It wasn't the cutest of shops, but the chocolate shapes were really cute. They had just about every mold of chocolate imaginable. The shop seemed especially large for the amount of chocolate they had inside. I did like the discount on the easter candy on my visit. I love peanut butter eggs, so had to pick up a few. The chocolate was pretty good. My favorite of the several options I picked up were the dark chocolate covered pretzels. The shop also has a variety of popcorn for purchase along with a Rita's Italian Ice shop in the back. Finally, there is a side room with some classic claw machines for the kids to play when not hyped up on chocolate sugar. read more

Great little candy shop - had some trouble finding them this time (they're about a block west of their previous location) but the new location is at least twice as big. Great selection of flavored popcorn & chocolates. Also found a sugar-free PB filled chocolate which was as good as any 'regular' chocolate! The back side of the store also houses a Rita's franchise as well to add to your sweets overload ;) We made 2 visits this trip and found staff friendly & knowledgeable about the products - will definitely stop in on our next visit to Bedford! read more

We were gifted a bag of caramel and chocolate coated popcorn from Bedford Candies when we checked in at the Golden Eagle Inn. I'm not a huge popcorn fan but let me tell you, this stuff was addicting! I couldn't stop eating it no matter how much it stuck to my teeth. Fast forward 24 hours and we were walking down the street and saw Bedford Candies in all of its glory. We walked in for a real sweet experience! They have so many varieties of popcorn ranging from the expected (cheddar, caramel, kettle, butter), to the unexpected (cheddar bacon, buffalo, ranch, and more). Besides popcorn, they also have ice cream, chocolates, and pre-packaged gummies and old fashioned candies you probably haven't seen in awhile. We were able to sample all the different popcorn flavors that we were interested in. In the end, I walked away with a bag of simple cheddar as well as a strip of chocolate covered bacon because... bacon. It was cheap and delicious! This spot would make a great place to pick up a locally made gift for anyone that you may be visiting on the way to or from Bedford. I'm happy our hotel turned us on to it! read more

Terrific service. Beautiful, well lit, layout with great parking. Bought peanut butter melts and vanilla buttercream drops, and both were delicious. Apparently popcorn is their specialty item. I tried the cheddar cheese variety. Sorry to say they missed their mark on that one. No cheese flavor, and it tasted like a mouthful of salt. This candy shop is always a go-to for me when I am in Bedford. They have made some changes since I was here in the fall, adding in a Ritas section in the back and rearranging the store. Hands down, this place has some of the best gourmet popcorn I have ever had. I am a sucker for caramel/chocolate/peanut butter combinations and this time I walked away with a Pecan Turtle - caramel corn with a chocolate drizzle and candied Pecans. I almost ate the small bag in one sitting! My husband and I love the Loaded Baked Potato for a savory option - yet I have never had a flavor I haven't liked. Depending on the flavor, the prices vary however, there are options for small, medium, large, and tins. Most times, we walk away with medium/large bags. I have never tried their gourmet chocolates, but they all look delectable. Caramels, peanut butter filled items, pretzels, etc. There is a decent sized selection to choose from. Finally, we had to end our trip with Ritas. They just came out with a frozen custard section that has flavors similar to types of ice cream - I ended up with cookie dough and Reeses. A small was about 2 1/2 small scoops allowing you to choose two flavors. My sister tried strawberry cheesecake and black raspberry, both were very tasty. My mom ordered her go-to, a mango gelato (hard to go wrong!). I will be back this fall during the festival for my fill of popcorn!! read more

I have two large and very heavy boxes of homemade chocolates sitting right in front of me, while I am typing this review and I am testing these delicious pieces just for you, so that I can give you an accurate review. Ha! Who am I trying to kid, each piece is screaming at me to be bit... Steve greeted me as I entered his candy shop and immediately offered me my choice of any free sample from his large cases of chocolates. My eyes drove straight to the milk and dark covered toffee and he was thrilled to share one of these with me as he explained that his eighty plus year old Mom still made the toffee on her stove top, he had better have this recipe, as they were outstanding. Steve is a third generation owner of Bedford Candies which opened in 1929. He claims they are known worldwide and his bulletin board actually does support his claim with all of the wonderful news clippings and articles. He's very proud of his families chocolates and rightfully so, which are still completely handmade. They do have a display of non chocolate candies and a section for discounted treats. Dark, milk and white chocolate surround each and every nut cluster, pretzels, toffees, cherries, jellies, dates, apricots, pineapples and creams. Ah the creams, these are not the typical creams that you are envisioning with the blah and sickening sweet centers, these are the very best cream centers you will ever taste with pow and wow packed flavors of raspberry, coconut, pineapple, orange, banana, cherry, maple, peppermint and chocolate covered chocolate creams. I honestly do not like cream centered chocolates, but Bedford Candies has made a believer out of me! Folks drive from far away to buy their chocolates or order them on line. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to try a few more chocolates just to make sure I know what I am talking about. We were visiting the area and stopped in for some candy. We were amazed by the huge selection! Not only do they have tons of chocolates, they also have a Rita's and popcorn inside as well. I purchased a small box of white chocolate items from the case for my bf and a small box of milk/dark chocolate items from the case for myself and everything we have tried so far was delicious! I had received some of their Gourmet popcorn as a gift and decided to take a road trip to Bedford to buy some more. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The popcorn is probably the best I've ever had. The popped kernels are nothing but largest pieces with the broken and smaller stuff left out. We really like the Tiger butter, Milk chocolate with Salted caramel among our favorites. I just today received a mail order of more flavors for home and gifts to friends. We have shopped here many times in last 15 years and always have been more than satisfied. The variety of popcorn is amazing as is the quality and tastiness! The fact is: I have never tasted better popcorn- and I come from the popcorn capital of the U.S!! We also visited their store in Altoona again the quality and selection is amazing. Lots of staff waiting to help you, we were offered to sample any of the popcorns that we wanted to. We did sample and brought 5 bags of delicious popcorn. We also checked out their candies. They have a wide assortment. They have unusual flavors in their truffles so we stuck with them. We got 9. Really interesting little store with about 10-15 different flavors of popcorn. A lot of the flavors are really unique (I definitely saw a cupcake flavored one), and the employees will let you sample any of them you want. Other than that, they mostly have handmade chocolate candies. The selection of fudge and mass-marketed candy is pretty limited- I don't think that's their focus. Which is fine, because their chocolate is incredibly good and their selection is huge. The employees were really, really nice and helpful, even though we were there an hour before close. They were so friendly and promoted the brand so well that I hope they're paid equally well. I doubt I'm ever going to be back in Bedford, but if I was, I would definitely stop in this place again. read more

I hate to leave a negative review on such a neat store but the girls working their treated us as an imposition more than a chance for a sale. I am going to start this view with YUM. Just entering the store will make you want to buy everything they have available just from the smell. Their main focus is on chocolate and they have all sorts of amazing chocolates available (sold by weight). In addition they have many chocolates made into shapes which is great for gifts or kids. The other side of their store sells nice loose leaf teas. I highly recommend this stores chocolate and i will have to see about the tea when i get around to brewing some. read more

Quaint store with an old-timey feel. I bought a half-pound box of assorted milk and dark chocolates and chocolate covered espresso beans. All were delicious. The chocolate is smooth and creamy. They have lots of molded chocolates for all occasions on sticks and chocolate covered potato chips and chocolate covered bacon. Nice assortment of bulk and old-timey candies and also clear toy candy. Then there is the popcorn - probably about 15 different flavors such as buffalo ranch, cheddar bacon, kettle, butter, caramel, caramel with chocolate and so on. There are lots of friendly employees on hand to dish out samples. Prices are reasonable. I will definitely stop by again when passing through. read more

I travel throughout 7 states and often stay in Bedford as a convenient location to work out of. I first discovered Bedford Candies about 2 years ago and go back every time I'm in town. I first had their ghost pepper cheddar and it was hands down the best popcorn I'd ever had. The flavor was intense cheddar and great heat. I alway checked to see what their hottest popcorn was and always bought that. I often would also buy their premium popcorn to take home to my wife as she love anything with caramel and chocolate and their caramel and dark chocolate with sea salt is her favorite. Their Buffalo ranch was superb. But today I was extremely disappointed. I was thrilled to see they had the ghost pepper cheddar and ordered the big bag without tasting it. I sure wish I had. It was nowhere near the flavor as my first visit I as this time it was light on the cheddar flavoring and very light on heat. When I find a place that cannot be consistent with it flavor I tend not to go back. I had also experienced the same inattentive service a previous reviewer mentioned. Sad. read more

All of the chocolate is homemade and hand-dipped in the store except for the fudge and truffles. You are welcome to a sample when you go in and they are now serving Ritchey's (a local dairy) ice cream. You are even welcome to sample that. The staff are friendly and are willing to help you with whatever you need. If you don't see something in the stores they will order or make it for you to suit your needs. They are always my first and usually last store when it comes to birthday, Christmas, Easter, and any other holiday gifts. read more

This is a very cool/cute chocolate and popcorn shop. We stumbled upon it while swinging by Briar Valley Vineyard winery (right across the street). They have the typical chocolate shop selections for different chocolate and a ton of different gourmet popcorn choices as well. Cute little shop in downtown Bedford that was a highlight of the Fall Foliage Festival this past weekend. Walking down the main streets of the downtown area is a real treat, and an even better treat is stopping in here for chocolate, fudge, and gourmet popcorn tastings! I didn't originally plan on getting anything, but after trying a few of the flavors of popcorn, I was almost blown away at how delicious they were. My boyfriend and I ended up getting the apple flavor and candy corn. My favorite, surprisingly, was the apple flavor, a bag of which I almost finished on the drive back home to the city. read more

My husband and I stopped in for a quick look and ended up leaving with fudge, chocolates, and popcorn. The fudge was amazing! We got the Reese's fudge, and the texture and taste were on point. The chocolates were pretty good. I'm not a connoisseur, but the chocolates did not blow me away. Good, but not great. The popcorn was very good! We got the dark chocolate and sea salt popcorn - delicious! The nice thing about this shop is that you can sample anything - chocolate, fudge, popcorn, ice cream. The friendliness of the staff was inconsistent. The first day we visited this shop, there were about five people working behind the counters. Two were quite friendly, the others seemed like they were 'just there'. The second day we went in, there was only one person working. She was not rude, but it definitely felt like she did not want to be there and would have rather have been left alone - definitely not welcoming. One word: POPCORN. They have an amazing variety of house-made popcorn in wonderful, although sometimes strange, flavors (think dill pickle). The selection changes every few weeks (every two weeks, I think) and they are all wonderful. They have all of the wonderful chocolates and things that one would normally think of in a candy store, but the popcorn is the selling point to me. read more
