The Abilenian branch of the famous restaurant in Albany. Call before going because it's usually only open for dinner. Giving it only 3 stars because my family and I have had mixed experiences here. When it's good, it's great...but sometimes the food is very uneven/mediocre. Not sure why (if they've had turnover w/ their chefs or what). I really hope the owners stay on top of the place because the Beehive is a great restaurant tradition and I'd hate to see it not maintain its traditional good standards. read more

While in Abilene on business I quickly ran out of places to get a good meal. Abilene is the epitome of chain restaurants and fast food. Luckily I found this little treasure and boy was I impressed. Located downtown Abilene, make sure you go early to walk around, the location is divine. The staff was wonderful, easy going, fun to talk to and truly understanding of the term "good service." We went to The Beehive after the CALF festival . I ordered the prime rib and asked for it medium. It was so blue that it was difficult to eat, lots of gristle and fat, it was a terrible cut of meat. I've eaten prime rib in NY, Vegas, NC and GA, and always loved it. Plus I'm a trained chef and know what I was brought was not true prime rib. I sent it back 3x and it was not edible. The popover that came with the prime rib was hard as a rock, obviously made on Friday or even Thursday. The people next to us, said the f word every other word. I'm not exactly faint of heart. I'm a chef but control my language around my 4 yr old daughter. I really wanted to get up and leave. I ordered chicken tenders for my daughter, they were so brown, and not very appetizing as I know the extremely dark color shows their oil in their fryer was old and should have been changed. Our server, was not very pleasant, kind of rude with scary looking spiders on her eyes for eyelashes. I kept expecting one of them to fall in our food. Overall a terrible dining experience that I will not repeat. Next time, we will eat elsewhere. read more

Good food and excellent service, had the 10 oz filet with side of shrimp. Ordered medium but it came out medium rare. No biggie it was still ok, the crust/sear on the meat was awesome, but I do like the juices and this did not have any juice. Overall food and service good to go, prices seemed a bit high though. What a wonderful surprise in downtown Abilene! The service (thank you Brandon) was wonderful! The rest of the waitstaff were present and courteous without being pushy - relaxing ambience, enough room between tables so that you didn't hear every conversation but neither did you feel isolated (as I was there alone on business in the area). Now, to the real review! The 10 oz filet mignon was superb - I travel weekly and have had good steaks, but not many like this! I would bring any customer here and know they would understand how much I appreciate their business. The bread, salad and baked potato are just classics to compliment the steak. Definitely lived up to the great reviews on Yelp! Not a huge LI iced tea fan but it looked good so I gave it a try. Wow! Delicious! Ended up have the 14 oz filet and couldn't have been happier! I'm very picky about my steaks and these guys got it just right. One of the best I've ever had. The house made blu-cheese dressing is great also! I had high hopes for this place. For the most part they were right on the money. But once again the meal was darkened by the horrible side dishes. Why do so many places in Abilene do so great with the main dishes but skimp on the sides? Over all the atmosphere was great, service was top notch!!!! And yes the main course was perfect! Driving through from Louisiana and heading to Tucson, AZ. Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. What can I say besides AWESOME food and service. Casey, our server, was awesome and suggested the peppercorn burger and the ribeye. My husband and I ordered both and each got a beehive salad! It was all fantastic...best burger I have eaten in a long time. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very tender and flavorful. A nice clean place with polite staff and slightly odd decor. I had the chopped sirloin in mushroom sauce special. It turned out to be a log of ground beef wrapped in bacon and covered in brown gravy and was surprisingly lacking flavor. The burger was quite bland as well and the fries were pretty soggy, but the side-vegetables tasted like they were fresh out of the can. Maybe the steaks are better, but after that lunch we didn't go back to find out. read more

Stopped for bite after a long day. What a great place. Burger was cooked exactly the way I like, rare. The side of crispy fried jumbo shrimp were perfect. Service was friendly, and second to none. Set in an historic building, Beehive is an old-school 'after church on Sunday' place, with tablecloths and fresh flowers atop each table. Service is Texas-howdy friendly, and the food is delicious, in an old-fashioned way. Tender steaks were our choice and they arrived perfectly cooked. A small wine selection is offered, but there is something for everyone at a decent price. Next time we visit, we'll try sitting in the beautiful bar. read more

Three of my friends and I stopped by for dinner on a Friday night. The bar and waiting staff were really friendly and the wait for seating was normal, 10-15 mins. The issues we had were with the steaks we ordered. They were completely out of the prime rib by 7:30 pm which was not a problem, although a little disappointing; so we ended up ordering the fillet mignon (medium), NY strip (medium rare) and the Ribeye (medium rare). First, all three were cooked no where near specification. My fillet mignon was medium rare, the NY strip was very well done and the Ribeye was straight up rare! Second, the steaks were not cooked evenly throughout. Lastly, the cut of meat was not that good..definitely disappointed! The 32oz Long Island Ice Tea drinks from the bar however are very tasty. Long story short, go for the drinks and atmosphere but skip the steak! read more

This is a must stop for GREAT food! We were traveling from Arlington to Midland for business. A friend mentioned if we stayed the night in Abilene that we needed to try the Beehive. Best advice ever! Just try it, you won't be disappointed. I had a salad, rib eye, potato, and the homemade bread, along with a couple Shiners. Everything was delicious. I usually pick what I like out of a salad, not this one. You eat the whole salad and want more. The steak, I've never had a steak this tender before. When you hear about a "fork tender steak", this is what they mean. I've had steaks everywhere, Cattlemens in OKC, every steak chain restaurant, and pretty much every hole in the wall cafe in western Oklahoma and the Texas Panhandle. This beats them all!!! Average...steaks are over priced. Went for lunch as we were in town from KY for business. Super excited to try this place. The decor was ok. Wasnt really the atmosphere I had envisioned. Our waitress was less than welcoming.. very short with us. I ordered the pork chop and my boyfriend had the sirloin. My porkchop was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I didn't like that I couldn't choose my sides... potatoes and veggie is whatever they have at lunch. Plaster potatoes lacked seasoning and were very undercooked. The veggie was green beans and squash. It's oNKU saving grace was it had bacon cooked in it. The beehive salad was good but overdressed. My boyfriends sirloin was not worth $32. It was small and not a great quality steak. He has the same issues with sides that I did. For the prices, I would not return and that makes me sad. I had high expectations. Maybe if you lower your expectations you will enjoy your meal. read more

I got the rib eye steak, it was delicious. The burger was ok, but not great. The meat was high quality, but I really didn't digg the bun so much. I prefer a lot of bread with my Burger, so if that not your type of burger, you may actually enjoy it a little more than me.
