When it comes to cupcakes, I am as much as critic as a fan...so if I say a cupcake can do better,…read moreyou know it must take a lot for me to say that and come to that conclusion. I've had Gigi's before (in San Antonio) and I don't remember if I truly liked their cupcakes then, but I must have not thought that they were so bad not to return. But I guess now I can confirm that they aren't my favorite cupcake. Reason being is, gasp, there is just way too much frosting...trust me, I cant believe I'd ever say that. I got a strawberry shortcake cupcake and while the cake could have also had a softer texture (felt a little too dense), the frosting was overkill. Don't get me wrong, I always love a cupcake with more frosting than cake, but this one just seemed more off balance than I'd prefer. Yet, there were plenty of customers coming in that day to pick up pre-packaged orders, so it could just be a "me" thing, or maybe the folks of Bee Caves prefer their cupcakes on the sugar high side! In Austin, Cupprimo ranks supreme, followed by a good ol' Sprinkles cupcake. The frosting to cake ratio of Cupprimo's cupcake is comparable to Gigi's, but what makes Cupprimo's better in my opinion

I came here specifically for the sourdough bread. They had a full rack on display and fortunately,…read moreI have come late enough that it was okay to have sliced. The short is the sourdough bread was just okay. I find almost all sourdough bread in TX seems to be undercooked and I'm not sure why. And all the sourdough I have experienced in TX has a different flavor than traditional sourdough bread. It also seems quite heavier than a traditional sourdough. I did ask for it be sliced but the slices were incredibly thick. Easily twice the width of a normal slice of bread. Given the heaviness of this bread and seemingly undercooked that thickness is not ideal. I have certainly had thick sourdough slices before, but those were traditional, cooked and lighter. Maybe the person could have changed the thickness but it wasn't offered. Lastly, when checking out... I was charged 3% for using a credit card. I was informed beforehand and it is displayed... but this doesn't make it okay. As a business owner myself, I know I can deduct bank charges for using a credit card. So, you are charging me 3% and you are taking a deduction from taxes. But to top it off... after charging me 3% more... the server wanted me to provide a tip! Oh, sorry... she just said "the screen is going to ask you a question". What question? Why don't you just come right out and say "I want a tip"? But tip for what? And it's $11 for a loaf of bread.

However, for those who live close enough to a Brookshire Brothers may know that this employee-owned, community-driven grocer offers curbside pick-up, fresh local produce, hot and ready in-store made meals and store specific brands which rival those found at H-E-B. Brookshire Brothers, Brookshire Brothers Express, David's Supermarkets, David's Express, Pecan Foods, Brookshire Brothers Pharmacy and Tobacco Barn are all part of the Brookshire Brothers family. I came to this new Lago Vista location on Sunday on the way back to the Rock. This store is clean, offers a simple layout, has a decent sized fresh fruit and veggie section, reasonable prices, and a great hot and ready food section. Thing One and I purchased an 8-piece white meat bag of 'spicy' fried chicken (that wasn't so spicy), sushi, tortilla chips, and a Brookshire Brothers salsa. While the list of items may seem odd, we purchased what we did to get a taste of what this TX based store offered. We were both pleased with the fried chicken, and while it wasn't the best, it was good for a grocery store. The sushi was a miss for me, but then again, it's not a sushi bar, it's a grocer. The salsa, on the other hand, was great! If in the area, this grocer is def. worth a visit as its friendly staff, quality products, fair prices, and variety of goods offered are sure to please.

I placed the order by email a couple weeks in advance and was told that someone would contact me for payment. No one did, and I called twice before someone actually took payment over the phone. She totaled it wrong when I questioned the high amount, then recalculated and came up with the right price. I was asked if I wanted to leave a tip for the bakers, I said I would leave a cash tip when I picked up the pies. Apparently she didn't understand that, because when I came to pick up there was already a 25% tip added on, which I thought was rude. Every single pie (we ordered 4) had the driest crust and was hard to cut, even with a sharp kitchen knife. I ordered pies because I was on a tight time crunch with a lot of guests and thought it would save time. Hardly anyone took more than a couple bites and it was very embarrassing because I had hyped up the local bakery so much. They were pricey and not worth it at all. Every interaction with the bakery from the time of order to pick up was terrible. We are so burnt on this experience that we won't be coming back here during the rest of the year anymore. We trusted Thyme and Dough with a special holiday meal and it was ruined. It won't happen again.
