Bedroom Outlet is a staple furniture in San Francisco that has been there for over 20 years. They are family owned and offer the best selection for mattress and other pieces of furniture. I was recommended to them from my neighbor in my building. She said they have the best selection for the best prices for mattress in San Francisco. They have one of the biggest selection of mattress from big brands like tempurpedic to Beautyrest blacks. Their knowledge and kindness beats any of the big chain stores that try to sell to you like a used car salesman. Before I stopped by Bedroom Outlet I went and stopped by Mattress Firm and Mancini's to see what selection they had. Both big chain stores had more and less the same stuff other than the bed in the box selections which I recommend to stay away from. But the takeaway from those 2 visits is I wanted a tempurpedic mattress. Then I finally made my way towards Bedroom Outlet where I was nicely greeted and was asked if I was looking for anything specific. I told them I was interested in a Tempur and they showed me towards their Tempur selection which was the biggest out of all the stores I visited before. I was told to pick whatever model I liked and they would see what kind of deal they could get me, no pressure to buy the most expensive items or things I didn't need unlike the other stores. After choosing what I was interested in I was sat down to go over the numbers. I was pleasantly surprised of the deal they gave me and took their offer. They gave me a great price and also gave me free delivery and assembly which was the nicest part. Got scheduled for delivery for the week after was delivered on time and set up perfectly. Oh, I love my couch!! I found this place on accident because I missed the bus and boy am I so happy that I did. I've been looking for an affordable couch that would fit into my studio for years. One that has a chaise lounge that opens for storage. Not only did they have the perfect size and color but It also opened up on the other end into more cushions for a bed. Good prices, spacious show room. My family has been coming here for years, about a total of 6 mattresses/bed frames/bed sets purchased here. Came the day before Labor Day to try and get a good deal on a new mattress. Was greeted pretty promptly and immediately sent upstairs to look at discounted mattresses, but found a great deal on a new model Beautyrest hybrid downstairs so I ended up getting that. Was initially quoted 5-6 weeks because of COVID related shipping restrictions. Called on Oct 1st to see if it happened to have come in early as I was eager enough to pick it up myself despite the free delivery I was given. Was told that it will arrive the following week. No problem. Called again on Oct. 9th as they said to check back the next week and they said 1 more week. Not an issue, they did say 5-6 weeks. Called back today (Oct 15th) and was told not until the end of the month. No other explanation was given. So which delivery date was the lie? The initial 5-6 week quote? Or the second time I was told 1 more week? Will I even get my mattress before the end of the month? Over the years I have bought a beautiful French provincial desk, a sleeper couch and a gorgeous gray velvet chair for a great price. More recently i went in right before closing and Brandon got me a great deal on a mattress - very affordable- he saw my face when I saw the prices and brought me to s better deal and I love the mattress! It was delivered on time the next day free! Today I went back - and Laura showed me exactly what I wanted in my price range/ on sale it's gorgeous - a single chair that is grey velvet and pulls out- my furniture had been removed from my apartment 3 days ago because of bedbugs in the building - I was able to replace 2 major pieces immediately because of the good prices and immediate delivery. When we found a couch we loved we told the salesman on the floor about our previous couch issue and he offered a full refund of their guys couldn't make it fit. I was really excited about our dresser but unfortunately have to give a bad review. The $800 dresser arrived - every drawer is uneven as are multiple of the knobs. The delivery crew damaged our walls when they carried it up the stairs. And the icing on the cake is that they claim that there are no returns even though we are completely dissatisfied. We were looking for a new couch and found one we liked. We were told by the first person who helped us that the chaise portion of the couch could be switched to the opposite side of the couch. When the couch was delivered the delivery persons informed us that the chaise was not movable and they did not know how to properly connect and disconnect the two parts of the couch. When we went back to the shop to ask for a refund or to return/exchange our couch we were told they do not do returns/exchanges/refunds. We will never go back here. I've been having back problems since the end of last year and wanted to switch up mattress' to see if it would help. I came into Bedroom Outlet last month to see my options. A lady named Laura was the one who helped my husband and I. She was very attentive, had patience with all my questions, and wasn't overly pushy. In the end we actually went with one of her recommendations, a Simmons Black Ice Mattress. It took some adjustments in the beginning of sleeping on my new mattress but about a week after I was already sleeping better. I used to wake up a couple of times in the middle of the night but now I'm sleeping pretty much a straight 7-8 hrs now a days! Great choice Laura! Once you go Black (Ice Mattress) you'll never go back lol! I wasn't planning on writing a long review but when you sleep better you're a lot happier person! we bought a sealy posturepedic matress, thinking we were getting a good deal which included the bed frame and a couch. seemed like a REALLY GOOD DEAL at the time, especially with delivery. If i would have known what kind of crap I would have to deal with over the next 3 years, I would have never bought from this place. when they delivered the mattress, they kept complaining that we didn't have an elevator. this is SF. 2 floors up. really? then when they setup the bed frame, they rigged it with bad equipment, and had to borrow my tools. when i moved about 8 months later, i had to saw and break the wooden bed frame into pieces to get it out the door. I took the broken frame and nuts and bolts to their store to show them that they set me up for failure and wanted my money back. the store workers and delivery dudes posse'd up behind the boss who kept telling me he would do nothing for me. it was a stare down for 20 minutes, and then i just left pissed. i considered taking them to small claims, bought a nolo and everything. The couch was a piece of crap after 2 months, some microfiber crap they sell there. trust me, it will never be comfortable. The mattress, felt like it could have been counterfeit, which after dealing with this place, i'm going to guess it was. the "Sealy" cal king turned into two parallel ditches to sleep in within 3 years. total garbage. I got 3 life lessons from this place, "buyer beware" and "if it seems too good to be true, it probably is" and "you pay for what you get". read more

As of this writing, I have blocked the store manager (John) from my Yelp, due to continuous harassing messages ranging from requests for me to produce my receipt, to saying that I am taking a cheap shot at his business. First, it would be completely asinine for me to post or give my personal information listed on my receipt to a business that I am not in favor with. Think about it; how would we all feel if every Yelper were challenged by businesses to produce a receipt and personal information for every unfavorable review we write? Second, I am not taking a cheap shot. It is my personal opinion that Bedroom Outlet deserves 1 star, and only 1 star, for the experience I had from our business transaction. If John and his staff had addressed my issues when I took my problems to them, the store would not have received an unfavorable review. Because they dismissed my issues, and my person, Bedroom Outlet is stuck with a bad review. For those of you who follow Bedroom Outlet's reviews, please note how their ratings are skewed. There used to be a lot more negative reviews. My guess (read: SUPPOSITION), is that John has done a good job of getting in contact with writers of negative reviews and getting them to change their minds and/or reviews. If John and his staff had addressed these issues as professionals with their customers, the situation would not have escalated to this point as it has with me. (Word of advice: spend more time on customer service and less time harassing Yelpers. By actively resolving issues with your business, you mitigate the risk of wasting business resources on reacting to preventable issues, as you are now.) The bottom line is when you take aside my sarcasm (Chinese knock-offs, etc.), and take my review for what it's worth, you'll know that my message is if you plan to purchase from Bedroom Outlet, make sure everything is clearly written in stone (or at least on your receipt). read more

This review is not the one I expected to write. After testing mattresses literally all over San Francisco at mattress stores, furniture stores, department stores etc. trying all different types from Tempur-pedic to sleep number to pillow top, we were about to give up on buying a new bed. We left mattress firm relatively dejected, and we saw store across the street that seem to have a lot of choices. Long story short - we went in, told the sales person we had a price point of about $1000, and were leaning toward some kind of foam or gel foam mattress, and she showed us a queen size mattress she thought would fit our needs. We both lay down and were really impressed - it was by far the best mattress we have tested in our weeks of searching. The shoe and a pillow protector fabric said "lady Englander" on them so I looked up on my phone and that was a reputable brand with good reviews. But mostly were really delighted with the mattress and she was able to work out a price it included the wood platform to put on top or a boxspring plus delivery plus removal of our old mattress just under $1000. We were very happy and arranged for delivery a few days later. Except p I hadn't read the receipt carefully, and when I got home I saw that it just said "queen mattress and platform". I called back to ask the brand and the sales person I spoke with said "oh it doesn't matter you can take a picture if you want." So I actually went back to the store and took a picture of the mattress itself, which was not the brand at all shown on the bedcovers. The mattress itself had "mlily" written on it, and when I looked up that brand, it was not the same brand at all but instead a Chinese made gel foam mattress. So here was our dilemma - it was by far the best mattress we tested to meet our needs, and a very fair price considering that they were willing to take away our old mattress and include the platform. Buying it online with all the other things we needed such as mattress removal and platform would've easily been talk to $1400. However I don't like being lied to or misled. I have serious issues with the impression made on what the brand of mattresses we were buying. My husband, alternatively, felt that since we gotten a good deal on a mattress we wanted I should let it alone. So I have let it alone for several weeks. But I realize over time tonight that although I like the mattress I'm really upset at being misled. We have no proof of what the actual mattress brand is if we ever have a problem except of course for the fact that it's obviously labeled the Emily brand. But most reputable stores especially with mattresses give you some kind of receipt for your warranty that indicates exactly what you bought. The fact that they would disguise this mattress as a better brand than it actually is really upsets me and I probably won't do business with them in the future. See you see my dilemma we got the yes we wanted, but the way it's happened has really shaken my face and what a local store will do to make a sale. We were so impressed that it was a family run business I've been there for many years really had no reason to lie to us and yet they felt the need to make us think our mattress brand was better than it is. Last year, I made more money than I ever had before--and than I will this year. Why? Because in addition to my normal underpaying full-time job and normal underpaying seasonal jobs, I had an overpaying part-time job. I used to love driving in traffic, but ever since I moved to San Francisco and made the conscious decision to basically only drive my car when I need to move it for street cleaning, I have come to abhor driving, especially in the Bay Area. Anyway, back to Bedroom Outlet. So I made a relative bunch of money last year and decided it was time to buy a mattress of my own. Not a mattress from a former roommate's girlfriend, not a mattress from some guy on Craig's List who claimed it was only used in one scene in a "movie." No, my very own brand-new mattress. I checked out three or four places on the Geary Boulevard of mattresses, and I settled on Bedroom Outlet. This might seem like a poor decision, as there are many chain mattress stores in the vicinity with better prices, right? Wrong. Well, sort of wrong. I may have been able to get a better deal on a mattress, but the service and delivery at Bedroom Outlet are topnotch. So ignore the nasty siding on the building. Ignore the cheesy neon lights in its windows. When you come inside, ignore the useless multiple levels and laid-out-by-a-three-year-old design of the showrooms. Instead, focus on the mattress you want. The people won't pressure you, and when you've made a decision, they won't try persuade you to buy a more expensive mattress. Once you've paid a fair price, you'll be happy with prompt, professional delivery. And if you have to change your delivery time or date, they won't give you a problem about it or make you wait a week. read more

Henry greeted us, gave us info on some of the different mattresses, and left us to test different ones out. After we'd Goldilocks-ed ourselves on practically all of them, we went off to another shop down the road to comparison shop. After about five minutes there, we realized that there were more things to choose from in our budget at Bedroom Outlet, and we went back. This place will lie to you to sell furniture. I purchased a mattress. i was told it would be delivered and installed. They came a day late and just dropped the mattress in the middle of the room and left. Meanwhile, I had to take 2 days off from work. I also purchased a dresser which they didn't deliver or tell me that they don't have. I have to take another time off for another delivery. If they had told me, I would have waited and taken 1 day off instead of 3. They seem kind, but it is all based on a scam. I called Laura to told her that the mattress was just dumped in the middle of the room (have a picture), and I have no place to sleep tonight. She said she will talk to another person tomorrow and will get back to me. Tonight I have to sleep on the floor and find someone to help me setup the mattress. About 8 months ago, my husband and I purchased a few things from this place: king size bed, bedframe & headboard, sectional couch and two Beauty Rest pillows. We paid 3500 cash money for everything thinking we got a good deal. Delivery was supposed to be the following Friday but when the delivery came, the bedframe and headboard were not included. So we asked Sonny, our salesman if he could throw in a bedbug mattress protector for free. He asked his boss and sure enough, the following Monday as promised, the bed frame, headboard and mattress protector arrived. Good customer service yes - this is where the one star comes in. Here are why there are no more stars: SECTIONAL COUCH: After a two months, our couch, which we ordered from their catalog, began deteriorating, The pillows lost their "oomph." The wood beneath us broke. We paid good money for this. Are we still using the piece of crap couch? Yes, we're trying to get our money's worth!!! But it is VERY uncomfortable and is rickety. PILLOWS: The pillows were Beauty Rest Pillows, They felt so perfect in the store, but upon trying them in our home, they are so uncomfortable! I feel like it was a totally different pillow. Furthermore, they were regular sized pillows, for a twin or full sized bed - they are much too small for our massive king size bed. BED: We bought a very expensive firm mattress BeautyRest Anneliese and once again, its soooooo uncomfortable - much different than the show room floor! We're so disappointed! I feel like we were given a knock off! BEDFRAME & HEADBOARD: No gripes, very nice. BEDBUG MATTRESS PROTECTOR: NO GRIPES, VERY NICE ALSO All in all, my husband and I feel like we wasted a LOT of our hard earned money. After spending that kind of money, we expect to be comfortable and happy but sadly, it's the complete opposite. When I first moved into my Richmond district apartment, I searched everywhere for furnitures, preferrably with cheap delivery option. I just can't stand it when I get a cabinet for $200, and they charge me $50 to deliver it. I was visiting Pier 1 on Geary and found nothing, and when I was on the way to JTown, I saw Bedroom Outlet and decided to check it out. The bedframe was the first thing that caught my eyes. Very simple platform bedframe with very clean shape in my favorite Mahogony color at a very affordable price. And then the sales person, Henry, approached me in a very friendly manner without being pushy and just to let me know if I buy more, I get more discount.... I looked around and saw the bar table with two leather stools that I really like, so in my head, I started to calculate my budget. And then I went upstairs and saw a very comfy loveseat that fits perfectly in my tiny living room, and I want that too. I went back to Henry and said, if I get this, this, this, and this, can I get 15% off no tax? Henry went to consult his bro and returned with a big @ss grin, said: I can't give you 15% off, I can give you MORE than that with no tax free delivery! Are you for reals.... So with a little over $2500, I got a bedframe, space mattress, a loveseat, bar table with 2 leather stools, with free and prompt delivery, and no tax, and on top of that I got 2 free pillows too! read more

I went mattress shopping on Geary, which should be renamed Mattress Blvd. I started at SleepTrain and the mattress I wanted was $2,300 a Simmons Beautyrest Paris Plush Firm. The next stop was Mattress Discounters. The same mattress is called the Simmons Hamilton Plush Firm and was priced at $1,999. Mancini's was next and here it is called the Simmons Beautyrest Kingston Plush and the price was $1,799. You can see how the game takes shape here. I walked into the Bedroom Outlet and the mattress is called the Simmons Akimbo Plush Firm. Jimmy hooked me up. The floor price was $1,400...I walked out the door with the mattress being same day delivered for $1,200 even! Jimmy saved me tons of cash. The Bedroom Outlet is awesome. Hands down. We walked around checking out nearly every bed in the store without any pressure from any salesman. When we zeroed in a mattress the transaction was easy and without pressure. Sonny was accommodating in regards to our wanting to get the bed delivered more quickly. We bought a floor sample so he couldn't do much on price, but he gave us free delivery and setup and bumped the delivery up a day. I've purchased a few items from this store and haven't had any trouble until a recent mattress order. As a broke graduate student, I'm not willing to dish out over 1k for a mattress (my last two were 300-500 and were wonderful!), and the nearby options of Mancini's and Sleep Train really start at that price point, below that the quality is pretty bad and they stop talking to you once they realize you're not s good sale. So, I went back to this place--tried and trued (we agree that that's grammatical but not a real word, right?)--and found the perfect mattress in my price range. The lady who helped me was patient as I tried several mattress and finally picked one. They were also willing to hold off delivery for a few months (I didn't need it until an upcoming move). Unfortunately, the mattress I received was waaaay firmer than what I tried in the store. I went back just to double-check, and yes, it felt like a completely different mattress. When I informed them about this they insisted I check the tags because it's possible I got the wrong one. The tags matched. It took some convincing that maybe the one I received was defective or incorrectly labeled. It's not only that what I received was too firm (which it is--firmer than anything I tried in the store) but the cushion on top is also much less plush and soft. They were kind enough to offer a replacement finally. Minutes before the replacement arrival my cat scratched the mattress. Tiny scratches but they wouldn't take it back now. I had cat for dinner that night. I didn't dispute this because it was part of their policy that the mattress had to be in perfect condition, but I insisted that they give me a discount because the fact that I have a defective mattress stands (and they shouldn't resell it anyway!), and now I need to buy a topper to bear this thing (it's pretty much like sleeping on the floor). They said no. I even suggested that it's possible the manufacturer made an error and thus they were not to blame and can pass on the cost to maker. Still no. The worst part is they don't seem to believe me. If you look at my other reviews you'll see that I seldom leave bad reviews; I just feel bad doing it, and my singular experience could be an off moment for a business (I didn't send back a glass of flat champagne recently!). But I'm in pain (literally writing this review because I can't sleep) from this mattress and a simple $75-100 off to partly compensate me for the topper I now have to buy would've made me feel like they care that they've sold me a defective product. This business is awful with customer service and I have reported it to the BBB and the police. The first woman I spoke to was nice. The manager however, was not. I put $100 down as a deposit for a mattress that I wasn't sure I wanted yet. The woman--Laura--was kind and said that if I changed my mind about the mattress, I could come back and say so, and then get refunded in full for the $100. I went back and said that I changed my mind about the mattress and would like my deposit back. It went smoothly, and she said the transaction was voided. She said the $100 deposit I put down shouldn't even show up on my bank transaction history. I left the store happy. The next day, I noticed I had a withdrawal of $100 from my account to Bedroom Outlet. I called the store and spoke to Laura once more. She said that it should be voided and money shouldn't have been taken out. I told her there was a $100 withdrawal to Bedroom Outlet, and she said a refund would come through in 3-7 business days. I waited 12 business days before calling them again. I called Bedroom Outlet and this time the manager picked up. I told him that I had a mistaken transaction on my account to which he proceeded to tell me, "No, no, no we voided this transaction. It's voided, it's voided! We did not take any money from your account!" I told showed him my bank statement and how it says $100 was pulled out by Bedroom Outlet. He said, "Call your bank and file a dispute! We voided it! We voided it! I don't want to see your bank statement because we voided it!" He refused to hear me out. Just to humor him, I called my bank. Twice. They confirmed that $100 had been pulled out by Bedroom Outlet and that there was no refund given from that same business. My bank sent me a transaction history statement through email so that I could show the merchant (Bedroom Outlet). I called Bedroom Outlet again and spoke to the manager. I told him that I had an email from my bank showing that Bedroom Outlet DID withdraw $100 from my account. He proceeded to tell me, "I don't want to see this! This is not true! We voided, it's voided, it's voided, it's voided! This transaction was voided! We are not refunding you! We voided it! Go file a dispute!" He refused to accept that maybe his business made a mistake. OR maybe he was just doing what he normally does--scamming customers out of their money. It was clear that he was wanting me to file a dispute so that I would be refunded by the bank and not by his company. Therefore, my bank would pay me $100 for my loss and he would get away with taking $100 from my account. This business needs to be shut down. Do not trust their recommendations. Love them. I'm moving east and i had some room in my shipping crate, and decided to buy a bed. Based on the Yelp reviews, i tried this place out. Not only did they have a great selection of platform beds, the sales guy listened to my needs, showed me what he had in stock (including a few items they hadn't put out yet) and here's the best part...left me alone to make my decision. I ended up buying a frame I'd seen online for $600+ for under $400 including delivery. Delivery was early, but they were quick and courteous. I didn't have it set up, since it's going straight into a crate, but the service couldn't be beat....and the price, dang. If I was still living here, I'd totally go back to buy a couch! I promised Henry I will help him write a good review if he gave me a good deal. It's been almost half a year now and I have no problem with my Simmon's BeautyRest. He gave me an excellent deal. Other mattress stores cannot even come close to the deal I got. It included the bedbase, delivery, and haul away if you like. At first I was skeptical too since it's such a discount from the other stores for the exact bed. But I got on paper that I could return it if I am not satisfied. And the packaging on the bedding clearly states Simmons. So if you want a great deal and dont want to break the bank, give this place a shot. The same exact bed you get across the street at Mancini's sleepworld will cost about 50% to 70% more. read more

I echo the sentiments of Philip L. Great service and pricing. The staff is knowledgeable and they aren't hesitant to give you a good deal. Unlike most of the other bedding depots - the Bedroom Outlet doesn't hover over or pressure you into buying. They let you take your time and mosey about....which is what I do best. I jumped around from bed to bed and took measurements with my trusty tape measure. Vaguely reminiscent of college....kidding. They didn't make me feel like I was loony and I ended up buying the most comfortable mattress and frame. It kicks ass and was significantly cheaper than a dozen of other stores I had investigated. After almost 2 years of waking up with an achy back saying "Ugh! I HAVE to buy a new bed!" and then promptly forgetting about it or putting it off because new beds are so flipping expensive - I shopped around and got a fabulous new mattress and frame here. (Thanks Yelpers!) No more achy back or whining 'cause MCM and I slump into the middle of the bed. Reasons to buy here: 1)It's not an evil chain store with pushy sales people on commission. This is a family run business with friendly and helpful sales folks. 2)They will totally cut you a deal - you might even get them to lower their offer even more if you are buying a lot. 3)They have a good selection and pretty reasonable prices to begin with. The only drawback is they couldn't do same day delivery - in fact I had to wait 6 days which bummed me out - but with a good deal and NOT having to spend my money with a big chain store it was fine.
