I needed a repair or replacement on a very high-quality lock and latch for our 35-year-old front door. The lock was jammed after being forced too hard by a contractor doing repairs on our house. The local lock smith who was recommended by our builder came out, looked at it, and pronounced it hopeless to fix and that it would need a complete and very expensive replacement unit, rather than a simple repair. I wasn't impressed. He gave that answer with no real effort to assess the problem. He told me that if he pulled it out of the door to examine it for a possible simple repair "it would explode into a hundred pieces!". I said I would have to "think about it" before using him. Thanks to online review I tried Bedford to give me a second opinion. Mike came out and spent an hour with diligent efforts to see if it could be just be fixed rather than replaced at that great cost. He finally concluded that it was really hopeless, and respectfully explained why the whole unit needed replacement. It had to be ordered, as a rarity. He spent more time, at no charge, to modify the failed lock enough to let us keep the door safely locked, even though the deadbolt was hopeless. When it came he patiently spent 2 hours to fit it perfectly into this heavy hardwood and adjust it for smoother operation than the original. His charge was less than that first outfit, with no charge for the time he had spent to try to save the original by repair, and with a discount on the expensive new unit. Yes, he has an abrupt style on the phone, as some reviews describe, but if treated with respect for his skills, he delivers a skillful and helpful solution to the most complex problems. read more

My wife got copies of our house key and came home with a much larger square head key instead of the same size triangular type key. I went back asking for the triangular type keys since they are more compact in my pocket. At first he claimed he didn't have those but then, I assume realizing he didn't want to lose out on a sale, all of a sudden he had plenty on the peg board to choose from. As he was making the new set of keys (which I also paid full price for), I was told by who I understand is the owner that the only thing that matters is whether the key works or not. I stated that I prefer the original size but again my preference as a customer was brushed off in a rude manner both verbally and via the condescending expressions on his face. As he finished the keys he was about to stamp them with the business name and I asked him not to do that. He got irate and told me that if the keys don't work, don't come back to him. If you choose to do business with this company here are a few things to keep in mind: [1] if you want the same size and shape key, be sure to specify up front and be prepared to have your preferences mocked and questioned. [2] if you don't want his business name on your key, also specify that up front and be prepared to be shown the door. I wouldn't have bothered with this review except after seeing similar reviews here, I had no concerns that he was "having a bad day" and deserved the benefit of the doubt. Instead the people of Bedford and the surrounding towns deserve to know what sort of experience they may encounter. My only regret is not going to the other place in Bedford where a key can be made. I've never stepped through the threshold of that store without a smile and a "can I help you" greeting from the people who work there. read more

I have gone here multiple times during their business hours (everyday 8:30-5) and there has been nobody there. When I call, I am given a terrible attitude. The only reason I go there is because they are the only ones in this area that print keys for my building. I called today to ask if they were going to be there because I didn't want to make the trip over for no reason once again, and his only response was "8:30-5". I asked again to make sure saying along the lines of "I have gone before and no one was there, I know your business hours are 8:30-5 but will someone definitely be there?" And all he said was 8:30-5. Meanwhile I could hear that he was in the car over the phone. TERRIBLE people skills and rude to customers. Also, the first time they printed a key for me they were careless and printed the wrong key and I was locked out of my building. read more

This company is a joke. They'll program your key and then tell you it's your car instead of their shoddy work. They're overpriced, won't come when they tell you they will. Also, terrible attitude and rude. If I were you I would definitely NOT do business with them. If I could give them less stars I would but NEGATIVE unfortunately was not an option. Chivas did a great job! Our front doorknob was worn out. We called and he came the following day. Chivas took the old lock apart and got it working well enough for daily use until the new parts were delivered. The new knob and dead bolt are excellent quality. They are the most corrupt business in Bedford area, they should not be allowed to work on any locks they will give you price over the phone and then will come over with an attitude and it's stupid personality overweight, pants hanging, with ass all over the yard and very unprofessional and they will raise their prices when they start the job. I told him that I will not be intimidated by him and his gangster tactics and to stop calling me a ranting and Raving a lot of nonsense: example1) you are a terrorist 2)you're a Muslim etc: So much he knows am full Armenian Christian blood And he is from (SYRIA). I am posting again because of his verbal abuse unprofessional antics and tactics. I agree with Edwin A.'s post from 8/26/2017. Those guys are good showmen, however as a specialists they are bad. It's in my case. Probably, they did something good and professional, however I did not see that. I share my experience. Owner is very arrogant and after his speech you think you will see an excellent result, however it's a frustration. After I asked him to make my key smother (the same as original) he said it's normal. I do not need the normal, I need the same. Outcome: 1) spend 3 hours of my time. 2) $45 to cut one Honda Odyssey key. 3) sour attitude. 4) more or less working key. Advise: talk less, do and improve more. read more

I needed a key made in a hurry to give to a contractor working on my home. After being turned away from three different hardware stores and another locksmith because my key was difficult to match, I was referred to Bedford Lock. I'll go straight to Bedford in the future, even though it's a little out of the way! Totally professional, quick and reasonably priced, and my extra keys were cut perfectly (not always the case when you go to a chain store). If you have a key to an older/difficult lock that you need to duplicate, definitely check this place out! read more

Someone watching our dog while we were away got the key stuck in the door. Chervis came out in a few hours and knew exactly what the issue was. He fixed it and let us know that our smart lock had been misaligned and was causing these issues. He even fixed the alignment of the smart lock and we got duplicate keys made. Short story: Needed a specific sidewinder key. Mike wanted $20 to cover the cost of ordering the blanks. When they came in, made an appointment to have them cut. No show from Mike. Called, asked for either my money or the blanks. Was told to pound sand. Do not give these people money until you have the goods! read more

When I lost all my low tech keys for my ancient Japanese car, they fixed me a new one for about half of what everybody else wanted. Perhaps it was about $60 or 80 or so. When I was in the home alarm and security business I sent clients there. Never heard anything but thanks from clients I sent there. (I never got a kickback; sent my clients there for good work at a good price" What else is there. Good hard working folks, non corporate. Terrible people skills. The kind of business that thinks talking to potential customers like they are idiots with low IQ will result in a business relationship. Instead of trying to educate and inform the uninformed/ignorant, this business starts off antagonist and accusatory... Instead of a constructive discussion, the experience talking to this businessman was sort of like having to listen to a one-man monologue where the person picks a fight with you in his head, then rambles all these things that at the end of the day suggest you are stupid and he is brilliant. So, you listen and deal, then clarify that the person is way off. But, ultimately, you just reach a point pretty fast that makes you wonder why you don't just hang up already, because there's no way you're going to hire this business -- no matter if the useful bits of info the man had to share in between his rambling and antagonism actually made some sense. Aggressive salesmanship and bullying tactics may work on some, but talking to me like I'm an idiot isn't something that will ever result in me opening up my wallet in the end to say "please" and "thank you". I hope to never be so desperate. All of this takeaway just within a 4 min initial sales call. Not impressed whatsoever. I hope this feedback will allow the businessman to rethink his approach and style for future sales calls so the valuable bits of info he did have to share in between his antagonism could result in more sales and less commentary like this. read more

Had a great experience with Chevis from Bedford Lock and Key. Chevis and I connected by phone the day before, he listened to what I needed, asked detailed questions about each of my locks and at the end he gave me a detailed estimate of how much all would be with parts and labor. He arrived on time in the morning, worked fast and efficiently and had a great attitude. He noticed that one of my locks had a piece that was jammed -- rather than offer to replace the entire lock, he offered to replace the piece with one he had in the truck and only charge me the used price. I appreciate how conscientious he was of the overall expense. I definitely recommend Chevis from Bedford Lock and Key, it was a pleasure working with them. read more

the owner does seem a bit unpersonable but Chervis and Justin have both done work at our house and been great. Very competent and pleasant especially considering who they work for. One annoying thing was that after spending $$$$ to have all of our locks changed (after being told that the current ones were junk and could be easily picked), they wouldn't come in on a Saturday morning to fix a defective one (as in we couldn't even get the door open). I get that people deserve time off but still. For what we paid for the locks, I expect the locks to work for more than a few months. To be fair though, they did arrive very propmtly on Monday to fix the locks free of charge. read more

These guys are great. I brought my old, worn out house key to them to make some copies but since my original was so worn out, there was no way to make a functional new one. "Garbage in, garbage out," said the owner. I showed him the original again and not only did he tell me exactly the architectural style of my house, he measured the various grooves in the key and deduced the correct cutting pattern. I now have a perfect copy of the original key, and he save me the cost and hassle of having to have a locksmith come to the house and replace the lock. Highly recommended!!! read more

We had a basement door replaced and the carpenter moved the lock from the old to the new door. One day the lock froze. These guys came right out and quickly found several problems. Mostly one internal part had failed and the door tolerance was off. They quickly replaced the part and did a great job modifying the door. It's great there are still craftsmen around. High quality, professional, friendly service from a local company that has been in business for many years. We called them to re-do shoddy work by another business: low quality lock and poorly cut keys that wouldn't work reliably. The technician from Bedford Lock & Key came on time, replaced a deadbolt on our front door with a better quality lock, and re-keyed another lock to be compatible with the new one. Everything works perfectly. I only wish I'd called them the first time! I would definitely use them again. read more
