added to the experience. If we find ourselves back in Seattle, this is where I will want to stay.

They have a few family dogs and a cat on property they couldn't be any sweeter, all you can drink coffee. Granola, oatmeal bananas, yogurt, we instacart water that we put in our room fridge, with oranges and snacks, parking is tight, you may have to park down the street, nobody bothers anything, very quiet neighborhood. They were super friendly and helpful. They also cooked delicious breakfasts. We met David on our last day and he was super nice and welcoming. Centrally located at Capitol Hill. Near the train station and the bus. We walked late at night and never had an issue. Walking distance to lots of restaurants and the park. They gave us a list of restaurants and a map. CONS: The only issues I did have were that there were so many stairs. We personally did not mind it- my mom does walk slowly up and down stairs, but for someone else, this could be an issue. The bed was too firm to my liking, but other people might not mind it. Low water pressure in the bathroom. Overall, I would stay here again if I visited Seattle.

If…read moreyou want to be literally in the heart of the City, this location may not be for you, as its about a 1/2 hour walk to Pike Place or to the Space Needle, or a 15 minute drive. But considering how expensive Seattle is to park (as much as $40 a day), you can walk or take the bus ($2.25) or a taxi ($7) to get to the touristy spots like Pike Place or the Space Needle. We stayed on the third floor in the Garnet Room, which I highly recommend unless you can't walk a lot of stairs. The room has a lot of natural sunlight, plenty of storage area for our belongings, and plenty of room to spread out. The plus is there's no one above us, so it was definitely quiet! My only minus is the tv in the room is tiny (my computer monitor at home is bigger) and its antenna tv, not cable, so its hit or miss if the station comes in. The Inn does have DVD's in the library, but I had no idea where to get the DVD player. The Inn provided a portable air conditioning unit and fans in the Garnet room, but quite honestly, it never got hot enough to use. The room did get a little stuffy but we opened the sky light panels, and the crack of air plus the fan gave the room ample circulation. The Garnet room had a nice deep, whirlbath (jacuzzi style) tub which was wonderful to soak after a long day of being a tourist. There's very little street traffic at night, and even with the windows opened, it was quiet. Every morning, breakfast was served between 7:30-9:30. Even though the table was set for 10 people, we never seemed to have any problem sharing breakfast with the entire house. The breakfasts weren't extremly "gourmet" compared to many B+B's I've stayed at, but the food was hearty, and sufficient to get us through the day, such as french toast, huevos ranchero (with scramble egg instead of fried), blueberry pancakes with sausage, and a herb scramble with rosemary toast. Plenty of coffee or tea, and a side board with yogurt and granola toppings. Other perks included free use of the computer and printer, plenty of little snacks throughout the house, like nuts, candies, biscottis, and a fridge to store food or drinks, if needed. There was coffee and tea available all day, and fresh fruit. Again, nothing really extravagant, but sufficient to make our stay pleasant. There's parking in the back for 4 or 5 cars, and an overflow next door in the green house lot, plus street parking if needed. If I had to give it a negative feedback, it may be the lack of interaction the staff has with the guests. But, some people tend to like not having to see the staff, but they did provide a number for us to call if we needed anything, anytime. The staff also accommodated our early flight, and had breakfast for us at 7:30 prompt, so we could be out the door at 7:45. For the price we paid ($159/ night) and a quiet location, its a very good deal and I'd gladly recommend this place.

Local eateries line 15th Avenue within walking distance. I don't know about you but once you've enjoyed all the hospitality of a fine B&B, you never want to go back to the Radisson or Best Western. Fresh baked cookies were always there, next to the tea cart, awaiting your itchy little fingers. P.S., do NOT look for any signs identifying the house as "Mildred's" for they do not exist. This will be my first lodging consideration on my next visit north.

Ever since staying at a B&B in Napa, I ended searching for one in Seattle and stumbled upon Greenlake Guest House. I checked availability, what they offer and so forth and grew too love it and wanted to book our stay with them! Julie our host was so amazing! She was kind and attentive! When we arrived she gave us a tour of the house and showed us to our room! There is a community fridge with water and sodas as well as a Keurig for coffee or tea. There was a welcome basket and bottle of wine that was provided with our stay. Julie told us that we can use their contactless app to put in our breakfast order or utilize the sheet that was provided. She told us that we can pick as little or as much as we wanted. I read great reviews on her homemade granola and definitely had to try it! After breakfast they would give you the sheet to choose breakfast for the next day. Everyday there's something different and everything that we had tried has been delicious! They bake fresh cookies everyday and you have the option to request for them on the menu and if you need your room cleaned. Julie and her staff were all so amazing to us during our stay! Linda makes you feel like family and she and Benny take care of even the smallest details to make your stay pleasant. Heck when we met her she was making sure a girl who was looking at colleges to attend knew how to get to the B&B and if she needed to contact anyone to let them know she arrived safely to the B&B. Upon arrival, we head into our taxi into the lovely area of Seattle that is Capitol Hill. Lynda, the owner of this beautiful B&B, greets us warmly at this beautiful old Victorian-style home that's been in her family for decades upon decades. The hubby and I particularly like staying at B&Bs because they tend to be cleaner (after all, what person would let their OWN house go into a state of disrepair), and we actually like talking to the friendly owners and other guests. Admittedly, this place has furnishings that aren't exactly hip & modern. It lends itself to a bit more 'old-woman' chic. However, the furnishings are all old antique furniture that has been in her family for ages. Beautiful quality furniture that kind of takes you back in time. But what REALLY sets this place apart is Lynda herself. Lynda is a lovely woman...feels like your friendly aunt who wants nothing more than to chit chat at her dining table with you. Sure, she can be a bit overly-chatty, but like we said, we love a friendly B&B host. Lynda really made our stay lovely - even sent up a bottle of wine for us on our anniversary with a cute little note. Got to talk to Lynda about all kinds of wonderful and fascinating stuff (she lived in Mexico for 20 or so years when she went off to college, met a guy down there and married him!)...conversations were lovely and really made our trip all the more 'cozier'. Side note: Lynda has a large dog, Madeline, and a cat, Agnes (I believe). Agnes is apparently the meanest little cat...but she ignores you so just ignore her. Though we only had time for one night this year, Hideaway Lodge Bed & Breakfast is one of those places that left us relaxed and happy at the end of our stay. Gary and Carrol are wonderful hosts. The lodge, the room and the property are lovely. Everything was neat and clean. Breakfast was wonderful. "Wine Down Time" was a nice touch and there were fresh flowers waiting in our room for our anniversary. We enjoyed wandering the property the next morning. Woodenville has some great places to eat and downtown is walk around friendly. I highly recommend staying here if you are in need of a getaway!
