I wouldn't do it again though, mainly because of how hard it was to get a permit. We visited in April and the weather was fantastic. It was actually freezing in the morning but as the sun rose, it warmed up to the point where we would sweat a little when hiking. I can't even imagine doing this in the summer but if you win the lottery then, make sure everyone brings plenty of water. To get to the trailhead, I'd recommend having a high-clearance vehicle, especially if it just recently rained. The road off of the freeway becomes unpaved and there are some ditches that can be flooded. Download an offline map of the trail and area for when you lose service. It gets spotty but you'll find reception every now and then. At the beginning, there are a couple of vault toilets. The trail itself is difficult to follow without an offline map. There's only a handful of signs pointing in a general direction. And until the Wave, we were pretty much the only people around. Considering only about 60 people are approved each day, it wasn't surprising, and honestly, kind of nice to be alone in nature. The Wave was everything we hoped for. We had clear, blue skies and that contrast with the red and orange rocks was beautiful. It looked exactly like the Windows background! There was even a pond further up with a ton of tadpoles. Besides the Wave, there's other neat waypoints to stop by but because we were tired, we didn't try for many of them. The only one we went out of our way for was the dinosaur tracks but it was anti-climatic. They just looked like larger chicken feet prints. Despite this hike being only about 6 miles round trip, it took pretty much the entire day. We stopped a lot to take pictures but also the landscape was difficult to hike. Lots of sand to walk through and lots of weird inclines to walk across, which kept our feet, knees, and legs at weird angles. There might have been easier pathways but as I said earlier, there's no clear indications of a trail. There was also a BLM worker at the Wave asking for the permit holders. If you hike without one and get caught, you'll get slapped with some steep fines. Drones are also not allowed!

It's easier if you have less people (like two people). Anyways, the orientation the day before was useful for weather and road conditions. The hike wasn't too bad, can be a bit steep in some parts but for the most part, not too much incline. It's moderate for the novice hiker but easy for an experienced hiker. For experienced hikers, probably can get to the Wave in 1 to 1.5 hours. For the inexperienced, it might take 2.5 to 3 hours. Either way, if you're planning to spend a lot of time at the Wave (some people take 2-3 hours for their extensive Instagram photoshoots haha), definitely go there early and spend all day there. I would definitely come back if I win the lottery!

Horseshoe Bend was our first stop after checking into our hotel. The nice thing is it's not that tough to pull off. When you arrive, you have to pay $10 to park, and then a short hike on a most paved road (10-15 minutes) will take you to Horseshoe Bend. You'll be able to see this incredible beauty of nature from a cliff that overlooks it. The main area has a railing but there are also open areas off the cliff where you can see it, too. Be careful as your pursuit to get an amazing pic may get you in trouble if you're too close to the cliff's edge. A picture isn't worth risking your life. Take a couple of pictures, enjoy the beauty, and make your way back. You can easily visit Horseshoe bend in 30 minutes to an hour. Given it's popularity, it has gotten quite popular and was busy when I went. That took away from enjoying being out in nature a bit, but still well worth it. When you leave, they have restrooms available near the exit. A must visit when in Page!

The attraction itself is free, but parking costs $10 per vehicle. After parking, there's a short walk to the overlook. The walk is pretty easy, but it can get hot and windy depending on the weather, so bring water and wear comfortable shoes. Once you reach the viewpoint, the scenery is absolutely unreal. Seeing the Colorado River curve around the canyon in person is so much more impressive than photos online. The overlook is very high, which makes the views even more dramatic. If you're planning to take photos or videos, try walking around a bit because some areas get crowded. We found one of the higher spots for better views and it was totally worth it for pictures. Also, don't forget to stop by the "Page, Arizona" sign nearby before leaving! Overall, such a beautiful and easy stop to add to any Arizona or Southwest road trip itinerary.

It's a 10.3ish mile trail with no bathrooms so be prepared to hold or stop by the public library as a pit stop. For me it took a whole 5 hours going at a pace of 30 minutes a mile but this can easily be done in 3.5 hours going at a faster pace with no pictures stops. In terms of scenery you go through many different types. Some are rocky, some grassy, and you even pass part of Lake Powell. Hike itself is not hard, it's fairly flat, but 10+ miles does require proper planning with water and good shoes. When I came it was fairly low traffic with only a few runners. Totally worth checking out once if you had an extra day in Page, Arizona!

No matter which canyon you choose, make sure to book your reservations weeks in advance. If you don't, especially if it's a weekend or peak season, you'll likely be out of luck. We visited on a Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. Antelope Canyon has become one of the most popular attractions in Arizona thanks to TikTok and Instagram. In many ways, it's becoming the new "Grand Canyon." Even if you're not big on social media, if you're a certain age, you know Antelope Canyon. Why? It was the standard wallpaper on Microsoft Windows for many years. And yes, the pictures are just as mesmerizing as reality at this natural wonder. The incredible formations inside this canyon were caused by many years of flooding and weather elements such as wind. You'll spend about 45 minutes in the canyon taking it the beauty of the canyon which is located on the Navajo Nation reservation. You'll be taking a lot of pictures of yourself, of the canyon, and listening to what your tour guide shares with you about the history of the canyon. It's one of those places that everyone should visit at some point in their lives if they're able. It's that incredible. It takes some planning and it's not cheap, but it's well worth it.

This in my humble opinion is and has become the top, must visit and see destination in Arizona. Let me try and explain why it surpasses the Grand Canyon. These gorgeous canyons were naturally carved over thousands of years by the combined forces of the eroding water via flash floods and the strong winds interacting with the sandstone. Hence behold these spectacular smooth natural flowing, swirling and narrow rock formations as our stellar guide and the others educated us via words, music and lyrics. The 70 minute tour in the afternoon( & earlier one around 10 am) is timed perfectly to coincide with the proper angles and intensity of the sun's rays as we made our way down to this wonderland. It was a lovely and breezy 80 degrees and maybe 70 ish when we got to the bottom. Please wear comfy sneakers. This beauty is in Page, Arizona just 271 miles north of Phoenix. I emphasis again this is a once in a lifetime event.

Another option is The New Wave. It's free and there's no lottery system in place. We stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. It's a moderate hike that takes about an hour or so depending on your pace. Make sure to bring plenty of water and the proper attire. There's some incline and some uneven footing, that's about the extent of the challenge. You'll be rewarded with nice views, including wave-like cliffs. While it's not as impressive as The Wave, The New Wave is a nice consolation prize.
