As tasty as the store in Dundee Huge selection of jerkys. House made marinades, top quality meats. Plenty of selection well displayed in a clean, nicely organized store. A great stop on your way south. I like beef best but I'm a traditionalist. The garlic, black pepper and Korean are all fantastic. I like how they slice it and that there are no extra sugars. None of that fakey liquid smoke stuff. This tastes fresher than grocery store products. They make your product right next door and you can taste the difference. I also like the jerky chips, extra thin and crunchy. They may not be everyone's cup of tea as they do crunch but they are happy to me. Came by on our way through on a road trip. People were raving over this place. We found the store to be rather disappointing/bare. They do have quite a few flavors, but the prices are too much. I tried some, it was good! But so is Kroger jerky. In my opinion, $10 for 3.5 oz is not worth it. To each their own! read more

For those complaining about the price of this jerky, get over yourself - it's good stuff, and good stuff costs more. Not only is this jerky made with no chemicals (which costs more to make), it comes in an amazing variety of flavors and even pork jerky, which I had no idea existed. The lady who worked there (her name is Michelle) was SO friendly - I had called to make sure they were open, and felt like I was talking to family. She greeted us when we got there, and even made a recommendation for a Mexican restaurant to eat dinner at our request - which turned out to be awesome, I might add. She gave us perfect directions (we are from the Cleveland, OH area) as well. We were welcomed and treated well, and these days that's a major plus when most people can't be bothered to even say hello because they're more worried about what's on the screen in their hand. I HIGHLY recommend getting some jerky from this place - they're not far from the I-75 junction and SO worth the stop! :) read more

Homemade beef jerky, fresh cheese curds and a selection of hot sauces that can be used to prepair for a colonoscopy? HELL YES! This might be the most perfect store that does not also sell alcohol. And, beef jerky might be the perfect food. Well, maybe it's not perfect (after all, it is a little expensive), but it is very high in protein and very low in fat. It's my "go to" snack when I'm trying to get into shape. This little shop in Luna Pier (along the lake, about 6 minutes north of Toledo) just plain kicks ass. Check out the pictures to get an idea for how the store is laid out. BJU (Ha Ha Ha) has two other locations, one in Dundee, and the other in Woodhaven, but the Luna Pier location is the where the jerky is actually produced. SELECTION: They have about 30 plus flavors for you to try-before-you-buy. Horseradish, jalapeno and Cajun are perfectly spicy. I love really hot food, but let me say this: The "Flamethrower" flavor is so incredibly hot, that it may actually chemically burn your tongue (seriously). If you buy, or even try, flamethrower, eat it last, because after it touches your mouth, you won't be able to taste anything else for about 20 minutes. Of course, there are mild flavors as well, such as honey glazed, cherry glazed, hickory smoked, teriyaki, etc. You're not a vegan but you don't eat beef? No problem. Try the poultry jerky or ham jerky. These are available in the milder flavors. Occasionally, they have some wild game and/or some more exotic animal jerky as well. Throw in various locally produced cheese curds and miniature sausages (neither very healthy, but both pretty darned good). THEN, throw in a wall with shelves full of various hot sauces, ordered roughly according to their Scoville scores. Their names, like the names of craft beers, range from the ridiculous to the even more ridiculous. By the way, even if a hot sauce is named "Colon Blow," or "Colon Cleaner," I would NOT recommend it's use as a bowel prep for your next colonoscopy. They sell some canned/bottled beverages as well. If you like beef jerky, do yourself a BIG favor. Forget about gas-station-variety Jack Link's. Come here instead. read more

Tons of flavors to choose from. You can buy it by the pound or prepackaged. They will let you sample a few but this isn't Baskin Robin's so don't go in thinking you will sample all 45 flavors. Employee that was working was super nice and helpful. They also carry a small variety of cheese. Sampled the cherry maple beef jerky and decided to purchase a few snack packs for some canoeing and later. The have your typical beef jerky, but also wild game. (Buffalo, Venison, Rabbit). At first it seemed like finding good food between Toledo and Detroit would be impossible, but off the side of the 75 we found Mecca (Meatca). A small shop across from a gas station that only sold meat and things that go with meat. It was the closest my adult life has matched me to the saying, "like a kid in a candy store." Inside were a half dozen rows of barrels, barrels filled with meat. Each on flavored and spiced differently. Each with its own type of animal, that was hand grown and dried into chewy meaty perfection. At first I coughed at the $18lb price, but then a helpful sign reminds customers that a 4oz pack of store bought jerky can easily cost upwards of $5. Do the math. I settled on a few varieties of beef, and the best ham jerky (the only ham jerky) I've ever had. Everything I got was delicious and some of it never made it back home. One of the best finds outside the jerky was the microwave popcorn bags filled with pork rinds! I already ate my two bags of the dehydrated dried pork crisps and am going to get a case off Amazon soon. The staff man was very pleasant and helpful and let us taste anything we wanted. I tried the spiciest jerky they had on the floor and it made my mouth numb for the next 20 minutes. I later learned they have something behind the counter that is worlds spicier. So if you're ever trapped in that part of America, get yourself some meat! read more

Soooo many different kinds of jerky! They have a ridiculous amount of variety here. They gave out samples of the cherry beef jerky which I guess is their best seller, and it was pretty good. I ended up getting a piece of garlic beef and cajun beef. They also have several different kinds of turkey and chicken jerky as well. They have some exotic meats too that are really expensive so I didn't buy any, but I've never found myself craving kangaroo and ostrich so much... Their parking lot is kind of weird. If you are a carnivore, this is a must-stop when traveling on I-75 south of Detroit. They have at least 10 flavors of beef jerky and probably another 10 of beef sticks and some other different things like pork bacon in big jerky-like strips. All the flavors that I've tried are great. We especially love the jalapeño beef jerky - I was worried it would be way too hot at first because you can see little dried up chunks of pepper and seeds on the meat, but actually it's perfect - just enough heat with great flavor. Staff is friendly and helpful and will give you a little bit to try before you buy if you are unsure of the flavors. All bulk jerky and beef sticks are $25.99/lb but the beef is excellent quality with VERY little fat/gristle. It's well worth it. The location is a bit tough to find although the address is correct on Yelp, just note that you have to enter the little strip mall off the side street via a kind of long driveway, no entrance from the main road. I first discovered this wonderland of tantalizing taste bud goodness while going on a random drive from Toledo, OH into Michigan and when we saw the sign that read "Beef Jerky Unlimited, We are not a gas station" we knew we had to check this place out and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. We were greeted by this seemingly sweet, friendly, elderly lady who invited us to take our time looking around and informed us that all of their jerky is made on site. Upon finding out we were originally from Pittsburgh, she teased us at how much better her Detroit Red Wings are, but that did not deter us from sampling and buying some of the best jerky anywhere in the world. Beef Jerky, Turkey Jerky, Pork Jerky, Wild Game Jerky, this place has it all and more. They even sell spices and sauces and jerky making kits and so much more. Among my personal favorites are the black pepper jerky, Cajun beef jerky, hot & spicy turkey jerky, and of course the deer jerky! The lady was sad to tell us that they were out of alligator jerky the day we visited, oh darn! I don't think I would have tried it, but maybe. All of the jerky is in barrels and you use the provided tongs to put jerky into brown paper bags and then at the end they weigh it and charge you. Headed from Ann Arbor, MI to Pittsburgh, PA, my boyfriend surprised me with a stop at a beef jerky unlimited shop. He loves his redneck, and I love Jerky! I'm not sure which of the 3 locations we went to, but I was in LOVE. They had home made venison, beef, chicken, buffalo jerky, and more. Seasoning pouches, cheeses, and hot sauces. To make a long story short---I buy about $100 worth and share with all my friends back in DC. They literally fight over it. I bought $74.00 of jerky. I agree that all the jerky tastes great but it did not last once we got it home. The jerky we got out of the barrels we kept in the brown papers bags as told. By the 4th day there was all kinds of things growing on the jerky. I also bought 4 sealed bags of jerky to send to my son in the military. Two of the bags somehow lost their seal and swelled up like a balloon. The other 2 seemed ok when I sent my package to my son so I did send them with a note not to eat if they looked strange or the bag wasn't airtight. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I stopped only because I wanted to send my son some jerky and I ended up wasting $50.00!!! read more
