Worst we have ever had. We drove from clearville pa to shop there and was greeted at the door by a nasty obnoxious blonde woman at 1 today and when we tried to explain that she was a service dog the woman got more obnoxious with us. I took are baby to the car and the nasty woman continues to be totally rude with my wife so everyone in the store could hear and this went on till had to finely had to drop what she wanted to purchase and walk out. Never have we been so disrespected any where. So the fact is your business treats rude and obnoxious and has no respect. The dog is a licensed service dog. And even after I took daisy back to car she was still rude and obnoxious to my wife. She shouldn't have a job. Anyone who is a union member or a pet owner should blackball your business I will not spend in your store read more

This place definitely has the widest selection of candy in the area! Tons of bins of candy you know and love and some that you completely forget existed! What a fun trip down memory lane to see the paper dots, those styrofoam-y satellites, and candy cigarettes. They also have a good selection of fresh produce, some cheese and meat options, and various nuts and snacks. They take card and cash, have a huge parking lot, and the staff were friendly. The store aisles are spaced out enough that you're not on top of anyone while shopping through. A lot of things are done by the weight, but they do have plenty of prepackaged options too. When I was in, the market was brightly lit and clean. I left with a few candy items for stocking stuffers for Christmas and would definitely come back again when passing through the area. read more

The reason we stopped by Hill Top fruit market was because of the sign on the highway that said Candyland. On one side of the store was produce, and on the other side...CANDY! The sign outside boasts over 900 varieties of candy. There was retro candy and taffy, chocolates, grapefruit jellies, individual pieces of candy by the pound. Most of the candy had the ingredients list handy. The store is for sale and there's a sign on the door about them not knowing when they will be closing. The employee we spoke to said the owner wants to sell and the staff doesn't know how much longer they will be open and customers ask them all the time when they will be closing. I'm glad we stopped in and wish I had spent more time looking at the merchandise other than candy. read more

I stopped in recently with a friend and her kids to let them experience this marvelous place for themselves and to buy all of them bags of candy and fruit. They went nuts, but honestly what kid wouldn't? Right!? What's not to love about this place? Nothing! It's amazing!!! I have been coming here since the early 2000's when I was working out of the Baltimore and DC areas. Their selection of products is top notch and their candy always makes me feel like I am a little kid again. I'll never not stop here when I am in the area. Their sugar-free root beer float candy is my favorite. Yum! Their produce is amazing! Their cheese selection is too, even though I am a vegan now, I once enjoyed it very very much when I was a vegetarian. You probably thought I was coming here for the fruits and vegetables, you thought wrong. I came here for all the candy. ALL THE CANDY! Seriously, there are tons of different types of candies and some you may not have seen in small packages. I have never seen Razzles in small individual packages, so image me just loading up on those alone. I had so much candy that I was in heaven, a kid in a candy store...well a fruit market with an emphasis on candy. I was so immersed in the candy part of the store that I did not realize that there were your typical grocery store items for purchase right under the candy itself. What a wonderful store! We stopped here for some basic groceries. It's called a fruit market, but it's really a SUPER DUPER CANDY STORE! There's not much to be had grocery-wise outside of the basics and some shelves of McCutcheon's fruit spreads, but the entire rest of the store is boxes and boxes of candy, chocolate, gummies, etc. The woman working was very kind and hopefully gets a real kick out of people actually acting like a kid in a candy store. We ended up getting some peanut butter pretzels, everything bagel sesame sticks and some random neverheardofit Hot Pepper Licorice Fire Trucks. I'm not sure I'll even eat one, but I'd never seen them before. If you need actual candy, and you want to select your own, this is the store for you. They had almost every candy you can think of (except I couldn't find jujubes). We planned on stopping on the way home to stock up on sugar, but totally forgot. Next time we drive on 68, we're definitely going to make this a stop. read more

If you are visiting Deep Creek Lake or just passing through on I-68 and need a fun stop, check this place out. It was built in 1958 and is still run by the same family. As kids, my sister and I would beg to go to Hill Top every time we visited my grandparents in Accident (yes, that's the name of the town...). Naturally at the time we were most interested--nay, exclusively interested--in the bulk candy...3 rows of any type of candy you can imagine (900 varieties of candy, according to their brochure). This place has not changed much since the days when I required Grandma's assistance to reach the candy in the middle bins. However as an adult, I also appreciate Hill Top's wide variety of fresh produce, Amish-made cheese and butter, dried goods, jellies and cider, and nuts in their shells. They have unique holiday candies (especially at Easter) and festive decor and food for all seasons. You will also find plants, apple butter, honey, real maple syrup, trail mix, sundried tomatoes, spices, buckwheat flour, dried fruit, fudge, and candy-making supplies (molds, hardtack oils, packaging supplies, melting chocolate, etc.). If you have time, check out the nearby Casselman Bridge on 40, which is a National Historic Landmark and also a great spot for photos. From there you can walk to a collection of artist studios called Spruce Forest Artisan Village (http://www.spruceforest.org/) and Penn Alps restaurant. read more

This place isn't just a fruit market. They call themselves Candyland as well. One one side they have lots of Amish packaged items with fresh produce in the rear of the store. The opposite side is all single wrapped and pre-packaged candies. You can get whatever loose candy you want for under $5/pound. The produce is mostly local (in season) and fresh. The also have Amish cheeses and other items as well. It's just a few minutes off I-68 on Route 40 and a nice place to stop to stretch your legs and take a break. read more

A true (and embarrassing) story. One of our neighbors is from near Grantsville and she often brought us candy after visiting. She told us roughly where it was but every time we went camping up there (New Germany State Park), we looked and could not find it. That's because it is cleverly disguised as The Hill Top Fruit Market. We went in by accident looking for fruit. Um. I guess there's fruit in there somewhere but it will be hard to see because you will be entranced by the candy. So much candy. Candy you haven't seen since you were a kid, even if you were a kid 70 years ago. They also have candy making supplies in case you can't find quite what you want in the pre-wrapped candy aisles. And there are other neat foods like interesting batters, syrups, spices, jams ... It would be a great place to get a unique gift for a cook/baker. And some candy. read more

A yearly family tradition, and a foodies fun house, we go every October. If you cook and love to have a wide variety of spices on hand, well, this is THE store for that sort of item. I stock up on many other items as well, cheeses (only place in PA I've found cheese curds or squeaky cheese as those from WI call it), beef sticks, dried fruits, nuts and fresh produce. We came here today and it was so fun for the kids. My boy liked running around grabbing every candy he could Imagine and my little girl liked the lollipop she haphazardly picked up. It was definitely a good time. There is a whole sugar and salt free section which is nice if you are diabetic and such. They also have dairy meats and fruits n veggies. A good time for all. This place is really cool and I strongly recommend it. Even thought the sign says Fruit and Veggie Market, it's really more like a candy store with a fruit and vegetable section in it. Most of the candy is individual pieces and you get priced by weight. I read one review that said the price was expensive but I thought it was pretty cheap. I paid less than $4 for my bag of candy (a regular candy bar is over $1 anymore). For my $4, I got to chose whatever I wanted from a vast array and still walked out with a sizable amount of candy. Like other reviewers said, they have all sorts of candy available, including stuff I didn't even know still existed. Some of the more notable options were: individually wrapped pieces of fudge, Chupa Chups, salt water taffy, candy sticks in the little boxes with cartoon characters on them, homemade caramels, the fruit flavored tootsie rolls you used to get at penny candy stores, and a whole bunch more. If you're traveling through on I-68 (or being adventurous and on Alt 40), this is a great place to stop and stretch your legs! This is the HQ of a local, family-owned 3-store chain of markets. I love the local produce and other foods, but the standout is definitely the fact they've got every kind of candy under the sun. They stock candies that your grandparents probably haven't seen in decades in addition to the candy you know and love. They claim to have 900 varieties, which seems like a generous estimate, but compared to what I have seen anywhere else, it may as well be 900. Some of the products are over priced. To their credit, most of what they sell is sourced locally or made by artisans, it's not the stuff you'll find in any ol' grocery store. But what I have found they offer the best deals on are candy and dried fruits. For example, I can buy dried apricots here for half of what my local grocery store asks (and my local grocery store is hardly high-brow). My husband loves that he can buy Lemonheads here in bulk. The only downside is that they don't have public restrooms to my knowledge, however right around the corner is a Pilot truck stop with those amenities. read more

They have an enormous selection of old-time candy, bulk candy, flavored ciders, flavored popcorn, unique jelly, bulk bags of nuts, coconut, banana chips and a ton of other stuff that people will want to buy - and a tiny bit of friut. :-) We bought what I thought was a ton of stuff and the total was just $22.
