The lobby is large and modern, with the bistro bar in the front. There was a nice level of energy at the bar, with people socializing and 80s hair metal music playing in the background. We had a couple of drinks and a flatbread. The drinks were too shelf with Drippings Springs Vodka and carefully crafted. The rooms are large and designed with a flare that makes sense. Unlike A W hotel, where they sacrifice flow with being clever, the Indigo rooms have a nice feel elevated above the standard room in this price range. The clean, comfortable king bed and extra-large shower made for an upscale stay at an excellent price. We'll stay there again!

BUT, the hotel has EXCELLENT communication. We received a text before checking in with all the info we needed. Then, advice to text if we needed anything. Actually we sent a few texts that were IMMEDIATELY answered. Impressive! Even in the largest of other hotels, it can take some time to get a real person. We were immediately texted when we had a question about parking, then accessing the room, and others. I read on one review that there are about 10 parking spots. Actually, there are probably 25 to 30 in the lot. We found that we could park in the lot with no issues at various times. NOTE: Some spots are marked with "Reserved Parking". I asked the hotel and they related that hotel guests can park in those spots. We were told about possible train noise. We did hear it a few times, but it wasn't bothersome. In fact, there were ear plugs in a black pouch in the bathroom should this be an issue. There was also live music in the 4th floor bar until midnight. We could hardly hear it & we were on the 4th floor as well. BTW, there are superior views of the silos from the rooftop and other places in the hotel.

Sadly, there are only 2 breakfast foods, both bad for you: cereal laden with sugar & yogurt laden with sugar. And, for a boutique hotel, there was a lack of coffee. Yes, there was a coffee maker in the room with 2 pods for us, but no creamer. It was on another floor. We were here 2 nights, and the pods weren't replaced. No coffee the next morning and nowhere in the hotel to get some complementary coffee. That was odd because almost every hotel has coffee, some 24 hrs a day (Holiday Inn, etc). In summation, the location couldn't be beat. Check in was smooth with Courtney at the front desk. We would have never found this hotel were it not for a Travelzoo offer.

So naturally I called the front desk. That's when the comedy started. I was told the hotel has been having "backup generator issues all day" affecting the AC. Interesting considering the entire city of Waco has had zero widespread power issues today. I actually laughed out loud when she said it. Then I asked for a simple box fan. They had none. Ironically, placing a fan where the thermostat sensor detects motion would likely keep the AC from shutting off in the first place. What really sealed it was when I was told:"There is no motion sensor on the thermostat." ...immediately followed by an offer to move me to "a room with AC." Wait -- I thought the issue was the generators? And if there's no occupancy sensor, why did the AC magically turn back on the second movement was detected? The proof is literally on the thermostat screen. I don't mind problems. Hotels have issues sometimes. I DO mind being insulted with explanations that make absolutely no sense. Just be honest with guests instead of making up stories that fall apart in thirty seconds.

This B&B is one of the nicest that I have ever stayed in, and I am a B&B frequent traveler in the U.S., Canada, and Europe over the years. The rooms are very comfortable and decorated beautifully in both the cottages and in the main house. I have stayed in a variety of the losgings for both short and longer stays. It is an ideal venue for a family reunion, business meeting, wedding, or just a getaway. The big house has a wonderful great room with a huge fireplace, comfortable couches, chairs, books, tables and chairs for gatherings or meals. The grounds are beautiful and there are walking trails to the creek.The hosts, Dana and Retha are friendly, helpful, and your comfort is their top priority. The breakfast is sumptuous and varied. I have special dietary needs and they are always ready to go the extra mile to accommodate them. The omelettes are especially you my. Retha & Dana are wonderful hosts who go beyond what my wife & I have ever experienced in Bed & Breakfasts we've enjoyed over the past 32 years of our marriage. Retha even helped carry our luggage upstairs - without being asked - when she saw I was wearing a brace on my knee! The room was perfect. Quiet, comfortable, homey - with privacy and surrounded by trees. No highway noise - which we both loved. We enjoyed 3 or 4 great breakfasts with our hosts and the food was superb. I can't think of another B&B we want to re-visit as much as this one. In fact, my wife and her sister have already booked rooms for an event in Waco they wanted to attend. My wife and I visited on our 25th anniversary. From booking to checkout everything was great. Upon arrival, we were greeted by great hosts/owners (Dana & Retha). They offered great recommendations on places we might enjoy visiting and places to eat. The B&B is a short drive to all the downtown shops, eats and Baylor campus. It's also a short drive from other area attractions. We enjoyed breakfast with others one day, and a pre-delivered breakfast in our room the next day. Our room was nicely decorated, clean and very comfortable. The area is nice and quiet and very relaxing. We will definitely be repeat customers if/when we return to the area. read more

We had the best experience last week at this serene and relaxing bed and breakfast! What a gem! There were so many wonderful extra touches and amenities. It was so lovely! Our room was just perfect and the surroundings, set amongst the tall trees, were beautitul and so quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on the private deck. Breakfast was delicious each and every morning. But, above all else, the owners, Dana and Retha were what made this place the best! These two are very gifted at welcoming, feeding and loving on people! They are so sweet and really enjoy what they do. They made our stay very special and memorable! We don't go anywhere & stay overnight very often. When we go some place it is special. I cannot think of any place we have stayed that was more beautiful inside and out. The breakfast was wonderful and accompanied by wonderful conversation with Retha and Dana. It is spiritually uplifting as Dana and Retha share their faith with in normal conversation. Retha has a wonderful gift of making each and every room special, peaceful, inviting, and relaxing. Dana on the other hand is great at building and making the grounds inviting and pleasing. Retha and Dana are the Best Hosts! They are caring, warm, friendly and have a gift for attention to details. The rooms are all Beautiful and breakfast is Always yummy! The bed my husband and I slept in last night felt like we were sleeping on a cloud with the Softest, coziest sheets ever! Best night's sleep and I truly didn't want to get out of bed. Never thought I would love pumpkin pancakes, but they are wonderful. The bed was very comfortable and room was prefect. They really put themselves in making each room unique and beautiful. We LOVE this B&B; in fact it's our Favorite! The owners are wonderful and very hospitable. The rooms are all very cozy and the beds are extremely comfortable. Extra amenities such as TV, DVD player, movies to borrow, a cozy fireplace and yummy, homemade breakfasts all make it an extra-special place to stay. My husband and I were part of the kitchen/meal crew and stayed in the Gathering House. The kitchen was quite well-stocked and the extra fridge around the corner + extra storage space was much needed. We did have to bring some of our own equipment but we were thoroughly prepared to do so because Gathering Oaks provided all the information about what was available at the retreat center ahead of time. The sound proofing isn't the greatest in the main house for those staying in the ground floor rooms, but that didn't really end up mattering too much since I'm a pretty deep sleeper. Those who wake up more easily from loud noises may not have as easy a time staying in one of the bedrooms in the Gathering House. The facilities are all very well kept and the kids had a great time with the outdoor activities and the fire pit at night. As it turns out, they want an add-on cost of $100.00 to turn the heat on the hot tub. I am sure there is an excuse, but it is probably ridiculous since this is not an industry standard.

The Not so Good: -Did not love the breakfast selections (received one voucher per day redeemable for one item). Out of the breakfast burrito both days, and the breakfast biscuit was something found in the frozen section. Cinnamon roll was so dry I didn't even bother eating it. -If your room faces the road, it can be noisy at times with loud cars. Not bad, but not great.

The room did not appear as sparse as Alofts usually do. It was again bright and modern, very clean , cute decor . I liked that the TV had a full range of channels not just the basics ( gonna admit after a long day at work, mindless Bravo shows are always a good watch ) Two desks and lots of bright lighting.
