I was struggling to find my place and the right opportunity. After meeting with two other agencies that flaked on me and made me feel like a second-class citizen, I found The Help Company. My initial interview was with Katie, and she and I instantly connected. Our conversation felt completely effortless. I felt heard, understood, and genuinely valued. Toward the end of our conversation, Claudia, the owner, came over and introduced herself. The connection was instantaneous. Within minutes, she was setting me up for an interview with a high-profile family looking for a long-term nanny. In my 10+ years of nannying, I had never experienced an agency that was so genuinely invested in my future. From that very first meeting, I couldn't have felt more supported, heard, or advocated for. I have now been with the family since that first interview, and I couldn't be happier. Finding the right position was about so much more than simply finding a job--it was about finding a place where I felt valued and supported, and The Help Company played a huge part in that. The second recruiter I worked with, Michelle, was also an absolute angel. She was supportive, kind, and communicative throughout the process, and I truly appreciated working with both of them. Unfortunately, my experience with the owner, Claudia, was the complete opposite. I have never in my life worked with someone as unprofessional as she was. To provide context, I was matched with two ultra high net worth clients through this company. Both individuals turned out to be extremely emotionally abusive. I have worked in the celebrity industry since I was 20 years old, and by the time I worked with these clients at age 31, I had never encountered behavior to that degree. While I understand that the company's priority is to place candidates and generate revenue, there should have been transparency about the individuals they were placing me with. In my experience, Claudia was only kind and engaged when a placement was made and the company was earning money. During my second placement, I gave a two week notice due to the increasingly toxic and emotionally abusive behavior I was experiencing from the client. One week into that notice period, the situation escalated further and I made the decision to leave the position early. I had previously been transparent with Michelle about my concerns and my desire to leave the role. At one point, the client contacted Claudia and shortly afterward Claudia left me a very aggressive voicemail referencing an NDA and accusing me of disclosing information about a previous employer. This accusation was completely unfounded. The previous client I worked for through this company was already listed on my resume, so there was nothing confidential about that information. I chose to respond by text message because I did not want to engage in a heated conversation when I knew I had done nothing wrong. Claudia's response to my message was simply a vomiting emoji. I found this reaction extremely unprofessional and inappropriate, especially given the circumstances I was dealing with at the time. The company and employer also made several accusations about my conduct. Ultimately, I provided the California EDD with substantial documentation covering the three month duration of my employment, including text messages, emails, and medical documentation. After reviewing the evidence, the judge ruled in my favor and granted unemployment benefits. It took me nearly two years to feel comfortable enough to write this review because of how stressful and traumatic the experience was. My hope is that no one else is placed into situations like this without transparency or support. I sincerely hope the company reflects on how candidates are treated moving forward.

The rebranded "First Professional Services" has zero online presence, while all of the Yelp reviews are all old (from the Co-Op era). I only could find the old Co-Op profiles on LinkedIn and Google, but nothing for First Professional Services. That's a bit odd for a temp agency, yeah? Being active online should be their thing! But wait, there's more: Their current website is a sad little ghost town, with the last job posting dating back to 2021. Lastly, it looks like the recruiting team I once knew from the Co-op days are all gone... with the staff page on the site being suspiciously blank. All of this is sending me some major red flags under this new "regime", so I can't recommend or trust "First Professional Service".

The reason their temps are the best is because they are treated respectfully by the staff. They are lovely, friendly -- and of course, professional. Temping in the "industry' can be intimidating, but if you do a good job, Co-Op will take good care of you in return. I have been placed on two "temporary" jobs by this agency in the past that turned into full-time hire positions. If and when I send friends to them, they are always appreciative. It's kind of like a family, and like me, there are several people working in entertainment in this town that got their start by working for Co-Op. When you work with good people, you want to continue to go back and work with them. I'm currently a graduate student and when I have downtime or need some extra money I give Co-Op a buzz and they make a huge effort to find me work. Love them!
